Abstract
Candida lusitaniae is a vaginal commensal. Cases of vaginitis, vulvovaginitis and recurrent vulvovaginitis caused by this yeast are very rare. In the oral cavity, C. lusitaniae causes stomatitis in immunocompromised patients. We describe a case of stomatitis and angular cheilitis caused by C. lusitaniae in a female patient with type 2 diabetes. The infection was most likely transmitted following genital-oral intercourse with the patient's girlfriend, who was affected by C. lusitaniae vulvovaginitis.

Abstract
Coccidiomycosis is a regional disease with global importance, with both an expanding endemic area and population, as well as increasing travel. Although unusual, it should be considered in patients with a travel history to endemic areas, even when immunocompetent and outside the usual incubation period. We present a case of isolated ankle septic arthritis which required an aggressive multidisciplinary surgical approach as well as antibiotic therapy.

Abstract
The petal blight disease of alpine Rhododendron severely impacts the ornamental and economic values of Rhododendron. Plant secondary metabolites play a crucial role in resisting pathogenic fungi, yet research on metabolites in alpine Rhododendron petals that confer resistance to pathogenic fungi is limited. In the present study, the secondary metabolites in Rhododendron delavayi, R. agastum, and R. irroratum petals with anti-pathogenic activity were screened through disease index analysis, metabolomic detection, the mycelial growth rate, and metabolite spraying experiments. Disease index analysis revealed that R. delavayi petals exhibited the strongest disease resistance, while R. agastum showed the weakest, both under natural and experimental conditions. UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS analysis identified 355 and 274 putative metabolites in positive and negative ion modes, respectively. The further antifungal analysis of differentially accumulated baicalein, diosmetin, and naringenin showed their half-inhibitory concentrations (IC50) against Neopestalotiopsis clavispora to be 5000 mg/L, 5000 mg/L, and 1000 mg/L, respectively. Spraying exogenous baicalein, diosmetin, and naringenin significantly alleviated petal blight disease caused by N. clavispora infection in alpine Rhododendron petals, with the inhibition rates exceeding 64%. This study suggests that the screened baicalein, diosmetin, and naringenin, particularly naringenin, can be recommended as inhibitory agents for preventing and controlling petal blight disease in alpine Rhododendron.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Complete delineation of the HIV-1 life cycle has resulted in the development of several antiretroviral drugs. Twenty-five therapeutic agents belonging to five different classes are currently available for the treatment of HIV-1 infections. Advent of triple combination antiretroviral therapy has significantly lowered the mortality rate in HIV patients. However, fungal infections still represent major opportunistic diseases in immunocompromised patients worldwide. AREAS COVERED Antiretroviral drugs that target enzymes and/or proteins indispensable for viral replication are discussed in this article. Fungal infections, causative organisms, epidemiology and preferred treatment modalities are also outlined. Finally, observed/predicted drug-drug interactions between antiretrovirals and antifungals are summarized along with clinical recommendations. EXPERT OPINION Concomitant use of amphotericin B and tenofovir must be closely monitored for renal functioning. Due to relatively weak interactive potential with the CYP450 system, fluconazole is the preferred antifungal drug. High itraconazole doses (> 200 mg/day) are not advised in patients receiving booster protease inhibitor (PI) regimen. Posaconazole is contraindicated in combination with either efavirenz or fosamprenavir. Moreover, voriconazole is contraindicated with high-dose ritonavir-boosted PI. Echinocandins may aid in overcoming the limitations of existing antifungal therapy. An increasing number of documented or predicted drug-drug interactions and therapeutic drug monitoring may aid in the management of HIV-associated opportunistic fungal infections.

Abstract
Human osteogenic sarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor. Despite of the success of frontline therapy, about 40% of patients have disease progression and further therapy is palliative and toxic. In this study, we developed a novel quinazoline HMJ-30 to investigate the cell growth inhibition and apoptotic responses in U-2 OS human osteogenic sarcoma cells. Our results demonstrated that HMJ-30 significantly reduced cell viabilities of U-2 OS, HOS, and 143B cells in a dose-dependent manner, but it exhibited low cytotoxicity in normal hFOB cells. HMJ-30 induced DNA damage and apoptosis in U-2 OS cells as revealed by morphologic changes, comet assay and DAPI staining. Immuno-staining, colorimetric assays, and Western blotting analyses indicated that activities of caspase-8, caspase-9, and caspase-3 and the levels of Bcl-2 family-related proteins (Bcl-2, Mcl-1, Bax, BAD, and t-Bid) were altered in HMJ-30-treated U-2 OS cells. Pretreatment of cells with caspase-8, -9, and -3 specific inhibitors significantly reduced the cell growth inhibition. HMJ-30-induced apoptosis was mediated through both death-receptor and mitochondria-dependent apoptotic pathways in U-2 OS cells. HMJ-30 induced early phosphorylation of p53(Ser18) was through the activation of ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) in U-2 OS cells. The cell growth inhibition by HMJ-30 was substantially attenuated either by the pre-incubation of U-2 OS cells with N-acetylcysteine (NAC, an antioxidant) and caffeine (an ATM kinase inhibitor) or by p53 knockdown via RNAi. In conclusion, ROS dependent-ATM/p53 signaling pathway is involved in HMJ-30-induced apoptosis in U-2 OS cells.

Abstract
We designed the 6-fluoro-2-(3-fluorophenyl)-4-substituted anilinoquinazoline derivatives as less toxic anti-cancer candidates. Our result demonstrated that LJJ-10 has greater cytotoxicity than that of the other compounds in human osteogenic sarcoma U-2 OS cells. LJJ-10-induced apoptosis was associated with enhancing ROS generation, DNA damage, and an increase of the protein levels of Fas, FasL, FADD, caspase-8, cytochrome c, Apaf-1, AIF, Endo G, caspase-9 and caspase-3 in U-2 OS cells. LJJ-10-triggered growth inhibition was significantly attenuated by N-acetylcysteine, cyclosporine A, anti-FasL monoclonal antibody, and caspase-8, -9 and -3 specific inhibitors in U-2 OS cells. We suggest that LJJ-10-induced apoptotic cell death in U-2 OS cells through death receptor- and mitochondria-dependent apoptotic signaling pathways.

Abstract
Invasive fungal infections have evolved into significant causes of morbidity and mortality in premature infants, immunocompromised children, and patients receiving immunosuppressive agents. Since the discovery in 1955, amphotericin B has been the cornerstone of antifungal treatment. The past 10 years, however, have witnessed a major expansion in the antifungal armamentarium through the development of less toxic formulations of Amphotericin B, the introduction of improved triazoles, and the advent of the echinocandin lipopeptides. In this article we discuss the Lipid-based amphotericin B, Voriconazole (a new azole), and Caspofungin (an echinocandin).
