Abstract
Double-cable conjugated polymers with near-infrared (NIR) electron acceptors are synthesized for use in single-component organic solar cells (SCOSCs). Through the development of a judicious synthetic pathway, the highly sensitive nature of the 2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydroinden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (IC)-based electron acceptors in basic and protonic solvents is overcome. In addition, an asymmetric design motif is adopted to optimize the packing of donor and acceptor segments, enhancing charge separation efficiency. As such, the new double-cable polymers are successfully applied in SCOSCs, providing an efficiency of over 10 % with a broad photo response from 300 to 850 nm and exhibiting excellent thermal/light stability. These results demonstrate the powerful design of NIR-acceptor-based double-cable polymers and will enable SCOSCs to enter a new stage.

Abstract
The presented study describes the method for the synthesis and characterization of a new class of conjugated copolymers containing a perylenediimide (PDI) and naphthalene diimide (NDI) side groups. The main conjugated backbone is a donor-acceptor polymer poly[3,6-carbazole-alt-5,5-(4',7'-di-2-thienyl-2',1',3'-benzothiadiazole)] containing thiophene and carbazole as donor units and benzothiadiazole as an acceptor unit. The presented compounds were synthesized in a multistep synthesis. The polymerization was carried out by Suzuki or Stille coupling reaction. Redox properties of the studied polymers were tested in different conditions. Electrochemical investigation revealed independent reduction of the main polymer chain and diimide side groups. UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed the overlap of two absorption spectra. The difference between the electron affinity of the polymer main chain and that of the diimides estimated electrochemically is approximately 0.3 eV.

Abstract
Excited state dynamics of two-dimensional-like conjugated copolymers PFDCN and PFSDCN based on alternating fluorene and triphenylamine main chains and malononitrile pendant acceptor groups with thiophene as π-bridge, have been investigated by using transient absorption spectroscopy. There is an additional conjugated -C=C- bond in PFDCN, which distinguishes it from PFSDCN. The lowest energy absorption band of each copolymer absorption spectrum is attributed to the π-π* transition with intramolecular charge-transfer, which has a lower fluorescence contribution than those of higher energy absorption bands. The optical excitation of either PFDCN or PFSDCN solution generates polaron pairs that then self-localize and evolve to a bound singlet exciton within a few picoseconds. Due to the additional conjugated -C=C- bond in the acceptor side-chain, PFDCN has a stronger intramolecular charge-transfer characteristic compared with PFSDCN, therefore exhibiting a longer self-localization time (7 ps vs. 3 ps for PFSDCN) and a shorter fluorescence lifetime (1.48 ns vs. 1.60 ns for PFSDCN).

Abstract
The first approach for the preparation of metal nanoparticle/semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) hybrids with specified chirality is described. For this purpose, a copolymer of a fluorene derivative with two long-chain alkyl substituents and a carbazole derivative carrying a thiol group was used. The copolymer was found to selectively dissolve (7,6)- and (8,7)SWNTs, as determined by UV/Vis/NIR absorption and Raman spectroscopy and 2D photoluminescence mapping. Gold and silver nanoparticles with diameters of about 3.8 and about 3.2 nm, respectively, were readily attached along the SWNTs by means of coordination bonds between the nanoparticles and the thiol moieties on the copolymer, as revealed by atomic force and electron microscopy studies. The study provides a novel way to design and fabricate metal nanoparticle/semiconducting SWNT hybrids with specific nanotube chirality.
