Low-Triggering-Potential and Narrow-Potential-Window Electrochemiluminescence of Silver Nanoclusters for Gene Assay

A low-triggering potential and a narrow-potential window are anticipated to decrease the electrochemical interference and cross talk of electrochemiluminescence (ECL). Herein, by exploiting the low oxidative potential (0.82 V vs Ag/AgCl) of dihydrolipoic acid-capped sliver nanoclusters (DHLA-AgNCs), a coreactant ECL system of DHLA-AgNCs/hydrazine (N2H4) is proposed to achieve efficient and oxidative-reduction ECL with a low-triggering potential of 0.82 V (vs Ag/AgCl) and a narrow-potential window of 0.22 V. The low-triggering-potential and narrow-potential-window nature of ECL can be primarily preserved upon labeling DHLA-AgNCs to probe DNA and immobilizing DHLA-AgNCs onto the Au surface via sandwiched hybridization, which eventually enables a selective ECL strategy for the gene assay at +0.82 V. This gene assay strategy can sensitively determine the gene of human papillomavirus from 10 to 1000 pM with a low limit of detection of 5 pM (S/N = 3) and would open a way to improve the applied ECL bioassay.

MOF-Enhanced Chiral ECL Recognition System: Dual-Function in Phenylalanine Enantiomer Detection and Coreaction Acceleration

The accurate discernment and separation of chiral isomers with high precision remain a significant challenge in various industries and biological fields. In this investigation, an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) chiral recognition platform was devised to ascertain the presence of phenylalanine (Phe). Notably, a homochiral [Ni2(l-asp)2(bipy)] (Ni-LAB) was established as a dual-function coreactant accelerator and chiral recognition substrate. Ni-LAB facilitates the reaction between the coreactant (K2S2O8) and the luminescent entity 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracar-boxylic-l-cysteine (PTCA-cys), thereby enhancing the ECL luminescence efficiency and improving the sensitivity of the chiral sensor. The chiral recognition potential of Ni-LAB was assessed to differentiate between Phe chiral isomers, and the underlying mechanism was comprehensively elucidated. This system exhibited remarkable proficiency in detecting Phe enantiomers and precisely differentiating a single Phe enantiomer within a mixture, showcasing exceptional levels of selectivity, stability, and reproducibility. This study paves the way for the development of advanced chiral recognition systems, potentially revolutionizing the field of chiral sensing and discrimination.

Guest Molecular Assembly Strategy in Covalent Organic Frameworks for Electrochemiluminescence Sensing of Uranyl

The application of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is promising in environmental monitoring. Developing an emerging design strategy to expand the class of COF-based ECL luminophores is highly desirable. Here, a COF-based host-guest system was constructed through guest molecular assembly to deal with nuclear contamination analysis. The efficient charge transport network was formed by inserting an electron-withdrawing guest tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) into the open space of the COF host (TP-TBDA; TP = 2,4,6-trihydroxy-1,3,5-benzenetricarbaldehyde and TBDA = 2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzene-1,4-diamine) with an electron-donating property; the construction of the COF-based host-guest system (TP-TBDA@TCNQ) triggered the ECL emission of non-emitting TP-TBDA. Furthermore, the dense active sites in TP-TBDA were utilized to capture the target substance UO₂²⁺. The presence of UO₂²⁺ broke the charge-transfer effect in TP-TBDA@TCNQ, resulting in the weakening of the ECL signal, thus the established ECL system integrating the low detection limit with high selectivity monitors UO₂²⁺. This COF-based host-guest system provides a novel material platform for constructing late-model ECL luminophores and creates an opportunity for the vigorous ECL technology.
