Abstract
CONTEXT The risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear for athletes participating in pivoting sports includes young age and female sex. A previous meta-analysis has reported a reinjury rate of 15% after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) for athletes across all sports. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first systematic review and meta-analysis of available literature reporting outcomes after ACLR in soccer players. OBJECTIVE To review and aggregate soccer-specific outcomes data after ACLR found in current literature to help guide a more tailored discussion regarding expectations and prognosis for soccer players seeking operative management of ACL injuries. DATA SOURCES A comprehensive search of publications was performed using PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and SPORTDiscus databases. STUDY SELECTION Inclusion criteria consisted of original studies, level of evidence 1 to 4, studies reporting clinical and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after primary ACLR in soccer players at all follow-up length. STUDY DESIGN The primary outcomes of interest were graft failure/reoperation rates, ACL injury in contralateral knee, return to soccer time, and PROs. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 4. DATA EXTRACTION Search of literature yielded 32 studies for inclusion that involved 3112 soccer players after ACLR. RESULTS The overall graft failure/reoperation rate ranged between 3.0% and 24.8% (mean follow-up range, 2.3-10 years) and the combined ACL graft failure and contralateral ACL injury rate after initial ACLR was 1.0% to 16.7% (mean follow-up range, 3-10 years); a subgroup analysis for female and male players revealed a secondary ACL injury incidence rate of 27%, 95% CI (22%, 32%) and 10%, 95% CI (6%, 15%), respectively. Soccer players were able to return to play between 6.1 and 11.1 months and the majority of PROs showed favorable scores at medium-term follow-up. CONCLUSION Soccer players experience high ACL injury rates after primary ACLR and demonstrated similar reinjury rates as found in previous literature of athletes who participate in high-demand pivoting sports.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the differences in muscle contractile properties measured by the TMG method between top-level football players of different playing positions. The sample consisted of 57 football players from the Serbian Super League, divided into three groups: defenders-DF, midfielders-MF, and forwards-FW. Muscles included in the study were the Rectus Femoris (RF), Vastus Medialis (VM), Vastus Lateralis (VL), Biceps Femoris (BF), and Semitendinosus (ST) of the right (R) and left (L) leg. The TMG parameters used in this study were contraction time (Tc), delay time (Td), relaxation time (Tr), maximal displacement (Dm), and sustain time (Ts). The ANOVA results showed that differences in TMG parameters between top-level football players of different playing positions are small and exist only in the Tr of RF (F = 4.658, p = 0.014), BF (F = 4.433, p = 0.016), and ST muscle (F = 3.808, p = 0.028), and the Tc (F = 3.214, p = 0.048) and Td (F = 3.705, p = 0.031) of the VM muscle. All differences were detected between DF and FW players, and all differences were in the left (non-dominant) leg. The results obtained in this study indicate that the training and selection process in football, from the aspect of functional and mechanical muscle properties, should be similar for all players, regardless of playing position. It has been shown that TMG has relatively low sensitive strength for detecting differences between football players of different playing positions.

Abstract
Tensiomyography is a non-invasive method to assess skeletal muscle contractile properties from the stimulated radial displacement. Many studies have used the rate of displacement (Vc) as an indirect measure of muscle contraction velocity. However, no standardised methodical approach exists to measure displacement and determine Vc. This review aimed to provide an overview of concepts to determine Vc and measurement protocols to foster the development of a standardised methodical approach. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guideline. Systematic searches were performed within five electronic databases and additional sources. The included 62 studies reported 10 different concepts to determine Vc, which we summarised in three groups. The determination concepts differed mainly regarding time intervals during the contraction phase considered and criteria used to define these intervals. Essential information on the equipment and raters, measurement setup, electrical stimulation procedure, and data analysis were frequently not reported. In conclusion, no consensus on how to determine Vc existed. Incomplete reporting of measurement protocols hindered study comparison, which obstructs developing a standardised approach. Therefore, we propose a new guideline for reporting measurement protocols, which covers the 1) equipment and rater, 2) measurement setup, including positioning of the subject, sensor and electrodes, 3) electrical stimulation, including initial stimulation amplitude, increment, and endpoint, and 4) data analysis, including selection criteria and number of analysed signals and a definition of derived parameters.

Abstract
Introduction. Diacutaneous Fibrolysis is defined as specific instrumental intervention to normalize function in the musculoskeletal system. It is considered a treatment method for the mechanical alterations of the locomotor system, and it is widely used in sports for therapeutic and preventive purposes. Despite the clinical benefits observed in different musculoskeletal conditions, the action mechanism of diacutaneous fibrolysis remains uncertain. There are no studies evaluating the neuromuscular response on the posterior muscular chain of the lower extremity in athletes, where overload, stiffness, and injury incidence are high. Objective. To evaluate the immediate, and 30 min post treatment effects of a single diacutaneous fibrolysis session on passive neuromuscular response and mechanosensitibity on hamstring and gluteus in athletes with shortening. Design. A randomized within participant clinical trial. Methods. Sixty-six athletes with hamstring shortening were included (PKE < 160). The lower limbs were randomized between the experimental limb and control limb, regardless of dominance. A single session of diacutaneous fibrolysis was applied to the posterior gluteus maximus, biceps femoris, and semitendinosus of the experimental lower limb whereas the control limb was not treated. Viscoelastic muscle properties (myotonometry), contractile muscle properties (tensomiography), and mechanosensitivity (algometry) were tested before treatment (T0), after treatment (T1), and 30 min post treatment (T2). Results. Regarding viscoelastic properties, in the intra-group analysis we found statistically significant differences in the experimental limb at T1, decreasing muscle stiffness in gluteus maximus (p < 0.042), in biceps femoris (p < 0.001) and in semitendinosus (p < 0.032). We also observed statistically significant differences in Tone decrease (p < 0.011) and relaxation increase (p < 0.001) in biceps femoris. At T2, the decrease in stiffness in all tested muscles was maintained (p < 0.05). There were statistically significant inter-groups differences in stiffness on gluteus (p < 0.048) and biceps femoris (p < 0.019) and in tone on biceps femoris (p < 0.009) compared to the control limb. For contractile properties, we only found statistically significant differences on maximal radial displacement (Dm) in gluteus, both control and experimental at T2 (p < 0.05) and in biceps femoris control (p < 0.030). No changes were found in the mechanosensitivity. Conclusions. A single session of diacutaneous fibrolysis produces changes in some parameters related to viscoelasticity properties of the biceps femoris and gluteus. There were no changes on contractile properties on semitendinosus. Only small changes on the contractile properties on the gluteus maximus and biceps femoris were found. No effect was found on the mechanosensitivity of the posterior chain muscles in athletes with hamstring shortening.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the muscle contractile response of the peroneus longus (PL) and tibialis anterior (TA) in groups with and without chronic ankle instability (CAI) using tensiomyography. Twenty-three adults, 12 with CAI and 11 healthy participants, participated in this study. All subjects underwent a tensiomyographic assessment of the PL and TA to measure delay time, contraction time and maximal displacement. The ankle evertor and invertor normalized peak torques, maximum work done and muscle thickness of the PL and TA were calculated. The delay time and contraction time of the PL in the CAI side were significantly higher than those in the healthy group (p < 0.05); however, no significant difference could be detected in the TA between groups. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the normalized peak torques, maximum work done and muscle thickness of the PL and TA between groups. The CAI side demonstrated a delayed muscle contractile response of the PL when compared with the healthy group although there was no difference in muscle strength and muscle size. Clinicians should consider the muscle contractile response of the PL for rehabilitation of the ankle evertor with CAI.

Abstract
The dynamic knee valgus (DKV) during different sport maneuvers has been widely described as risk factor to develop an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Hip and knee muscles seem to have a crucial role to prevent the dynamic knee valgus. This study aimed to give normative and correlational data about DKV and hip and knee neuromuscular response (NMR) among healthy active males. The hypothesis is that DKV could be correlated with hip NMR. A cross-sectional correlational study. Research Anatomy Laboratory. The study was carried out among 50 active, non-injured males. Dynamic Knee-Valgus angle and lower limb posterior chain muscles Neuromuscular Response. DKV was measured using Kinovea software during a Single-Legged Drop Jump test and NMR was measured using tensiomyography and myotonometry for gluteus maximum, biceps femoris, semitendinosus, lateral and medial gastrocnemius. Right and left limbs were both performed and analyzed independently. No significant correlation was observed between DKV and hip and knee muscles NMR. This study shows normative and correlational data about dynamic knee valgus, tensiomyography and myotonometry for healthy and active males. The DKV control seems to be non-correlated with isolated hip and knee muscles NMR so this suggests it is more about Central Nervous System activity than about isolated muscles NMR.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine clinical and neuromuscular properties in patients with normal or sub-normal subjective knee function after finalisation of 6 months' post-operative rehabilitation following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). METHODS Sixty patients after primary anatomical single-bundle hamstring ACLR were prospectively enrolled. Demographics, subjective, clinical and functional status of the injured knee were recorded at baseline, 6 and 12 months post-operatively. Return to pre-injury activities time (months) was monitored. Tensiomyography and isokinetic dynamometry of thigh muscles were performed at 6 months, when standard ACLR rehabilitation is finalized. Based on their IKDC Subjective Knee Evaluation scores at 6 months, they were assigned into "Normal" or "Sub-normal" group. All the above measured parameters were then compared between the two groups. RESULTS At 6 months' timeline, 21 patients (35%) perceived their knee function as "Normal", while 39 (65%) were "Sub-normal". There were no differences in clinical status between both groups, but patients in Normal group achieved higher IKDC, Lysholm, Tegner scores as well as higher single-leg hop test. They were taller, had lower body mass index and more of them achieved their preinjury level of activity at 12 months (67% vs. 33%). Tensiomyography revealed higher biceps femoris as well as semitendinosus and semimembranosus radial displacement values on the operated leg in Normal group. Isokinetic dynamometry showed significantly higher normalised peak torque and average power of knee extensor muscles. CONCLUSIONS Patients who perceive their knee function as normal at 6 months following ACLR presented with better neuromuscular properties of the thigh muscles. Decreased hamstring stiffness seems to be the key to higher return-to-preinjury activity. Postoperative rehabilitation should be more focused on reducing hamstring stiffness in addition to improving knee extensor muscle strength. Level of evidence II (prospective cohort study).

Abstract
Skeletal muscle is considered as a near-constant volume system, and the contractions of the muscle are related to the changes in tissue thickness. Assessment of the skeletal muscle contractile parameters such as maximum contraction thickness (Th), contraction time (Tc), contraction velocity (Vc), sustain time (Ts), and half-relaxation (Tr) provides valuable information for various medical applications. This paper presents a single-element wearable ultrasonic sensor (WUS) and a method to measure the skeletal muscle contractile parameters in A-mode ultrasonic data acquisition. The developed WUS was made of double-layer polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric polymer films with a simple and low-cost fabrication process. A flexible, lightweight, thin, and small size WUS would provide a secure attachment to the skin surface without affecting the muscle contraction dynamics of interest. The developed WUS was employed to monitor the contractions of gastrocnemius (GC) muscle of a human subject. The GC muscle contractions were evoked by the electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) at varying EMS frequencies from 2 Hz up to 30 Hz. The tissue thickness changes due to the muscle contractions were measured by utilizing a time-of-flight method in the ultrasonic through-transmission mode. The developed WUS demonstrated the capability to monitor the tissue thickness changes during the unfused and fused tetanic contractions. The tetanic progression level was quantitatively assessed using the parameter of the fusion index (FI) obtained. In addition, the contractile parameters (Th, Tc, Vc, Ts, and Tr) were successfully extracted from the measured tissue thickness changes. In addition, the unfused and fused tetanus frequencies were estimated from the obtained FI-EMS frequency curve. The WUS and ultrasonic method proposed in this study could be a valuable tool for inexpensive, non-invasive, and continuous monitoring of the skeletal muscle contractile properties.

Abstract
An exhaustive review has been made to filter the studies that have analyzed muscle function though tensiomyography (TMG) with elite or well-trained athletes. The results of this review indicate that the several protocols used in athletes to find the displacement-time curve with greater maximum radial muscle displacement showed a good-excellent reliability. TMG has been used to characterize athletes' muscles contractile properties from specific sports disciplines, although there are very few sports that have been deeply analyzed. TMG seems to be useful to determine changes in muscles contractile properties after stimuli of competition, training or recovery. These changes have been strongly related with the fatigue produced after an effort. In addition, TMG parameters could be used to control training effects during a specific period or throughout the season being also a very useful tool to individualize athletes training loads. In this sense, it also seems to provide sports performance information in cyclic sports by relating some TMG parameters with performance indicators. On the other hand, the TMG-BCM algorithm has been used as a lateral and functional symmetry measure and as a monitoring tool for injury prevention and recovery. However, it seems to be no clear criterion that determines asymmetry degree, nor established contractile properties values as a reference to prevent or recover sports injuries. Despite the utility shown in these fields, there are still very few sports analyzed and it is really necessary to continue advancing in the knowledge of the contractile properties behavior, such as the effects of athletes' training, competitions and injuries and even in the parameters interpretation obtained with the TMG.

Abstract
Tensiomyography (TMG) has gained popularity as a tool to quantify muscle contractile properties. However, it is unclear whether joint angle and inter-stimulus interval influence the test-retest reliability of TMG. Fifteen participants (13M/2F; 29.5 ± 7.4 y) underwent TMG recording of the biceps brachii (BB) at 10°, 45° and 90° of elbow flexion with 10 and 20 s inter-stimulus rest intervals in a randomised order on two separate days. The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC2,1) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were calculated for delay time (Td), contraction time (Tc), sustain time (Ts), relaxation time (Tr) and maximal displacement (Dm). Additionally, the standard error of measurement (SEM), coefficient of variation (CV) and minimal detectable change (MDC) were obtained. Across conditions the ICC2,1 varied for each parameter (Td:0.465-0.947, Tc:0.452-0.831, Ts:0.717-0.918, Tr:0.841-0.935, Dm:0.646-0.900). CV was low for Td (2.1-3.0%), Tc (4.4-7.7%) and Ts (5.5-6.9%) but greater for Tr (10.0-15.3%) and Dm (5.8-13.1%) across conditions. Ts (∼210 ms, P < 0.001) and Dm (∼17 mm, P < 0.001) were greatest at 10° and 90°, respectively, while Td was shortest (∼22.9 ms, P = 0.002) at 10° compared to other angles. No differences were observed between inter-stimulus intervals or day. The findings are expected to help shape best practice methods for TMG use in field and research based settings.

Abstract
Skeletal muscle operates as a near-constant volume system; as such muscle shortening during contraction is transversely linked to radial deformation. Therefore, to assess contractile properties of skeletal muscle, radial displacement can be evoked and measured. Mechanomyography measures muscle radial displacement and during the last 20 years, tensiomyography has become the most commonly used and widely reported technique among the various methodologies of mechanomyography. Tensiomyography has been demonstrated to reliably measure peak radial displacement during evoked muscle twitch, as well as muscle twitch speed. A number of parameters can be extracted from the tensiomyography displacement/time curve and the most commonly used and reliable appear to be peak radial displacement and contraction time. The latter has been described as a valid non-invasive means of characterising skeletal muscle, based on fibre-type composition. Over recent years, applications of tensiomyography measurement within sport and exercise have appeared, with applications relating to injury, recovery and performance. Within the present review, we evaluate the perceived strengths and weaknesses of tensiomyography with regard to its efficacy within applied sports medicine settings. We also highlight future tensiomyography areas that require further investigation. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to critically examine the existing evidence surrounding tensiomyography as a tool within the field of sports medicine.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a repeated sprint ability (RSA) test on the contractile properties of the muscles in elite futsal players. A total of 20 elite players completed the RSA test (7 × 30 m), and the contractile response from the rectus femoris (RF) and biceps femoris (BF) of both legs were analysed pre and post through tensiomyography. There was a significant increment in 30-m times from the third sprint onwards (p < 0.05). The percent decrement in sprint ability (RSADEC) with respect to the first sprint was significantly higher in the last sprint. The players did not show evidence of lateral asymmetry in any of the muscle groups analysed after the RSA test (p > 0.05). Following the RSA test there was a significant reduction in the delay time (Td) in RF, a significant decrement in half-relaxation time (Tr) in the RF, and a significant reduction in sustain time (Ts) in the RF and BF of both legs. The maximum radial displacement of the muscle belly (Dm) increased (1.6 mm; effect size = 0.75; p < 0.05) in the RF after the RSA test, indicating reduced muscle stiffness and the ability to generate strength rapidly. The decrement in performance during the RSA test was significantly correlated with changes in contraction time (Tc) in RF and BF, Td in BF, and Dm in RF (p < 0.05). The RSA test generated alterations in the contractile properties of the RF and BF in elite players. However, futsal players did not present asymmetries in any muscular parameters. The baseline contractile muscle parameters could be an important factor related to performance of players during repeated high-intensity actions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Quadriceps muscle weakness is common following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Tensiomyography is a recent method to assess muscle strength, and one that also enables evaluation of individual muscles. The purpose of this study was to evaluate motor unit recruitment and investigate the effects on mechanical and contractile characteristics of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles after chronic ACL reconstruction. METHODS This study recruited 20 participants: three males and seven females at 24 months after ACL reconstruction, and three males and seven females with no history of knee injury (control group). All participants underwent tensiomyographic assessment of each thigh muscle, bilaterally, to measure maximal displacement, delay time, contraction time, sustained time, and half-relaxation time. The following muscles were evaluated: vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, semitendinosus, and biceps femoris. Mean normalized muscle peak torque, mean normalized maximum work done, mean angle to peak torque, and mean time to peak torque based on isokinetic peak torque measurements were calculated in both groups. RESULTS Maximal displacement of the vastus medialis on the ACL reconstruction side was significantly higher than for the non-ACL reconstruction side and for the control group (p = 0.026). Half-relaxation time for the vastus medialis and biceps femoris was significantly higher for both the ACLR and non-ACLR sides compared with the control group (p = 0.001). There were also significant differences in symmetry in the vastus medialis and biceps femoris when comparing results between the ACL reconstruction group and the control group (p = 0.034, p = 0.043, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The presence of strength and symmetry deficits in the vastus medialis and biceps femoris suggests the need for long-term post-operative training following ACL reconstruction. There are clinical relevant improvements of muscle response and velocity as well as muscle strength in patients with chronic ACLR. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE II.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine whether mechanomyographic (MMG) determined contractile properties of the biceps brachii change during exercise-induced hypertrophy and subsequent disuse atrophy. METHODS Healthy subjects (mean ± SD, 23.7 ± 2.6 years, BMI 21.8 ± 2.4, n = 19) performed unilateral biceps curls (9 sets × 12 repetitions, 5 sessions per week) for 8 weeks (hypertrophic phase) before ceasing exercise (atrophic phase) for the following 8 weeks (non-dominant limb; treatment, dominant limb; control). MMG measures of muscle contractile properties (contraction time; T c, maximum displacement; D max, contraction velocity; V c), electromyographic (EMG) measures of muscle fatigue (median power frequency; MPF), strength measures (maximum voluntary contraction; MVC) and measures of muscle thickness (ultrasound) were obtained. RESULTS Two-way repeated measures ANOVA showed significant differences (P < 0.05) between treatment and control limbs. During the hypertrophic phase treatment MVC initially declined (weeks 1-3), due to fatigue (decline in MPF), followed by improvement against control during weeks 6-8. Between weeks 5 and 8 treatment, muscle thickness was greater than control, reflecting gross hypertrophy. MMG variables Dmax (weeks 2, 7) and Vc (weeks 7, 8) declined. During the atrophic phase, MVC (weeks 9-12) and muscle thickness (weeks 9, 10) initially remained high before declining to control levels, reflecting gross atrophy. MMG variables D max (weeks 9, 14) and V c (weeks 9, 14, 15) also declined during the atrophic phase. No change in T c was found throughout the hypertrophic or atrophic phases. CONCLUSIONS MMG detects changes in contractile properties during stages of exercise-induced hypertrophy and disuse atrophy suggesting its applicability as a clinical tool in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Abstract
PURPOSE Tensiomyography (TMG) has been used to assess neuromuscular characteristics of muscles of the lower extremity in soccer players. However, the effects of lower extremity dominance on TMG characteristics in this population have not been reported to date. The purpose of this study was to compare the TMG neuromuscular characteristics between the dominant and non-dominant lower extremity in male soccer players. METHODS Thirty-eight consecutive healthy male soccer players underwent resting TMG assessment of vastus medialis (VM), vastus lateralis (VL), rectus femoris (RF), semitendinosus (ST), biceps femoris (BF), gastrocnemius medialis (GM), and gastrocnemius lateralis (GL) in both lower extremities. The maximal displacement, delay time, contraction time, sustained time, and half-relaxation time were obtained and compared between both sides. RESULTS There were no significant differences in the vast majority of the TMG parameters between both lower extremities. The dominant side demonstrated higher VM contraction time (p = 0.008), RF sustained time (p = 0.009), RF half-relaxation time (p = 0.01), and BF sustained time (p = 0.04), but lower VL contraction time (p = 0.03) and VL delay time (p = 0.02) compared to the non-dominant side. CONCLUSION In general, TMG-assessed neuromuscular characteristics of the VM, VL, RF, ST, BF, GM, and GL were not affected by lower extremity dominance in male soccer players. Therefore, there is no need to assess both sides when using TMG to monitor the response to training or muscles at risk of injury in soccer players unless there is a specific reason. Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the effects of anterior cruciate ligament injury on mechanical and contractile characteristics of the skeletal muscles of the lower extremity in competitive soccer players through tensiomyography (TMG). METHODS All competitive male soccer players with confirmed acute anterior cruciate ligament tear included underwent resting TMG assessment of muscles of both lower extremities before anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. The same values were obtained from a sex- and sports level-matched control group. The maximal displacement, delay time, contraction time, sustained time, and half-relaxation time were obtained for the following muscles in all subjects: vastus medialis, vastus laterals, rectus femoris, semitendinosus, biceps femoris, gastrocnemius medialis, and gastrocnemius lateralis. RESULTS The majority of TMG parameters were higher in the injured compared to the control group. The contraction time of the vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, and rectus femoris was significantly higher in the injured compared to the control group (p = 0.003, p = 0.001, and p < 0.001, respectively). The biceps femoris was the only hamstring muscle with significant differences between groups, with increased contraction time and maximal displacement in the injured compared to the control group (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively). The gastrocnemius medialis was clearly more affected than the gastrocnemius lateralis, with contraction time, half-relaxation time, and maximal displacement significantly higher (p = 0.01, p = 0.03, and p < 0.001, respectively), and the sustained time significantly lower (p = 0.01), in the injured compared to the control group. The contraction time of the vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, semitendinosus, and biceps femoris was significantly higher in the injured compared to non-injured side in the anterior cruciate ligament-injured group (p = 0.007, p = 0.04, p = 0.004, p = 0.02, and p = 0.02, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Anterior cruciate ligament injury caused a decrease in contraction velocity (in quadriceps, hamstrings and gastrocnemius medialis), resistance to fatigue (in quadriceps and gastrocnemius medialis), and muscle tone/stiffness (in hamstrings and gastrocnemius medialis). Overall, it was demonstrated that these effects were worst in the quadriceps and gastrocnemius medialis compared to the hamstring and gastrocnemius lateralis. These findings may contribute to a better design of rehabilitation programs in order to optimize the recovery and potentially increase sport performance at return to sport. Abstract
INTRODUCTION the aim of the present study is to evaluate the mechanical and contractile properties of the gluteus maximus (GM) muscle in patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Our hypothesis is that the clinical observation of GM pain would be evidenced by tensiomyographic impairment in muscle function. MATERIALS AND METHODS A prospective, cross-sectional, intra-group comparative study was conducted to assess the neuromuscular changes of lower extremity muscles in patients with FAI. Fifty-one patients with clinical and radiographic diagnosis of FAI for at least 3 months were included. The rectus femoris (RF), adductor magnus (AM), and GM of both lower extremities of all patients were evaluated with tensiomyography (TMG). The values of TMG of the affected lower extremity were compared to those of the healthy contralateral side. The parameters obtained in this study were maximal displacement (Dm), and contraction time (Tc). RESULTS The Tc of the injured GM was significantly higher compared to the healthy side (p = 0.01). There were no significant side-to-side differences in the Dm of the GM (p = 0.13), either in the Tc and Dm of the RF (p = 0.15 and p = 0.8, respectively) and AM (p = 0.25 and p = 0.75, respectively). CONCLUSIONS FAI is associated with impairment of contraction time in the GM of the injured compared to the healthy side. Impairment of the GM may be monitored to evaluate response to conservative or surgical treatment.
