Abstract
A convenient method has been developed for transforming alkyl halides into the corresponding alcohols via an SN2 reaction. Treatment of an alkyl halide with the squarate dianion at high temperature produces mono-alkyl squarate, and a one-pot basic hydrolysis of the intermediate affords the alcohol in good yield.

Abstract
Noninvasive molecular imaging of the PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint is of high clinical relevance for patient stratification and therapy monitoring in cancer patients. Here we report nine small-molecule PD-L1 radiotracers with solubilizing sulfonic acids and a linker-chelator system, designed by molecular docking experiments and synthesized according to a new, convergent synthetic strategy. Binding affinities were determined both in cellular saturation and real-time binding assay (LigandTracer), revealing dissociation constants in the single digit nanomolar range. Incubation in human serum and liver microsomes proved in vitro stability of these compounds. Small animal PET/CT imaging, in mice bearing PD-L1 overexpressing and PD-L1 negative tumors, showed moderate to low uptake. All compounds were cleared primarily through the hepatobiliary excretion route and showed a long circulation time. The latter was attributed to strong blood albumin binding effects, discovered during our binding experiments. Taken together, these compounds are a promising starting point for further development of a new class of PD-L1 targeting radiotracers.

Abstract
Addition of DMSO is found to greatly accelerate the aqueous hydrolysis of organohalides to alcohols, providing a neutral, more efficient, milder and more economic process. Mechanistic studies using 18 O-DMSO and 18 O-H2 O showed that, contrary to the opinion that DMSO works as a dipolar solvent to enhance water's nucleophilicity, the accelerating effect comes from a complete oxygen transfer from DMSO to organohalides through generation of ROS+ Me2 ⋅X- salts through C-O bond formation, followed by O-S bond disassociative hydrolysis of ROS+ Me2 ⋅X- with water. This method is applicable to a wide range of organohalides and thus may have potential for practical industrial application, owing to easy recovery of DMSO from the H2 O/DMSO mixture by regular vacuum rectification.

Abstract
We report a simple and eco-friendly method for producing an amino-polystyrene supported hexaethylene glycol-bridged ionic liquid (APS-HEGBIL) based on the copolymerization of amino-styrene with 1-vinyl imidazolium ionic liquid bearing hexaethylene glycol moieties, and its characterization by several analytical techniques. The resulting APS-HEGBIL catalyst was found to be remarkably efficient at catalyzing the selective nucleophilic hydroxylation of alkyl halides to produce the corresponding alcohols in water, which acted as a solvent and a nucleophilic hydroxide source. The catalyst was easily recycled and maintained its catalytic activity and stability after ten cycles with excellent yields. The main attributes of the catalyst were that it significantly enhanced the nucleophilicity of water during reactions and promoted the rapid conversions of polar and base-sensitive alkyl halide reactants to alcohols in excellent yields. The combination of ionic liquids and polymeric materials afforded quasi-homogeneous catalysts that were recycled by simple filtration and provided environmentally benign means for conducted catalytic procedures. An amino-polystyrene supported hexaethylene glycol-bridged ionic liquid (APS-HEGBIL) was remarkably efficient at catalyzing the selective nucleophilic hydroxylation of alkyl halides to produce the corresponding alcohols in water.![]()
