Abstract
The consumption of inadequately thermally treated fish is a public health risk due to the possible propagation of Anisakis larvae. The present study demonstrated the physiological and histopathological changes that accompanied an oral inoculation of crude extracts from fresh and thermally treated Anisakis Type II (L3) in rats. Worms were isolated from a marine fish and examined and identified using light and scanning electron microscopy. The study was performed in 6 rat groups: control (I), garlic oil (GO) inoculated (II), fresh L3 inoculated (III), thermally treated L3 inoculated (IV), fresh L3 + GO inoculated (V), and a thermally treated L3 + GO inoculated (VI) groups. Rats inoculated with fresh and thermally treated L3 showed abnormal liver and kidney functions associated with the destruction of normal architecture. GO produced a protective effect in rat groups inoculated with L3 extracts + GO via the amelioration of liver and kidney functions, which was confirmed by the marked normal structure on histology. Cooking of L3-infected fish induced severe alterations compared to uncooked fish. The administration of garlic before and after fish eating is recommended to avoid the dangerous effect of anisakids, even if they are cooked.

The present study demonstrated the physiological and histopathological changes that accompanied an oral inoculation of crude extracts from fresh and thermally treated Anisakis Type II (L3) in Wistar albino rats. Nematode worms were isolated from the marine fish Dicentrarchus labrax. They were examined and taxonomically identified using light and scanning electron microscopy. The study was performed in 6 rat groups: a control group (I), a garlic oil (GO) inoculated group (II), a fresh L3 inoculated group (III), a thermally treated L3 inoculated group (IV), a fresh L3 + GO inoculated group (V), and a thermally treated L3 + GO inoculated group (VI). It was observed that rats inoculated with fresh and thermally treated L3 crude extracts showed abnormal oxidative stress markers associated with the destruction of normal architecture of spleen and thymus. GO produced a protective effect in rat groups inoculated with L3 extracts + GO administration via the amelioration of oxidative stress markers, which was confirmed by the marked normal structure of the organs’ histology. Cooking of L3 infected fish induced severe physiological and histopathological alterations compared to uncooked infected fish. The administration of garlic before and after fish eating is recommended to avoid the dangerous effect of anisakids, even if they are cooked.

Abstract
The striped red mullet Mullus surmuletus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Perciformis: Mullidae) has a high commercial value and therewithal is a common demersal fish of the Mediterranean Sea, therefore studying the helminth parasites of this fish is required. Anisakids nematodes are common parasites of animals including human causing economic losses and different parasitic diseases. During the present study, the nematode Dujardinascaris spp. (Anisakidae) was described from the body cavity and small intestine of Mullus surmuletus in the Alexandria, Mediterranean Sea, Egypt as new host and new geographical record. Forty-five (37.5%) fish out of (120) were found infected by the parasite. The morphological features of the collected nematode were investigated by both light and scanning electron microscopy. The study revealed that the specimens were characterized from other species of the genus by the presence of two large lateral pouches attached to each cephalic lip, the different large-sized papillae on the cephalic region and on the dorsal surface of the nematode cuticle.

Abstract
A total of 455 Boops boops (Linnaeus, 1758) and 953 Trachurus trachurus Linnaeus, 1758 from the east coast of Algeria were examined for their parasitic Nematoda. Two hundred ninety-five specimens of larval stages L3 and L4 were collected from the peritoneal cavity of these two examined fishes. Photonic and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) studies were performed on these larvae specimens in order to characterize their morphology. Two different species of Nematoda (Anisikidae) were identified: Anisakis simplex (Rudolphi, 1809) and Hysterothylacium aduncum (Rudolphi, 1802). These two parasitic species were reported for the first time on T. trachurus and B. boops from the eastern coast of Algeria. These parasites were attached on different organs in the abdominal cavity (particularly on ovaries and testes). The infestation rate changed according to the month and the host size. The parasitism did not show a significant negative impact on the condition of the examined fishes.

Abstract
The third larval stage (L3) of Anisakis simplex (Anisakidae) is one of the zoonotic parasitic nematodes in the musculature and visceral organs of marine fishes belonging to family Moronidae. The consumption of these high-commercial-value fish is widespread in many countries around the Mediterranean Sea including Egypt. The presence of these larvae in fish muscles poses a potential consumer hazard due to the parasite's ability to cause anisakidosis. Forty-two out of 60 (70%) of the European seabass Dicentrarchus labrax were found to be naturally infected by L3 of A. simplex in the form of encapsulated juveniles in the fish musculature. Morphological examination of recovered parasites by light and scanning electron microscopy showed that, in general, all specimens examined closely resembled A. simplex (L3). To evaluate the allergenicity of this nematode, white blood cell count; levels of T helper 1 (Th1) [interferon (IFN)-γ and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α)], Th2 [IL-4, IL-5, and IL-6], and Th17 [IL-17] related cytokines; total IgE and IgG antibodies; and nitric oxide (NO) were measured in the plasma of Wistar rats sensitized by oral inoculation with fresh, frozen, and heat-treated A. simplex L3 or rats intraperitoneally injected with L3 crude extract. Rats sensitized with fresh and frozen L3 larvae produced significantly higher levels of IFN-γ, IL-5, IL-17, and total IgE as compared to control rats. Heat-treated larvae administration resulted in a significant rise of IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-5, and total IgE in comparison to control rats. Intraperitoneal sensitizations enhanced release of IFN-γ, TNF-α, and total IgE. Oral sensitization led to a significant production of NO. Thereby, frozen or cooked larval L3 cannot inhibit the release of Th-related cytokines and IgE, which might impact on the overall anti-parasitic immunity.

Abstract
The presence of a Raphidascarid parasitic nematode Hysterothylacium aduncum (Rudolphi, 1802) in two sparid fish (Sparus aurata and Diplodus vulgaris) and one soleid fish (Solea solea) was investigated in this study. A total of 868 individuals; 385 S. aurata, 437 D. vulgaris and 46 S. solea were collected from the Mersin Bay between February 2013 and January 2014 and examined. Variations in the prevalence, mean intensity, and mean abundance of the parasite were 14.55%, 2.05, and 0.30 for S. aurata, 4.12%, 2.44, and 0.10 for D. vulgaris, and 15.22%, 3.29, and 0.50 for S. sole respectively. Nucleotide sequences of 1398 base pair long fragment of 18S rRNA-ITS1-5.8S rRNA-ITS2-28S rRNA region and 641 base pair long fragment of mtDNA cytochrome c oxidase I (cox1) gene were used in molecular identification of isolated parasites at species level. All the parasite samples were identified as H. aduncum based on nucleotide sequence comparisons. Both ITS rDNA and mtDNA cox1 sequences revealed a genetic variation among H. aduncum specimens isolated from different fish species, while only mtDNA cox1 sequences were indicating a mean genetic distance of 0.010 among H. aduncum specimens of the same host species.
