Abstract
PURPOSE Although arthroscopic repair of the deltoid ligament is becoming a popular procedure, no studies have assessed which bundles of the deltoid ligament can be reached by anterior ankle arthroscopy. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of the arthroscopic repair of the deep layer of the deltoid ligament. In addition, it aimed to correlate which fascicle of the superficial layer of the deltoid ligament corresponds to the deep fascicle visualised by arthroscopy. METHODS Arthroscopy was performed in 12 fresh frozen ankles by two foot and ankle surgeons. With the arthroscope introduced through the anterolateral portal, the medial compartment and the deltoid ligament were explored in ankle dorsiflexion without distraction. Using a suture passer introduced percutaneously, the most posterior fibres of the deep deltoid ligament visualised by anterior arthroscopy were tagged. Then, the ankles were dissected to identify the deep and superficial bundles of the deltoid ligament tagged with a suture. RESULTS In all specimens (100%), the intermediate part of the tibiotalar fascicle, corresponding to the fibres originating from the anterior colliculus, was tagged with a suture. The posterior part of the tibiotalar fascicle was never tagged with a suture. In all specimens, the intermediate part of the tibiotalar fascicle grasped by the suture correlated with the tibiospring fascicle of the superficial layer. CONCLUSIONS The current study demonstrates the feasibility of the arthroscopic repair of the deep fascicle of the deltoid ligament. By performing anterior arthroscopy, it is possible to visualise and repair the intermediate part of the tibiotalar fascicle (deep layer of the deltoid ligament). These fibres correspond to the tibiospring fascicle of the superficial layer. The clinical relevance of the current study is that the arthroscopic repair of the deep layer of the deltoid ligament is feasible through anterior ankle arthroscopy. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Not applicable.

Abstract
PURPOSE Open ligament repair is widely considered the gold standard treatment for chronic ankle instability. Nevertheless, arthroscopic treatment of ankle instability has gained popularity becoming the preferred technique for many surgeons. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of all-inside arthroscopic versus open lateral ligament repair for chronic ankle instability at 5 years follow-up. METHODS Ninety consecutive patients were surgically treated for chronic ankle instability without concomitant intra-articular pathology observed on MRI: 41 patients [median age 28 (range 15-54) years] underwent an open lateral ligament repair (OLR); 49 patients [median age 30 (range 19-47) years] underwent an all-inside arthroscopic ligament repair (ALR). Functional outcomes using the Foot Functional Index (FFI), the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Hindfoot Score, and the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure-Sports Subscale (FAAM-SS) were assessed preoperatively and at the latest follow-up. At the latest follow-up, the satisfaction rate and complications were also recorded. RESULTS The mean follow-up was 58 ± 17.6 (range 47-81) months. In both groups FFI, AOFAS and FAAM-SS score significantly improved compared to preoperative values (p < 0.001). There was no statistically significant difference in postoperative outcomes between groups in the AOFAS (n.s) and FAAM-SS (n.s), but the FFI results were significantly better in the ALR group (p < 0.05). No major complications were reported in either group. CONCLUSION Open and arthroscopic ligament repair to treat chronic ankle instability without concomitant intra-articular pathology produced excellent comparable clinical outcomes at 5 years follow-up. The complications were minimal in both study groups with no significant differences in AOFAS and FAAM-SS scores. However, arthroscopic repair showed significantly better results on the FFI. Therefore, when treating chronic lateral ankle instability, surgeons should consider arthroscopic ligament repair. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE III.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Arthroscopic anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair is widely performed for chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI). Although many studies have reported excellent outcomes with this procedure, the recurrence of instability remains a common concern. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the risk factors for the recurrence of instability after arthroscopic repair for CLAI. METHODS Fifty-six ankles of 53 patients with a mean age of 31.8 ± 14.7 years were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent arthroscopic ATFL repair. If instability remained immediately after ATFL repair, calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) repair was performed. The Ankle Activity Score (AAS) was assessed preoperatively, and clinical outcomes including the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot scale, Karlsson-Peterson scores, and the Self-Administered Foot Evaluation Questionnaire (SAFE-Q) were evaluated preoperatively and at the final follow-up. Talar tilt angle (TTA) was assessed preoperatively and 1 year postoperatively. Ankles were divided into 2 groups-nonrecurrence (postoperative TTA, <6 degrees) and recurrence (postoperative TTA, ≥6 degrees)-and clinical outcomes were compared. RESULTS Sixteen ankles showed recurrent instability, whereas 40 did not. AAS, TTA, and social functioning in the SAFE-Q were significantly higher in the recurrence group than those in the nonrecurrence group preoperatively. In addition, the rate of poor ATFL remnant quality and the number of CFLs not repaired despite the preoperative injury diagnosis were significantly higher in the recurrence group than in the nonrecurrence group. CONCLUSION Arthroscopic repair for ATFL and CFL deficiencies with preoperative high activity, poor remnant quality, and neglected CFL injury can result in the recurrence of instability. Appropriate surgical procedures to prevent the recurrence of instability should be selected for these ankles. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level IV, retrospective case series.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between anteromedial ankle osteophytes (AMAO) and anteromedial ankle impingement (AMAI) in chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) through visualization and quantification. METHODS Forty-three patients with unilateral CLAI between September 2018 and March 2020 accepted arthroscopic repair of an anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and were split into two groups: AMAI (AMAI including intraoperative AMAO resection) and pure CLAI (with AMAO but without AMAI, no AMAO resection). The AMAO protrusion lengths in each direction were measured and compared after all of the ankles were reconstructed. All patients were assessed preoperatively and at 2-year follow-up with ankle dorsiflexion, the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score, and visual analog scale (VAS) score. RESULTS Intelligent analysis showed that a large extent of osteophytes was found at the dorsomedial surface of the talar neck in AMAI group. The upper and inner bound protrusion distances of AMAO in AMAI group were greater than in the pure CLAI group. There was no significant difference in anterior bound protrusion distance of AMAO between the two groups. Preoperatively, the ankle dorsiflexion of AMAI group (7.6 ± 1.4°) was considerably lower than that of pure CLAI group (22.4 ± 1.9°) (p < 0.001). When compared to the pure CLAI group, the AMAI group had a substantially worse AOFAS score (62.2 ± 6.7 vs 71.1 ± 9.1; p < 0.001) and VAS score (6.0 ± 1.0 vs 4.9 ± 0.8; p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in postoperative ankle dorsiflexion, AOFAS score, or VAS score between the two groups. CONCLUSION AMAO is formed mostly on the dorsomedial surface of the talar neck in CLAI with AMAI, and the upper and inner bound protrusion lengths of AMAO were shown to be significantly correlated with the existence of AMAI in CLAI. Arthroscopic Broström-Gould repair has comparable radiological and clinical outcomes compared to traditional open Broström-Gould repair in high-demand patients. Abstract
PURPOSE This study sought to confirm whether traditional open Broström-Gould repair and arthroscopic Broström-Gould repair for chronic ankle instability (CAI) would produce comparable radiological and clinical outcomes in high-demand patients. METHODS This retrospective case-cohort study included high-demand patients, as determined by a pre-injury Tegner Activity Level ≥ 6, who underwent Broström-Gould repair and were followed up for ≥ 2 years. Patients were divided into the arthroscopic Broström-Gould repair group (AS Group) and the open Broström-Gould repair group (Open Group). Perioperative radiological assessments were performed. The Tegner Activity Levels, Foot and Ankle Outcome Scores (FAOSs), Karlsson and Peterson (K-P) scores, and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot (AOFAS) scores were evaluated clinically. RESULTS A total of 65 patients (31 from the AS Group and 34 from the Open Group) were included in the study. There were no differences in age, sex, body mass index, preoperative anterior talar translation, talar tilt, signal-to-noise ratio, FAOS, K-P score, or AOFAS score between the two groups (n.s.). The preinjury median Tegner Activity Level was 7 and unchanged at the final follow-up in both groups. Postoperative stress radiographs showed improvement; however, the groups did not differ significantly. The FAOS, K-P scores, and AOFAS scores improved in each group (P < 0.001). However, the clinical scores did not differ between the groups (all n.s.). CONCLUSIONS Traditional open and arthroscopic Broström-Gould repair for CAI in high-demand patients had comparable radiological and clinical outcomes. Clinically, arthroscopic Broström-Gould repair may represent a viable surgical alternative to open Broström-Gould repair in high-demand patients. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level III.

Abstract
Background The arthroscopic Broström–Gould procedure (ABG) gained particular attention among clinicians and researchers due to its high rate of satisfactory results. There is a lack of evidence regarding the differences in clinical outcomes for the various suture techniques. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in clinical effect in patients treated with one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture or two-anchor horizontal mattress suture for chronic ankle instability (CAI). Methods This retrospective cohort study examined CAI patients who underwent either one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture or two-anchor horizontal mattress suture ABG between January 2018 and January 2020. Patients were divided into two groups based on the suture knot type used and the associated number of anchors. The operative time, surgical cost, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Score, Karlsson Ankle Functional Score (KAFS), the rate of return to sports, complications, and measured biomechanical strength using standardized equipment were compared between groups. Results Sixty-four CAI patients were included (one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture group n = 30, two-anchor horizontal mattress suture group n = 34). Compared to the two-anchor horizontal mattress suture group, the one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture group had significantly shorter operative time (p < .001) and lower surgical cost (p < .001). There were no postoperative complications in the two groups, and no significant differences in the VAS, AOFAS, KAFS, and rate of return to sports in postoperative follow-up between the two groups at 1 and 2 years after surgery. There was no statistically significant difference in biomechanical strength anterior drawer test displacement (p > .05) between the one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture and two-anchor horizontal mattress suture at 2 years after surgery. Conclusion ABG using a one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture showed comparable clinical results to a two-anchor horizontal mattress suture in the treatment of CAI at intermediate-term follow-up time. However, one-anchor modified Mason–Allen suture may be a faster, simpler, cost-effective substitute technology. Level of evidence Level III, comparative study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) comprises the superior and inferior fascicles. The inferior fascicle is connected to the calcaneofibular ligament, and forms "lateral fibulotalocalcaneal ligament (LFTCL) complex". This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of diagnosing LFTCL complex injuries in patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI). METHODS Forty-eight ankles (35 with CLAI and 13 without CLAI) underwent arthroscopic surgery, and preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was conducted with 0.8 mm- thick axial and oblique slices. The diagnostic accuracy of injuries to the superior fascicle and LFTCL complex was evaluated by two observers. RESULTS The sensitivity and specificity of the LFTCL complex injury were 94.7% and 92.3% for observer 1 and 84.2% and 84.6% for observer 2, respectively. CONCLUSIONS MRI with 0.8 mm slices could detect LFTCL complex injury in patients with CLAI. Diagnosing the LFTCL complex injury on MRI will improve outcomes of an arthroscopic isolated ATFL repair.

Abstract
Purpose To evaluate graduating orthopaedic resident case volume and variability for ankle arthroscopy from 2016 to 2020. Methods The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education surgical case log data from 2016 to 2020 for graduating United States orthopaedic surgery residents was assessed. Arthroscopy procedures of the leg/ankle were categorized. The average number of cases performed per resident was compared from 2016 to 2020 to determine the percent change in case volume. The 10th, 30th, 50th, 70th, and 90th percentiles of case volumes from 2016 to 2020 were presented to demonstrate case volume variability. Results There was no significant change in the average number of leg/ankle arthroscopy cases from 2016 to 2020 (6.2 ± 5 [range 0-35] vs 6.1 ± 6 [range 0-76] P = .732), despite a 19% increase in the average number of total leg/ankle procedures performed over time (168.4 ± 47 [range 55-414] in 2016; 200.8 ± 57 in 2020 [range 67-601], P < .001). There was wide variability in ankle arthroscopy case volume among residents. The 90th percentile of residents performed 13 cases in 2020, compared with 5 in 50th percentile, and 1 in the 10th percentile. Conclusions Orthopaedic surgery resident exposure to ankle arthroscopy has remained low and highly variable overtime, despite an overall increase in the total number of leg/ankle procedures performed. Clinical Relevance Understanding ankle arthroscopy in case volume and variability is important for programs to ensure that orthopaedic residents are gaining adequate exposure to increasingly popular procedures. Orthopaedic surgery residency programs should explore methods to increase resident exposure to ankle arthroscopy.

Abstract
There are several studies about arthroscopic repair techniques for the lesion of the anterior talofibular ligament. However, the research concentrating on the avulsion of the talar insertion of the anterior talofibular ligament is very rare. Among 122 patients who suffered from recurrent ankle sprain and underwent arthroscopic anterior talofibular ligament repair from October 2016 to January 2019 in our hospital, 11 patients with an avulsion of the talar insertion of this ligament were diagnosed and then treated with the arthroscopic suture-bridge repair technique in the present study. The clinical outcomes were assessed using the Karlsson-Peterson score, Ankle and hindfoot score by American Orthopedic of Foot and Ankle Society, Sefton articular stability scale and Visual Analogue Scale. The complications were recorded at the time of observation. The median value of the follow-up time was 30 (range 18-36) months. At the final follow-up, the median value of the Karlsson-Peterson score, American Orthopedic of Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot score, and Visual Analogue Scale score was 90, 90, 1, respectively. Based on the Sefton stability scale, 10 cases were in the excellent or good category. No wound infections and no neurovascular injuries were encountered, also no case required revision surgery. Only 1 patient complained about mild local irritation at the knotless anchor site. The arthroscopic suture-bridge technique could be suitable for treatment of an avulsion of the talar insertion of the anterior talofibular ligament due to satisfactory activity recovery and few complications.

Abstract
Ankle sprains are a common injury among physically active populations and occur with an incidence of around 2.15 per 1000 person-years. This article discusses various surgical procedures used to treat chronic lateral ankle instability, including direct ligament repair, anatomic reconstruction, and nonanatomic reconstruction. We focus our discussion on the most common and challenging complications of ankle stabilization, both in our experience and as supported by the existing literature, including recurrent instability, superficial peroneal nerve injury, and unaddressed pathology that continues to cause symptoms and limit function. We offer possible methods to manage these conditions as well as available outcome data.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Arthroscopic techniques have gradually become popular for anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair. However, the reliability of the repair and the risk of nerve injuries are of concern. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fully intra-articular lasso-loop stitch technique for arthroscopic ATFL repair. METHODS From October 2018 to December 2019, 43 cases with chronic lateral ankle instability were treated with this fully intra-articular lasso-loop stitch technique using the Arthro-Pierce instrument. The Karlsson-Peterson score, Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT) score, visual analog scale (VAS) score, anterior drawer and talar tilt stress fluoroscopy were evaluated at the preoperative and final follow-up appointments, respectively. All surgical complications were also recorded. RESULTS A total of 39 cases were followed up for a mean of 28.23 ± 3.64 months (range, 23-34 months). At the final follow-up, the averages of the Karlsson-Peterson, CAIT and VAS scores were 90.26 ± 6.58, 88.56 ± 7.21 and 0.79 ± 1.06, respectively. During surgery, 2 cases were modified with augmentation of the inferior extensor retinaculum. No nerve injuries were encountered. Only 1 female complained about mild knot irritation. A 25-year-old solider required revision surgery due to an accidental injury. CONCLUSION We found the fully intra-articular lasso-loop stitch technique for ATFL repair using the Arthro-Pierce instrument to be reliable and safe with a sufficient and good-quality ligament remnant. Abstract
INTRODUCTION The all-inside arthroscopic repair of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is a technically challenging and still-recent procedure to treat chronic ankle instability (CAI). Favourable clinical outcomes have been shown from originator centers, but this is one of the first series from a non-originator centre. The purpose of the present study is to present the clinical and functional results of patients with CAI underwent arthroscopic all-inside ATFL repair. METHODS This is a series of cases of 18 consecutive patients who underwent the all-inside arthroscopic ATFL repair, for CAI, after the failure of conservative treatment performed for six months. The evaluation was made using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS), visual analog pain scale (VAS), anterior drawer, and talar tilt tests. RESULTS All 18 patients were evaluated for a mean follow-up period of 12 months. There was an improvement in the AOFAS (p < 0.001), with the mean improving from 69.6 points to 98.1, standard deviation (SD) = 11.09, and in the mean VAS score (p < 0.001), from 5.0 to 0.5 points (SD = 0.78). All ankles were stable, as assessed by the anterior drawer test and talar tilt test. The only complication found was neurapraxia of the superficial fibular nerve in one patient (5%). All of the patients classified the treatment as good or excellent and returned to sports activities without limitations. CONCLUSION Treatment of CAI by the all-inside arthroscopic ATFL repair was able to restore ankle stability and showed good clinical results and high satisfaction rates.

Abstract
PURPOSE The lateral ligament complex of the ankle has been extensively studied. Recently an anatomical study described a connection between anterior talofibular ligament inferior fascicle (ATFLif) and calcaneofibular ligament (CFL). The applicability and the mechanical role of these connections have not yet been studied and need to be clarified. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the connection between ATFLif and CFL through a dynamic measurement analysis. METHODS An anatomical study was performed in 13 fresh-frozen below-the-knee ankle specimens. Each specimen was dissected in a protocolized manner until the lateral ligaments were exposed. A complete injury to both ATFL's fascicles was created in the proximal third of the ligament. A displacement transducer specifically design was inserted in the CFL and in the lateral part of the calcaneus to test its lengthening. A traction of 1 kg weight (9.8 N) was applied to ATFLif while the transducer measured the lengthening that this force created in the CFL. RESULTS A total of 13 ankle specimens were carefully dissected. One specimen with signals of a prior traumatic injury of the ATFLif was excluded. A total of 12 specimens were included, 7 females and 5 males with an average age of 74 years (52-88 years). The right ankle was dissected in 6 specimens. ATFL was identified as a two-fascicled ligament in all cases. The fibers connecting the ATFLif and CFL were observed in all specimens. The displacement transducer showed lengthening in the CFL in all measurements with a median of 0.59 mm (SD ± 0.34). CONCLUSION Connecting fibers between ATFLif and CFL are robust enough to transmit tension from one structure to the other. In the case of associated proximal lesions of the ATFLif and CFL, ligaments repair with a single suture may be considered. This can be applied in surgical procedures in patients with lateral ankle instability.

Abstract
PURPOSE Arthroscopic all-inside anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair is a common surgical technique for chronic ankle instability (CAI), and the condition of the ATFL remnants is associated with its reparability. ATFL reparability can affect the clinical course, but the relationship between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and the intraoperative ATFL reparability is still unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between ATFL signal intensities according to MRI and intraoperative ATFL reparability. METHODS This study included 55 cases of CAI (n = 37) and osteochondral lesion of the talus (n = 18) that underwent MRI followed by subsequent arthroscopy. MRI signal intensity was measured preoperatively to calculate the signal to noise ratio (SNR). During arthroscopy, the presence of an ATFL tear was checked and the ATFL tension was classified as taut, mild laxity, or laxity; ATFL quality was classified as excellent (normal), moderate (abnormal but reparable), or poor (irreparable). It was then analyzed whether there was a relationship between the intraoperative findings and the SNR. RESULTS The mean SNR was 23.4 ± 21.6. The SNR was significantly different according to the presence of an ATFL tear and ATFL tension and quality (all P = 0.001). The SNR was better correlated with ATFL quality (r = 0.708) than the presence of a tear (r = 0.545) or degree of tension (r = 0.653). The diagnostic SNR cutoff point to distinguish a normal ATFL from an abnormal but reparable ATFL was 11.2, and that to distinguish between an irreparable and reparable ATFL, was 32.3. CONCLUSION The SNR, representing MRI signal intensities, is highly correlated with the intraoperative measures of the ATFL. Therefore, the SNR had predictive value for determining the arthroscopic reparability of the ATFL. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level III.

Abstract
Arthroscopic techniques for the treatment of ankle instability are increasing. The possibility of treating concomitant ankle pathology and ankle instability in the same procedure with similar outcomes and minor complications is making foot and ankle surgeons rethink the role of the current gold standard technique, the open Broström-Gould procedure. The improvement of arthroscopic procedures in the ankle joint, as has happened before in other joints, is forcing the evolution of the classic open gold standard techniques toward an arthroscopic approach. A nondistraction and ankle dorsiflexion procedure is the key arthroscopic technique. The anterior talofibular ligament's superior fascicle, an intra-articular structure, is located on the floor of the lateral gutter, and distraction detrimentally narrows the view and access to this space.

Abstract
Background: The high prevalence of ankle sprains in the population produces a significant number of patients with lateral instability. Persistence of this condition may lead to the progressive involvement of medial structures, causing a multidirectional rotational instability. Methods: This is a retrospective study with patients diagnosed with multidirectional instability who underwent ankle arthroscopy with medial (arthroscopic tensioning) and lateral repair (arthroscopic Bröstrom) between January 2018 and January 2020. All patients were evaluated for pain and function according to the visual analog scale (VAS) score and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Hindfoot Score at a mean of 14.8 months (5-27 months) in follow-up. A total of 30 ankles (29 patients) were included in the study. Results: The AOFAS score increase from a 49.7 (CI 5.8) to a 91.9 (CI 2.4) mean (P = .001) and was followed by significant improvement in the mean VAS score (6.8, CI 0.37-0.95, CI 0.31). The majority of patients had associated procedures (53.3%), and a low complication rate was found (16.6%). Conclusion: Combined medial and lateral arthroscopic repair might be an effective and safe alternative in the treatment of multidirectional instability. Inclusion of the deltoid ligament complex and the low invasiveness of the arthroscopic technique may improve the clinical outcomes of these patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND Both the percutaneous technique with arthroscopic assistance, also known as arthroscopic Broström (AB), and the arthroscopic all-inside ligament repair (AI) are widely used to treat chronic lateral ankle instability. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of these 2 arthroscopic stabilizing techniques. METHODS Thirty-nine consecutive patients were arthroscopically treated for chronic ankle instability by 2 different surgeons. The AB group comprised 20 patients with a mean age of 30.2 (range, 18-42) years and a mean follow-up of 19.6 (range, 12-28) months. The AI group comprised 19 patients with a mean age of 30.9 (range, 18-46) years and mean follow-up of 20.7 (range, 13-32) months. Functional outcomes using the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) hindfoot score and visual analog pain scale (VAS) were assessed pre- and postoperatively. Range of motion (ROM) and complications were recorded. RESULTS In both groups the AOFAS and VAS scores significantly improved compared with preoperative values (P < .001) with no difference (P > .1) between groups. In the AB group the mean AOFAS score improved from 67 (range, 44-87) to 92 (range, 76-100) and the mean VAS score from 6.4 (range, 3-10) to 1.2 (range, 0-3). In the AI group the mean AOFAS score changed from 60 (range, 32-87) to 93 (range, 76-100) and the mean VAS score from 6.1 (range, 4-10) to 0.8 (range, 0-3). At the final follow-up 8 complications (40%) were recorded in the AB group. In the AI group 1 complication (5.3%) was observed (P < .05). CONCLUSION Both the AB and AI techniques are suitable surgical options to treat chronic ankle instability providing excellent clinical results. However, the AB had a higher overall complication rate than the AI group, particularly involving a painful restriction of ankle plantarflexion and neuritis of the superficial peroneal nerve.
