Abstract
Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is the most commonly used phthalate and is ubiquitous in surface water. Based on its well-established toxicological profile, many countries and regions have adopted specific environmental quality standard (EQS) for DEHP. In China, the EQS value for DEHP is 8 μg/L. However, information on isomers structurally similar to DEHP is limited. Among the isomers of DEHP, di-isooctyl phthalate (DIOP) and di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) have received limited attention. The goal of this paper was to study effects and toxic potencies of DEHP, DIOP, and DnOP to individuals and predict effects on populations of female Daphnia magna (cladoceran crustacea) in media containing environmentally relevant concentrations of single PAEs for three consecutive generations (21 days for every generation). Exposure to all three PAEs resulted in reduced survival and reproduction and cause collapse of populations at the highest concentrations. DnOP was the most potent for causing adverse effects followed by DIOP, while DEHP was the least potent. 8 μg DnOP/L were found to reduce the population size by 37 % in the F2 generation. These findings demonstrate that PAE isomers other than DEHP can cause adverse effects.

Abstract
Phthalates are mainly used as plasticizers in polyvinyl chloride (PVC). However, prolonged exposure to phthalates poses considerable risks to human health. Consequently, the utilization of phthalates in consumer products is subject to regulations, with a defined threshold of 0.1 %. In this study, we developed an accurate and simultaneous method for determination of 11 representative phthalates and a non-phthalate plasticizer (di(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate, DEHT) in PVC as a higher-order reference method. Homogeneously prepared PVC samples, each containing approximately 0.1 % of the target plasticizer compounds, were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) with deuterium-labeled phthalates and DEHT. The developed method could effectively separate and quantify all target plasticizers without interference with each other and potential overlap between the isomeric forms of phthalates, di-isodecyl phthalate, and di-isononyl phthalate. The developed method has high-order metrological quality, exhibiting exceptional selectivity, accuracy, repeatability (≤ 2.17 %), reproducibility (≤ 2.16 %), and relative expanded uncertainty (≤ 5.6 %). This analytical method is thus suitable for accurately assessing the target plasticizer levels in PVC products for ensuring compliance with the established 0.1 % threshold. This method was successfully applied to quantify twelve distinct plasticizers in PVC products obtained from the Korean market, validating its effectiveness and reliability in real-world scenarios.

Abstract
Phthalate acid esters (PAEs) are extensively applied in plastic and plastic products, and have caused potential hazards on human and animal health. In this study, a highly sensitive method was proposed for trace detection of selected PAEs in water by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, after solid-phase extraction (SPE) using octyl (C8)-modified magnetic graphene oxide (MGO-C8) as the adsorbent followed by dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME). The prepared MGO-C8 was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The recoveries of the PAEs using MGO-C8 as the adsorbent were found to be significantly higher those obtained by MGO. The influences of solution pH, adsorption and desorption time, eluent and extractant, and salt addition on the extraction efficiency of PAEs were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, limits of detection (LODs) of 0.5-1.0 ng L-1 for PAEs, and related standard deviations (RSDs) of 4.8-7.5% were obtained. The proposed method was utilized in the detection of trace PAEs in real environmental water samples, with spiked recoveries of 89.5-112.3%, 91.5-105.0% and 98.0-110.0% for DBP, DEHP and DNOP, respectively.

Abstract
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a high production volume industrial chemical to which there is widespread human oral exposure. Guideline studies used to set regulatory limits detected adverse effects only at doses well above human exposures and established a no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of 5 mg/kg body weight (bw)/day. However, many reported animal studies link BPA to potentially adverse effects on multiple organ systems at doses below the NOAEL. The primary goals of the subchronic study reported here were to identify adverse effects induced by orally (gavage) administered BPA below the NOAEL, to characterize the dose response for such effects and to determine doses for a subsequent chronic study. Sprague Dawley rat dams were dosed daily from gestation day 6 until the start of labor, and their pups were directly dosed from day 1 after birth to termination. The primary focus was on seven equally spaced BPA doses (2.5-2700 μg/kg bw/day). Also included were a naïve control, two doses of ethinyl estradiol (EE2) to demonstrate the estrogen responsiveness of the animal model, and two high BPA doses (100,000 and 300,000 μg/kg bw/day) expected from guideline studies to produce adverse effects. Clear adverse effects of BPA, including depressed gestational and postnatal body weight gain, effects on the ovary (increased cystic follicles, depleted corpora lutea, and antral follicles), and serum hormones (increased serum estradiol and prolactin and decreased progesterone), were observed only at the two high doses of BPA. BPA-induced effects partially overlapped those induced by EE2, consistent with the known weak estrogenic activity of BPA.

Abstract
Di-isononyl phthalate (DINP) is a general-purpose plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride. However, this industrial chemical plasticizer used as a clouding agent has recently contaminated food and beverages that had been inspected by Taiwan Food and Drug Administration. This study develops a sensitive and specific method combining ultra-performance liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to investigate the pharmacokinetics of DINP in freely moving rats. Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) was used to monitor the transition of the protonated molecule m/z of 419 [M+H](+) to the product ion 149 for DINP. The analyte was analyzed by UPLC-MS/MS with C18 column (100×2.1mm, 1.7 μm) which was equilibrated and eluted with an isocratic mixture of acetonitrile-ammonium acetate water solution (90:10, v/v) at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min. Linear calibration curves were obtained for DINP concentration ranges of 0.05-2.5 μg/mL in plasma and feces. The feces were homogenized mechanically using 50% acetonitrile as the medium. The pharmacokinetic curve demonstrates that the disposition of DINP in rat plasma was fitted well by the two-compartment model after DINP administration (10 mg/kg, i.v.). The elimination half-life of DINP was 364±146 min and 150±58 min for intravenous (10 mg/kg) and oral (100 mg/kg) administration, respectively. The pharmacokinetic data indicate that the oral bioavailability of DINP in freely moving rats was about 1.19%. The total DINP excretion up to 48 h was 13.64±3.99% in feces.
