Abstract
Recent pre-clinical and clinical spinal cord epidural stimulation (scES) experiments specifically targeting the thoracolumbar and lumbosacral circuitries mediating lower urinary tract (LUT) function have shown improvements in storage, detrusor pressure, and emptying. With the existence of a lumbar spinal coordinating center in rats that is involved with external urethral sphincter (EUS) functionality during micturition, the mid-lumbar spinal cord (specifically L3) was targeted in the current study with scES to determine if the EUS and thus the void pattern could be modulated, using both intact and chronic complete spinal cord injured female rats under urethane anesthesia. L3 scES at select frequencies and intensities of stimulation produced a reduction in void volumes and EUS burst duration in intact rats. After chronic transection, three different subgroups of LUT dysfunction were identified and the response to L3 scES promoted different cystometry outcomes, including changes in EUS bursting. The current findings suggest that scES at the L3 level can generate functional neuromodulation of both the urinary bladder and the EUS in intact and SCI rats to enhance voiding in a variety of clinical scenarios.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The scenario of the patient with neuropathies, which are related to urinary disorders, impacts the quality of life. Symptoms can lead to social isolation, impair activities of daily living, and shorten life expectancy. This study aims to make a practical and integrative review of current recommendations for the urogynecological approach of patients with neuropathy and urinary dysfunction. METHODS The authors searched for data on combinations of the terms "lower urinary tract symptoms" AND "neurogenic voiding dysfunction" from January 2012 to January 2022 in the following scientific databases: PUBMED, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and The Cochrane Library. INCLUSION CRITERIA randomized clinical trials, protocols from specialized societies and articles before that period, and according to clinical relevance. EXCLUSION CRITERIA case series or reports, expert opinions not endorsed by medical societies in the area. RESULTS From the 25 studies mentioned, 09 studies were selected according to pre-established criteria and qualitative analysis of relevance. The authors add 2 references for relevance in the area of urogynecology and neurological diseases. According to the selected scientific references, the main neuropathies that can cause urinary dysfunction are CNS injuries such as stroke, spinal cord injury, meningomyelocele, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Ten steps below were compiled to facilitate the gynecological approach, according to the researched literature. CONCLUSION It is important for the medical assistant to pay close attention to careful anamnesis and post-emptying urinary residual volume. The treatment in general addresses greater fluid intake, maneuvers to favor bladder emptying, medications, and/or intermittent self-catheterization. The approach of a multidisciplinary team can make a difference in the patient's prognosis and quality of life.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Online survey distributed to healthcare professionals (HCPs) involved in care of spinal cord injury (SCI) patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD). OBJECTIVES Identify and bring awareness to the variation of neurogenic bladder management in around the world. SETTING International online questionnaire. METHODS A 32-question survey was drafted and circulated among a global network of SCI experts for review. The survey was disseminated to healthcare professionals involved in the care of NLUTD in SCI patients via social media, grassroots methods, and international societies. The survey was available for 6 weeks and respondents answered questions regarding SCI population demographics, access to care, common neurogenic bladder management, diagnostic and imaging methods, complications, and follow up. RESULTS A total of 296 healthcare professionals, 132 from North America, 87 from Europe, 27 from Asia, 24 from Australia, 14 from South America, and 6 from Africa, responded to the survey. Global concurrence was noted among management method for patients without adequate hand function, first-line treatment for neurogenic detrusor overactivity, and common complications. Continents highly differed in responses regarding management method for patients with adequate hand function, frequency of patients reusing catheters, timing of urodynamics, and duration of antibiotic therapy for urinary tract infections. CONCLUSIONS The results of this international survey demonstrate the variability and uniqueness in neurogenic bladder management in SCI patients around the world. Increased international discourse and education will improve global communication and transparency with the efforts of reducing discrepancies in care.

Abstract
The present article is an abridged English translation of the Japanese clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of lower urinary tract dysfunction in patients with spinal cord injury updated as of July 2019. The patients are adult spinal cord injured patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction; special consideration of pediatric and elderly populations is presented separately. The target audience is healthcare providers who are engaged in the medical care of patients with spinal cord injury. The mandatory assessment includes medical history, physical examination, frequency-volume chart, urinalysis, blood chemistry, transabdominal ultrasonography, measurement of post-void residual urine, uroflowmetry and video-urodynamic study. Optional assessments include questionnaires on the quality of life, renal scintigraphy and cystourethroscopy. The presence or absence of risk factors for renal damage and symptomatic urinary tract infection affects urinary management, as well as pharmacological treatments. Further treatment is recommended if the maximum conservative treatment fails to improve or prevent renal damage and symptomatic urinary tract infection. In addition, management of urinary incontinence should be considered individually in patients with risk factors for urinary incontinence and decreased quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study will aim to assess the effectiveness of the rehabilitation training (RT) combined acupuncture for the treatment of patients with neurogenic bladder (NB) secondary to the spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS We will conduct a comprehensive literature search from the following databases from the inceptions to the present with no language limitation: PUBMED, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, SinoMed, Web of Science, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, VIP, WANGFANG, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Additionally, we will also search gray literature, including dissertations and conference proceedings. RevMan V.5.3 software will be used for the study selection, assessment of bias of bias, and data synthesis. RESULTS This study will synthesize the available evidence of RT combined with acupuncture for NB secondary to SCI, including episodes of urinary incontinence, urinary retention, urinary tract infection, bladder overactivity, quality of life, and adverse events. CONCLUSION This study will determine whether RT combined acupuncture is an effective and safety therapy for NB secondary to SCI. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42019146127.

Abstract
A risk factor model for urinary tract infections in patients with adult neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction performing clean intermittent catheterisation was developed; it consists of four domains, namely, (1) general (systemic) conditions in the patient, (2) individual urinary tract conditions in the patient, (3) routine aspects related to the patient, and (4) factors related to intermittent catheters per se. The conceptual model primarily concerns patients with spinal cord injury, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, or cauda equina where intermittent catheterisation is a normal part of the bladder management. On basis of several literature searches and author consensus in case of lacking evidence, the model intends to provide an overview of the risk factors involved in urinary tract infections, with specific emphasis to describe those that in daily practice can be handled and modified by the clinician and so come to the benefit of the individual catheter user in terms of fewer urinary tract infections.
