Synthesis of 5,7-diarylindoles via Suzuki-Miyaura coupling in water

The synthesis of novel 5,7-diaryl and diheteroaryl indoles has been explored via efficient double Suzuki-Miyaura coupling. The method notably employs a low catalyst loading of Pd(PPh₃)₄ (1.5 mol%/coupling) and water as the reaction solvent to obtain 5,7-diarylated indoles without using N-protecting groups in up to 91% yield. The approach is also suitable for N-protected and 3-substituted indoles and constitutes an important green and convenient arylation strategy for the benzenoid ring of indoles. The synthesized diarylindoles are fluorescent.

Electrosynthesis of Electrochromic Polymer Membranes Based on 3,6-Di(2-thienyl)carbazole and Thiophene Derivatives

Five carbazole-containing polymeric membranes (PDTC, P(DTC-co-BTP), P(DTC-co-BTP2), P(DTC-co-TF), and P(DTC-co-TF2)) were electrodeposited on transparent conductive electrodes. P(DTC-co-BTP2) shows a high ΔT (68.4%) at 855 nm. The multichromic properties of P(DTC-co-TF2) membrane range between dark yellow, yellowish-green, gunmetal gray, and dark gray in various reduced and oxidized states. Polymer-based organic electrochromic devices are assembled using 2,2'-bithiophene- and 2-(2-thienyl)furan-based copolymers as anodic membranes, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PEDOT-PSS) as the cathodic membrane. P(DTC-co-TF)/PEDOT-PSS electrochromic device (ECD) displays a high transmittance change (ΔT%) (43.4%) at 627 nm as well as a rapid switching time (less than 0.6 s) from a colored to a bleached state. Moreover, P(DTC-co-TF2)/PEDOT-PSS ECD shows satisfactory optical memory (the transmittance change is less than 2.9% in the colored state) and high coloration efficiency (512.6 cm2 C-1) at 627 nm.

High-Performance Asymmetric Electrochromic-Supercapacitor Device Based on Poly(indole-6-carboxylicacid)/TiO2 Nanocomposites

A difunctional porous network of poly(indole-6-carboxylicacid) (PICA)/TiO₂ nanocomposites is first prepared using TiO₂ nanorod arrays as the scaffold. Because of the synergistic effect of PICA and TiO₂, the nanocomposites show good electrochemical performance, a high specific capacitance value (23.34 mF cm^-2), and excellent galvanostatic charge-discharge stability. Meanwhile, this nanocomposite can be reversibly switched (yellow, green, brown) with a high coloration efficiency (124 cm² C^-1). An asymmetric electrochromic-supercapacitor device (ESD) is also constructed using the PICA/TiO₂ nanocomposites as the anode material and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) as the cathode material. This ESD has robust cycle stability and a high specific capacitance value (9.65 mF cm^-2), which can be switched from light green to dark blue. After charging, the device can light up a single LED for 108 s, and the energy storage level can also be monitored by the corresponding color changes. This constructed ESD will have great potential applications in intelligent energy storage and other smart electronic fields.

Freestanding flexible polymer films based on bridging of two EDOT units with functionalized chains for use in long-term-stable supercapacitors

Freestanding flexible films were prepared by cross-linking two EDOT unit with fictionalized flexible chains, the application of these films in supercapacitors showed excellent cycling life.
