Impact of Reaction Conditions on the Structures of Nickel(II) Complexes Based on 3-(4-Carboxyphenyl)propionic Acid

A series of entangled MOFs constructed from flexible dipyridyl piperazine and rigid dicarboxylate: interpenetration, self-penetration, and polycatenation

By employing a flexible dipyridyl piperazine and a rigid linear dicarboxylate, four MOFs with different entangled structures involving a 3D inclined polycatenane and a 3D self-penetrated framework incorporating cyclic [3]catenane were isolated.

Structural and Electrochemical Studies of Cobalt(II) and Nickel(II) Coordination Polymers with 6-Oxonicotinate and 4,4′-Bipyridine

The 6-oxonicotinate (6-Onic) salts of a one-dimensional cationic cobalt(II) or nickel(II) coordination polymers with 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy), namely {[Co(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)4](6-Onic)2·2H2O}n (1) and {[Ni(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)4](6-Onic)2·2H2O}n (2), were prepared hydrothermally by reactions of cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate or nickel(II) nitrate hexahydrate, respectively, 6-hydroxynicotinic acid and 4,4′-bipyridine in a mixture of ethanol and water. In the hydrogen-bonded frameworks of 1 and 2, the one-dimensional polymeric chains of {[M(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)4]2+}n (M = Co, Ni), the 6-oxonicotinate anions and the lattice water molecules were assembled via strong intermolecular O–H···O and N–H···O hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions, leading to the formation of the representative hydrogen-bond ring motifs: trimeric R23(10) motif, the centrosymmetric tetrameric R24(8) and R24(12) motifs and the pentameric R45(12) motif. The isostructural coordination polymers 1 and 2 exhibited a different electrochemical behavior, as observed by cyclic voltammetry, which can be attributed to the nature of the metal ions (cobalt(II) vs. nickel(II)).

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of di-chlorido-(methanol-κO)bis-(2-methyl-pyridine-κN)copper(II)

In the title complex, [CuCl2(C6H7N)2(CH3OH)], the copper atom is five-coordinated by two nitro-gen atoms of 2-methyl-pyridine ligands, two chloro ligands and an oxygen atom of the methanol mol-ecule, being in a tetra-gonal-pyramidal environment with N and Cl atoms forming the basal plane. In the crystal, complex mol-ecules related by the twofold rotation axis are joined into dimeric units by pairs of O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. These dimeric units are assembled through C-H⋯Cl inter-actions into layers parallel to (001).

Synthesis and crystal structure of a 6-chloro-nicotinate salt of a one-dimensional cationic nickel(II) coordination polymer with 4,4'-bi-pyridine

A 6-chloro-nicotinate (6-Clnic) salt of a one-dimensional cationic nickel(II) coordination polymer with 4,4'-bi-pyridine (4,4'-bpy), namely, catena-poly[[[tetra-aqua-nickel(II)]-μ-4,4'-bi-pyridine-κ2 N:N'] bis-(6-chloro-nicotinate) tetra-hydrate], {[Ni(C10H8N2)(H2O)4](C6H3ClNO2)2·4H2O} n or {[Ni(4,4'-bpy)(H2O)4](6-Clnic)2·4H2O} n , (1), was prepared by the reaction of nickel(II) sulfate hepta-hydrate, 6-chloro-nicotinic acid and 4,4'-bi-pyridine in a mixture of water and ethanol. The mol-ecular structure of 1 comprises a one-dimensional polymeric {[Ni(4,4'-bpy)(H2O)4]2+} n cation, two 6-chloro-nicotinate anions and four water mol-ecules of crystallization per repeating polymeric unit. The nickel(II) ion in the polymeric cation is octa-hedrally coordinated by four water mol-ecule O atoms and by two 4,4'-bi-pyridine N atoms in the trans position. The 4,4'-bi-pyridine ligands act as bridges and, thus, connect the symmetry-related nickel(II) ions into an infinite one-dimensional polymeric chain extending along the b-axis direction. In the extended structure of 1, the polymeric chains of {[Ni(4,4'-bpy)(H2O)4]2+} n , the 6-chloro-nicotinate anions and the water mol-ecules of crystallization are assembled into an infinite three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network via strong O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of the representative hydrogen-bonded ring motifs: tetra-meric R 2 4(8) and R 4 4(10) loops, a dimeric R 2 2(8) loop and a penta-meric R 4 5(16) loop.
