Abstract
Kidney stones refer to abnormal crystal formation that occurs in the kidney. Among a variety of components of kidney stones, calcium oxalate (CaOx) is the most common type. Despite many efforts to investigate the pathogenesis of CaOx stones, the pathogenesis remains an issue of debate. With high occurrence and recurrence, individuals with stone formation are prone to frequently consult a doctor and to be hospitalized, and the treatment of kidney stones poses a heavy burden on the patients. Concerns should be focused not only on treatment but also on prevention. Herein, we reviewed the studies on prevention methods of CaOx stones through diet, lifestyle, and medication extending until the current time frame. As hyperoxaluria is the most common metabolic disorder among CaOx stone formations, we also included several studies on the treatment and prevention of hyperoxaluria. Our objective was to outline the effective methods to prevent renal CaOx stone formation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kidney stones (KSs), in fact, have been considered one of the most ancient and prevalent medical conditions that impact a significant number of human beings all around the world. Such stones can range greatly in size and can be detected in any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, or bladder itself. The development of stones is caused by the mineral's crystallization, which then interacts with each other and adheres together. Kidney stone formation can represent a prime medical condition for which there are numerous therapies available, among them natural ones. Recurrence of stones after curing is very common, and strategies available to prevent their reoccurrence or even their development for the first time are numerous, with enhanced fluid consumption or avoiding dehydration being the most important one. OBJECTIVE The current review article aims to draw attention to the potential of natural remedies besides lifestyle modification in the management and prevention of KSs. This is not arbitrary but based on real, documented scientific evidence. METHOD The natural remedies mentioned in the context of this manuscript were chosen for their availability in almost all nations, or perhaps even in every home. RESULTS The findings of the present article are very promising and exhibit the potential benefit of natural remedies in addition to shifting to a healthy lifestyle in both the treatment and prevention of KSs.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Pisonia alba Span commonly known as lettuce tree or bird catcher tree leaf extracts in controlling Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes, which transmit several severe illnesses, such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, yellow fever, West Nile virus, lymphatic filariasis and Japanese encephalitis. METHODS Sequential extraction of P. alba leaves was done using n-hexane, chloroform, and methanol. The larvicidal, pupicidal, and ovicidal activities of the extracts were evaluated against both mosquito species using standard bioassays. The concentrations of the extracts required to kill 50% of the mosquito larvae, pupae, and ova (LC50) were determined. RESULTS The results showed that the methanol extract of P. alba had significant potential in killing the larvae, pupae, and ova of both mosquito species, with LC50 values of 65.0 and 54.5 ppm for larvicidal activity, 73.7 and 69.7 ppm for pupicidal activity, and 78.4 and 80.0 ppm for ovicidal activity against Ae. aegypti and Cx. quinquefasciatus, respectively. The n-hexane extract demonstrated moderate larvicidal activity, while the n-hexane and chloroform extracts lacked ovicidal activity. CONCLUSION The methanol extract from Pisonia alba could be a natural and eco-friendly alternative for controlling mosquito populations responsible for transmitting vector-borne diseases. Further research is warranted to determine their practical applications in controlling mosquito populations in the field.

Abstract
The acute situation, caused by an obstructive stone, is defined by a renal colic that may be uncomplicated, complicated, or at risk in specific conditions. Its management may be medical or require interventional treatment by extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, endoscopic removal, or ureteroscopy. METHODOLOGY: These recommendations were developed using two methods, the Clinical Practice Recommendations (CPR) and the ADAPTE method, in function of whether the question was considered in the European Association of Urology (EAU) recommendations (https://uroweb.org/guidelines/urolithiasis) [EAU Guidelines on urolithiasis. 2022] and whether they could be adapted to the French context.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To analyze the dose-dependent preventive effect of a plant-based herbal product on the new crystal formation in a rat model. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 42 rats were divided into 7 groups and zinc discs were placed into the bladder of rats to provide a nidus for the development of new crystal formation: Group 1: control, Group 2: 0.75 percent ethylene glycol (EG); Group 3: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.051 ml of the compound; Group 4: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.179 ml of the compound; Group 5: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.217 ml of the compound; Group 6: 0.75 percent EG plus 0.255 ml of the compound; Group 7 0.75 percent EG plus 0.332 of the compound). The analysis and comparison focused on the disc weights, changes in urinary oxalate and calcium levels, urinary pH, and the histopathologic evaluation of the inflammatory changes in the bladder after 14 days. RESULTS According to the evaluation of discs placed in the bladders of the animals, animals receiving the herbal compound on a dose-dependent basis showed a limited increase in the disc weights values after 14 days, despite a considerable increase in animals receiving EG alone (p = 0.001). Further evaluation of the increase in disc weights on a dose-dependent basis in different subgroups (from Groups 3 to 7) demonstrated that the limitation of crystal deposition began to be more prominent as the dose of herbal compound increased. This effect was more evident particularly in comparisons between group 7 and others, according to LSD multiple comparison tests (p = 0.001). As anticipated, there has been no discernible change in the weight of the discs in the control group. Although urinary calcium levels in animals of Groups 2, 6, and 7 were significantly higher than the other groups, we were not able to demonstrate a close correlation between urinary oxalate levels and the increasing dose levels. Even though mean urine pH levels were statistically considerably higher in Group 3, there was no statistically significant correlation between the oxalate and calcium levels between all groups, and no association was seen with the administration of herbal agents. The transitional epithelium between the three groups of animals' bladder samples did not exhibit any appreciable difference according to pathological analysis. CONCLUSIONS In this animal model, the treatment of the compound was successful in lowering the amount of crystal deposition surrounding the zinc discs, most noticeably at a dosage of 0.332 ml, three times per day.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Psidium guajava L leaves and phenytoin as a standard agent on the induced oral mucosal wound. Methods Hundred seventy Sprague Dawley rats were grouped in 5 clusters randomly. Oral mucosal wounds were induced in all rats except for the control group. Phenytoin and guajava leaf extract were used as a mouthwash. Twelve rats from the 5 groups were euthanized on day 7th and 10th, and 10 rats from each group were sacrificed on the 14th day. Interleukin-6 and total antioxidant capacity were determined in the serum. The tissues were evaluated for pathological and stereological assessments. Phytochemical analyses were performed on the hydroalcoholic extract of Psidium guajava L to determine the antioxidant potency. Results Total phenolic content test and DPPH analysis demonstrated the high potential of antioxidant capacity of Psidium guajava L. Decreasing IL-6 and increasing TAC were seen in the guajava hydroalcoholic extract and phenytoin groups. The difference of IL-6 between the wound treated guajava group and the wounded group was significant. The wound treated guajava group and wound treated phenytoin group on the 14th day increased the number of fibroblast cells and volume density of sub-mucosae effectively to the same thickness to be considered as a healed sub-mucosae layer. The volume density of the epithelium changes showed statistically significant different responses based on gender. Conclusion In conclusion, hydroalcoholic extract of Psidium guajava L leaves might exert theraputic effects on oral mucositis. Abstract
The current study investigated the impact of different doses of Nigella sativa seeds on the symptoms, the cluster of differentiation profile group, and inflammatory markers of mild COVID-19 cases. METHODS The study was a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial. Patients with mild and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection patients were randomly subdivided into seven subgroups: Group (GP) 1: received charcoal capsules as a control group, and GP 2: received three capsules of whole Nigella sativa seeds daily, two capsules in the morning and one in the evening; GP 3: received three capsules of whole Nigella sativa seeds every 12 h, GP 4: received five capsules in the morning and four capsules of whole Nigella sativa seeds in the evening, GP 5: received one capsule of Nigella sativa powder every 12 h; GP 6: received two capsules of Nigella sativa powder every 12 h; GP 7: received three capsules of Nigella sativa powder every 12 h; all treatment course was for ten days. Inflammatory parameters were assessed before and after interventions. RESULTS 262 subjects were included in the final analysis. No significant difference was detected regarding age, gender, and nationality. No significant differences were detected between the inflammatory marker in all groups. The WBCs showed a significant difference between before and after the intervention. While for procalcitonin, a significant difference was demonstrated in groups 1,4, and 6. CONCLUSIONS The current randomized clinical trial did not reveal a significant effect of ten days of treatment with various doses of Nigella sativa on symptoms, differentiation profile, and inflammatory markers of patients with COVID-19. As a natural product, the effect of Nigella sativa on disease requires weeks to manifest itself.

Abstract
Introduction. The importance of women’s health and the quality of life after menopause is a critical issue. To prevent disability and menopause complications as well as avoid the side effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), in this study, licorice hydroalcoholic extract (Glycyrrhiza uralensis roots) was evaluated as a natural remedy. Methods. Seventy-two female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into six groups: control group, Sham-operated group, Glycyrrhiza (Gly) 30% group, and ovariectomized group as well as two ovariectomized groups treated with Gly 10% and Gly 30%. Normal saline and different treatments were administered orally for 8 weeks. At the end of the study, calcium, alkaline phosphatase, estrogen, and progesterone levels in the ovariectomized rats were determined. Moreover, the stereological and histopathological changes in uterine tissue in all groups were determined. Phytochemical analyses were also performed to determine the total phenolic content and antioxidant potential of the extract. Result. The hydroalcoholic extract of licorice root exhibited considerable effect to improve calcium, estrogen, and progesterone levels in the ovariectomized rats. Also, hydroalcoholic extract of licorice root successfully decreases the amount of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level. The stereological and histopathological findings confirmed the therapeutic potential of this extract. The considerable effects of hydroalcoholic extract of licorice root could be due to high amounts of phytoestrogens with similar estrogen-like structures. Considerable total phenolic content and antioxidant activity were also seen in licorice root extract. Conclusion. Hydroalcoholic extract of licorice root due to containing high amounts of phytoestrogens with similar chemical structures to estradiol notably improves biochemical parameters as well as stereological and histopathological markers of uterine tissues in ovariectomy rats, so it could be a potential agent for prevention and/or treatment as hormone replacement therapy in healthy middle-aged and/or older women.

Abstract
Kidney stone disease is the third most common urological ailment worldwide, people. The mechanism of stone formation includes: urine supersaturation, aggregation, retention, nucleation, and growth of crystals in the cells of the renal tubular epithelium. Kidney stones may cause extreme pain and blockage of urine flow. They are usually treated with conventional drugs and shock wave (ESWL) as well as a variety of medications that may cause several adverse effects. The remaining stone fragments and the risk of infection following ESWL are major challenges in the treatment of kidney stones. Recently, despite the emergence of modern drugs, medicinal plants have been recognized and utilized in many nations clinically due to their safety profile, efficiency, cultural acceptance, and fewer side effects than approved drugs. Medicinal plants are used in different cultures as a reliable source of natural remedies. The aim of this review is to provide comprehensive information about traditionally used plants as well as their scientifically proven pharmacological activities, their primary chemical ingredients, and potential mechanisms of action, such as analgesic, astringent, demulcent, diuretic activity, antioxidant activity, inhibition of the inflammatory process, nucleation inhibition, crystallization inhibition, inhibition of crystal aggregation, reducing , reducing stone size, and reducing urine supersaturation.

Abstract
Thymoquinone is a main bioactive compound of Nigella sativa L. (N.sativa), which has been used for clinical studies in the treatment of seizures due to its beneficial neuroprotective activity and antiepileptic effects. It has been evidenced that thymoquinone may inhibit the activity of cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9). However, little is known about the effect of thymoquinone or N.sativa on the pharmacokinetic behavior of phenytoin, a second-line drug widely used in the management of status epilepticus. In this study, we systematically investigated the risk of the potential pharmacokinetic drug interaction between thymoquinone and phenytoin. The inhibitory effect of thymoquinone on phenytoin hydroxylation activity by CYP2C9 was determined using UPLC-MS/MS by measuring the formation rates for p-hydroxyphenytoin (p-HPPH). The potential for drug-interaction between thymoquinone and phenytoin was quantitatively predicted by using in vitro-in vivo extrapolation (IVIVE). Our data demonstrated that thymoquinone displayed effective inhibition against phenytoin hydroxylation activity. Enzyme kinetic studies showed that thymoquinone exerted a competitive inhibition against phenytoin hydroxylation with a Ki value of 4.45 ± 0.51 μM. The quantitative prediction from IVIVE suggested that the co-administration of thymoquinone (>18 mg/day) or thymoquinone-containing herbs (N.sativa > 1 g/day or N.sativa oil >1 g/day) might result in a clinically significant herb-drug interactions. Additional caution should be taken when thymoquinone or thymoquinone-containing herbs are co-administered with phenytoin, which may induce unexpected potential herb-drug interactions via the inhibition of CYP2C9.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is an inflammatory joint condition, still lacking effective treatments. Some factors consider as the main causes of OA, including biochemical, mechanical, and genetic factors. The growth of studies confirmed that modern medicine in combination with folk medicine regarding the arrival of reliable, efficient, and safe therapeutic products against OA. In the present study, the effects of various single and combinatorial treatments of knee articular cartilage, including stem cells, collagen, and P. atlantica hydroalcoholic leaves extract were investigated in a rat-induced OA model. On week 12 after OA confirmation, histopathology and radiography assessments were evaluated and the serum and synovial fluid levels of TAC, TNF-α, PEG2, MPO, MMP3, MMP13, and MDA were also measured. Combination therapy of OA-induced rats with hydroalcoholic extract of P. atlantic leaves, stem cells, and collagen considerably increased the efficacy of treatment as evidenced by increasing the TAC and lowering TNF-α, MPO, MMP3, and MMP13 compared to control group and even groups received single therapy. This is in agreement with a high amount of total phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacities of the hydroalcoholic extract of P. atlantic leaves. It is concluded that multifunctional agents targeting the pathophysiology of OA has exhibited significant therapeutic effects against OA.

Abstract
The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing worldwide, and a close association between acute kidney injury (AKI) and CKD has recently been identified. Black cumin (Nigella sativa) has been shown to be effective in treating various kidney diseases. Accumulating evidence shows that black cumin and its vital compound, thymoquinone (TQ), can protect against kidney injury caused by various xenobiotics, namely chemotherapeutic agents, heavy metals, pesticides, and other environmental chemicals. Black cumin can also protect the kidneys from ischemic shock. The mechanisms underlying the kidney protective potential of black cumin and TQ include antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-apoptosis, and antifibrosis which are manifested in their regulatory role in the antioxidant defense system, NF-κB signaling, caspase pathways, and TGF-β signaling. In clinical trials, black seed oil was shown to normalize blood and urine parameters and improve disease outcomes in advanced CKD patients. While black cumin and its products have shown promising kidney protective effects, information on nanoparticle-guided targeted delivery into kidney is still lacking. Moreover, the clinical evidence on this natural product is not sufficient to recommend it to CKD patients. This review provides insightful information on the pharmacological benefits of black cumin and TQ against kidney damage.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Surgical management is the cornerstone of urolithiasis treatment, but high recurrence rates and associated complications necessitate the existence of medical treatment options, aiming at dissolution of kidney stones and prevention of recurrence. The purpose of this review is to present the most recent knowledge existing in scientific literature, regarding dissolution therapy and ways of monitoring nephrolithiasis patients. RECENT FINDINGS A number of laboratory studies have been performed testing experimental treatments (tolvaptan, chlorthalidone, atorvastatin, a-lipoic acid, glucosaminoglycans, plant extracts), to reduce kidney stone formation and cellular damage and showed encouraging results. Uric acid stones is the main target of dissolution therapy, but until last years, existing level of evidence was low. A number of prospective and randomized studies, proved the efficacy and safety of oral chemolysis for radiolucent stones and associated prognostic features of success. Tolvaptan and a-Lipoic acid were also tested in patients with cystinuria and resulted in reduction of recurrence. Finally, some new diagnostic markers are suggested as tests for the monitoring of urolithiasis patients, with satisfying accuracy and discriminative ability. SUMMARY Medical dissolution therapy for nephrolithiasis is an effective option, especially for patients with radiolucent/uric acid stones. In the future, we need clinical trials to confirm the encouraging results of pilot studies testing several agents for patients with cystinuria.

Abstract
Dental pulp derived-mesenchymal stem cells (DP-MSCs) is considered a suitable are candidate for tissue engineering techniques and osseous reconstruction. Based on the hypothesis that Hypericum perforatum, Elaeagnus Angustifolia and Psidium guajava extracts can be used in cell-based bone tissue engineering due to meagre cytotoxicity response in the cell culture medium, their effects on the viability and metabolic activity of DP-MSCs were investigated and compared with each extract. DP-MSCs were extracted from human dental pulp, characterized by flow cytometry, and differentiated into Osteogenic and adipogenic lineages which were then cultured in different concentrations of E. Angustifolia, H. perforatum and P. guajava extracts at different time intervals followed by MTT assay evaluation. The dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells were evaluated for their plastic adherence ability, fibroblast-like and spindle morphology. According to flow cytometry data, isolated cells from DP-MSCs expressed MSCs markers. A comparison of herbal extracts' concentrations revealed that 500 μg/ml was toxic to dental pulp stem cells, a guide to the toxic dose for DP-MSCs. The P.guajava bore low toxicity and increased dental pulp stem cell viability in comparison to the other two herbal extracts. The hydro-alcoholic extracts of E. Angustifolia, H. perforatum, and P. guajava were efficient in DP-MSCs viability, and therefore were concluded to be useful in maintaining structural and functional cell viability. It was also concluded that the co-culture of stem cells with herbal elements could stimulate endogenous factors to enhance the proliferation and viability of MSCs.

Abstract
The ovariectomized rat is a widely used preclinical model for studying postmenopausal and its complications. In this study, the therapeutic effect of flaxseed oil on the ovariectomized adult rats was investigated. Our results showed that biochemical parameters including calcium, oestrogen and progesterone levels increase 8 weeks after ovariectomy in rats. Also, the amount of alkaline phosphatase decreased significantly after 8 weeks compared with the OVX rat. The healing potential of flaxseed oil was proven by successfully recovering the affected tissue and preventing the unpleasant symptoms of ovariectomized rats. The biological effects of flaxseed oil may be due to high amounts of fatty acids, phytoestrogens and an array of antioxidants. The results suggest that flaxseed oil can mimic the action of oestrogen and can be a potential treatment for hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Abstract
Whey protein is a popular dietary product that has numerous health benefits such as immune modulation. In this study, we assessed efficacy of whey protein in management of patients with contact dermatitis (CD) through a double blind, randomized controlled clinical trial in Emam Reza clinic, Shiraz, Iran. Twenty-five patients in each group were randomly assigned to receive whey protein or placebo powder, 30 g in 200 mL warm water at fasting time for 4 weeks. Outcome measures were Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire and the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) score. Furthermore, subjective total improvement (assessed by visual analogue scale) was set as the other primary outcome measure. A significant decrease was observed in the scores of EASI, DLQI, and subjective total improvement in the drug group after the intervention compared with the baseline. However, no changes were seen in the placebo group. Moreover, there was a significant reduction in the scores of EASI (P = .002) and subjective total improvement scores (P = .039) over the study period in the drug group compared with the placebo group. According to the results of this study, it seems that oral supplementation of whey protein could improve the symptoms of CD compared with placebo.

The effect of Nigella sativa supplementation on cardiovascular risk factors in obese and overweight women: a crossover, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial. Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the effect of Nigella sativa (N.S) oil supplements on CVD risk factors in a crossover design for the first time. METHODS Obese and overweight healthy women were randomized to receive N.S oil (2000 mg/day) and placebo. This intervention period lasted for 8 weeks and separated by a 4-week washout period. An iso-caloric diet was given to every individual throughout the study. Blood pressure, lipid profile, atherogenic indices and liver enzymes were measured. Pkcross procedure was performed for statistical analyses using Stata software. Cohen's d was estimated as effect size for all outcomes to measure the magnitude of the effects. RESULTS Thirty-nine participants completed the study. Capsules of N.S increased serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Cohen's d = 0.47, P = 0.009), reduced low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Cohen's d = - 0.33, P = 0.031), reduced TC/HDL-C ratio (as an atherogenic index, Cohen's d = - 0.9, P < 0.001), reduced serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (Cohen's d = 0- 0.5, P = 0.038) and reduced systolic blood pressure (Cohen's d = - 0.4, P < 0.001). There was no effect on diastolic blood pressure measures (P = 0.96). CONCLUSION The overall improvements in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors showed beneficial effects of N.S supplements among adults with obesity to prevent possible cardiovascular diseases. More studies with different designs and in other populations are suggested to clarify the exact effects of N.S as a complementary therapy for modulating CVD risk factors in individuals with overweight and obesity. Abstract
Seeds of the genus Nigella plants as folk medicine are often used to prevent and treat asthma, diarrhea, dyslipidemia, and other diseases around the world. Pharmacological researches showed that seed extract and seed oil have antibacterial, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, and hepatoprotective effects which attributed to their bioactive constituents such as alkaloids, saponins, flavones, and phenols. This paper has covered recent progresses on chemical and pharmacological researches on these plants, including their compounds and pharmacological effects. It was found that the chemical component researches were focused on the seed oil. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the profile of the whole constituents in the seeds.

The nutraceuticals market is vast, encompassing many different products with inconsistent levels of evidence available to support their use. This overview represents a Western perspective of the nutraceuticals market, with a brief comparison with that in China, as an illustration of how individual health supplements increase and decrease in popularity in regional terms. Recent changes in sales patterns, mainly taken from the US market, are summarized and a selection of five newer products, which have not been subject to extensive recent review are profiled: astaxanthin, a carotenoid found in red algae, seafood, salmon and trout, as an antioxidant; cannabidiol, a non-euphoric marijuana ingredient used as mood enhancer and for painful/inflammatory conditions; modified extracts of ginseng used in new indications including dementia and space travel; monk fruit, a non-sugar high intensity sweetener and nigella seed, a popular food ingredient and Asian medicine, which has experienced an extraordinary rise in sales recently.
