Abstract
A highly efficient and selective method based on core-shell molecularly imprinted polymers (MIL@MIP) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed and firstly used for the trace analysis of tribenuron-methyl (TBM) in complicated matrices. The MIL@MIP was prepared by surface molecular-imprinting technique, specially using MIL-101 as core, TBM as template molecule, methacrylic acid (MAA) as functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as cross-linker, and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. The resulting MIL@MIP showed high affinity, recognition specificity, fast mass transfer rate, and efficient adsorption performance towards TBM with the adsorption capacity reaching up to 3.217 mg/g. It also showed high cross-selectivity for TBM among its six kinds of chemical structure analogues. Furthermore, using the MIL@MIP as solid-phase extraction (SPE) materials, the recoveries of TBM determined by HPLC were 84.6-92.3%, 93.3-106.7%, and 88.9-93.3% in the spiked river water, soil, and soybean samples, respectively, with the limit of detection of 0.3 ng/L, 1.5 ng/kg, and 1.5 ng/kg, accordingly. It was proved that the developed HPLC-MISPE method was fast, accurate, and sensitive for detecting the trace TBM in river water, soil, and soybean samples.

Abstract
Sulfonylurea herbicides are widely used at lower dosage for controlling broad-leaf weeds and some grasses in cereals and economic crops. It is important to develop a highly efficient and selective pretreatment method for analyzing sulfonylurea herbicide residues in environments and samples from agricultural products based on magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). The MIPs were prepared by a surface molecular imprinting technique especially using the vinyl-modified Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticle as the supporting matrix, bensulfuron-methyl (BSM) as the template molecule, methacrylic acid (MAA) as a functional monomer, trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) as a cross-linker, and azodiisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. The MIPs show high affinity, recognition specificity, fast mass transfer rate, and efficient adsorption performance toward BSM with the adsorption capacity reaching up to 37.32 mg g(-1). Furthermore, the MIPs also showed cross-selectivity for herbicides triasulfuron (TS), prosulfuron (PS), and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl (PSE). The MIP solid phase extraction (SPE) column was easier to operate, regenerate, and retrieve compared to those of C18 SPE column. The developed method showed highly selective separation and enrichment of sulfonylurea herbicide residues, which enable its application in the pretreatment of multisulfonylurea herbicide residues.

Abstract
A capillary electrophoresis method to determine four sulfonylureas in grain samples was developed using 10mM of 1-butyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (bminBF4) as electrophoretic buffer solution. 2mgL(-1) of Surfactant Coated-Single Wall-Carbon Nanotubes (SC-SWCNTs) was added to the buffer solution to improve the resolution. In this way, the separation of nicosulfuron, ethoxysulfuron, sulfometuron methyl and chlorsulfuron was carried out in 16min without using organic solvents. A clean up-preconcentration procedure was done prior to inject the sample into the CE instrument, in order to achieve the established maximum residue limits (MRLs). So, the detection limits (LODs) for each analytes were between 16.8 and 26.6μgkg(-1). The relative standard deviations (RSDs) were in the range 1.9-6.7%. A recovery study using the so-called matrix matched calibration demonstrates that no matrix interferences were found throughout the determination. The recovery percentages were ranged between 80% and 113%.

Abstract
A new and efficient analytic methodology based on cloud point extraction (CPE) was developed for determination of pesticide residues of metsulfuron-methyl (MSM), chlorsulfuron (CS), and bensulfuron-methyl (BSM) in water, soil, and rice grain by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Multiple experimental conditions that affected CPE efficiency-including surfactant type and concentration, equilibration temperature and duration, ionic strength, and solution pH were identified. CPE conditions were optimized as follows: 1.5% Triton X-114 (w/v), 12% Na(2)SO(4) (w/v) solution (pH 2.0), and heat-assisted at 50 °C for 15 min. The calibration curves for all analytes were linear, ranging from 0.05 to 4.0 mg L(-1), with the correlation coefficients >0.9995 by HPLC-ultraviolet detector and were linear, ranging from 0.004 to 2.0 mg L(-1), with correlation coefficients >0.9983 by CPE-HPLC. The average recoveries at the three spiked levels using CPE ranged from 86.0% to 94.5% for water samples with relative SDs (RSDs) of 0.4% to approximately 7.8%; from 85.6% to 94.8% for soil samples with RSDs of 1.2% to approximately 9.5%; and from 81.9% to 91.3% for rice samples with RSDs of 1.7% to approximately 5.8%. The proposed CPE-HPLC method can be successfully used to analyze MSM, CS, and BSM residues from contaminated water, soil, and rice grain samples.

Abstract
Sulfonylurea herbicides are widely used in crop production on the Canadian prairies and a portion of these herbicides applied to cropland are inevitably lost to surrounding aquatic ecosystems. Little is known regarding the presence of sulfonylurea herbicides in wetlands located amongst cropland. This paper describes a new analytical method for the extraction and the determination of seven sulfonylurea herbicides (thifensulfuron-methyl, tribenuron-methyl, ethametsulfuron-methyl, metsulfuron-methyl, rimsulfuron, nicosulfuron and sulfosulfuron) in wetland sediment. The method provided > 85% analyte recovery from fortified sediment for six of the seven sulfonylurea herbicides with a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 1.0 microg kg(-1). Tribenuron-methyl had significantly lower recovery compared to the other six sulfonylurea herbicides (LOQ = 2 microg kg(-1)). Mean recovery standard deviations were < 10%. This methodology was used to quantify sulfonylurea herbicide residues in sediment samples collected from prairie wetlands situated within the agricultural landscape of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada. This is the first-known detection of sulfonylurea herbicide residues in prairie wetland sediments. Ethametsulfuron-methyl, sulfosulfuron and metsulfuron-methyl, the three most environmentally persistent of the seven sulfonylurea herbicides monitored in the surveillance component of this study, were most frequently detected in wetland sediment with mean concentrations ranging from 1.2 to 10 microg kg(-1).

Abstract
We have developed a method for measuring 17 sulfonylurea (SU) herbicides in human urine. Urine samples were extracted using solid phase extraction (SPE), pre-concentrated, and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry using turboionspray atmospheric pressure ionization. Carbon 13-labeled ethametsulfuron methyl was used as an internal standard. Chromatographic retention times were under 7 minutes. Total throughput was estimated as >100 samples per day. Because only one labeled internal standard was available for the analysis, we were forced to reconsider and restructure the validation process to include stringent stability tests and analyses of urine matrices of differing compositions. We describe our restructured validation process and the critical evaluation it provides for the method developed. The limits of detection (LOD) ranged from 0.05 microg/L to 0.10 microg/L with an average LOD of 0.06 microg/L. Average total relative standard deviations were 17%, 12% and 8% at 0.1 microg/L, 3.0 microg/L and 10 microg/L, respectively. Average extraction efficiencies of the SPE cartridges were 87% and 86% at 2.5 microg/L and 25 microg/L, respectively. Chemical degradation in acetonitrile and urine was monitored over 250 days. Estimated days for 10% and 50% degradation in urine and acetonitrile ranged from 0.7 days to >318 days. The influence of matrix effects on precision and accuracy was also explored.

Abstract
Synthetic pesticides are important chemicals since they are widely used to control many types of weeds, insects, and other pests in a wide variety of agricultural and nonagricultural settings. This review article is aimed at describing the recent progress made in capillary electrophoresis (CE) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC) of pesticides and metabolites. The various electrophoretic systems and detection schemes that were introduced during the period extending from the second half of 1999 to the first half of 2001 for the CE and CEC of pesticides are discussed. Also included in this review article are the various approaches for trace enrichment that are involved in the analysis of dilute pesticide samples.
