Abstract
PURPOSE A significant portion of parents of children diagnosed with sarcoma experience excessive stress and anxiety disorder. This quality improvement project aimed to implement a psychological support service program tailored for parents of children with sarcoma and evaluate its effects. DESIGN AND METHODS An interprofessional team was formed through a health-social partnership to deliver comprehensive psychological support service program involving multiple cognitive-behavioral components to parents of children with sarcoma. Parents who were identified as having excessive stress and/or anxiety disorder and voluntarily agreed to participate were enrolled. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted, and previously recorded data from parents of children hospitalized in the year prior to this quality improvement project were included as historical controls. RESULTS A total of 48 parents, including 35 mothers and 13 fathers, participated in the quality improvement project. Results showed that participants achieved greater reduction in emotional, somatic, and behavioral stress when compared with historical controls (all p < .001). Significantly lower prevalence of moderate to severe anxiety disorder was also found (4.2% vs. 85.4%, p < .001). CONCLUSIONS The implementation of a psychological support service program, informed by cognitive-behavioral theory and delivered through a health-social partnership, effectively alleviated multiple facets of stress and anxiety disorder in parents of children newly diagnosed with sarcoma. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Nurses can facilitate and coordinate the collaboration among interprofessional team to deliver specialized psychological support services and ensure that parents of children with sarcoma have access to these services, ultimately enhancing their psychological well-being.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Childhood cancer caregivers report psychological distress and unmet psychosocial needs, affecting outcomes for their children. An experimental study was carried out to measure the effectiveness of an intervention in addressing traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. METHODS Caregivers (n = 59) of children with ALL were allocated to both groups (intervention, n = 29; TAU control, n = 30) via the SNOSE method. The intervention is a physical copy of a 2-week psychosocial self-help guidebook. Scores on the PCL-5, BDI and BAI were recorded at baseline, post-intervention and 1-month follow-up. RESULTS There was a statistically significant difference in traumatic stress symptoms post intervention (F(1, 57) = 5.760, p = .020, np2 = 0.093) in favor of the intervention group. No statistical significance was found for its effect at one-month follow-up, overall depression and anxiety. CONCLUSION A psychosocial module developed for caregivers of children with ALL was found to be effective in reducing symptoms of traumatic stress and potentially depression. However, the maintenance of its effectiveness and the effectiveness on anxiety requires further study.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Childhood cancers are one of the important health problems in both developed and underdeveloped countries. The cancer treatment process is a difficult period that can last for months or years, interrupt school activities for a while, or even cause them to leave completely, and require long-term hospitalization. PURPOSE This study was carried out to develop the Back to School Readiness Scale for Children with Oncological Problems: 7-18 years of age, and to establish its validity and reliability. METHOD The research is a methodological study and the validity and reliability study of a developed scale was conducted. RESULTS Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was determined as 0.951. As a result of Bartlett's test analysis, Chi-Square value is 6261.566, degree of freedom is 703 and the value found is significant (p = 0.00, p < 0.05). While the loadings of the items on the first factor vary between 0.79 and 0.46, the loads on the second factor vary between 0.76 and.47. The item-total-test correlation value is 0.63. Total Croncabh alpha (α) value of the scale is 0.97. CONCLUSION Back to School Readiness Scale for Children with Oncological Problems: 7-18 years of age is a valid and reliable measurement tool. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Returning to school is a difficult process for children living with cancer due to long-term hospitalization. This scale can be used by both pediatric nurses and school nurses to evaluate children's return to school. Additionally, children and families can get an idea about preparing for returning to school by applying this scale.

Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to build a model combining some variables that have been previously studied separately to improve our understanding on how they relate in parents of children with cancer. A total of 112 parents with an average age of 41 completed the self-assessment questionnaires containing the factors studied: social support received, social support provided, stress, adjustment of parents and life satisfaction. Two models were developed: one for social support received and one for social support provided. Structural equation models based on the variance estimated through partial least squares were used to analyze factors involved in quality of life based on an exploratory model of second order. The estimated model was robust in terms of quality of measurement (reliability and validity). According to results from the structural model, in the model of social support received, the impact of social support received on stress was considerable (β = -0.26; p = 0.02) and it explained 16% of the variance. The impact of social support received by parents on their adjustment (β = -0.56; p < 0.001) was also considerable, explaining 32% of the variance. Finally, adjustment of parents also showed an effect on life satisfaction (β = -0.33; p < 0.001) and it explained 26% of the variance. However, the relation between social support received (β = 0.15; p = 0.11) and life satisfaction, the relation between stress (β = -0.15; p = 0.08) and life satisfaction, and the relation between adjustment of parents (β = 0.20; p = 0.07) and stress were not significant. In the model of social support provided by parents, social support provided (β = 0.35; p < 0.001), and adjustment of parents (β = -0.31; p < 0.01) impacted life satisfaction, explaining 36% of the variance. Social support provided (β = -0.34; p < 0.01) impacted adjustment of parents and it explained 12% of the variance. Adjustment of parents (β = 0.28; p < 0.05) also impacted parents' perception of stress, explaining 14% of the variance. However, the relation between social support provided (β = -0.17; p = 0.06) and stress, and the relation between stress (β = -0.13; p = 0.08) and life satisfaction, were not significant. Social support received showed a strong connection with stress and parents' adjustment. Additionally, social support received showed a decrease in stress and parents' adjustment. Social support provided by parents and the adjustments they experience are linked to their life satisfaction. Additionally, social support provided showed a decrease in adjustment and an increase in parents' life satisfaction. The models can be used to improve parents' situations and it has strong practical implications.

Abstract
Introduction The present study aims at analysing how social support received and provided by parents of children, adolescents and young adults (AYA) diagnosed with cancer, as well as their sociodemographic and clinical variables, affect those parents’ stress levels and life and family satisfaction. Materials and Methods A total of 112 parents of children and AYAs who had been diagnosed with cancer and who received treatment in Malaga participated in the study. In the study, participated all parents who voluntarily agreed to fulfil the questionnaire. The main inclusion criterion was that their child had cancer. Instruments used were Questionnaire on the Frequency of and Satisfaction with Social Support (QFSSS), Paediatric Inventory for Parents (PIP), Life Satisfaction Scale and Family Satisfaction Scale. Results In the mean difference analyses, male parents showed 3.38 (SD = 0.56) in social support received and female parents showed M = 3.08 (SD = 0.72). Conversely, in social support provided, female parents showed 3.22 and male parents showed M = 3.55 (p = 0.020). Significant differences were also found in family satisfaction, where female parents (M = 3.64) feel more satisfied than male parents (M = 3.06; p = 0.027). Parents of children aged between 0 and 14 years (M = 3.06) feel more stress than those parents of children aged 15–21 (M = 2.61; p = 0.021). The correlation analysis shows that there is a negative and significant relation between stress levels experienced by parents when facing different situations related to the child’s disease and both types of support, received r = −0.411, p < 0.001 and provided r = −0.282, p < 0.01. There is also a positive and significant relation between life satisfaction and social support received r = 0.292, p < 0.01, and social support provided r = 0.409, p < 0.001. There is a positive and significant relation between family satisfaction and social support received r = 0.330, p < 0.01, in the same way as with social support provided r = 0.222, p < 0.05. The regression analysis related to stress levels of parents indicates that social support received predicts levels of stress significantly p < 0.001, with the variable of number of children being the one that showed to be significant p < 0.05. Social support provided showed the most significant results p = 0.001, meaning that social support provided increased life satisfaction. Social support received explains family satisfaction (p = 0.50), as it increases the family satisfaction of parents of children with cancer. Discussion Analysing social support received and provided, as well as sociodemographic and clinical variables, allowed us to broaden the knowledge on the effect social support has on stress levels, life satisfaction and family satisfaction in parents of children and AYAs diagnosed with cancer. This may have relevant practical implications for the design of interventions that would improve parents’ lives.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this work is to compare posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) between families of children on cancer treatment and families of healthy children in China and to analyse the association among child PTSS, parent PTSS, and depression in the cancer group. METHODS Participants were children on cancer treatment (n = 91) and their parents (n = 91), and healthy children (n = 114) and their parents (n = 96). The children were asked to self-report PTSS, and the parents completed self-reported measures of PTSS and depression. RESULTS Although the prevalence of probable PTSD in children on cancer treatment was higher than that in comparisons (8.79% vs. 0.88%, P < 0.01), no statistic differences in PTSS levels were found between the two groups (P > 0.05). However, significant differences in PTSS levels and the prevalence of severe PTSS (21.98% vs. 1.04%) between parents of children with cancer and comparisons were observed (P < 0.001). Parent PTSS and depression were positively associated with child PTSS in the cancer group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION The prevalence of probable PTSD in Chinese children with cancer was low, but PTSS was remarkably prevalent in their parents. Greater parent PTSS and depression were related to greater child PTSS. Results underline the importance to provide supportive psychological care for Chinese parents of children undergoing cancer treatment.

Abstract
Objetivo: El presente estudio se plantea como objetivo principal analizar cómo la resiliencia de los padres de niños diagnosticados con enfermedad oncológica influye en la percepción de estrés y en la satisfacción vital. Metodología: Participaron 112 padres de niños con patología oncológica que recibían tratamiento en Málaga. Los datos fueron recogidos a través de medidas de autoinforme. Resultados: Existe una relación significativa y negativa entre la resiliencia y el estrés percibido, y una relación significativa y positiva entre la resiliencia y la satisfacción vital. En el estudio por dimensiones de la resiliencia y el estrés, la competencia personal de los padres disminuye el estrés R2 = 0,24; F = 12,12; p<0,0001 y la dimensión de la resiliencia aceptación de uno mismo aumenta la satisfacción vital R2 = 0,42; F = 31,24; p<0,0001. Conclusiones: El análisis de la resiliencia a través de sus dimensiones ha permitido conocer el papel que tiene sobre el estrés y la satisfacción vital de los padres con niños con cáncer. Estos resultados pueden tener importantes implicaciones prácticas en el diseño de las intervenciones que mejoren su calidad de vida.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Evidence-based knowledge is needed to reduce psychological symptoms in families of young children with cancer after treatment ends. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of a psychotherapeutic intervention, FAMily-Oriented Support (FAMOS) on parents of young children after cancer treatment. METHODS All families of children aged 0-6 years who had been treated for cancer at one of the four paediatric oncology departments in Denmark were invited to participate after ending intensive medical treatment. The families were randomly assigned 1:1 to up to seven sessions of FAMOS, a cognitive-behavioural manualised home intervention, for 6 months or to usual psychosocial care. The primary outcome was parents' symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at 6 and 12 months after enrolment. The secondary outcomes were parents' symptoms of depression and anxiety. RESULTS We enrolled 109 families (204 parents). Parents in the intervention group did not show a statistically significant decrease in symptoms of PTSD as compared with the control group at 6 months (predicted mean difference, -0.10; 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.19, 0.01), but a statistically significant decrease was seen at 12 months (predicted mean difference, -0.15; 95% CI -0.28, -0.02), and they had significantly lower symptoms of depression at both 6 and 12 months. Differences in reductions in symptoms of anxiety were not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS The FAMOS intervention reduced parents' symptoms of PTSD and depression. Next step is to also report on psychological effects in the children and siblings (clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02200731).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study is to determine the relation between the satisfaction of parents of children with cancer with the social support received and provided from a multidimensional perspective (sources and types of support) and the disruptions that take place in different areas of their lives (partner, children, family, social relations, and economic and employment situation). METHOD One hundred twelve parents of children diagnosed with cancer who received treatment at the Mother and Child Hospital of Málaga (Spain) were recruited. Data were gathered through self-reporting measures. The instrument used includes a questionnaire about socio-demographic variables, a questionnaire about parents' adjustment to the situation and a questionnaire about social support received and provided based on the different sources and types of support. RESULTS There is a negative and significant relation between satisfaction with support received and provided and the magnitude of disruptions in parents' lives. CONCLUSION Satisfaction with emotional support received from the partner and family, and support provided to these sources, relate to lower disruption in different areas of parents' lives. These results can have significant practical implications for the psychosocial care provided to parents of children with cancer.
