Abstract
Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is a type of marginal zone B-cell lymphoma that occurs outside the lymph nodes in mucosal tissue. It accounts for 6-8 % of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. MALT lymphoma of the salivary gland is a rare disease, with primary tumors in the salivary gland accounting for 2-5 % of salivary gland tumors. The most common site is the parotid gland (80 %), followed by the submandibular gland (14 %), minor salivary glands, and sublingual gland (5 %). Patients with salivary gland MALT lymphoma often have autoimmune diseases such as Sjogren's syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis. Primary malignant tumors of the sublingual gland account for less than 1 % of cases, and preoperative diagnosis is difficult, often requiring biopsy for confirmation. To our knowledge, there are no reports of MALT lymphoma arising from the sublingual gland. We report a case of MALT lymphoma originating from the sublingual gland in a patient with a history of hypertension, diabetes, cerebral infarction, and non-traumatic numbness of the right lower limb.

Abstract
A 4-year and 10-month old female Pembroke Welsh Corgi presented with an enlarged right popliteal lymph node, and a histopathological diagnosis of nodal marginal zone lymphoma (nMZL) was made. After resection of the lymph node, follow-up observation was continued without chemotherapy. At 22 months after initial presentation, the dog developed enlargement of peripheral lymph nodes, and the histopathological diagnosis was late-stage nMZL. Multidrug chemotherapy induced clinical complete remission, but the tumor relapsed with enlargement of peripheral and abdominal lymph nodes 42 months after initial presentation. Second-round multidrug chemotherapy induced complete clinical remission again; however, the tumor relapsed with lymphadenopathy 47 months after initial presentation. The dog died 59 months after initial presentation, and postmortem examination revealed generalized lymphadenopathy; the histopathological diagnosis was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Polymerase chain reaction for antigen receptor gene rearrangements revealed that the nMZL and DLBCL samples were derived from the same B-lymphocyte clone.

Abstract
Background Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) development in Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) remains a potentially lethal complication and efforts should focus on the identification of predictors that could aid in appropriate therapeutic decisions. Methods In order to identify potential prognostic factors for outcome in SS-associated NHL, we retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 77 patients, diagnosed with NHL according to WHO classification criteria and meeting the American-European Consensus Classification (AECC) criteria for SS and examined the effect of SS-activity (defined as the EULAR SS disease activity index-ESSDAI) in the prognosis of SS-related NHLs, as defined in terms of overall and event-free survivals (OS and EFS). An event was defined as lymphoma relapse, treatment failure, disease progression, histological transformation or death. The effect of NHL clinical and laboratory characteristics was also investigated. Results MALT lymphomas constituted the majority (66.2%) of lymphomas. During the follow-up (median = 57.93 months), the 5-year OS was 90.91% (95% CI: 82.14–95.80%) and the EFS was 77.92% (95% CI: 67.37–85.82%). Patients with high ESSDAI score at lymphoma diagnosis had a greater risk for death (OR = 5.241, 95% CI: 1.034–26.568) or for event (OR = 4.317, 95% CI: 1.146–9.699, p = 0.008). These patients had also significantly worse EFS (HR = 4.541, 95% CI: 1.772–11.637) and OS (HR = 5.946, 95% CI: 1.259–28.077). In addition, post-chemotherapy ESSDAI improvement was significantly lower in patients who had experienced an event (p = 0.005). An unfavorable International prognostic index (IPI) score (high-intermediate/high) was associated with high risk of death and event (OR = 13.867, 95% CI: 2.656–72.387 and OR = 12.589, 95% CI: 3.911–40.526, respectively), worse EFS (log-rank p<0.001, HR = 8.718, 95% CI: 3.477–21.858), as well as with worse OS (log-rank p<0.001, HR = 11.414, 95% CI: 2.414–53.974). After adjustment for identified risk factors, IPI score retained a significant prognostic role following by a strong effect of ESSDAI in survival outcomes. Conclusions At the point of NHL diagnosis, IPI and ESSDAI might be proved useful predictive tools in SS-associated lymphoma prognosis, directing to a more patient-tailored approach.

Abstract
The diagnosis of nodal marginal zone lymphoma is one of the remaining problem areas in hematopathology. Because no established positive markers exist for this lymphoma, it is frequently a diagnosis of exclusion, making distinction from other low-grade B-cell lymphomas difficult or even impossible. This systematic review summarizes and discusses the current knowledge on nodal marginal zone lymphoma, including clinical features, epidemiology and etiology, histology, and cytogenetic and molecular features. In particular, recent advances in diagnostics and pathogenesis are discussed. New immunohistochemical markers have become available that could be used as positive markers for nodal marginal zone lymphoma. These markers could be used to ensure more homogeneous study groups in future research. Also, recent gene expression studies and studies describing specific gene mutations have provided clues to the pathogenesis of nodal marginal zone lymphoma, suggesting deregulation of the nuclear factor kappa B pathway. Nevertheless, nodal marginal zone lymphoma remains an enigmatic entity, requiring further study to define its pathogenesis to allow an accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment. However, recent data indicate that it is not related to splenic or extranodal lymphoma, and that it is also not related to lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. Thus, even though the diagnosis is not always easy, it is clearly a separate entity.

Abstract
Treatment of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas has undergone substantial developments in the past 10 years. The introduction of rituximab has greatly improved survival outcomes in patients. Clinical practice guidelines based on current evidence have been developed to provide recommendations for standard treatment approaches. However, guidelines do not take into account resource limitations in resource-poor countries. The huge disparities in economy, health-care infrastructure, and access to novel drugs between Asian countries can hinder the delivery of optimum care to patients with lymphoma in Asia. We outline guidelines appropriate to different levels of health-care resources and expertise, aiming to provide advice on diagnosis and treatment, unify interpretation of results, and allow the design of future studies in Asia. In this resource-adapted consensus, we summarise recommendations for diagnosis, staging, risk stratification, and treatment of common B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas in Asia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Sjögren's syndrome (SS), a chronic autoimmune disorder, particularly compromises the function of exocrine glands. Its association with lymphoma is well documented. Our aim was to systematically review the molecular, clinical, histopathologic, and therapeutic aspects of these SS-related malignant lymphoproliferations. METHODS The literature was searched for original articles published between 1968 and 2012 focusing on the risk factors for lymphoma development in Sjögren's syndrome using MEDLINE and PubMed. The search terms we used were "Sjögren's syndrome," "lymphoma," and "risk factors." All papers identified were English-language, full-text papers. RESULTS A low-grade marginal-zone lymphoma related to mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue is the commonest lymphoid neoplasia in SS. The majority of SS-associated lymphomas are characterized by localized stage, indolent clinical course, and recurrence in other extranodal sites. Although the transition from a chronic inflammatory condition to malignant lymphoma is a multistep process that is yet poorly understood, there is increasing evidence that chronic antigenic stimulation by an exoantigen or autoantigens plays an essential role in the development of SS-associated lymphoproliferation. CONCLUSIONS This review discusses the pathogenetic aspects of lymphomagenesis in SS. Recent advances in the treatment of lymphoma in SS are also stated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND.: Prognostic factors and outcomes in patients with marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) have been studied in small cohort studies, which may not reflect the population at large. METHODS.: Clinical characteristics and survival outcomes of adult patients with MZL who were diagnosed between 1995 and 2009 were evaluated using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The authors generated clinical prognostic models for subtypes of MZL and compared survival during the periods of 1995 through 2000, 2001 through 2004, and 2005 through 2009. RESULTS.: The prognosis was significantly better for patients with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma (5-year relative survival rate of 88.7%; P < .0001) compared with those with the splenic MZL (SMLZ)or nodal MZL (NMZL) subtypes (5-year relative survival rates of 79.7% and 76.5%, respectively). There was evidence of improved outcomes in patients with NMZL and MALT lymphomas between 1995 and 2009 (P < .0001), with no difference noted in patients with SMZL (P = .56). Advancing age and the presence of B symptoms had prognostic significance in all MZL subtypes. Male sex and stage of disease were significant only for the NMZL and MALT categories. Survival in patients with MALT lymphomas varied depending on the site of origin, with a worse prognosis noted in those with gastrointestinal and pulmonary locations of origin (5-year incidence rate of lymphoma-related death, 9.5%-14.3%) compared with ocular, cutaneous, and endocrine sites (4.5%-7.8%; P < .0001). CONCLUSIONS.: The survival for patients with SMZL is similar to that for those with NMZL, and unlike the NMZL and MALT subtypes, it has not improved over the past decade. The prognosis of patients with MALT lymphoma varies according to the anatomical site of origin.
