Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the composition of the dominant groups of vaginal microorganisms in healthy pregnant women and pregnant women infected with HPV using a microbiological culture-based method. The MALDI TOF MS method and 16S rRNA gene fragment sequencing were used to identify microorganisms isolated from healthy pregnant women (n=32) and pregnant women infected with HPV (n=24). It was found that vaginal secretion samples from both groups contained bacteria of 4 phyla: Bacillota, Actinomycetota, Pseudomonadota, Bacteroidota, and Ascomycota fungi. The most common microbial community in healthy pregnant women being CST I (p=0.0007), and CST V in pregnant women infected with HPV (p=0.0001). At the genus level, a total of 25 taxa were found in all samples, with Lactobacillus being the dominant genus overall. Escherichia (p<0.0001) and Prevotella (p=0.0001) concentrations were higher in HPV infected patients. When calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient for the phyla, it was found that Bacillota correlated negatively with HPV genotypes 16 and 51 (p≤0.05), but positively with HPV genotype 59 (p≤0.05), just like Actinomycetota (p≤0.05). Abstract
P-element-induced wimpy testis-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), a class of small noncoding RNAs with about 24-32 nucleotides, often interact with PIWI proteins to form a piRNA/PIWI complex that could influence spermiogenesis, transposon silencing, epigenetic regulation, etc. PIWI proteins have a highly conserved function in a variety of species and are usually expressed in germ cells. However, increasing evidence has revealed the important role of the piRNA/PIWI complex in the occurrence and prognosis of various human diseases and suggests its potential application in the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases, becoming a prominent marker for these human diseases. Recent studies have confirmed that piRNA/PIWI complexes or piRNAs are abnormally expressed in some viral infections, effecting disease progression and viral replication. In this study, we reviewed the association between the piRNA/PIWI complex and several human disease-associated viruses, including human papillomavirus, human immunodeficiency virus, human rhinovirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, respiratory syncytial virus, and herpes simplex virus type 1.

Abstract
There is very little information available about transplacental infections by the papillomavirus in ruminants. However, recent evidence has emerged of the first report of vertical infections of bovine papillomavirus (BPV) in fetuses from naturally infected, pregnant cows. This study reports the coinfection of BPV and ovine papillomavirus (OaPV) in bovine fetuses from infected pregnant cows suffering from bladder tumors caused by simultaneous, persistent viral infections. Some molecular mechanisms involving the binary complex composed of Eras and platelet-derived growth factor β receptor (PDGFβR), by which BPVs and OaPVs contribute to reproductive disorders, have been investigated. A droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) was used to detect and quantify the nucleic acids of the BPVs of the Deltapapillomavirus genus (BPV1, BPV2, BPV13, and BPV14) and OaPVs belonging to the Deltapapillomavirus (OaPV1, OaPV2, and OaPV4) and Dyokappapapillomavirus (OaPV3) genera in the placenta and fetal organs (heart, lung, liver, and kidneys) of four bovine fetuses from four pregnant cows with neoplasia of the urinary bladder. A papillomaviral evaluation was also performed on the bladder tumors and peripheral blood of these pregnant cows. In all fetal and maternal samples, the genotype distribution of BPVs and OaPVs were evaluated using both their DNA and RNA. A BPV and OaPV coinfection was seen in bladder tumors, whereas only BPV infection was found in peripheral blood. The genotype distribution of both the BPVs and OaPVs detected in placentas and fetal organs indicated a stronger concordance with the viral genotypes detected in bladder tumors rather than in peripheral blood. This suggests that the viruses found in placentas and fetuses may have originated from infected bladders. Our study highlights the likelihood of vertical infections with BPVs and OaPVs and emphasizes the importance of gaining further insights into the mechanisms and consequences of this exposure. This study warrants further research as adverse pregnancy outcomes are a major source of economic losses in cattle breeding.

Abstract
Purpose This study delves into the epidemiology of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection and its link to precancerous lesions among perimenopausal (40-59 years) and elderly (60-65 years) women in a Chinese county with a notably high incidence of cervical cancer. By uniquely focusing on these age groups in underdeveloped regions, the research aims to offer novel strategies for the management and prevention of cervical cancer. It seeks to inform targeted interventions and public health policies that could significantly benefit women at heightened risk for HPV, addressing a critical gap in current prevention efforts in economically disadvantaged communities. Methods This observational study was conducted at the Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Service Centre in Lueyang County, from September 2021 to January 2022. It assessed 2008 women aged 40-65 for HPV screening, with 342 undergoing further cytological examination. The study evaluated the prevalence of HPV infection across different age groups and risk categories. It utilized a questionnaire to collect participants' basic information, health behaviors, and other relevant data to analyze factors influencing HR-HPV infection. Statistical analyses comprised chi-square tests, trend analysis, logistic regression, and multiple imputation techniques to address missing data. Results The prevalence of HR-HPV infection among women aged 40-65 years in Lueyang County was 18.43%. Older women exhibited a higher incidence of HPV infection, abnormal ThinPrep Cytology Test (TCT) results (Shaanxi Fu'an Biotechnology Co. Ltd., Baoji City, China), and low/high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL/HSIL) (P<0.05). The most prevalent HR-HPV genotypes in the overall, perimenopausal, and elderly groups were HPV-52, -53, and -58; HPV-52, -53, and -16; and HPV-58, -52, and -53, respectively. The prevalent HR-HPV genotypes in the abnormal The Bethesda System (TBS) results were HPV-16, -52, -33, -58; -16, -52, -58; and-16, -33, and -52. HPV-16, -18, -33 prevalence increased with increasing lesion severity (P<0.05). In this study, factors affecting HR-HPV in the three age groups were found to be mainly related to sexual behavior and education level, including history of lower genital tract diseases, multiple pregnancies, contraceptive methods without tubal ligation, age at first marriage greater than 18 years, never washing the vulva after sex, abstinence from sex, education level of junior high school or above, and spouse's education level of high school or above. Conclusions These findings suggest that the elevated rate of abnormal TBS in the older age group may be attributed to the higher prevalence of persistent infection-prone HR-HPV genotypes (HPV-58, -52, and-53), multiple infections, and potent oncogenic HR-HPV genotypes (HPV-16 and -33). Additionally, the higher HR-HPV prevalence in older patients may be related to lower education attainment, reduced screening rate, and limited condom usage. Therefore, strategies targeting perimenopausal and older women should prioritize enhancing health awareness, increasing screening rates, and encouraging condom utilization.

Abstract
This study assessed the efficacy of ThinPrep cytologic test and human papillomavirus (HPV) co-test in cervical cancer screening during pregnancy. A cohort of 8,712 pregnant women from Ren Ji Hospital participated in the study. Among them, 601 (6.90%) tested positive for high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and 38 (0.44%) exhibited abnormal cytology results (ASCUS+). Following positive HR-HPV findings, 423 patients underwent colposcopy, and 114 individuals suspected of having high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion and cervical cancer (HSIL+) underwent cervical biopsy. Histological examination revealed 60 cases of normal pathology (52.63%), 35 cases of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (30.70%), 17 cases of HSIL (14.91%), and 2 cases of cervical cancer (1.75%). The incidence of HSIL+ in HPV 16/18 group was significantly higher than that in non-HPV16/18 group (10.53% vs. 6.14%, P < 0.05). Subsequent evaluation of the clinical performance of cytology alone, primary HPV screening, and co-testing for HSIL+ detection revealed that the HSIL+ detection rate was lowest with cytology alone. These findings suggest that HPV testing, either alone or combined with cytology, presents an efficient screening strategy for pregnant women, underscoring the potential for improved sensitivity in cervical cancer screening during pregnancy. The significantly higher incidence of HSIL+ in the HPV16/18 group emphasizes the importance of genotype-specific considerations.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION More and more studies have focused on the associations between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and pan-cancers. However, current evidence is largely based on retrospective studies, which are susceptible to confounding factors and do not enable the establishment of causal relationships. METHODS A bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design was employed to thoroughly evaluate the causal relationships between HPV and 12 site-specific cancers except cervical cancer. Single nucleoside polymers (SNPs) with strong evidence from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) were selected from HPV exposure datasets and used as instrumental variables (IVs) in this study. For the MR analysis results, MR-Egger's intercept P test, MR-PRESSO global test, Cochran's Q test and a leave-one-out test were applied for sensitivity analysis. Using HPVTIMER, we also performed immune infiltration analyses in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) and vulval squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) to evaluate the tumor-immune microenvironment. RESULTS Based on the evidence of MR analysis, our study conclusively identified HPV16 as a risk factor implicated in the development of bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer, while HPV18 was identified as a risk factor for prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer and breast cancer. The MR results also showed that HPV16 may be a protective factor for prostate cancer, anal cancer, lung cancer and oropharyngeal cancer, while HPV18 may be a protective factor for vaginal cancer. CONCLUSION An HPV infection may modulate the immune microenvironment and therefore has a potential inhibitory effect on the development of certain cancers. These conclusions provided new insights into the potential mechanisms of carcinogenesis and needed further research for validation.

Abstract
Background HPV infection is closely related to the occurrence of cervical cancer and has an important adverse effect on human life and health. This study used data from the NHANES 2003-2016 to investigate the relationship between PIR and HPV infection status among Americans aged 20 and older. Methods The data for this cross-sectional investigation came from the 2003-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which included 9580 women who were 20 years of age or older. The linear and nonlinear correlations between PIR and the presence of HPV infection were investigated using multiple linear regression and smooth curve fitting. The stability of the relationship across groups was examined using subgroup analysis and interaction tests. Results There were 2232 impoverished homes and 2543 rich households among the 9580 adult participants aged 20 and above. PIR (ratio of income to poverty) was found to be significantly inversely related to the presence of HPV infection [0.91 (0.89, 0.94)] after adjusting for all other covariates, and the trend persisted even after categorizing PIR into high- and low-income groups (PIR>4 and PIR<1). In addition, significant negative relationships were discovered in subgroup analyses for women aged 25 to 59 [0.90 (0.88, 0.93)], non-Hispanic whites [0.80 (0.70, 0.92)], non-diabetics [0.91 (0.88, 0.94)], and those who had ever engaged in sex [0.91 (0.89, 0.94)]. Conclusions PIR was highly and negatively correlated with the presence of HPV infection in American women aged 20 and older. The results of this study are of great significance for preventing HPV infection and improving the accuracy of HPV screening.

Abstract
A primiparous woman in her mid-30s presented at 31 weeks of gestation with a large vaginal mass obstructing the cervix, initially concerning for malignancy. Pelvic MRI confirmed a vaginal lesion located on the lateral wall, and histopathology diagnosed a giant condyloma acuminatum. The vaginal lesion was surgically resected at 34 weeks of gestation, and the patient proceeded to have a successful vaginal birth. Our case report demonstrates an unusual presentation of a rare anogenital disease and highlights a differential diagnosis for cervical and vaginal lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Women in Saudi Arabia have little knowledge of cervical cancer, human papillomavirus (HPV), and its vaccine. This study assessed the acceptance, barriers, and facilitators of HPV vaccination and its associated factors among parents of daughters in intermediate schools during the academic year September 2022-June 2023 in Tabuk City, Saudi Arabia. PURPOSE The objective of this study was to evaluate the barriers and facilitators of HPV vaccination and its associated factors among parents of daughters in intermediate schools in Tabuk City, Saudi Arabia. METHODS This was an analytical community-based cross-sectional study that targeted 947 parents of girls older than 15 in intermediate schools in Tabuk City. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data using a web-based survey. RESULTS The knowledge about HPV and its vaccine in mothers was 1.627 times higher than in fathers, mainly when employed, highly educated, aged <40 years, and earning a higher income. In addition, the Saudis' knowledge of HPV and its vaccine was 1.275 times higher than non-Saudis. The HPV vaccine acceptability among mothers was 1.259 times higher than the fathers, especially when non-employed, aged <40 years, and with higher income. The parent who knows the relationship between HPV and cervical cancer accepts the vaccine 1.794 times higher than those who ignore this relationship. On the other hand, the Saudi's acceptability of the vaccine was 0.671 times lower than non-Saudis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection (gonorrhoea) is associated with several pregnancy complications, including preterm labour, spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, miscarriage, growth retardation, and intrauterine death. OBJECTIVES We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the global and regional prevalence of gonorrhoea in pregnant women as a scientific basis for further studies. DATA SOURCES We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, and SciELO databases from inception to 10 July 2022. STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA We included cross-sectional, cohort, and case-control studies that reported the prevalence of gonorrhoea in pregnant women. In addition, we included baseline data for randomized controlled trials. PARTICIPANTS Pregnant women who were tested for gonorrhoea. METHODS Pooled prevalence estimates at 95% CIs were calculated using a random-effects meta-analysis model. We stratified countries according to WHO-defined regions and socio-economic factors. Moreover, sub-group-, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses were conducted to investigate the effects of pre-determined factors on prevalence estimates and heterogeneity. RESULTS We identified 235 studies (249 datasets) on 19 104 175 pregnant women from 71 countries. The worldwide pooled prevalence of gonorrhoea in pregnant women was estimated at 1.85% (95% CI 1.73-1.97%), with the highest rate in the African region (3.53%) (2.84-4.29%) and the lowest rate in the European region (0.52%) (0.27-0.84%). Overall, the prevalence estimates were high among low-income countries (3.03%), pregnant women with HIV (2.81%), and pregnant women <20 years old (8.06%). A significant decreasing trend in prevalence was observed over time (β = -0.0008, 95% CI -0.0012 to -0.0004, p 0.001). DISCUSSION Our findings indicate that a substantial number of pregnant women have been infected with gonorrhoea globally, which calls for immediate public health measures to reduce the potential risk of infection. The study highlights the inadequacy or lack of data for many countries, emphasizing the need to expand systematic data collection efforts at national and regional levels.

Abstract
The different human papillomavirus (HPV) strains cause warts in various regions of the body. However, considering that the status and genotype distribution of HPV infection in women in Shenyang remain unknown, herein, we investigated the epidemiological characteristics of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection in women in Shenyang, as well as the current state of HPV infection in Shenyang, to provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. From December 2018 to December 2021, 6,432 urban and rural women from the Liaoning Cancer Hospital and the Sujiatun Women and Infants’ Hospital were assessed via the Thinprep cytology test (TCT) and HR-HPV detection. Of the 5,961 women enrolled, 739 were HPV positive (12.40%) and 562 were TCT positive (9.43%). Statistical analyses identified the following HPV risk factors: high school education or lower [OR = 1.426 (1.199–1.696), p < 0.001], age at first sexual encounter ≤ 19 years [OR = 1.496 (1.008–2.220), p = 0.046], and number of sexual partners > 1 [OR = 1.382 (1.081–1.768), p = 0.010], atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) and above [OR = 10.788 (8.912–13.060), p < 0.001], non-condom-based contraception [OR = 1.437 (1.103–1.871), p = 0.007], nationalities other than Han [OR = 1.690 (1.187–2.406), p = 0.004], rural residence [OR = 1.210 (1.031–1.419), p = 0.020]. Compared to the HPV infection rate of women aged 56–65, that in women aged 35–45 [OR = 0.687 (0.549–0.860), p = 0.001] and 46–55 [OR = 0.740 (0.622–0.879), p = 0.001] decreased significantly. To conclude, risk factors of HPV infection among female patients include high school age and below, initial sexual encounter at age ≤ 19 years, number of sexual partners > 1, ASCUS and above, non-condom contraception, nationalities other than Han nationality and rural population. Collectively, this study provides insights for the improved prevention and treatment of cervical cancer.
