Abstract
Background The Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) is a simple tool to assess functional impairment for hand OA patients. The purpose of this study was to translate the FIHOA into the Thai language, and validate it in Thai hand OA patients. Methods The FIHOA was translated into Thai (T-FIHOA) according to the principles of
cross-cultural adaptation and administered to 102 hand OA patients recruited between September 2020 and July 2021 together with the modified Health Assessment Questionnaire (mHAQ), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), and visual analogue scale (VAS) for hand pain. Spearman’s correlation coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used to check the test-retest reliability of each item and the total scores in the translated questionnaire. The internal consistency reliability was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha. The external construct validity was assessed using correlations between the T-FIHOA, mHAQ, DASH and hand pain VAS. Results The T-FIHOA had a unidimensional structure. The ICC was > 0.9 and the Cronbach’s alpha of 0.92 indicated excellent reliability and internal consistency, respectively. The external validity tests indicated moderate correlation with the hand pain VAS (r = 0.37, P < 0.01) and moderate to strong correlations with the mHAQ (r = 0.63, P < 0.01), and DASH score (r = 0.52, P < 0.01). The T-FIHOA had the highest effect size (ES) and standardized response mean (SRM) (− 0.37 and − 0.58 respectively) among all questionnaires except for the VAS when assessing changes between baseline and week 4. Conclusions The T-FIHOA is a good and reliable assessment tool freely available for practitioners/researchers to evaluate functional impairment in Thai hand OA patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To perform reliability and validity study of the Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) in the Turkish language. METHODS FIHOA was translated into Turkish following the principles of cross-cultural adaptation. Our translation was firstly tested in 40 patients with hand osteoarthritis. Adapted FIHOA questionnaire was then administrated to 100 hand OA patients successively with Modified Health Assessment Questionnaire (mHAQ), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and Short Form-36 (SF-36). Patients filled out the FIHOA questionnaire one more time after five days for test-retest assessment. Patients were divided into two groups as symptomatic or asymptomatic, with a NRS score of 5 or above defining symptomatic OA. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of test-retest reliability. Spearman correlation analysis was used to determine the correlation and validity between data. External construct validity was assessed using the correlation between FIHOA, mHAQ, hand pain NRS, and negative correlation with SF-36 subgroups. RESULTS According to the total score, Cronbach-alpha was found as 0.90, while ICC was determined as 0.98 for test-retest reliability. When the correlations between the FIHOA questionnaire, mHAQ, and NRS questionnaires were examined, significant correlations were determined, and negative correlations between FIHOA and SF-36 subgroups were observed. CONCLUSION Turkish FIHOA is a reliable and valid method for assessing functionality in Turkish patients with hand osteoarthritis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of a valid and reliable outcome scoring system is crucial for evaluating the result of different treatment interventions. The aims of this study were to translate and culturally adapt the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) midfoot scoring system into the Persian language and assess its validity and reliability. METHOD In total, 57 patients with midfoot injuries were enrolled. Forward-backward translation and cultural adaptation methods were used to develop the Persian version of AOFAS midfoot scoring system. Reliability and internal consistency were assessed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's alpha. The discriminant and convergent validities of the scoring system were assessed using the total score of the mental and physical component of SF-36. RESULTS The mean age of the participants was 46.2 ± 16.3 years. The intra-observer reliability of the totals core of the Persian version of AOFAS midfoot scoring system was 0.96 (confidence interval [CI]: 0.92-0.97) and the inter-observer reliability of the scoring system was 0.90 (CI: 0.86-0.95). The Persian version of AOFAS midfoot scoring system had acceptable convergence with physical component scoring system of SF-36 and its subscales (0.57); moreover, it had acceptable discriminant validity with the mental component of SF-36 and its subscales (0.36). CONCLUSION The Persian version of AOFAS midfoot is a reliable and valid instrument and could be used by Persian language clinicians and researchers. LEVEL OF CLINICAL EVIDENCE 3.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is no systematic review that analyzes the psychometric properties of questionnaires in Italian. Previous studies have analyzed the psychometric characteristics of instruments for the measurement of pathologies of upper limbs and their joints in different languages. The aim of the present study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the questionnaires published in Italian for the evaluation of the entire upper limb or some of its specific regions and related dysfunctions. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION For the development of this systematic review, the following databases were used: PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Dialnet, Cinahl, Embase and PEDro. The selection criteria used in this study were: studies of transcultural adaptation to Italian of questionnaires oriented to the evaluation of upper limbs or any of their structures (specifically shoulder, elbow and wrist/hand), and contribution of psychometric variables of the questionnaire in its Italian version. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS After reading the titles and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria to the complete documents, 16 documents were selected: 3 for the upper limb, 8 for the shoulder, 1 for the elbow and 4 for the wrist and hand. The cross-sectional psychometric variables show levels between good and excellent in all the questionnaires. Longitudinal psychometric variables had not been calculated in the vast majority of the analyzed questionnaires. CONCLUSIONS Italian versions of the questionnaires show good basic structural and psychometric characteristics for the evaluation of patients with musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb and its joints (shoulder, elbow and wrist/hand).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) is a simple, reliable, and reproducible specific instrument to evaluate hand OA that can be applied both in clinical practice and research protocols. In order to be used in Brazil, FIHOA has to be translated into Portuguese, culturally adapted and have the reliability of the translated FIHOA version tested, which is the purpose of this study. METHODS The FIHOA was translated into Brazilian Portuguese and administered to 68 patients with hand OA recruited between May 2019 and February 2020. The test-retest was applied to 32 patients and the reliability was assessed using Spearman's correlation coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The internal consistency reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha. External construction validity was assessed using the Spearman's correlation test between FIHOA and pain, assessed with a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Cochin Hand Functional Scale (CHFS) and Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ). RESULTS The 30 participants that initially answered the translated version of the FiHOA did not report difficulties in understanding or interpreting the translated version. The test-retest reliability for the total score was strong (r = 0.86; ICC = 0.89). Mean differences (1.37 ± 0.68) using Bland Altman's analysis did not significantly differ from zero and no systematic bias was observed. Cronbach's alpha was also high (0.89) suggesting a strong internal coherence in the test items. There were also correlations between FIHOA and the CHFS (r = 0.88), HAQ (r = 0.64) and pain in the hands both at rest (r = 0.55) and in motion (r = 0.44). CONCLUSION The translation of the FIHOA into Brazilian Portuguese proved a valid instrument for measuring the functional capacity of patients with hand OA who understand Brazilian Portuguese.

Abstract
PURPOSE Achilles tendinopathy is a prevalent overuse injury among athletes and in those with a sedentary lifestyle. Current evidence indicates that the Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A) questionnaire is a valid, reliable and disease-specific outcome measure for assessing the clinical symptoms in patients with Achilles tendinopathy. The objective of this study was to translate and cross-culturally adapt the VISA-A questionnaire into Persian (VISA-A-P) and evaluating its psychometric properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cultural adaptation of VISA-A-P was conducted according to Beaton's guideline. The final version of VISA-A-P was handed to 61 patients for analysis of psychometric properties. Test-retest reliability, internal consistency, concurrent validity, item-total correlation, and floor/ceiling effect were evaluated in patients with Achilles tendinopathy. To assess test-retest reliability, 35 patients refilled the VISA-A-P twice within 5-7 days. Known-group validity was evaluated using 50 healthy individuals. RESULTS VISA-A-P showed excellent test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.90), excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.95), strong correlation with FAAM, and moderate to strong correlation with FAOS questionnaires. There was a significant difference between the average score of patients (34.55 ± 18.24) and the healthy group (73.1 ± 20.10). VISA-A-P showed neither ceiling nor floor effect. CONCLUSIONS The VISA-A-P is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring the symptoms in Persian speaking populations with Achilles tendinopathy.Implications for rehabilitationAchilles tendinopathy is a debilitating overuse injury that insidiously affects tendoAchilles.VISA-A-P revealed acceptable validity and reliability and it could be used by Persian speaking clinicians and researchers to assess pain and function in people with Achilles tendinopathy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Functional Index of Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) is a clinically and methodologically validated score used to assess functional impact in patients with hand osteoarthritis (OA). The aim of the study was to translate the FIHOA into classical Arabic, and to validate the psychometric properties of the translated version. METHODS The FIHOA was translated into Arabic (FIHOA-AR) according to cross-cultural adaptation guidelines. The FIHOA-AR was administrated to patients diagnosed with hand OA according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). A 5-day test-retest reliability and internal consistency study was performed using the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. External validity was measured by correlations between FIHOA-AR, hand pain visual analog scale (VAS) and the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ). RESULTS The sample consisted of 101 patients with hand OA. The obtained ICC > 0.9 and Cronbach's alpha of 0.93 indicated excellent reliability and internal consistency respectively. The evaluation of external validity showed strong correlation with hand pain VAS (r = 0.88, p < 0.001), and strong correlation with HAQ score (r = 0.86, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION The FIHOA-AR is a reliable and valid score to assess functional disability in Arabic- speaking patients with hand OA.

Abstract
Background Hand osteoarthritis (OA) has a wide spectrum of clinical presentations and physical function is one of the core domains where patients suffer. The Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) is a leading assessment tool for hand OA-related functional impairment. Our objective was to make a Japanese version of FIHOA (J-FIHOA) and validate it among Japanese hand OA patients. Methods Forward and backward translation processes were completed to create a culturally adapted J-FIHOA. A prospective, observational multicenter study was undertaken for the validation process. Seventeen collaborating hospitals recruited Japanese hand OA patients who met the American College of Rheumatology criteria. A medical record review and responses to the following patient-rated questionnaires were collected: J-FIHOA, Hand20, Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), numerical rating scale for pain (NRS pain) and Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36). We explored the structure of J-FIHOA using factor analysis. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients and item-total correlations were calculated. Correlations between J-FIHOA and other questionnaires were evaluated for construct validity. Participants in clinically stable conditions repeated J-FIHOA at a one- to two-week interval to assess test-retest reliability. To evaluate responsiveness, symptomatic patients who started new pharmacological treatments had a 1-month follow-up visit and completed the questionnaires twice. Effect size (ES) and standardized response mean (SRM) were calculated with pre- and post-treatment data sets. We assessed responsiveness, comparing ES and SRM of J-FIHOA with other questionnaires (construct approach). Results A total of 210 patients participated. J-FIHOA had unidimensional structure. Cronbach’s alphas (0.914 among females and 0.929 among males) and item-total correlations (range, 0.508 to 0.881) revealed high internal consistency. Hand20, which measures upper extremity disability, was strongly correlated with J-FIHOA (r = 0.82) while the mental and role-social components of SF-36 showed no correlations (r = − 0.24 and − 0.26, respectively). Intraclass correlation coefficient for test-retest reliability was 0.83 and satisfactory. J-FIHOA showed the highest ES and SRM (− 0.68 and − 0.62, respectively) among all questionnaires, except for NRS pain. Conclusions Our results showed J-FIHOA had good measurement properties to assess physical function in Japanese hand OA patients both for ambulatory follow-up in clinical practice, and clinical research and therapeutic trials.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study. OBJECTIVE To evaluate cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric properties of the Copenhagen Neck Function Disability Scale (CNFDS) and Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire (NBQ) in patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA CNFDS and NBQ are among the most popular scales to investigate aspects of life in patients with chronic neck pain. To date, the Persian versions of these scales have not been validated. METHODS Following the translation process, the questionnaires were given to 106 patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain. To evaluate reliability, Cronbach alpha and test-retest reliability were evaluated. To investigate construct validity, the Neck Disability Index (NDI) and Neck Pain Disability Scale (NPDS) were used. Internal consistency of the scales was evaluated with exploratory factor analysis. RESULTS No missing data were observed for the NBQ, and missing data affected 0% to 3% of the CNFDS items. There were no floor or ceiling effects. Cronbach alpha was 0.92 for the CNFDS and 0.95 for the NBQ. Test-retest reliability was estimated as 0.86 for the CNFDS and 0.91 for the NBQ. The CNFDS correlated very well with the NDI pain subscale, and the NPDS. The NBQ correlated very well with the NPDS and NDI, and correlated well with the CNFDS and its subscales. Exploratory factor analysis detected three dimensions for the CNFDS and confirmed unidimensionality of the NBQ. CONCLUSION The Persian versions of the CNFDS and NBQ have acceptable validity and reliability for use with Persian-speaking patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 2.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to translate the Functional Index for Hand Osteoarthritis (FIHOA) into Korean, and establish its reliability and validity in Korean patients with hand osteoarthritis (OA). METHOD The FIHOA was translated into Korean (K-FIHOA) following cross-cultural adaptation guidelines. The K-FIHOA was pretested on 40 patients with hand OA. The adapted K-FIHOA was then administered to 100 consecutive hand OA patients together with the modified Health Assessment Questionnaire (mHAQ) and visual analog scale (VAS) for hand pain. The test-retest reliability of each item and total scores were assessed using Spearman's correlation coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The internal consistency reliability was evaluated as Cronbach's alpha. The external construct validity was assessed using the correlation between K-FIHOA, mHAQ and hand pain VAS. RESULTS The test-retest reliability for the total score was strong (r = 0.87 and ICC = 0.83). Cronbach's alpha was also high (0.88), which suggests that there is strong internal coherence in the test items. We identified significant correlations between K-FIHOA and mHAQ (r = 0.52, P < 0.01), mHAQ hand function score, (r = 0.57, P < 0.01) and hand pain VAS (r = 0.53, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION The K-FIHOA is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating functional disability in Korean hand OA patients.
