Unusual anomaly complicating abdominal aortic aneurysm repair: anterior inferior vena cava

This case illustrates an unusual anomaly of the great veins. To our knowledge, these are the first published photographs of the vena cava traversing anterior to the distal aorta. This anatomic variant caused minor technical problems during open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

Renal cell carcinoma extending into left side of double inferior vena cava

A case of renal cell carcinoma extending into the left side of a double inferior vena cava is presented. En bloc excision of the left inferior vena cava and left kidney was performed without complications. Recognition of various venous anomalies, including double inferior vena cava, is important in the evaluation and surgical treatment of retroperitoneal disease.
