Abstract
Moroccan flora, renowned for its diverse medicinal plant species, has long been used in traditional medicine to manage diabetes. This review synthesizes ethnobotanical surveys conducted during the last two decades. Among these plants, 10 prominent Moroccan medicinal plants are evaluated for their phytochemical composition and antidiabetic properties through both in vitro and in vivo studies. The review encompasses a comprehensive analysis of the bioactive compounds identified in these plants, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenoids, and alkaloids. Phytochemical investigations revealed a broad spectrum of secondary metabolites contributing to their therapeutic efficacy. In vitro assays demonstrated the significant inhibition of key enzymes α-amylase and α-glucosidase, while in vivo studies highlighted their potential in reducing blood glucose levels and enhancing insulin secretion. Among the ten plants, notable examples include Trigonella foenum-graecum, Nigella Sativa, and Artemisia herba-alba, each showcasing distinct mechanisms of action, such as enzymatic inhibition and the modulation of glucose metabolism pathways. This review underscores the necessity for further chemical, pharmacological, and clinical research to validate the antidiabetic efficacy of these plants and their active compounds, with a view toward their potential integration into therapeutic practices.

Abstract
High-quality genome of rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) represents a valuable resource and tool for understanding genome evolution and environmental adaptation as well as its genetic improvement. However, the existing rosemary genome did not provide insights into the relationship between antioxidant components and environmental adaptability. In this study, by employing Nanopore sequencing and Hi-C technologies, a total of 1.17 Gb (97.96%) genome sequences were mapped to 12 chromosomes with 46 121 protein-coding genes and 1265 non-coding RNA genes. Comparative genome analysis reveals that rosemary had a closely genetic relationship with Salvia splendens and Salvia miltiorrhiza, and it diverged from them approximately 33.7 million years ago (MYA), and one whole-genome duplication occurred around 28.3 MYA in rosemary genome. Among all identified rosemary genes, 1918 gene families were expanded, 35 of which are involved in the biosynthesis of antioxidant components. These expanded gene families enhance the ability of rosemary adaptation to adverse environments. Multi-omics (integrated transcriptome and metabolome) analysis showed the tissue-specific distribution of antioxidant components related to environmental adaptation. During the drought, heat and salt stress treatments, 36 genes in the biosynthesis pathways of carnosic acid, rosmarinic acid and flavonoids were up-regulated, illustrating the important role of these antioxidant components in responding to abiotic stresses by adjusting ROS homeostasis. Moreover, cooperating with the photosynthesis, substance and energy metabolism, protein and ion balance, the collaborative system maintained cell stability and improved the ability of rosemary against harsh environment. This study provides a genomic data platform for gene discovery and precision breeding in rosemary. Our results also provide new insights into the adaptive evolution of rosemary and the contribution of antioxidant components in resistance to harsh environments.

Abstract
Rosmarinus officinalis L. is a dietary source that produces polyphenols as secondary metabolites. These natural compounds with potent antioxidant abilities are increasingly recommended as a supplement to inhibit oxidative stress. In the current work, we evaluated the impact of the extraction method on the chemical composition of R. officinalis extract, especially on the content of carnosic (CA) and rosmarinic (RA) acids using UPLC-MS-DAD as well as on their antioxidant potency. Four extracts of Tunisian rosemary were obtained from non-conventional extraction techniques:ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE),supercritical extraction (SFE) and UAE and SFE combined ((UAE-SFE(I), UAE-SFE(II)). The UAE exhibited the best total phenolic compounds (i.e., 85.27 mg GAEg-1), the highest content of CAand RA and the strongest antioxidant abilities (i.e., IC50 = 0.13 mg/mL and EC50 = 0.93 mg/mL for DPPH scavenging test and iron reducing power ability assay). The evaluation of antioxidant activity of UAE inhuman skin fibroblast (HS-68) cell line was carried out after the induction of oxidative stress. The results determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay showed a strong protective effect against H2O2oxidative stress induction in cells pretreated with UAE. The obtained results allow us to give new insight about the effect of the extraction method on the chemical composition and biological activities of the extract and the importance of the choice of the most appropriate processing technique to prepare rosemary extract with a high antioxidant potency and protective effect against oxidative stress.

Abstract
This study explores the use of a photoionization detector (PID) to distinguish varieties of rosemary plant, based on their volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. The aim was to be able to distinguish plant varieties using a simple, quick, and inexpensive method. Two varieties were studied, Rosmarinus officinalis L. “Prostratus” and “Erectus”. First, the PID was used to detect VOCs emitted by leaves from each variety, and subsequently essential oil was extracted from the same leaves. Then, the well-established GC-MS method was used to characterize and differentiate the oil from each of the two varieties. The PID was able to capture different signals, and a ‘fingerprint’ for each of the two varieties was obtained. To validate the PID performance, the data set obtained was analyzed by means of advanced statistical models (principal component analysis, cluster and support vector machine and artificial neural network) which were able to discriminate the two varieties with high accuracy (over 80%). Therefore, the results confirm that the PID was able to detect differences in VOC emissions. In conclusion, PID proved be an interesting instrument for the classification of rosemary plants, and in this sense could be applied to other aromatic plants.

Abstract
Herbicide resistance due to the increasing reliance on herbicides is a near-term challenge for the world’s agriculture. This has led to a desire to develop new herbicides with a novel mode of action, to address resistance in weed species. Lamiaceae, a large dicotyledonous plant family, is very well known for the multitudinous pharmacological and toxicological properties of its member species. Moreover, many species of this family are significant for their allelopathic activity in natural and laboratory settings. Thus, plants in Lamiaceae have the potential to be sources of alternative herbicides. However, gaps in our knowledge need to be addressed prior to adopting these allelopathic activities in agriculture. Therefore, we review the existing state of knowledge about the Lamiaceae family, the reported allelopathic properties of plant extracts, and their isolated allelochemicals under laboratory, greenhouse, and field conditions. In addition, we offer a perspective on existing challenges and future opportunities for adopting the allelopathic properties of Lamiaceae plant species for green agriculture.

Sustainable Exploitation of Greek Rosmarinus officinalis L. Populations for Ornamental Use through Propagation by Shoot Cuttings and In Vitro Cultures. SUSTAINABILITY 2022. Abstract
Rosmarinus officinalis L. belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is cultivated worldwide due to its diverse uses as an ornamental evergreen shrub in gardening, as well as a food seasoning and a natural medicine. The present research was conducted to study the morphological traits of seven wild-grown rosemary populations in Greece, as well as the propagation of two selected populations with the most desirable ornamental characteristics, by the use of shoot cuttings and in vitro cultures. From the study of the morphological traits of the seven populations, those with interesting features were grown in the areas of Amaliada and Piperia and, thus, were chosen for studying their propagation. Rooting of the shoot cuttings was carried out during the four seasons of the year, using potassium salt Indole-3-butyric acid (K-IBA) at concentrations of 0.5 and 1 g·L−1, in various substrates under the intermittent mist or fog system. It was found that the shoot cuttings rooted easily in all four seasons, but there were better results for the population of ‘Piperia’ in autumn, with 1 g·L−1 K-IBA (80%), and ‘Amaliada’ in spring, with 0.5 g·L−1 K-IBA (82.5%), while higher rooting percentages were achieved in the fog system, on a substrate consisting of perlite and peat, in a ratio of 2:1 (85%). For the in vitro cultures, shoot tips excised from the two selected populations were successfully disinfested by pre-soaking in an antioxidant solution and then, by sterilizing them in 0.6% (w/v) NaOCl, followed by transferring them onto a Murashige and Skoog (MS) nutrient medium. ‘Amaliada’ cultures proved to be the most productive population (2.1 shoots per explant), with the highest shoot formation frequency (91.6%), when cultivated on the MS nutrient medium without plant growth regulators. For ‘Piperia’ cultures, the highest shoot formation frequency (66.6%) was achieved on the MS nutrient medium supplemented with 0.25 or 0.5 mg·L−1 6-Benzyloaminopurine (BAP) and 0.1 mg·L−1 Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Spontaneous root formation frequency was noticed on the MS nutrient medium, containing 0.5 mg·L−1 BAP and 0.1 mg·L−1 IAA, for both ‘Amaliada’ and ‘Piperia’ cultures (50% and 41.6%, respectively) in a single stage, with root lengths of 7.1 and 5.3 cm, respectively. Rosemary plantlets, with roots formed in vitro after transplanting them in soilless substrate, were acclimatized adequately in the greenhouse environment (~70%).
