Abstract
Background/Objectives: Vaccination is a strategy in pig farming for the control of several pathogens, but commercial vaccines may have detrimental side effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of commercial vaccines on the control of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhp), and Lawsonia intracellularis (L. intracellularis) and their potential side effects on welfare, behavior, acute inflammation biomarkers (C-reactive protein and haptoglobin), and the performance of piglets during the nursery phase. Methods: A total of 240 piglets, both female and castrated males, with an average weight of 6.3 ± 0.9 kg were subjected to four treatments: T1-FLEXcombo® (Ingelvac®CircoFLEX and Ingelvac®MycoFLEX) + Enterisol® Ileitis; T2-FLEXCombo® + Porcilis® Ileitis; T3-Porcilis® PCV M HYO + Porcilis® Ileitis; and T4-FLEXCombo® + 0.9% saline solution. This study measured therapeutic interventions, body condition score, behavioral changes, rectal temperature, and inflammation biomarkers post-vaccination. Results: The T3 group required more therapeutic interventions and exhibited a 23.1% higher incidence of thin body condition (p < 0.05) and 10 times more animals with depressed behavior than T1 (p < 0.05). The piglets vaccinated for L. intracellularis (T2 and T3) had rectal temperatures exceeding 39.7 °C post-vaccination, significantly higher than in T1 (p < 0.05). The T1 animals showed five times more positive behavior traits 24 h after vaccination (p < 0.05). Touch response was 29% lower in the T2 and T3 groups, and the lying down behavior was higher in these groups compared to T1. Additionally, 41.7% of the T3 animals exhibited a sitting posture 48 h after vaccination. Higher serum C-reactive protein and haptoglobin levels were observed in T3 (p < 0.05) at 24 and 48 h post-vaccination. Feed intake was higher in T1 compared to T3 between 29 and 35 days of age. It is important to note that this study did not measure immune responses to the pathogens and did not include challenge tests, and therefore, it does not assess which vaccine is superior in pathogen control. Conclusions: The vaccine programs resulted in similar zootechnical performance. However, T1, T2, and T4 showed better effects on piglet welfare and behavior compared to T3.

Abstract
Bats serve as reservoirs for many emerging viruses. Cressdnaviruses can infect a wide range of animals, including agricultural species, such as pigs, in which porcine circoviruses cause severe gastroenteritis. New cressdnaviruses have also attracted considerable attention recently, due to their involvement with infectious diseases. However, little is known about their host range and many cressdnaviruses remain poorly characterized. We identified and characterized 11 contigs consisting of previously unknown cressdnaviruses from a rectal swab sample of a Cynopterus bat collected in Yunnan Province, China, in 2011. Full genomes of two cressdnaviruses (OQ267680, 2069 nt; OQ351951, 2382 nt), and a nearly complete genome for a third (OQ267683, 2361 nt) were obtained. Phylogenetic analyses and the characteristics of these viral genomes suggest a high degree of ssDNA virus diversity. These results shed light on cressdnavirus diversity and the probable role of Cynopterus bats as their hosts.

Synergistic pathogenicity by coinfection and sequential infection with JXA1-like HP-PRRSV and PCV2d in PCV2 antibody-positive post-weaned pigs. Microb Pathog 2022; 173:105810. Abstract
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and Porcine circovirus (PCV) are two important pathogens, which caused respiratory disease in pigs. PRRSV and PCV2 had caused great economic losses to the pig industry. Pigs coinfection with PCV2 and PRRSV were common in the clinic, PCV2 antibodies can be detected in most of the pigs. PCV2d and HP-PRRSV(JXA1-like) were two major viruses circulating in the pigs in China. In this study, HP-PRRSV (JXA1-like) and PCV2d were used to coinfect and (or) sequential infect 5-week-old weaned PCV2-antibody positive pigs and the clinical indications, pathological, virus load, and specific antibodies of the challenged post-weaned piglets were evaluated. Thirty 5-week-old post-weaned pigs were divided into six groups infected with PBS, PCV2, PRRSV, PCV2-PRRSV, PRRSV-PCV2, and Co-PRRSV-PCV2 according to the PCV2 specific antibodies. Pigs infected with PRRSV can experience diarrhea, increased body temperature, weight loss, and even death. The pigs in PRRSV and PRRSV-PCV2 infected groups showed severe clinical symptoms, high mortality, and low average daily gain. The main pathological changes were widening of the lung interstitium, lung adhesion, and so on. The PRRSV-PCV2-infected group showed high levels of TNF-α and IL-2. In conclusion, PRRSV and PRRSV-PCV2 sequential infected pigs showed most pathogenic signs, and PCV2-PRRSV sequential infected pigs showed less pathogenicity than pigs of PCV2 and PRRSV coinfection and PRRSV monoinfection from day 10-14, partially suppressing the cytokine storm produced by PRRSV.

Abstract
Replication-associated protein (Rep)-encoding single-stranded DNA (CRESS DNA) viruses are a diverse group of viruses, and their persistence in the environment has been studied for over a decade. However, the persistence of CRESS DNA viruses in herds of domestic animals has, in some cases, serious economic consequence. In this study, we describe the diversity of CRESS DNA viruses identified during the metagenomics analysis of fecal samples collected from a single swine herd with apparently healthy animals. A total of nine genome sequences were assembled and classified into two different groups (CRESSV1 and CRESSV2) of the Cirlivirales order (Cressdnaviricota phylum). The novel CRESS DNA viral sequences shared 85.8–96.8% and 38.1–94.3% amino acid sequence identities for the Rep and putative capsid protein sequences compared to their respective counterparts with extant GenBank record. Data presented here show evidence for simultaneous infection of swine herds with multiple novel CRESS DNA viruses, including po-circo-like viruses and fur seal feces-associated circular DNA viruses. Given that viral genomes with similar sequence and structure have been detected in swine fecal viromes from independent studies, investigation of the association between presence of CRESS DNA viruses and swine health conditions seems to be justified.

Abstract
Streptococcus suis is one of the most important bacterial swine pathogens affecting post-weaned piglets, causing mainly meningitis, arthritis and sudden death. It not only results in severe economic losses but also raises concerns over animal welfare and antimicrobial resistance and remains an important zoonotic agent in some countries. The definition and diagnosis of S. suis-associated diseases can be complex. Should S. suis be considered a primary or secondary pathogen? The situation is further complicated when referring to respiratory disease, since the pathogen has historically been considered as a secondary pathogen within the porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). Is S. suis a respiratory or strictly systemic pathogen? S. suis is a normal inhabitant of the upper respiratory tract, and the presence of potentially virulent strains alone does not guarantee the appearance of clinical signs. Within this unclear context, it has been largely proposed that co-infection with some viral and bacterial pathogens can significantly influence the severity of S. suis-associated diseases and may be the key to understanding how the infection behaves in the field. In this review, we critically addressed studies reporting an epidemiological link (mixed infections or presence of more than one pathogen at the same time), as well as in vitro and in vivo studies of co-infection of S. suis with other pathogens and discussed their limitations and possibilities for improvement and proposed recommendations for future studies.
