Efficacy of Gefitinib Combined with 125I Radioactive Particles in the Treatment of Transplanted Lung Cancer Tumors in Nude Mice

Analysis on the Efficacy of Bronchial Artery Chemoembolization Combined with 125I Seed Implantation in the Therapy of Advanced Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Based on the Medical Database

Objective

To investigate the use and the efficacy of bronchial artery chemoembolization combined with 125I seed implantation in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) therapy based on the medical database.

Methods

A total of 102 patients with advanced NSCLC were randomly divided into two groups. The control group was treated with 125I seed implantation, and the observation group was treated with bronchial artery chemoembolization (BACE) combined with 125I seed implantation based on medical database. The clinical efficacy, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA21-1), glycan antigen 125 (CA125), peripheral blood CD3+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+ T cells, insulin-like growth factor type 1 receptor (IGF-1R), S100 calcium-binding protein A2 (S100A2), long-term efficacy (time to disease progression, six-month survival rate, and one-year survival rate), and safety were then analyzed.

Result

The disease remission rate in the observation group was 62.75%, which was higher than that in the control group (41.18%). After 1 month and 3 months of treatment, the levels of serum CYFRA21-1, CEA, CA125, and IGF-1R were lower, while serum S100A2 was higher in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). For safety assessment, we found that the incidences of neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and gastrointestinal reactions had no statistical differences between two groups. The time to disease progression in the observation group was 129.85 d longer than that in the control group, 89.74 d, and the six-month survival rate and 1-year survival rate were higher in the observation group relative to the control group.

Conclusion

Medical database-based BACE combined with 125I seed implantation in the therapy of advanced NSCLC patients has definite efficacy with certain safety, which can enhance antitumor effect and prolong survival rate in advanced NSCLC patients.

Low-activity 125I implantation into VX2 tumor rabbits and quantitative evaluation of the precise therapeutic effect

There is still controversy about quantitatively evaluating the therapeutic effect of radioactive low-activity iodine-125 seeds (¹²⁵I seeds). In the present study, a paired VX₂ tumor model in a rabbit hind leg muscle was established, which is virus-induced anaplastic squamous cell carcinoma characterized by hypervascularity, rapid growth and easy propagation in the skeletal muscle. ¹²⁵I seeds with 0.4 and 0.7 mCi activity were implanted into the left and right legs, respectively, using a radiation treatment planning system under positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) guidance. PET/CT scans and hematoxylin and eosin staining were observed at 72 h and 2 and 4 weeks after implantation to assess the therapeutic effect. The results showed that the average tumor length and standard uptake value (SUV) decreased over time, and both ¹²⁵I seed groups achieved therapeutic effects at 4 weeks post-implantation. Quantitative evaluation of tumor inhibition rate, SUV variation and tumor marker ratio (Bcl-2/Bax) suggested that 0.7 mCi ¹²⁵I seeds were more suitable than 0.4 mCi seeds in a clinical setting.

Lentinan Combined with (125)I Brachytherapy for Recurrent Ovarian Cancer

Objective

To investigate the clinical value of lentinan combined with (125)I brachytherapy in the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer.

Methods

A total of 160 patients with recurrent ovarian cancer admitted at Jiaozhou Central Hospital from June 2009 to October 2015 were enrolled in this study and randomly divided into observation group (80 cases) and control group (80 cases). The control group received chemotherapy. Observation group (80 cases) was treated with lentinan combined with (125)I brachytherapy on the basis of control group, and the efficacy, adverse reactions, and Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) and quality of life scale (QOL) scores of the two groups were analyzed and compared.

Results

After treatment, the levels of CA125, CA199, and CA724 in the 2 groups were markedly lower than those before treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the proportion of CD4⁺/CD8⁺ cells and helper T cells and NK cells in the control group remarkably depleted, while the proportion of CD4⁺/CD8⁺ cells, NK cells, and B cells in the observation group increased significantly compared to that before treatment, and the level of IgA, IgG, and IgM in the control group decreased, while that in the observation group showed no conspicuous difference compared with that before chemotherapy (P > 0.05). The effective rate of observation group (85%) was higher than that of control group (75%) (P < 0.05). The overall survival of patients in the control group was (16.2 ± 2.04) months and that of the observation group was (24.8 ± 1.8) months. KPS and QOL scores in both groups were enormously higher than those before treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group (P < 0.05). The incidence of hemoglobin reduction, leukopenia, aglobulia, granulocytopenia, nausea and vomiting, hepatorenal toxicity, and neurovirulence in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group.

Conclusion

Lentinan combined with (125)I brachytherapy is effective in treating recurrent ovarian cancer, with mild adverse reactions and good tolerance.
