Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data. OBJECTIVE To examine the combined influence of preoperative sleep disturbance and depression on 12-month patient-reported outcomes after lumbar spine surgery (LSS). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Psychological and behavioral factors are considered major risk factors for poor outcomes after LSS. However, there is a need to explore the combined effects of preoperative factors such as sleep disturbance and depression. Understanding the influence of sleep disturbance and depression can inform evidence-based preoperative assessment and shared-decision making of preoperative and postoperative treatment. METHODS Data from 700 patients undergoing LSS were analyzed. Preoperative sleep disturbance and depression were assessed with PROMIS subscales. Established thresholds defined patients with moderate/severe symptoms. Outcomes for disability (Oswestry Disability Index) and back and leg pain (Numeric Rating Scales) were assessed preoperatively and at 12 months. Separate multivariable linear regressions examined the influence of each factor on 12-month outcomes with and without accounting for the other and in combination as a 4-level variable: (1) moderate/severe sleep disturbance alone, (2) moderate/severe depression alone, (3) both moderate/severe sleep disturbance and depression, (4) no moderate/severe sleep disturbance or depression. RESULTS Preoperative sleep disturbance and depression were associated with 12-month disability and pain ( P <0.05). After accounting for depression, preoperative sleep disturbance remained associated with disability, while preoperative depression adjusting for sleep disturbance remained associated with all outcomes ( P <0.05). Patients reporting both moderate/severe sleep disturbance and moderate/severe depression had 12.6 points higher disability and 1.5 points higher back and leg pain compared with patients without moderate/severe sleep disturbance or depression. CONCLUSIONS The combination of sleep disturbance and depression impacts postoperative outcomes considerably. The high-risk group of patients with moderate/severe sleep disturbance and depression could benefit from targeted treatment strategies. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level II.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In psychotherapy, physical exercise has gained recognition and extensive research attention, displaying promise in various mental health conditions. Practices such as yoga, tai chi, and the Feldenkrais Method® (FM) have also emerged as effective mental health interventions. OBJECTIVES This systematic literature review (SLR) explores the applicability of FM, a somatic practice, in psychiatric care and emotional regulation, as it emphasizes the interplay between bodily sensations, action patterns, and cognitive processes. METHODS Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across selected databases from 2000 to 2022, identifying 14 articles, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, narrative papers, and SLRs. Thematic analysis was conducted. RESULTS The findings indicate global FM adoption, primarily in studies related to pain conditions, musculoskeletal disorders, and neurological disorders. Various measures were used, covering quality of life, psychological dimensions, self-image, self-efficacy, mindfulness, and interoception. However, direct application of FM in psychiatric care remains limited, with few studies addressing psychological issues. This review calls for more comprehensive investigations of FM's potential in psychiatric contexts, advocating precise measures and a dimensional approach to assessing psychological outcomes. CONCLUSION Further research is needed to explore the application of FM in psychiatric care. While existing research suggests potential benefits, especially in enhancing body awareness and emotional regulation, robust studies are necessary to establish its effectiveness in treating specific mental health conditions. This review serves as the foundation for future research into the potential role of FM in enhancing psychiatric care and emotional well-being.

Abstract
The relative efficacy of various mind-body exercises in the treatment of depressive symptoms remains uncertain. We examined the optimal modalities (Tai Chi, qigong, yoga) and dose of mind-body exercise to improve depressive symptoms in adults. A systematic search of six electronic databases for randomized controlled trials on the relationship between exercise and depression was carried out, encompassing data from their inception up to November 2023. Pairwise analyses, network analyses and dose-response meta-analyses using random-effects models were performed to analyse the effect of exercise on depression. Forty studies were included. Results showed that Yoga [standardised mean difference (SMD) = -0.55; 95% confidence interval (CI): (-0.76, -0.35)] was the most effective form of exercise for improving depressive symptoms, followed by Qigong (SMD = -0.52; 95%CI: -0.92, -0.11) and Tai Chi exercise (SMD = -0.42; 95%CI: -0.71, -0.13). In addition, a non-linear dose-response relationship was found between overall mind-body exercise dose and depression levels and a significant response was observed after 260 METs-min. Our study examined the effectiveness of different types of mind-body exercise in improving depression and found that yoga may be the most effective adjunctive intervention. There was a non-linear dose-response relationship between total exercise and depression levels. However, caution should be exercised in interpreting and applying these results.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) presents patients with chronic pain and functional limitations due to its autoimmune nature. Despite symptomatic and pharmaceutical interventions, many patients experience inadequate relief, prompting exploration into non-pharmacological approaches such as yoga. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of yoga as an adjunctive therapy for RA by examining clinical data from patients experiencing chronic pain and limitations. This study analyzed several clinical cases at the Shymkent City Regional Clinical Hospital. Ten RA patients, irrespective of various demographic factors, were enrolled. Parameters including pain intensity, inflammation activity, systolic blood pressure, joint function, and morning stiffness were assessed to gauge the impact of yoga. The findings demonstrated notable positive changes following a three-month yoga program. These changes encompassed enhanced joint health, reduced pain severity, and decreased disease activity. Particularly noteworthy was the reduction in morning stiffness by an average of 31 min, alongside a decrease in the average pain index from 80 mm to 41.5 mm. The mean RA activity level decreased from 5.8 to 4.7. Furthermore, mean systolic blood pressure decreased by 15.5 mmHg, and mean cholesterol levels decreased from 5.3 mmol/L to 4.8 mmol/L. These results underscore the potential significance of yoga as a supplementary intervention for RA. Yoga practice may enhance patients' quality of life and alleviate disease symptoms. Nevertheless, the study's limited sample size necessitates caution, and further research is warranted to validate these findings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Analyze the effects of interventions with home-based physical exercise on the health of patients with fibromyalgia and the characteristics of the protocols used. METHODS This systematic review was registered at PROSPERO and followed the PRISMA recommendations. Searches were performed in six electronic databases. Eligibility criteria for the selection of studies were compiled using the acronym PICOS. Data were extracted and checked in a Microsoft Excel® spreadsheet and the risk of bias was assessed using the Rob 2 tool. RESULTS The search resulted in seven studies included for analysis. Among them, the most common modality was aerobic exercise. The analyzed outcomes were: pain, quality of life, depression, anxiety, disease severity, physical function, pain catastrophizing, self-efficacy, psychological well-being, sleep quality and somatosensory and temporal discrimination. The effects of home-based exercise are limited, and improvements in pain and quality of life was found. For the other outcomes, the results were inconclusive. Most studies presented some concerns about the risk of bias. CONCLUSION It is necessary to expand the evidence on home-based exercises for fibromyalgia, as this is the first systematic review on the subject. Subsequent research should focus on methodological rigor and protocol detail, allowing findings to be replicated.

Abstract
Background Given limited yoga research in health disparities populations, we developed and evaluated a 12-week Spanish language yoga program for Latiné women with overweight or obesity affected by cancer. The program aimed to empower participants through culturally tailored yoga practice and opportunities for social connection and support. Methods Partnering with a community-based organization, the program was co-created by bilingual (English and Spanish-speaking) yoga instructors, Latiné cancer survivor support professionals, and integrative medicine researchers. The single arm intervention consisted of 12 separate, 60-minute Hatha yoga classes, including physical postures, breathing exercises, culturally relevant poetry, and post-practice socialization opportunities. Measures were administered at baseline, 12-week, and 24-week. Results Thirty-five eligible participants enrolled in the program, demonstrating high feasibility and relevance as well as high levels of engagement in home practice. Some participants faced barriers to regular home practice, including family responsibilities and concerns about proper pose execution. Preliminary outcome analyses indicated improvements in sleep disturbance, pain interference, depression, and blood pressure post-intervention, with sustained improvements in depression, anxiety, and blood pressure at 24-week. No significant changes were observed in fatigue, physical function, positive affect, satisfaction with social roles and activities, and weight. Structured post-practice social snack time with yoga instructors (compared with unstructured time with peers) was associated with self-reported improvements in satisfaction with social roles and activities and weight loss. Conclusion This yoga program successfully engaged female Latiné cancer survivors with overweight and obesity and serves as a foundational step in empowering this population to improve their health and well-being through culturally tailored yoga practice. Future research should utilize controlled study designs and engage participants from different geographical regions to study the efficacy and sustainability of findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mobile eHealth apps have been used as a complementary treatment to increase the quality of life of patients and provide new opportunities for the management of rheumatic diseases. Telemedicine, particularly in the areas of prevention, diagnostics, and therapy, has become an essential cornerstone in the care of patients with rheumatic diseases. OBJECTIVE This study aims to improve the design and technology of YogiTherapy and evaluate its usability and quality. METHODS We newly implemented the mobile eHealth app YogiTherapy with a modern design, the option to change language, and easy navigation to improve the app's usability and quality for patients. After refinement, we evaluated the app by conducting a study with 16 patients with AS (4 female and 12 male; mean age 48.1, SD 16.8 y). We assessed the usability of YogiTherapy with a task performance test (TPT) with a think-aloud protocol and the quality with the German version of the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS). RESULTS In the TPT, the participants had to solve 6 tasks that should be performed on the app. The overall task completion rate in the TPT was high (84/96, 88% completed tasks). Filtering for videos and navigating to perform an assessment test caused the largest issues during the TPT, while registering in the app and watching a yoga video were highly intuitive. Additionally, 12 (75%) of the 16 participants completed the German version of MARS. The quality of YogiTherapy was rated with an average MARS score of 3.79 (SD 0.51) from a maximum score of 5. Furthermore, results from the MARS questionnaire demonstrated a positive evaluation regarding functionality and aesthetics. CONCLUSIONS The refined and tested YogiTherapy app showed promising results among most participants. In the future, the app could serve its function as a complementary treatment for patients with AS. For this purpose, surveys with a larger number of patients should still be conducted. As a substantial advancement, we made the app free and openly available on the iOS App and Google Play stores.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To summarise the effect of mind-body exercises on anxiety and depression symptoms in adults with anxiety or depressive disorders. DESIGN Systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression. DATA SOURCES Five electronic databases were searched from inception to July 2022. Manual searches were conducted to explore clinical trial protocols, secondary analyses of clinical trials and related systematic reviews. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Randomised clinical trials evaluating qigong, tai chi or yoga styles with anxiety or depression symptoms as the outcomes were included. No intervention, waitlist or active controls were considered as control groups. The risk of bias and the certainty of the evidence were assessed. Meta-analyses, meta-regressions and sensitivity analyses were performed. RESULTS 23 studies, comprising 22 different samples (n=1420), were included. Overall, meta-analyses showed yoga interventions were superior to controls in reducing anxiety symptoms in anxiety disorders. Furthermore, yoga-based interventions decreased depression symptoms in depressive disorders after conducting sensitivity analyses. No differences between groups were found in the rest of the comparisons. However, the certainty of the evidence was judged as very low for all outcomes due to concerns of high risk of bias, indirectness of the evidence, inconsistency and imprecision of the results. In addition, there was marked heterogeneity among yoga-based interventions and self-reported tools used to evaluate the outcomes of interest. CONCLUSION Although yoga-based interventions may help to improve mental health in adults diagnosed with anxiety or depressive disorders, methodological improvements are needed to advance the quality of clinical trials in this field. Abstract
Yoga, a long-standing Indian tradition, has gained popularity globally, inspiring many different disciplines to employ it as a complementary treatment for various diseases. Yoga is primarily composed of numerous physical poses and positions that are coupled with breathing techniques, profound relaxation, and meditation. There are many types of yoga with varying levels of difficulty. Yoga, consisting of various poses and postures with distinct postural mechanics, is frequently highlighted as an exercise that improves both physical and mental health. Applying the proper techniques to yoga poses can boost balance, strength, and flexibility while also improving general health and quality of life. In addition to its physical benefits, it is recognized that yoga enhances an individual's mood, anxiety, and depression levels and their ability to deal with stress. Rheumatic diseases affect many different organs, particularly the musculoskeletal structures, and negatively impact patients' quality of life. Maintaining a sufficient level of exercise is essential to preserve and enhance physical function in addition to pharmaceutical therapy, the mainstay of rheumatic disease treatment. In treatment guidelines for many rheumatic diseases, exercise, and physiotherapy techniques are stressed as the most substantial component of non-pharmacological treatment. This review considered yoga a form of exercise outside of traditional practices. From this perspective, we aimed to summarize the efficacy of yoga practices on various rheumatic diseases. Additionally, we aimed to highlight possible mechanisms of action.

Abstract
A wide variety of musculoskeletal, arthritic, connective tissue, and vasculitic diseases fall under the umbrella of "rheumatic diseases". Ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia syndrome are the three members of this disease group with relatively high prevalence. Pharmacological options are at the center of therapeutic algorithms in treating rheumatic diseases, particularly in reducing inflammation. Despite significant advances in pharmacological treatment in recent years, achieving complete treatment success in a group of patients is impossible. Therefore, patients with rheumatic diseases frequently utilize alternative treatment options, such as complementary and alternative medicine. Complementary and alternative medicine is a broad category of health practices not part of the leading health system. Patients with rheumatic diseases turn to complementary and alternative medicine for various reasons, including restricted access to some treatments due to high prices and rigorous regulations, worries about drug side effects, and symptoms that continue despite pharmacological treatment. In addition, because complementary and alternative medicine options are considered natural, they are frequently accepted as well tolerated and have few harmful effects. Ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia syndrome are the primary foci of this comprehensive review. First, we attempted to summarize the non-traditional physical medicine and complementary and alternative medicine options that can be utilized to manage these diseases. Second, we addressed the link between exercise and inflammation in rheumatic diseases. We briefly discussed the possible benefits of exercise-based approaches. In addition, we highlighted the benefits of cooperation between rheumatology and physical medicine-rehabilitation clinics.
