Abstract
Bioderived materials have emerged as sustainable catalyst supports for several heterogeneous reactions owing to their naturally occurring hierarchal pore size distribution, high surface area, and thermal and chemical stability. We utilize sporopollenin exine capsules (SpECs), a carbon-rich byproduct of pollen grains, composed primarily of polymerized and cross-linked lipids, to synthesize carbon-encapsulated iron nanoparticles via evaporative precipitation and pyrolytic treatments. The composition and morphology of the macroparticles were influenced by the precursor iron acetate concentration. Most significantly, the formation of crystalline phases (Fe3C, α-Fe, and graphite) detected via X-ray diffraction spectroscopy showed a critical dependence on iron loading. Significantly, the characteristic morphology and structure of the SpECs were largely preserved after high-temperature pyrolysis. Analysis of Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, the D and G bands from Raman spectroscopy, and the relative ratio of the C=C to C-C bonding from high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy suggests that porosity, surface area, and degree of graphitization were easily tuned by varying the Fe loading. A mechanism for the formation of crystalline phases and meso-porosity during the pyrolysis process is also proposed. SpEC-Fe10% proved to be highly active and selective for the reverse water-gas shift reaction at high temperatures (>600 °C).

Abstract
Highly effective enrichment of endogenous phosphopeptides from complex biological samples is an essential and crucial theme in the analysis of phosphopeptidomics. Herein, an ordered mesoporous TiO2/C composite (denoted as Ti-MCM) was prepared by the pyrolysis of MIL-125 under a N2 atmosphere. The obtained Ti-MCM possesses a high specific surface area (165 m2 g-1), a uniform pore size (3.75 nm), and a large amount of Ti (46%). By utilizing the selective chelation between Ti-MCM and phosphopeptides, 25 phosphopeptides were detected in α-casein digest after enrichment. The material shows good selectivity even in the presence of 2000-fold excess of interference peptides. It was also used to enrich endogenous phosphopeptides from the complex samples of human serum and saliva and showed a good performance.

Liquid-Phase Deposition Synthesis of ZIF-67-Derived Synthesis of Co3O4@TiO2 Composite for Efficient Electrochemical Water Splitting. METALS 2021. [DOI: 10.3390/met11030420] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 2.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 12/22/2022]
Abstract
In this article, a novel Co3O4@TiO2 composite is synthesized by applying two-step methods. ZIF-67 is synthesized and used as a template for the synthesis of the composite. The composite is designed by using the effective photocatalytic properties of Co3O4 and TiO2. The resulting synthesized composite is supposed to offer superior properties compared to their counterparts. The synthesized Co3O4@TiO2 composite is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Brunauer–Emmet–Teller (BET), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Electrochemical water splitting, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) studies on the Co3O4@TiO2 composite, is evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) analysis in a 2M aqueous KOH electrolyte. The current generation stability of these samples is deliberated by chronoamperometric measurements. It is observed, from LSV results at a 1 mV/s scan rate, that metal oxides incorporated on other metal oxides have a higher current density and lower onset potential as compared to pure metal oxides. From the obtained results, it has become evident that synthesized studies on the Co3O4@TiO2 composite possess significant potential for electrochemical water splitting with the lowest onset potential, highest current density, better OER, and HER activity.
