Pleomorphic Adenoma of Nasal Septum a Case Report

Introduction

Pleomorphic adenoma is a common benign tumor of large and small salivary glands. It mainly occurs in the parotid gland, followed by the submandibular gland, sublingual gland and small salivary gland in the oral cavity. It is very rare in the nasal septum.

Patient Concerns

A 27-year-old female patient attended our clinic with Nasal congestion and a diminished sense of smell.

Diagnoses

Endoscopic examination revealed a mass within the right nasal passage. A pathological biopsy revealed pleomorphic adenoma.

Interventions

The nasal septum pleomorphic adenoma was resected by endoscopic approach.

Outcomes

No recurrence was observed for over 41 months of follow-up.

Conclusion

To prevent recurrence, extensive local resection with clear histological margins and long-term endoscopic follow-up with an endoscope are necessary.

An unusual presentation of pleomorphic adenoma in a patient with thalassemia: A case report

We report the first case of spontaneous infarction occurring in pleomorphic adenoma located in infratemporal fossa mimicking parapharyngeal abscess, including clinical presentation, workups, and surgical approach. The final diagnosis was confirmed on a histological basis. The combination of CT scan and MRI might be helpful in distinguishing neoplasia from abscess collection in this area. Surgical intervention is the treatment of choice.

Endoscopic Resection of Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Nasal Septum

Pleomorphic adenomas originating from the minor salivary glands are rare in the nasal cavity. Total surgical excision is the preferred treatment for pleomorphic adenomas. Lateral rhinotomy, midfacial degloving, transpalatal surgery and endoscopic surgery are among the surgical approaches. Endoscopic tumor removal produces less morbidity, reduces blood loss during surgery, decreases hospital stay, avoids external scars and excessive unnecessary resection, enables the surgeon to better visualize the tumor margins, and has a low recurrence rate. However, only 3 pleomorphic adenomas of the nasal septum have been removed by the endoscopic approach to date. In this paper we report on a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the nasal septum that was removed successfully by the endoscopic approach without any recurrences.

Pleomorphic adenoma originates from inferior nasal turbinate causing epiphora

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor of the salivary glands. A 62-year-old female patient presented with epiphora and was suffering from breathing difficulties. With the diagnostic nasal endoscopy, a mass, originating from right inferior nasal turbinate and filling the entire nasal cavity, was seen. Originating from the inferior nasal turbinate is a very rare entity. Paranasal sinus computed tomography and magnetic resonance images revealed a mass that fills and expands the right nasal cavity. Mass was hypoechoic in B-mode ultrasonography and hypovascular in color Doppler ultrasonography, and rate of tissue stiffness was high in sonoelastography. These were helpful for the diagnosis.

Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Nasal Cavity: A Case Report

Pleomorphic adenomas of the nasal cavity are rare. We describe the case of a middle-aged white man who presented to our clinic with a long history of unilateral nasal obstruction. Preoperative imaging was performed, and the patient was taken to the operating room for endoscopic excision of the lesion. Surgical margins were negative. The patient's nasal obstruction resolved, and he was doing well at his first postoperative visit. The pathologic diagnosis was a pleomorphic adenoma. We discuss the features and management of this entity.

Pleomorphic adenoma originated from the inferior nasal turbinate

Although pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign neoplasm of the salivary glands, it has also been reported to be present in the neck, ear, mediastinum, external nose and nasal cavity. Intranasal localization of this lesion is very rare and mainly originates from the nasal septum. From wherever the lesion originates, the main treatment modality should be surgical. We presented a very rare case of intranasal pleomorphic adenoma originated from the inferior nasal turbinate. Due to the expansile nature of the lesion, a midfacial degloving approach was preferred.
