Theoretical investigations of the charge transfer properties of anthracene derivatives

Exploring the Effect of Electron Withdrawing Groups on Optoelectronic Properties of Pyrazole Derivatives as Efficient Donor and Acceptor Materials for Photovoltaic Devices

Multifunctional pyrazole derivative, i.e. 3-amino-1-(5-hydroxy-3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-benzo[f]chromene-2-carbonitrile (PBCC) has been synthesized and characterized. To shed light on various properties of interests, the ground state geometry was optimized by adopting Density Functional Theory (PBE/TZ2P). The effect of different functionals on the absorption wavelengths was studied by using Time-Domain DFT (TDDFT), e.g. GGA functional PBE, hybrid functionals B3LYP and PBE0, rang separated functionals CAM-B3LYP, LCY-PBE and CAMY-B3LYP, Dispersion Corrections PBE-D3 and B3LYP-D3. Among all these functionals PBE and PBE-D3 were found to be good choices which reproduced the absorption spectra of the PBCC. With the aim to enhance the electro-optical, charge transfer and photovoltaic properties, five new derivatives were designed by di-substituting the –F, –Cl, –Br, –COOH and –CN at benzochromene moiety. The electron injection barrier, band gap alignment and related calculated photovoltaic parameters revealed that PBCC and its newly designed derivatives would be proficient to be used in photovoltaic devices. These compounds can be used as donor materials in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with favorable type-II band alignment. Moreover, PBCC and most of its derivatives might also be good choice as efficient acceptors with poly(dithieno[3,2-b:2,3-d]pyrrole thiophene) (PDTPr-T) and donor materials with Phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) in organic solar cells.

Effect of donor strength of extended alkyl auxiliary groups on optoelectronic and charge transport properties of novel naphtha[2,1-b:6,5-b']difuran derivatives: simple yet effective strategy

The present study spotlights the designing of new derivatives of 2,7-bis (4-octylphenyl) naphtho [2,1-b:6,5-b'] difuran (C8-DPNDF) by substituting the alkyl groups (methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, and heptyl groups) at para position. Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) methods are employed to optimize the molecular structures in ground and first excited states, respectively. Several electro-optical properties including hole/electron reorganization energies (λh/λe), electron affinities (EAs), ionization potentials (IPs), molecular electrostatic potentials (MEP), and frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) have been evaluated. Furthermore their transfer integrals and intrinsic mobilities values have also been calculated. From this study, it is found that hole mobility of octyl containing derivative is raised to 4.69 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1). Moreover with attaching octyl group, hole transfer integral values have also been enhanced in newly designed derivatives. The balanced hole and electron reorganization energies, and improved transfer integrals lead to enhanced mobility in derivatives with octyl group, highlighting them as an efficient hole transfer material. Unlike the other electro-optical properties, the intrinsic hole mobility has increased because of transfer integral values of octyl containing derivative C8-DPNDF due to the dense and close crystal packing of C8-DPNDF. However, photostability of furan-based materials has not changed by increasing length of extended alkyl chain. Thus our present investigation highlights the importance of alkyl auxiliary groups that are often neglected/replaced with simple methyl group to save computation costs. Molecular conformational analysis, vibrational spectra, NBO, NLO analysis and molecular docking study of bis[(E)-anthranyl-9-acrylic]anhydride based on density functional theory calculations

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of bis[(E)-anthranyl-9-acrylic]anhydride were recorded and analyzed. The conformational behavior is also investigated. The vibrational wave numbers were calculated using density functional theory (DFT) quantum chemical calculations. The data obtained from wave number calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in Infrared and Raman spectra. Potential energy distribution was done using GAR2PED program. The geometrical parameters are compared with related structures. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using Natural Bonding Orbital (NBO) analysis. The Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) and Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital (LUMO) analysis are used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) was performed by the DFT method. The calculated first hyperpolarizability of the title compound is comparable with the reported values of similar derivatives and is 4.23 times that of the standard nonlinear optical (NLO) material urea and the title compound and its derivatives are an attractive object for future studies of nonlinear optical properties. To evaluate the in silico antitumor activity of the title compound molecular docking studies were carried out against protein Bcl-xL. The (1)H-NMR spectrum is also reported.

How does the increment of hetero-cyclic conjugated moieties affect electro-optical and charge transport properties of novel naphtha-difuran derivatives? A computational approach

We have investigated computationally the effects of π-conjugation extension on naphtha[2,1-b:6,5-b'] difuran (DPNDF); where we increase the number of fused NDF (central core) and furan rings in the parent molecule. The molecular structures of all analogues have been optimized at the ground (S0) and first excited (S1) states using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT), respectively. Then highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMOs), the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMOs), photophysical properties, adiabatic/vertical electron affinities (EAa)/(EAv), adiabatic/vertical ionization potentials (IPa)/(IPv), and hole/electron reorganization energies λh/λe have been investigated. The effect of NDF and furan rings on structural and electro-optical properties has also been studied. Our calculated reorganization energies of 1a, 1b, and 2c reveal them, materials with balanced hole/electron charge transport, whereas 2a and 2b are good hole-transport materials. By increasing the number of furan rings; the photostability was augmented in 2a, 2b, and 2c.

Influence of push–pull configuration on the electro-optical and charge transport properties of novel naphtho-difuran derivatives: a DFT study

By a push–pull strategy, highly efficient and photostable naphtho-difuran derivatives were designed to get improved intrinsic electron mobility (1.13 cm² V⁻¹ s⁻¹).
