Abstract
This review is devoted to polypyrrole and its morphology, which governs the electroactivity of the material. The macroscopic properties of the material are strictly relevant to microscopic ordering observed at the local level. During the synthesis, various (nano)morphologies can be produced. The formation of the ordered structure is dictated by the ability of the local forces and effects to induce restraints that help shape the structure. This review covers the aspects of morphology and roughness and their impact on the final properties of the modified electrode activity in selected applications.

Abstract
Water pollution by organic dyes, and its remediation, is an important environmental issue associated with ever-increasing scientific interest. Conducting polymers have recently come to the forefront as advanced agents for removing dye. The present review reports on the progress represented by the literature published in 2020-2022 on the application of conducting polymers and their composites in the removal of dyes from aqueous media. Two composites, incorporating the most important polymers, polyaniline, and polypyrrole, have been used as efficient dye adsorbents or photocatalysts of dye decomposition. The recent application trends are outlined, and future uses also exploiting the electrical and electrochemical properties of conducting polymers are offered.

Abstract
Fluorescent probes based on semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (NPs) such as polyaniline (PANI) usually require external fluorophore doping to provide fluorescence function. Direct use of PANI-based NPs for bioimaging applications has been limited by PANI's weak blue fluorescence and aggregation-induced quenching in physiological medium. In this report, we developed a facile solid-state synthesis method to produce fluorescent polyaniline nanoparticles (FPNs) that are not only water-soluble but also exhibit high intensity and pH-sensitive red fluorescence. The FPNs showed high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 19.3 % at physiological pH, which makes FPNs ideal for application as fluorescent nanoprobes in bioimaging. Moreover, we performed an in-depth study of photoluminescence dependence on pH and the phenomena of exciton-polaron quenching at low pH was highlighted. We also found that the ratio of emission intensity at 600 nm and 650 nm increased from 0.04 to 1.65 as pH was raised from 2.6 to 11.8, which could find its application in ratiometric pH sensing. FPNs exhibited excellent biocompatibility with >85 % cell viability for fibroblasts NIH/3 T3 and prostate cancer 22RV1 cells even at concentrations as high as 1000 μg/mL. In addition, fluorescence microscopy demonstrated concentration-dependent red fluorescence in the cytoplasm owing to the cellular uptake of FPNs in prostate cancer cells.

Microstructure Evolution and Its Correlation with Performance in Nitrogen-Containing Porous Carbon Prepared by Polypyrrole Carbonization: Insights from Hybrid Calculations. Abstract
The preparation of nitrogen-containing porous carbon (NCPC) materials by controlled carbonization is an exciting topic due to their high surface area and good conductivity for use in the fields of electrochemical energy storage and conversion. However, the poor controllability of amorphous porous carbon prepared by carbonization has always been a tough problem due to the unclear carbonation mechanism, which thus makes it hard to reveal the microstructure-performance relationship. To address this, here, we comprehensively employed reactive molecular dynamics (ReaxFF-MD) simulations and first-principles calculations, together with machine learning technologies, to clarify the carbonation process of polypyrrole, including the deprotonation and formation of pore structures with temperature, as well as the relationship between microstructure, conductance, and pore size. This work constructed ring expressions for PPy thermal conversion at the atomic level. It revealed the structural factors that determine the conductivity and pore size of carbonized products. More significantly, physically interpretable machine learning models were determined to quantitatively express structure factors and performance structure-activity relationships. Our study also confirmed that deprotonation preferentially occurred by desorbing the dihydrogen atom on nitrogen atoms during the carbonization of PPy. This theoretical work clearly reproduces the microstructure evolution of polypyrrole on an atomic scale that is hard to do via experimentation, thus paving a new way to the design and development of nitrogen-containing porous carbon materials with controllable morphology and performance.

Polypyrrole-Coated Melamine Sponge as a Precursor for Conducting Macroporous Nitrogen-Containing Carbons. COATINGS 2022. Abstract
Macroporous open-cell melamine sponges were coated with a conducting polymer, polypyrrole, during in-situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole. Two samples, differing in polypyrrole content, 8.2 and 27.4 wt%, were prepared. They were exposed to various temperatures up to 700 °C in an inert atmosphere. The macroporous structure and mechanical integrity were preserved after this process. This converted both the polypyrrole coating and the melamine sponge to macroporous nitrogen-containing carbons. The changes in molecular structure in the course of carbonization were followed by elemental analysis and FTIR and Raman spectra. The specific surface area of polypyrrole-coated sponge increased from ca. 90 to ca. 300 m2 g−1 along with accompanying increase in the porosity. The conductivity of the sponges was recorded as a function of compression in a newly developed apparatus. The sponge containing 27.4 wt% pyrrole had conductivity of the order of 10−2 S·cm−1 at 0.1 MPa pressure, which was reduced by four orders of magnitude when exposed to 400–500 °C and nearly recovered after the temperature reached 700 °C. The sponges were tested in electromagnetic radiation shielding and displayed both radiation absorption and, to a lower extent, radiation reflection proportional mainly to the samples’ conductivity.

Abstract
Melamine sponges were coated with polypyrrole during the in situ polymerization of pyrrole. The precipitation polymerization was compared with the dispersion mode, that is, with the preparation in the presence of poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) and nanosilica as colloidal stabilizers. The coating of sponges during the dispersion polymerization leads to the elimination of the undesired polypyrrole precipitate, improved conductivity, and increased specific surface area. The sponges were tested with respect to their conductivity and as pressure-sensitive conducting materials with antibacterial performance.

Abstract
There is need for developing novel conductive polymers for Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing. In this work, photorheology, in combination with Jacobs working curves, efficaciously predict the printability of polyaniline (PANI)/acrylate formulations with different contents of PANI and photoinitiator. The adjustment of the layer thickness according to cure depth values (Cd) allows printing of most formulations, except those with the highest gel point times determined by photorheology. In the working conditions, the maximum amount of PANI embedded within the resin was ≃3 wt% with a conductivity of 10-5 S cm-1, three orders of magnitude higher than the pure resin. Higher PANI loadings hinder printing quality without improving electrical conductivity. The optimal photoinitiator concentration was found between 6 and 7 wt%. The mechanical properties of the acrylic matrix are maintained in the composites, confirming the viability of these simple, low-cost, conductive composites for applications in flexible electronic devices.

Abstract
The technological demands imposed on dielectrics and electrical insulation materials are being increasing with the transition from traditional to smart grids. Epoxy resin/conductive polymer (CP) blends with high dielectric permittivity have been prepared by means of a straightforward methodology. Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) and polyaniline (PANI), doped with p-tosylate and ammonium peroxide sulfate (APS), respectively, were synthesized and blended with an epoxy matrix. The addition of 3 wt % of PEDOT and PANI results in permittivity values of 68.9 and 9.5, respectively at 0.1 Hz—1300 and 111 times higher than pure resin. Hence, PEDOT is more effective than PANI at improving the permittivity of the epoxy resin. Moreover, the material retains the electrical insulation of the resin and exhibits a slight increase in thermal conductivity.
