Abstract
Background Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) is used as a treatment to reduce the complaints of overactive bladder (OAB). Although it is rewarding therapy patients need maintenance treatment to preserve the beneficial effect. Aim This real‐life retrospective study was performed to assess the feasibility of PTNS adherence. Materials & methods All patients who underwent PTNS were retrospectively included. We analyzed the following: indication, kind of treatments (pharmacologic and third‐line therapy) before and after PTNS treatment, time and reason for quitting therapy. Statistical analysis was done by performing competitive‐risk analysis and Kaplan‐Meier curves. Patients were categorized into four groups. Group 1: all patients; group 2: all patients on maintenance PTNS therapy (continuing after 12 weeks); group 3: patients on maintenance PTNS therapy excluding the following: (a) patients with initial good response who seized treatment due to death, (b) patient who successfully switched to transcutaneous stimulation, (c) patients who were cured of their OAB symptoms, or (d) patients who relocated; and group 4: group 3 but excluding those who stopped treatment because of nonmedical reasons (physical strain, inconveniencies associated with visiting the hospital). Results Four‐hundred two patients (70% female) with a median age of 70 years underwent PTNS. Underlying treatment indications were: OAB‐wet (54%) and OAB‐dry (29%). The median follow‐up (FU) of group 1 was 4 months. Fifty‐seven percent (N = 228) of the patients received maintenance PTNS therapy. Median FU in group 4 was 46 months (range, 3‐111 months). Over 40% of the maintenance patients stopped PTNS because of logistic reasons and physical strain during an FU time of 6 years. Conclusion The real‐world data described here with is in line with earlier published work in terms of the success rate of OAB treatment. However, over 40% quit their therapy due to nonmedical reasons.

Abstract
RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a eficácia dos exercícios perineais, da eletroestimulação transcutânea do nervo tibial posterior (ETNTP) e da oxibutinina em mulheres com síndrome da bexiga hiperativa, que é a segunda causa mais comum de incontinência urinária, com sintomas urinários extremamente incômodos que prejudicam a qualidade de vida. Foram randomizadas 65 mulheres, das quais 57 completaram o tratamento. Formaram-se três grupos: o de exercícios perineais, ETNTP e o grupo controle, que utilizou oxibutinina. Os exercícios foram realizados em grupo, nas posições em pé, supino e sentado, duas vezes por semana, com duração de 30 minutos cada sessão, totalizando 12 sessões. Na ETNTP utilizou-se eletrodo transcutâneo posicionado em maléolo medial e outro 10cm acima, com frequência de 10Hz e largura de pulso de 200 microssegundos, por 30 minutos, duas vezes por semana, totalizando 12 sessões. Na medicação as pacientes receberam oxibutinina de 10mg/dia de liberação imediata divididos e duas doses de 5mg/dia, durante 12 semanas consecutivas. Antes e depois dos tratamentos, as pacientes passaram por uma avaliação composta pela análise do diário miccional, avaliação funcional do assoalho pélvico e aplicação de questionário de qualidade de vida OAB-V8. Houve redução da incontinência de urgência em 50%, 70,5% e 41% nos grupos de exercício, ETNTP e oxibutinina, respectivamente, com significância estatística somente da eletroestimulação. As três modalidades de tratamento foram eficazes na melhora da qualidade de vida para a terapêutica em curto prazo, estatisticamente semelhantes entre si.

Abstract
PURPOSE Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation is a minimally invasive neuromodulation technique for treating overactive bladder symptoms. The aim of this study was to assess safety, efficacy and impact on quality of life of percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation in neurological patients reporting overactive bladder symptoms. METHODS In this retrospective evaluation over 18 months at a tertiary healthcare centre, patients finding first-line treatments for overactive bladder ineffective or intolerable underwent a standard 12-week course of percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (Urgent PC, Uroplasty). Symptoms were evaluated using standardised International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaires and bladder diaries. RESULTS Of 74 patients (52 women, 22 men, mean age 56 years), 49 (66.2%) patients had neurological disorder [19 (25.7%) multiple sclerosis and 30 (40.5%) other neurological conditions] and 25 (33.8%) idiopathic overactive bladder. Overall for the entire cohort significant improvements were recorded after 12 weeks in the following domains: 24-h frequency on bladder diary - 1.67 (- 3.0, 0.33) (p = 0.002), number of incontinent episodes on bladder diary - 0.0 (- 1, 0) (p = 0.01), incontinence severity on bladder diary 0 (- 0.33, 0) (p = 0.007), OAB symptoms - 3 (- 11.5, 5) (p = 0.01), and quality of life - 16 (- 57, 6.5) (p = 0.004). There were no significant differences in outcomes between patients with idiopathic and neurogenic overactive bladder. CONCLUSIONS Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation appears to be a possible promising alternative for patients with neurological disorder reporting overactive bladder symptoms who find first-line treatments either ineffective or intolerable. However, a properly designed study is required to address safety and efficacy.

Abstract
Overactive bladder (OAB) is a common condition that is experienced by around 455 million people (11% of the world population) and associated with significant impact in patients’ quality of life. The first line treatments of OAB are conservative treatment and anti-muscarinic medication. For the refractory OAB patients, the treatment options available are surgical therapy, electrical stimulation, and botulinum toxin injection. Among them, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) is a minimally invasive option that aims to stimulate sacral nerve plexus, a group of nerve that is responsible for regulation of bladder function. After its approval by food and drug administration (FDA) in 2007, PTNS revealed considerable promise in OAB management. In this review, several non-comparative and comparative studies comparing PTNS with sham procedure, anti-muscarinic therapy, and multimodal therapy combining PTNS and anti-muscarinic had supportive data to this consideration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several options exist for managing overactive bladder (OAB), including electrical stimulation (ES) with non-implanted devices, conservative treatment and drugs. Electrical stimulation with non-implanted devices aims to inhibit contractions of the detrusor muscle, potentially reducing urinary frequency and urgency. OBJECTIVES To assess the effects of ES with non-implanted electrodes for OAB, with or without urgency urinary incontinence, compared with: placebo or any other active treatment; ES added to another intervention compared with the other intervention alone; different methods of ES compared with each other. SEARCH METHODS We searched the Cochrane Incontinence Specialised Register, which contains trials identified from the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, MEDLINE In-Process, ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO ICTRP and handsearching of journals and conference proceedings (searched 10 December 2015). We searched the reference lists of relevant articles and contacted specialists in the field. We imposed no language restrictions. SELECTION CRITERIA We included randomised or quasi-randomised controlled trials of ES with non-implanted devices compared with any other treatment for OAB in adults. Eligible trials included adults with OAB with or without urgency urinary incontinence (UUI). Trials whose participants had stress urinary incontinence (SUI) were excluded. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS Two review authors independently screened search results, extracted data from eligible trials and assessed risk of bias, using the Cochrane 'Risk of bias' tool. MAIN RESULTS We identified 63 eligible trials (4424 randomised participants). Forty-four trials did not report the primary outcomes of perception of cure or improvement in OAB. The majority of trials were deemed to be at low or unclear risk of selection and attrition bias and unclear risk of performance and detection bias. Lack of clarity with regard to risk of bias was largely due to poor reporting.For perception of improvement in OAB symptoms, moderate-quality evidence indicated that ES was better than pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) (risk ratio (RR) 1.60, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.19 to 2.14; n = 195), drug treatment (RR 1.20, 95% 1.04 to 1.38; n = 439). and placebo or sham treatment (RR 2.26, 95% CI 1.85 to 2.77, n = 677) but it was unclear if ES was more effective than placebo/sham for urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) (RR 5.03, 95% CI 0.28 to 89.88; n = 242). Drug treatments included in the trials were oestrogen cream, oxybutynin, propantheline bromide, probanthine, solifenacin succinate, terodiline, tolterodine and trospium chloride.Low- or very low-quality evidence suggested no evidence of a difference in perception of improvement of UUI when ES was compared to PFMT with or without biofeedback.Low- quality evidence indicated that OAB symptoms were more likely to improve with ES than with no active treatment (RR 1.85, 95% CI 1.34 to 2.55; n = 121).Low- quality evidence suggested participants receiving ES plus PFMT, compared to those receiving PFMT only, were more than twice as likely to report improvement in UUI (RR 2.82, 95% CI 1.44 to 5.52; n = 51).There was inconclusive evidence, which was either low- or very low-quality, for OAB-related quality of life when ES was compared to no active treatment, placebo/sham or biofeedback-assisted PFMT, or when ES was added to PFMT compared to PFMT-only. There was very low-quality evidence from a single trial to suggest that ES may be better than PFMT in terms of OAB-related quality of life.There was a lower risk of adverse effects with ES than tolterodine (RR 0.12, 95% CI 0.05 to 0.27; n = 200) (moderate-quality evidence) and oxybutynin (RR 0.11, 95% CI 0.01 to 0.84; n = 79) (low-quality evidence).Due to the very low-quality evidence available, we could not be certain whether there were fewer adverse effects with ES compared to placebo/sham treatment, magnetic stimulation or solifenacin succinate. We were also very uncertain whether adding ES to PFMT or to drug therapy resulted in fewer adverse effects than PFMT or drug therapy alone Nor could we tell if there was any difference in risk of adverse effects between different types of ES.There was insufficient evidence to determine if one type of ES was more effective than another or if the benefits of ES persisted after the active treatment period stopped. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS Electrical stimulation shows promise in treating OAB, compared to no active treatment, placebo/sham treatment, PFMT and drug treatment. It is possible that adding ES to other treatments such as PFMT may be beneficial. However, the low quality of the evidence base overall means that we cannot have full confidence in these conclusions until adequately powered trials have been carried out, measuring subjective outcomes and adverse effects.

MAIN RESULTS We identified 51 eligible trials (3443 randomised participants). Thirty-three trials did not report the primary outcomes of subjective change in OAB symptoms. The majority of trials were deemed to be at low or unclear risk of selection and attrition bias and unclear risk of performance and detection bias. Lack of clarity with regard to risk of bias was largely due to poor reporting.Twenty-three trials (1654 participants) compared ES with no active treatment, placebo or sham treatment. Moderate-quality evidence indicated that OAB symptoms were more likely to improve in people receiving ES than with no active treatment, placebo or sham treatment (relative risk (RR) for no improvement 0.54, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.47 to 0.63). Moderate-quality evidence indicated that similar numbers of people receiving ES and no active treatment, placebo or sham treatment experienced adverse effects.Eight trials (542 participants) compared ES with conservative treatment. Very low-quality evidence suggested no evidence of a difference between ES and PFMT or PFMT plus biofeedback in OAB symptoms (RR for no improvement 0.79, 95% CI 0.51 to 1.21 and 0.97, 95% CI 0.60 to 1.57 respectively). There was no evidence of a difference between ES and conservative treatment with regard to adverse effects.Sixteen trials (894 participants) compared ES with drug treatment (probanthine, tolterodine, oxybutynin, propantheline bromide, solifenacin succinate, terodiline, trospium chloride, terodiline). Moderate-quality evidence indicated that OAB symptoms were more likely to improve with ES than drug treatment (RR for no improvement 0.66, 95% CI 0.48 to 0.90). Low-quality evidence suggested a greater risk of adverse effects with oxybutynin (RR 1.26, 95% CI 1.07 to 1.49) and with tolterodine (RR 1.51, 95% CI 1.21 to 1.89) than with ES. There was insufficient evidence of a difference between ES and trospium hydrochloride (RR 0.73, 95% CI 0.43 to 1.25).Eight trials (252 participants) compared ES combined with another treatment versus the other treatment alone, two trials (48 participants) compared ES plus conservative treatment with no active treatment, placebo or sham treatment and six trials (361 participants) compared different types of ES. None of these comparisons had sufficient evidence to indicate any differences between the treatment groups in terms of OAB or adverse effects.Moderate-quality evidence suggested that ES improved OAB-related quality of life more than no active treatment, placebo or sham treatment. There was insufficient evidence of any difference between ES and any other treatment with regard to quality of life.There was insufficient evidence to determine if the benefits of ES persisted after the active treatment period stopped. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS Electrical stimulation appeared to be more effective than both no treatment and drug treatment for OAB. There was insufficient evidence to determine if ES was more effective than conservative treatment or which type of ES was more effective. This review underlines the need to conduct well-designed trials in this field measuring subjective outcomes and adverse effects.

Abstract
Overactive bladder (OAB) is a common condition that can significantly impact on a patient’s quality of life. Treatments include conservative methods (patient education, lifestyle modifications, bladder retraining), pharmacotherapy (anticholinergics and adrenoreceptor agonists), intravesical botulinum toxin A injections and surgical strategies (including neuromodulation, augmentation cystoplasty and urinary diversion). There has been increased interest in neuromodulation over recent years and accumulating evidence for percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS). We have reviewed the currently available clinical evidence in a systematic, reproducible fashion. PTNS has been shown in randomised controlled studies (against sham/placebo and against anticholinergics) to be safe and effective in treating OAB. Cost effectiveness analyses for PTNS have shown mixed results depending on the length of follow-up. PTNS is a useful adjunct to therapy in OAB for patients who have failed conservative and pharmacotherapy. Further research is required to define its place in the OAB treatment algorithm.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of transcutaneous posterior tibial nerve stimulation (T.C. PTNS) versus extended release oxybutynin (E.R.O.) in patients with overactive bladder. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy female patients were randomized to receive either 10mg E.R.O. daily or T.C. PTNS, using a TENS machine program with the 20Hz, 200 cycles/s, and normal stimulation setting for two 30-min sessions, each week for a 12-week period. Pre-treatment and after the 12-week intervention, each patient completed a 3-day voiding diary and a self-report quality of life questionnaire (OAB-q). Statistical analysis was performed using Stata V12.1. RESULTS Sixty-four patients completed the treatment protocol. There were no significant differences between study groups in terms of age, body mass index, past hormone replacement therapy, smoking habits, menopause status, and parity. Prior to treatment, there were also no significant differences in the analysis of the 3-day voiding diary or in the OAB-q questionnaire results. Following the 12-week study, there was a statistically significant reduction in frequency of urination, urgency episodes, and urge incontinent episodes compared to pre-treatment values. However, there were no significant differences in these values between intervention groups after 12-weeks of therapy. There was a similar improvement in OAB-q scores in both treatment groups following therapy, and the T.C. PTNS group showed a statistically significant improvement over the E.R.O. in domain 2 of the OAB-q questionnaire. The other two domains showed similar improvement in both study groups. CONCLUSION T.C. PTNS and E.R.O. demonstrated similar improvements in subjects with OAB in a 12-week study.

Abstract
Background/Aims: Primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis is the most frequent (85%) type of enuresis in children. However, there is limited research on the effect of posterior tibial nerve stimulation on monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis in children. This study investigated the effect of posterior tibial nerve stimulation on primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis in children. Methods: This controlled exposure study was conducted using a pretest–posttest design between March and December 2014. Participants (n=80) were randomly distributed to two study groups (control and intervention) using block randomisation. Participants in the control group were given and instructed on how to use a bedwetting alarm in addition to medical treatment for 12 weeks, whereas participants in the intervention group received posterior tibial nerve stimulation in addition to medical treatment for 12 weeks. The frequency of nocturnal enuresis, maximum voided volume and quality of life were evaluated before and after treatment. Results: Comparative analysis between pre- and post-treatment data revealed significant differences in both groups across all measured variables (p<0.05), with significant improvements in all three outcome measures found in the intervention group. Post-treatment, the intervention group demonstrated decreased frequency of nocturnal enuresis and improved maximum voided volume and quality of life. Conclusions: Posterior tibial nerve stimulation is an effective and safe approach for the treatment of primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis and control of bedwetting in children.

Abstract
Background Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS) has been proposed for the treatment of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB), non-obstructive urinary retention (NOUR), neurogenic bladder, paediatric voiding dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain/painful bladder syndrome (CPP/PBS). Despite a number of publications produced in the last ten years, the role of PTNS in urinary tract dysfunctions remains unclear. A systematic review of the papers on PTNS has been performed with the aim to better clarify potentialities and limits of this technique in the treatment of OAB syndrome and in other above mentioned urological conditions. Methods A literature search using MEDLINE and ISI web was performed. Search terms used were “tibial nerve” and each of the already mentioned conditions, with no time limits. An evaluation of level of evidence for each paper was performed. Results PTNS was found to be effective in 37-100% of patients with OAB, in 41-100% of patients with NOUR and in up to 100% of patients with CPP/PBS, children with OAB/dysfunctional voiding and patients with neurogenic pathologies. No major complications have been reported. Randomized controlled trials are available only for OAB (4 studies) and CPP/PBS (2 studies). Level 1 evidence of PTNS efficacy for OAB is available. Promising results, to be confirmed by randomized controlled studies, have been obtained in the remaining indications considered. Conclusions PTNS is an effective and safe option to treat OAB patients. Further studies are needed to assess the role of PTNS in the remaining indications and to evaluate the long term durability of the treatment. Further research is needed to address several unanswered questions about PTNS.

Abstract
PURPOSE Recent studies showed that sacral nerve stimulation might be an effective treatment option for chronic anal fissure. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation as a noninvasive alternative treatment for chronic anal fissure by stimulating the sacral nerve in the ankle via the posterior tibial nerve. METHOD In this prospective study, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation was applied for 10 days in addition to conventional medical treatment in ten patients. Wexner's constipation score, visual analog scale for pain, quality of life (Short Form-36), Hamilton anxiety and depression scores, symptom relief, compliance, fissure healing, and side effects were evaluated before and after treatment (days 0, 5, and 10). RESULTS Ten patients (eight females/two males) with a mean age of 50.7 ± 18.5 years were enrolled in the study. Pain and bleeding resolved in all patients 2 days after the treatment, and mucosal healing was observed in six patients 10 days after the treatment. Wexner's constipation and visual analog scale scores for pain decreased significantly (p = 0.001 and p = 0.002, respectively). Hamilton anxiety and depression scores decreased as well (p = 0.001 and p = 0.01, respectively). Among Short Form-36 subscales, only mental health score increased significantly (p = 0.003). One patient underwent surgery at follow-up due to recurrence of symptoms, and rubber band ligation was applied to another patient who had internal hemorrhoidal rectal bleeding at the end of 10 days. CONCLUSIONS Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation application to the posterior tibial nerve has the potential to be an alternative treatment option for chronic anal fissure patients who seek noninvasive treatment modality.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS Electrical pudendal nerve stimulation (EPNS) was developed by combining the advantages of pudendal neuromodulation (PNM) and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) and incorporating the technique of deep insertion of long acupuncture needles. The purpose of this study is to show the long-term efficacy of EPNS in treating urgency-frequency syndrome (UFS) in women. METHODS One hundred and six consecutive female UFS patients were enrolled and treated with EPNS. Long acupuncture needles were deeply inserted into four sacral points and electrified to stimulate the pudendal nerves. Evaluation of therapeutic effects was based on a questionnaire (including questions on storage, voiding, and postmicturition symptoms). Patients with ≥50 % posttreatment symptom improvement were followed up for at least 60 months. RESULTS Complete resolution and ≥50 % improvement rate were 42.5 % and 85.8 %, respectively, in the 106 patients after a mean of 21.2 sessions of EPNS treatment. Of the 91 patients with ≥50 % posttreatment improvement, 62 (29 with complete resolution, 15 with marked improvement, and 18 with moderate improvement) were available for follow-up at 60-126 (mean 99.5; median 98) months after the end of EPNS treatment. Of these 62 patients, 35 maintained the posttreatment effect, 18 changed from better to complete resolution, and seven changed back to <50 % improvement; only four of whom changed to <25 % improvement. CONCLUSIONS EPNS combines the advantages of PNM (better effect) and PTNS (minimally invasive, easily applicable, and well tolerated) in treating UFS. It has a good long-term therapeutic effect on UFS in women.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) as a treatment for the overactive bladder (OAB) resistant to medical treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study included 60 patients, comprising 55 women (92%) and five men (8%) with a mean (SD) age of 41.4 (10.8) years, who presented to the Urology Department of Benha University Hospital from June 2010 to October 2012. All patients were assessed initially by taking a history, a physical examination, urine analysis, routine laboratory investigations, and a urodynamic evaluation in the form of flowmetry, cystometry, and a pressure-flow study in some cases. A voiding diary (daytime and night-time frequency, voiding volume, and leakage episodes) was completed by all patients, and all underwent 12 sessions of PTNS using a personal computer-based system, and were reassessed after the sixth session, at the end of the course, and at 3 and 6 months after the last session, using the same methods as in the baseline visit. RESULTS There was a statistically significant improvement in all the variables assessed. No infection or failure of the PTNS mechanism was detected while using the technique, but there were rare instances of minor bleeding and a temporary painful feeling at the insertion site. CONCLUSION PTNS is safe, and gives statistically significant improvements in the patient's assessment of OAB symptoms.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the effectiveness of posterior percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) in treating overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms by systematic review of the literature. METHODS Systematic literature search was carried out (up to April 2011) using relevant search terms in Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, CENTRAL, National Library for Health, MetaRegister of controlled trials, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and prospective studies were selected and then analyzed by two-independent reviewers. Meta-analysis was performed with random effects model using STATA 8 for non-randomized prospective studies and with Review Manager 5.1 for RCTs. RESULTS The studies report variable initial success rates (37-82%) for treating OAB symptoms with PTNS. Four randomized trials compared PTNS with Sham treatment showing a significant difference favoring PTNS [RR 7.02 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.69-29.17]. Two randomized trials compared PTNS with antimuscarinic medication with no significant difference in the change in bladder diary parameters between the treatments. Ten prospective non-randomized studies were included. The definitions of success were varied. The pooled subjective success rate was 61.4% (95% CI 57.5-71.8) and objective success rate was 60.6% (95% CI 49.2-74.7). CONCLUSION There is evidence of significant improvement in OAB symptoms using PTNS which is comparable to the effect of antimuscarinics but with a better side effect profile. The studies included in the review only considered short-term outcomes after initial treatment. In order to recommend PTNS as a practical treatment option, long-term data and health economic analysis are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This research is a prospective study which was designed to determine the effects of percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) therapy on the quality of life and sexual life of patients with chronic pelvic pain (CPP). METHODS The sample consisted of an experimental group (n = 12) and a control group (n = 12), in total 24 patients. The experimental group was treated with PTNS once a week (in total 12 sessions), while the control group received routine intervention. RESULTS The pain frequency and intensity in women who underwent PTNS decreased considerably. Women had less pain during sexual intercourse after PTNS. We determined in our study that PTNS improved the quality of life of women with CPP by decreasing the intensity of pain and contributed to a more comfortable performance of their daily activities. CONCLUSIONS PTNS is a type of treatment which contributes to the quality of life of women with CPP by decreasing the intensity of pain.

Abstract
AIM Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a possible alternative to sacral nerve stimulation because the neurophysiologic targets might be similar but the former method is non-invasive and cheaper. The aim of the study was to assess both symptom and quality of life (QoL) improvements in patients suffering from severe FI. METHODS Thirty two patients (M/F, 30/2; age, 61 +/- 13 years) were enrolled in a pilot trial because they suffered from a severe and stable FI (Cleveland Score14.5 +/- 2.8 [11-20]) for a long duration (95 +/- 91 months). TENS was delivered 20 min bis in die at home (Schwa Medico, P3). Assessment was realized at 1, 3, and 6 months with both semi-directive and self-administered questionnaires. Main endpoint was the quantified success rate after 1 month of follow-up. RESULTS Mean subjective improvement was 26 +/- 30%: 20 (63%) patients reported some degree of improvement and 10 (32%) at least a 25% improvement in fecal incontinence. The Cleveland score significantly decreased at 1 (11 +/- 4; p < 0.001), 3 (11 +/- 5; p < 0.001), and 6 (10 +/- 5; p < 0.001) months. All subscales of QoL were significantly improved after a 3-month period of stimulation. However, constipation score and number of pads did not change. There was no adverse event. CONCLUSION TENS provides slight improvement in FI. This justifies both neurophysiology assessment and randomized controlled studies before further diffusion of the technique.
