MnMoO4-S nanosheets with rich oxygen vacancies for high-performance supercapacitors

The structure of materials is closely related to their electrochemical properties. MnMoO₄ materials have good stability as supercapacitors but their specific capacitance performance is not excellent. To improve electrochemical performance of MnMoO₄, this study conducts secondary hydrothermal treatment in thiourea solution on MnMoO₄ electrode material grown on nickel foam synthesized by traditional hydrothermal method. A more compact S-doped MnMoO₄ electrode material with more oxygen vacancies and higher specific capacitance was obtained. At the current density of 1 A g^-1, the specific capacitance of the composite material reached 2526.7 F g^-1, which increased by 140.9% compared with that of ordinary MnMoO₄ material. The capacitance retention rate of the composite material was 95.56% after 2000 cycles at 10 A g^-1. An asymmetric supercapacitor was fabricated using S-doped MnMoO₄ as the positive electrode, activated carbon as the negative electrode, and 6 mol L^-1 KOH solution as the electrolyte. The specific capacitance of the assembled supercapacitor was 117.50 F g^-1 at 1 A g^-1, and a high energy density of 47.16 W h kg^-1 at the power density of 849.98 W kg^-1 was recorded. This method greatly improves the specific capacitance of MnMoO₄ through simple processing, which makes it have great application potential.

Unraveling the MnMoO4 polymorphism: a comprehensive DFT investigation of α, β, and ω phases

The MnMoO₄ is an environmentally friendly semiconductor material widely employed in technological devices. This material can be obtained on three different polymorphs, and although such phases were reported decades ago, some obscurity over their structure and properties is still perceived. Thus, this work provides a comprehensive DFT investigation of the α, β, and ω phases of MnMoO_4, analyzing their crystalline structure, stability, and electronic and magnetic properties. The results show that all phases of MnMoO₄ are stable at room conditions connected by pressure application or long-time high-temperature treatment. The MnMoO₄ phases are G-type antiferromagnetic with semiconductor bandgap and have enormous potential to develop magnetic, optical, and electronic devices and photocatalytic-based processes. The results also evidence potential antiviral and antibacterial activities of the three MnMoO₄ polymorphs.

Quaternary Cu2FeSnS4/PVP/rGO Composite for Supercapacitor Applications

Electrochemical energy storage is a current research area to address energy challenges of the modern world. The Cu2FeSnS4/PVP/rGO-decorated nanocomposite using PVP as the surface ligand was explored in a simple one-step solvothermal route, for studying their electrochemical behavior by designing asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor devices. The full cell three-electrode arrangements delivered 748 C/g (62.36 mA h/g) at 5 mV/s employing CV and 328 F/g (45.55 mA h/g) at 0.5 A/g employing GCD for the Cu2FeSnS4/PVP/rGO electrode. The half-cell two-electrode device can endow with 73 W h/kg and 749 W/kg at 1 A/g energy and power density. Furthermore, two Cu2FeSnS4/PVP/rGO//AC asymmetric devices connected in series for illuminating a commercial red LED more than 1 min were explored. This work focuses the potential use of transition-metal chalcogenide composite and introduces a new material for designing high-performance supercapacitor applications.
