Hemangioma Mimicking Left Atrial Mass in the Posterior Mediastinum

Primary hemangioma of the mediastinum is extremely rare. Herein, we present a unique case of hemangioma mimicking left atrial mass in the posterior mediastinum. We reviewed the literature and found 17 other hemangiomas in the posterior mediastinum. Herein, we summarize the age, gender, symptoms, diagnostic methods, image diagnosis, size, treatments, histologic features, outcomes, and follow-up of 17 cases. Most of the cases were asymptomatic and were accidentally detected in chest radiographs. Diagnostic methods mainly included chest X-ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All patients underwent surgical resection, recovered well, and had no recurrence during follow-up.

Posterior mediastinal arteriovenous malformation: A rare catch

An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a very rare differential diagnosis of a posterior Mediastinum mass. We report a patient with an AVM mimicking a mediastinal tumour and describe the radiological, pathological findings and the treatment options.

Posterior mediastinal capillary hemangioma misdiagnosed as neurofibromas: a rare case report and review of the literature

Capillary hemangioma is a common benign tumor which can occur everywhere in the whole body, however its occurrence in posterior mediastinum is extremely rare, and to the best of our knowledge less than 20 cases have been reported in the English literature so far. Here in we report a 65-year-old lady who presented with prolonged cough and diagnosed to have a posterior mediastinal mass. Before operation, according to the site of tumor, it has been diagnosed as neurofibroma. It is very important to consider hemangioma before operation to reduce surgical complications, and it should be in the differential diagnosis of posterior mediastinal masses.

Video-assisted technique for resection of a large mediastinal hemangioma

We present a video-assisted technique (VATS) for resection of a large tumor located in the posterior mediastinum in a 16-year-old patient. A large vascular mass in the upper and middle posterior mediastinum, encasing the great vessels and extending to the aorto-pulmonary window, was completely resected under video-assistance using a 5-cm large working incision. The tumor dissection was performed using special videoscopic instruments and electrocautery under respect of the great vessels and vascular pedicles. The VATS technique combined with specially designed endoscopical instruments is offering today the possibility of safe resection even in large mediastinal tumors, thus avoiding late functional complications and/or the morbidity associated with large thoracotomy incisions.

Mediastinal hemangioma and accompanying aortic arch anomaly

Hemangioma is a rare tumor of the mediastinum. There are a very small number of patients identified with a combination of mediastinal hemangioma and aortic arch anomaly in the medical literature review. Here we present a fatal case of a 2-month-old female infant having mediastinal hemangioma compressing the trachea accompanied by a right-sided aortic arch with an aberrant left subclavian artery.
