Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with intestinal-type sinonasal adenocarcinoma (ITAC) have an unfavorable prognosis, and new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are needed to improve clinical management. METHODS Next-generation sequencing-based miRNome analysis was performed on 43 ITAC patients who underwent surgical resection, and microRNA (miRNA) data were obtained from 35 cases. Four miRNAs were identified, and their expression levels were detected by reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction and related to the relevant patient outcome. Overall survival and disease-free survival rates were evaluated through the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test, and multivariate analysis was performed by means of Cox proportional hazard analysis. RESULTS High levels of miR-205 and miR-34c/miR-449 cluster expression were associated with an increased recurrence risk and, therefore, a worse prognosis. Multivariate analysis confirmed that miR-205 and miR-449 were significant prognostic predictors. CONCLUSIONS A high expression of miR-205 and miR-449 is independent predictors of poor survival for ITAC patients.

Abstract
Primary mucosal melanomas (PMMs) of the head and neck are uncommon malignancies that arise mainly in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, followed by the oral cavity. The mainstay of treatment is radical surgical resection followed by adjuvant radiotherapy in selected patients with high-risk features. Multimodality therapy has not been well studied and is not standardized. Adjuvant radiotherapy seems to improve locoregional control but does not improve overall survival (OS). Elective neck dissection is advocated in patients with oral PMM. Systemic therapy should be considered only for patients with metastatic or unresectable locoregional disease. Despite improvements in the field of surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy, patients with PMM still face a very unfavorable prognosis (5-year disease-free survival [DFS] <20%) with high rates of locoregional recurrence and distant metastasis. The present review aims to summarize the current state of knowledge on the molecular biology, pathological diagnosis, and management of this disease.

Abstract
Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma is a highly aggressive lesion arising in the superior nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Differential diagnosis is wide because a range of similar lesions can present at this site. There is increasing evidence that sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma is a surface (Schneiderian) epithelial-derived malignancy, with or without concurrent neuroendocrine differentiation. Prognosis is poor; recurrence with metastasis to lymph nodes and distant sites is frequent. A combination of radical surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy appears to provide the best chance of survival.

Abstract
AIMS To describe seven cases of sinonasal seromucinous hamartoma. MATERIALS AND RESULTS The clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features of seven seromucinous hamartomas were analysed. There were four men and three women. Six lesions involved the posterior nasal septum and one the lateral wall. Size ranged from 6 to 40 mm. Four patients had no recurrences. One patient had local recurrences 24 and 60 months after diagnosis. The masses were covered by respiratory epithelium. Their stroma was oedematous to fibrous and contained invaginated respiratory epithelium forming glands and cysts, cysts with cuboidal to flat epithelium, and small serous glands, ducts and tubules with lobular and irregular haphazard patterns. One case had numerous glands surrounded by hyalinized basement membrane with features of respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH). One case had focal REAH-like changes. Both respiratory and serous components were positive for cytokeratin (CK) 7 and CK19. The serous component lacked myoepithelial cells when stained for CK14, p63, calponin and muscle-specific antigen in five cases. CONCLUSIONS Seromucinous hamartomas show a broader histopathological appearance than previously reported. The serous proliferation in these lesions lacks myoepithelial cells. The presence of occasional REAH-like features and common location in the posterior nasal septum suggest a spectrum from pure seromucinous hamartoma to REAH.
