Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to describe B-mode and colour Doppler ultrasound (US) features of gastric lymphoma in cats. METHODS Cats with histopathological or cytological confirmation of gastric lymphoma that underwent abdominal US were included in this retrospective study. Clinical signs were recorded and radiographs reviewed when available. Gastric lesions were ultrasonographically evaluated for location, distribution, wall layering, echogenicity and thickness. Colour Doppler assessment was based on vessels, location and direction. RESULTS Forty-five cats were included. All presented with vomiting, 7/45 (15.5%) with haematemesis. Radiographs were available in 27/45 cases, and demonstrated a gastric mass in 19/27 (70.4%) cases. The most common US appearance was transmural wall thickening with absent layering 42/45 (93.3%) and hypoechogenicity 39/45 (86.7%). Median maximum thickness was 2.1 cm. Ulceration or erosion was suspected in 23/45 (51%) cases, two of which perforated. Colour Doppler images were available in 33/45 cases. The most common Doppler finding was transmural vessels coursing perpendicularly to the lumen in 14/33 (42.4%). Abdominal effusion was uncommon (n = 11/45; 24.4%). Regional lymphadenopathy was frequent, observed in 44/54 lymph nodes reviewed on US, and US suspicion of splenic, hepatic and intestinal lymphomatous infiltration was reported in 24/45 (53.3%) cases. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE The most common US appearance of gastric lymphoma was transmural hypoechoic segmental wall thickening with layering loss. Location and distribution were variable. Colour Doppler displayed increased blood supply with a predominant pattern of perpendicular vessels, possibly representing aberrant arteries originating from subserosal and submucosal plexus. Lymphomatous infiltration of lymph nodes and other abdominal organs was frequent, confirming local and distant aggressiveness of gastric lymphoma in cats. Vomiting and haematemesis were frequently associated with the suspicion of ulcer on US. Perforation was a rare occurrence.

[ 68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET for the evaluation of digestive system tumors: systematic review and meta-analysis. Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging 2023; 50:908-920. Abstract
PURPOSE Digestive system tumors are a group of tumors with high incidence in the world nowadays. The assessment of digestive system tumor metastasis by conventional imaging seems to be unsatisfactory. [68Ga]Ga-FAPI, which has emerged in recent years, seems to be able to evaluate digestive system tumor metastasis. We aimed to summarize the current evidence of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET/CT or PET/MR for the assessment of primary tumors, lymph node metastases, and distant metastases in digestive system tumors. Besides, we also aimed to perform a meta-analysis of the sensitivity of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET diagnosis to discriminate between digestive system tumors, primary lesions, and non-primary lesions (lymph node metastases and distant metastases). MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, MEDLINE and Cochrane Library databases were searched from the beginning of the database build to August 12, 2022. All studies undergoing [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET for the evaluation of digestive tumors were included in the screening and review. Screening and full text review was performed by 3 investigators and data extraction was performed by 2 investigators. Risk of bias was examined with the QUADAS-2 criteria. Diagnostic test meta-analysis was performed with a random-effects model. RESULTS A total of 541 studies were retrieved. Finally, 22 studies were selected for the systematic review and 18 studies were included in the meta-analysis. In the 18 publications, a total of 524 patients with digestive system tumors, 459 primary tumor lesions of digestive system tumors, and 1921 metastatic lesions of digestive system tumors were included in the meta-analysis. Based on patients, the sensitivity of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET for the diagnosis of digestive system tumors was 0.98 (95% CI: 0.94-0.99). Based on lesions, the sensitivity of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET for the diagnostic evaluation of primary tumor lesions of the digestive system was 0.97 (95% CI: 0.93-0.99); the sensitivity of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET for the diagnostic evaluation of non-primary lesions (lymph node metastases and distant metastases) of the digestive system tumors was 0.94 (95% CI: 0.79-0.99). CONCLUSION [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET has high accuracy and its sensitivity is at a high level for the diagnostic evaluation of digestive system tumors. Clinicians, nuclear medicine physicians, and radiologists may consider using [68Ga]Ga-FAPI PET/CT or PET/MR in the evaluation of primary tumors, lymph node metastases, and distant metastases in digestive system tumors.

Abstract
Tumor vascular perfusion pattern in gastric cancer (GC) may be an important prognostic factor with therapeutic implications. Non-invasive methods such as dynamic contrast harmonic imaging endoscopic ultrasound (CHI-EUS) may provide details about tumor perfusion and could also lay out another perspective for angiogenesis assessment. Methods: We included 34 patients with GC, adenocarcinoma, with CHI-EUS examinations that were performed before any treatment decision. We analyzed eighty video sequences with a dedicated software for quantitative analysis of the vascular patterns of specific regions of interest (ROI). As a result, time-intensity curve (TIC) along with other derived parameters were automatically generated: peak enhancement (PE), rise time (RT), time to peak (TTP), wash-in perfusion index (WiPI), ROI area, and others. We performed CD105 and CD31 immunostaining to calculate the vascular diameter (vd) and the microvascular density (MVD), and the results were compared with CHI-EUS parameters. Results: High statistical correlations (p < 0.05) were observed between TIC analysis parameters MVD and vd CD31. Strong correlations were also found between tumor grade and 7 CHI-EUS parameters, p < 0.005. Conclusions: GC angiogenesis assessment by CHI-EUS is feasible and may be considered for future studies based on TIC analysis.

Abstract
Simple Summary Canine gastric disorders are common in veterinary clinical practice and among these neoplasms require rapid identification and characterization. Standard ultrasonography is the imaging modality of choice for gastric wall assessment. The aim of this prospective study is to describe the specific B-mode and contrast enhanced ultrasound features of normal, inflammatory, and neoplastic gastric diseases in dogs. Standard and contrast enhanced ultrasound of the stomach were performed in anesthetized dogs with or without gastric disorders. Gastric wall qualitative and quantitative parameters were evaluated. A total of 41 dogs were included: 6 healthy as the control group; 9 gastritis; 8 adenocarcinoma; 8 alimentary lymphoma; 4 leiomyosarcoma; 2 gastrointestinal stromal tumor; 2 leiomyoma; 1 undifferentiated sarcoma; 1 metastatic gastric hemangiosarcoma. Gastric tumors appear as a marked thickening with absent layers definition and possible regional lymphadenopathy and steatitis while gastritis generally shows no/mild thickening and no other alterations on standard ultrasound. During contrast—enhanced ultrasonography, neoplasms show a higher and faster wash in if compared to that of gastritis. B-mode and contrast enhanced ultrasound assessment may be useful in the evaluation of canine gastric disorders for the distinction between gastritis and gastric neoplasms, even if there are no specific aspects able to discriminate between different tumors types. Abstract
Simple Summary Alimentary lymphoma is the most common neoplasm of the feline gastrointestinal tract. In most cases, standard ultrasonography may not be able to discriminate between a neoplastic and inflammatory infiltrate at this level. The aim of this prospective study is to establish the value of conventional ultrasound and contrast enhanced ultrasonography in describing specific features of normal, inflammatory, and neoplastic gastric diseases in feline species. A total of 29 cats were included in the study: six healthy cats as the control group; nine with gastric inflammation; three with low-grade alimentary lymphoma; 10 with high grade alimentary lymphoma. High-grade lymphoma usually appears as a severe wall thickening with absent layer definition, regional lymphadenopathy and local steatitis on a conventional ultrasound and shows a high-contrast uptake and a homogeneous enhancement with comb teeth-like vessels on contrast-enhanced ultrasound, while gastric inflammation and low-grade alimentary lymphoma showed a large overlap on both of those two ultrasonographic techniques. Diagnostic accuracy and cut-off value were calculated and found to be relevant for thickness (3.8 mm) for inflammation vs. low-grade lymphoma and “benign” vs. “malignant” as well as peak enhancement (34.87 dB) for “benign” vs. “malignant”. Thickness and peak enhancement can be useful parameters in the characterization of gastric infiltrates in cats. Abstract Alimentary lymphoma (AL) is the most common malignancy of the feline gastrointestinal tract and may cause variable mild to severe alteration of the gastric wall on ultrasonography (US) that can be very similar to those caused by inflammation (INF). The aim of this prospective study is to establish the value of B-mode and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) in describing specific features of normal, inflammatory, and neoplastic gastric diseases in feline species. B-mode US and CEUS of the stomach were performed in anesthetized cats with or without gastric disorders. Gastric wall qualitative and quantitative parameters were evaluated on B-mode US and CEUS examination. A total of 29 cats were included: six healthy (HEA) cats as the control group; nine INF; three low-grade lymphoma (LGAL); 10 high-grade lymphoma (HGAL). On B-mode US, there were significant differences in thickness, the wall’s layer definition and echogenicity between HGAL and all the other groups (<0.001). For CEUS, statistical differences between groups were found in the following: HGAL vs. HEA, HGAL vs. INF; HGAL vs. LGAL; INF vs. HEA. Diagnostic accuracy (AUC) and cut-off value were calculated and found to be significant for thickness (3.8 mm) for INF vs. LGAL (AUC > 0.70) and “benign” vs. “malignant” (AUC > 0.90) as well as peak enhancement (34.87 dB) for “benign” vs. “malignant” (AUC > 0.70). INF and LGAL showed an overlap of qualitative and quantitative parameters both on B-mode and CEUS, while HGAL usually appears as a severe wall thickening with absent layer definition, high-contrast uptake, a specific enhancement pattern, regional lymphadenopathy and local steatitis. Thickness and peak enhancement can be useful parameters in the characterization of gastric infiltrates in cats.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to compare the sensitivity and specificity of double contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in the preoperative tumor staging of gastric cancer (GC) to stratify patients for suitable treatment. METHODS Fifty-four patients with GC proved by histologic findings were included. The sensitivity and specificity of double CEUS and MDCT for tumor staging were calculated and compared. The differences between these methods were evaluated by using the area under the curve (AUC) from a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS There were no significant differences in AUC values for T1 and T2 stages between double CEUS and MDCT (P = .190 and .256, respectively). However, the sensitivity of double CEUS in the detection of the T1 stage was higher than that of MDCT (88% versus 75%). The AUC values of MDCT for T3 and T4 stages were 0.833 and 0.905, which were both significantly higher than those of double CEUS (0.759 and 0.696; P < .05). The sensitivities of double CEUS and MDCT for the T3 stage were both 89%, but the accuracy and specificity of double CEUS were lower than those of MDCT (76% versus 83% and 63% versus 78%). The specificities of double CEUS and MDCT for the T4 stage were both 98%, but the accuracy and sensitivity of double CEUS were lower than those of MDCT (85% versus 94% and 42% versus 83%). CONCLUSIONS Multidetector CT is superior to double CEUS for T3 and T4 GC, and double CEUS may be regarded as an important complementary method to MDCT.

Abstract
Objective To assess the relationship between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) parameters and perfusion CT (PCT) parameters of gastric cancers and their correlation with histologic features. Materials and Methods This prospective study was approved by our Institutional Review Board. We included 43 patients with pathologically-proven gastric cancers undergoing CEUS using SonoVue® (Bracco) and PCT on the same day. Correlation between the CEUS parameters (peak intensity [PI], area under the curve [AUC], rise time [RT] from 10% to 90% of PI, time to peak [TTPUS], and mean transit time [MTTUS]) and PCT parameters (blood flow, blood volume, TTPCT, MTTCT, and permeability surface product) of gastric cancers were analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation test. In cases of surgical resection, the CEUS and PCT parameters were compared according to histologic features using Mann-Whitney test. Results CEUS studies were of diagnostic quality in 88.4% (38/43) of patients. Among the CEUS parameters of gastric cancers, RT and TTPUS showed significant positive correlations with TTPCT (rho = 0.327 and 0.374, p = 0.045 and 0.021, respectively); PI and AUC were significantly higher in well-differentiated or moderately-differentiated tumors (n = 4) than poorly-differentiated tumors (n = 18) (p = 0.026 and 0.033, respectively), whereas MTTCT showed significant differences according to histologic types (poorly cohesive carcinoma [PCC] vs. non-PCC), T-staging (≤ T2 vs. ≥ T3), N-staging (N0 vs. N-positive), and epidermal growth factor receptor expression (≤ faint vs. ≥ moderate staining) (p values < 0.05). Conclusion In patients with gastric cancers, CEUS is technically feasible for the quantification of tumor perfusion and may provide correlative and complementary information to that of PCT, which may allow prediction of histologic features.

Abstract
The incidence of gastric cancer (GC) is extremely high in East Asia. GC is also one of the most common and lethal forms of cancer from a global perspective. However, to date, we have not been able to determine one or several genes as biomarkers in the diagnosis of GC and have also been unable to identify the genes which are important in the therapy of GC. In this study, we analyzed all genome-wide expression profiling arrays uploaded onto the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to filtrate the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between normal stomach tissues and GC tissues. GSE13911, GSE19826 and GSE79973 were based on the GPL570 platform, and GSE29272 was based on the GPL96 platform. We screened out the DEGs from the two platforms and by selecting the intersection of these two platforms, we identified the common DEGs in the sequencing data from different laboratories. Finally, we obtained 3 upregulated and 34 downregulated DEGs in GC from 384 samples. As the number of downregulated DEGs was greater than that of the upregulated DEGs, functional analysis and pathway enrichment analysis were performed on the downregulated DEGs. Through our analysis, we identified the most significant genes associated with GC, such as secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1), sulfatase 1 (SULF1), thrombospondin 2 (THBS2), ATPase H+/K+ transporting beta subunit (ATP4B), gastric intrinsic factor (GIF) and gastrokine 1 (GKN1). The prognostic power of these genes was corroborated in the Oncomine database and by Kaplan-Meier plotter (KM-plotter) analysis. Moreover, gastric acid secretion, collecting duct acid secretion, nitrogen metabolism and drug metabolism were significantly related to GC. Thus, these genes and pathways may be potential targets for improving the diagnosis and clinical effects in patients with GC.
