Abstract
PURPOSE Ultrasound is becoming an essential tool for hand surgeons, but most of them are trained on the job, without any diploma or dedicated training. The aim of this study was to assess the ability of hand surgeons new to ultrasound to identify hand and wrist anatomical structures. METHODS A monocentric study was conducted from January 2022 to April 2022. Ten residents and five attending hand surgeons, ultrasound novices, were involved in this study. The participants underwent two tests, wherein they were required to identify 17 anatomical structures using ultrasound, on the same subject. The second test was similar and carried out 2 to 6 weeks later by all participants. The number of structures successfully identified and if it was the case, the detection time per structure, were recorded. The correlations between participants age, years of surgical experience, surgical background (orthopedic or plastic) and the ability to perform immediately during the first test or to progress between the two tests were also assessed. RESULTS The average number of structures identified during the first test (T1) was 14.1+/-2.1 (82.9%), versus 16.2+/-0.8 (95.3%) structures during the second test (T2) (p = 0.001). The mean detection time per structure was 53.4 +/- 18.9 s during T1 versus 27.7 +/- 7.2 s during T2 (p < 0.0001). A moderate negative correlation between the progression in the number of anatomical structures identified between the two tests and the years of surgical experience (ρ=-0.56; p = 0.029) was found. The other parameters were neither correlated with the ability to perform at the first test nor with the progression between the two tests. CONCLUSION Hand surgeons new to ultrasound are most of the time able to identify hand and wrist anatomical structures. Comparison of their first and second tests showed significant potential for improvement in anatomical structure identification and detection time of those, especially in surgeons with limited surgical experience.

Abstract
Ultrasound elastography is a recently developed method for accurate measurement of soft tissue stiffness in addition to the clinician's subjective evaluation. The present review briefly describes the ultrasound elastography techniques and outlines clinical applications for tendon, muscle, nerve, skin and other soft tissues of the hand and upper limb. Strain elastography provides a qualitative evaluation of the stiffness, and shear-wave elastography generates quantitative elastograms superimposed on a B-mode image. The stiffness in degenerative tendinopathy and/or tendon injury was significantly lower than in a normal tendon in several studies. Elastography is also a reliable method to evaluate functional muscle activity, compared to conventional surface electromyography. The median nerve is consistently stiffer in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome than in healthy subjects, on whatever ultrasound elastography technique. Elastography distinguishes normal skin from scars and can be used to evaluate scar severity and treatment. Elastography has huge clinical applications in musculoskeletal tissues. Continued development of systems and increased training of clinicians will expand our knowledge of elastography and its clinical applications in the future.

Abstract
The flexor carpi radialis brevis (FCRB) is a very rare anomalous muscle that is usually asymptomatic but may cause various pathologies, such as radial-sided wrist pain. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of FCRB in the Turkish population, its location, and sex differences. Forearm, wrist, and hand magnetic resonance images of 849 individuals aged 18-65 years were retrospectively evaluated in this study. The survey found an FCRB prevalence of 4%, with a prevalence of 3.6% among women and of 4.7% among men. However, the difference between the sexes was not statistically significant (p = 0.629). The origin of all 34 FCRBs identified was the distal third of the anterior aspect of the radius; the insertion site of 28 was the second metacarpal bone, whereas that of the remaining 6 was the os trapezium. In conclusion, the data of this study report the prevalence of FCRB for the first time in the Turkish population, which will contribute to radiological and surgical evaluations in the region and help in early and accurate diagnosis of various pathological conditions that may be caused by FCRB.
