Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to summarize the most effective evidence on nonpharmacological interventions for the fatigue-pain-sleep disturbance symptom cluster in lung cancer patients and to provide evidence-based management methods for clinical team and lung cancer patients. METHODS Guided by the "6S" pyramid model, we retrieved evidence on fatigue, pain, and sleep disturbance management from relevant websites and databases, and unpublished gray literature was also searched. The time frame of the search ranged from database establishment to September 30, 2023. Two researchers independently evaluated the literature quality using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) for guidelines, and the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews II (AMSTAR II) for systematic reviews. Two people independently extracted and summarized the evidence according to the first principle of high-quality evidence and newly published evidence. The included evidence was graded by the JBI Evidence Pre-Grading System. RESULTS A total of 52,238 articles were retrieved, of which 60 articles, including 18 guidelines, 18 JBI best practice recommendations, one Up To Date clinical practice, and 23 systematic reviews, were included. Overall, 49 pieces of evidence from six dimensions-screening, assessment, management, education, referral, and follow-up-were summarized. Forty-three pieces of evidence were level 1, three pieces of evidence were level 4, and three pieces of evidence were level 5. CONCLUSIONS The best 49 pieces of evidence on nonpharmacological interventions for the fatigue-pain-sleep disturbance symptom cluster in lung cancer patients were summarized in this study, and these nonpharmacological interventions are scientific and comprehensive. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE This study can provide guidance for clinical team to improve the fatigue-pain-sleep disturbance symptom cluster management. These evidence items can be implemented by clinical team to reduce the symptom burden and improve the self-management ability of symptoms in lung cancer patients.

Abstract
Background The effectiveness of acupuncture for chronic low back pain (cLBP) has not been studied specifically in the 65-and-older population. To inform the validity and generalizability of future acupuncture studies among older adults, we characterized elderly participants' prior experience with and views toward acupuncture and tested for clinical and sociodemographic differences between acupuncture-naïve and non-naïve participants. Methods Data for this study were collected during the baseline telephone interview from the participants enrolled in the Kaiser Permanente Northern California site of an NIH-funded, multicenter clinical trial of acupuncture for cLBP in older adults. Results Nearly two-thirds (65.6 %) of participants surveyed reported they had previously received acupuncture treatment with the vast majority seeking acupuncture treatment for pain-related issues (84.8 %). The majority of these participants reported relatively modest levels of exposure to acupuncture with most participants (63.1 %) reporting fewer than 10 treatment sessions over their lifetimes. There were no significant differences in age, sex, race, ethnicity, disability scores, income levels, or pain levels between the acupuncture-naïve and non-naïve groups. Conclusion Contextual consideration for prior acupuncture utilization rates is warranted and may be higher than expected or previously reported. We found few differences in baseline characteristics between participants who were acupuncture-naïve and those with prior acupuncture experience; thus, future pragmatic clinical trials might relax previous acupuncture-use considerations in their recruitment criteria. For trials focused on acupuncture-naive patients, it may be more feasible to expand the definition of "acupuncture-naive" based on lifetime acupuncture visits or time since last treatment. Abstract
Background Dyspnea, a common symptom of chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs), is closely linked to higher levels of functional impairment and death, leading to significant societal and financial challenges. Despite numerous clinical trials and systematic reviews suggested the potential benefits of acupuncture for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer, there is currently insufficient evidence to conclusively prove its effectiveness in alleviating dyspnea in patients with CRDs. Methods To compile and evaluate the existing data on the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for managing dyspnea in CRDs. Randomized controlled trials investigating acupuncture for the treatment of dyspnea in patients with CRDs, such as COPD, lung cancer, asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, chronic pulmonary heart disease and bronchitis, were searched and retrieved from five electronic databases in English or Chinese. Results A total of 23 studies meeting the inclusion criteria were found in databases, covering various CRDs such as COPD, lung cancer, and asthma. A meta-analysis that compared acupuncture to a control group (which included no acupuncture and sham acupuncture) found significant advantages for acupuncture in reducing dyspnea severity (P = 0.0003), increasing 6MWD (P < 0.00001), improving quality of life measured by St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (P = 0.03) and karnofsky performance status score (P < 0.00001). No significance was found in breathing physiology represented by FEV1 (P = 0.34) and FVC (P = 0.15). There was a comparable incidence of negative outcomes in both groups (P = 0.07). Results were consistent when compared to sham acupuncture. In addition, subgroup analyses were also consistent when different diseases or types of acupuncture were analyzed. Conclusions Acupuncture may be an effective and safe non-pharmacological complementary intervention to relief dyspnea for patients with CRDs. Nevertheless, research with high quality and large sample sizes is needed for further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue is a debilitating symptom found in various chronic diseases and is associated with more severe symptoms and worse quality of life (QoL). However, this symptom has not been adequately addressed in chronic pancreatitis (CP), and there have been no studies on fatigue in patients with CP. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Changhai Hospital in Shanghai, China. Data on the patients' sociodemographic, disease, and therapeutic characteristics were collected. Fatigue was assessed using the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory-20. QoL was assessed utilizing the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer of QoL questionnaire (EORTC-QLQ-C30). Sleep quality, anxiety and depression, and pain was assessed using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Brief Pain Inventory, respectively. RESULTS The prevalence of fatigue among Chinese patients with CP was 35.51 % (87/245). Multivariate analysis showed that steatorrhea (OR = 2.638, 95 % CI: 1.117-6.234), history of smoking (OR = 4.627, 95 % CI: 1.202-17.802), history of endoscopic treatment (OR = 0.419, 95 % CI: 0.185-0.950), depression (OR = 5.924, 95 % CI: 2.462-14.255), and sleep disorder (OR = 6.184, 95 % CI: 2.543-15.034) were influencing factors for the presence of fatigue. The scores for global health and all functional dimensions in the EORTC-QLQ-C30 significantly decreased, whereas the scores for all symptom dimensions significantly increased in patients with fatigue. CONCLUSIONS This study indicated that Fatigue is a common symptom and has a negative impact on the QoL of patients with CP. Steatorrhea, smoking history, endoscopic treatment, depression, and sleep disorders were associated with fatigue.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with local gastric cancer experience a decline of Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) during adjuvant chemotherapy following gastrectomy. Our previous pilot study has indicated the potential of acupuncture to improve HRQOL and control cancer-related symptoms burden. This full-scale trial will focus on confirming the effect of acupuncture for patients with gastric cancer. METHODS A multicenter, open-label, three-arm randomized controlled trial with 249 patients will be conducted in China. Patients will be randomly assigned, in a ratio of 1:1:1, to receive high-dose acupuncture (HA, 7 times each chemo-cycle for 3 cycles), low-dose acupuncture (LA, 3 times each chemo-cycle for 3 cycles), or no acupuncture. The acupoints prescription consisted of bilateral ST36, PC6, SP4, DU20, EX-HN3, and selected Back-shu points. Patients-reported Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Gastric (FACT-Ga) and modified Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (mESAS) during the therapy will be recorded. Area under curve (AUC, 21 days/cycle × 3 cycles) and average trajectory of FACT-Ga and mESAS will be calculated. The primary outcome will be the differences in AUC of the FACT-Ga Trial Outcome Index (TOI) between HA and LA versus control groups. Secondary outcomes include AUCs and average trajectory of other FACT-Ga subscales and mESAS scores. DISCUSSION This study aims to assess the effect of acupuncture and to compare the difference between LA and HA groups on HRQOL and symptom burden controlling in gastric cancer patients by an adequately powered trial. TRIAL REGISTRATION This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (approval number: BF2018-118) with registration at ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier: NCT04360577).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuropsychiatric symptoms, comprising cognitive impairment, fatigue, insomnia, depression, and anxiety, are prevalent and may co-occur during and after chemotherapy treatment for cancer. Electroacupuncture (EA), which involves mild electrical stimulation with acupuncture, holds great potential in addressing the management of individual symptoms. However, there is a lack of studies evaluating if EA can manage concurrent neuropsychiatric symptoms in cancer (i.e., symptom cluster). Hence, we designed a trial to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and feasibility of administering EA as an intervention to mitigate neuropsychiatric symptom clusters amongst cancer patients and survivors. METHODS The EAST study is a randomized, sham-controlled, patient- and assessor-blinded clinical trial. Sixty-four cancer patients and survivors with complaints of one or more neuropsychiatric symptom(s) in the seven days prior to enrollment are recruited from the University of California Irvine (UCI) and Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Individuals with needle phobia, metastases, bleeding disorders, electronic implants, epilepsy, exposure to acupuncture in the three months prior to enrollment, and who are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning to get pregnant during the duration of the study will be excluded. Screening for metal fragments and claustrophobia are performed prior to the optional neuroimaging procedures. Recruited patients will be randomized (1:1) in random blocks of four or six to receive either ten weekly verum EA (treatment arm, vEA) or weekly sham EA (control arm, sEA) treatment visits with a follow-up appointment four to twelve weeks after their last treatment visit. The treatment arm will receive EA at 13 acupuncture points (acupoints) chosen for their therapeutic effects, while the control arm receives minimal EA at 7 non-disease-related acupoints. Questionnaires and cognitive assessments are administered, and blood drawn to assess changes in symptom clusters and biomarkers, respectively. CONCLUSION The EAST study can provide insight into the efficacy of EA, an integrative medicine modality, in the management of cancer symptom clusters in routine clinical practice. Abstract
BackgroundCancer-related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most commonly reported symptoms impacting cancer survivors. This study evaluated and compared the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture treatments for CRF.MethodsWe searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and WanFang Database from inception to November 2022 to identify eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing acupuncture treatments with sham interventions, waitlist (WL), or usual care (UC) for CRF treatment. The outcomes included the Cancer Fatigue Scale (CFS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and pair-wise and Bayesian network meta-analyses were performed using STATA v17.0.ResultsIn total, 34 randomized controlled trials featuring 2632 participants were included. In the network meta-analysis, the primary analysis using CFS illustrated that point application (PA) + UC (standardized mean difference [SMD] = −1.33, 95% CI = −2.02, −0.63) had the highest probability of improving CFS, followed by manual acupuncture (MA) + PA (SMD = −1.21, 95% CI = −2.05, −0.38) and MA + UC (SMD = −0.80, 95% CI = −1.50, −0.09). Moreover, the adverse events of these interventions were acceptable.ConclusionThis study demonstrated that acupuncture was effective and safe on CRF treatment. Abstract
With the constantly deeper understanding of individualized precision therapy, immunotherapy is increasingly developed and personalized. The tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) mainly consists of infiltrating immune cells, neuroendocrine cells, extracellular matrix, lymphatic vessel network, etc. It is the internal environment basis for the survival and development of tumor cells. As a characteristic treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture has shown potentially beneficial impacts on TIME. The currently available information demonstrated that acupuncture could regulate the state of immunosuppression through a range of pathways. An effective way to understand the mechanisms of action of acupuncture was to analyze the response following treatment of the immune system. This research reviewed the mechanisms of acupuncture regulating tumor immunological status based on innate and adaptive immunity.

Abstract
PURPOSE The renewal and iteration of chemotherapy drugs have resulted in more frequent long-term remissions for patients with multiple myeloma (MM). MM has transformed into a chronic illness for many patients, but the cancer-related fatigue (CRF) of many MM convalescent patients experience is frequently overlooked. We investigated whether the accompanying treatment of family members would affect MM patients' CRF and explore their serum metabolomics, so as to provide clinicians with new ideas for identifying and treating CRF of MM patients. METHODS This was a single-center study, and a total of 30 MM patients were included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups based on whether they have close family members accompanying them through the whole hospitalization treatment. These patients received regular chemotherapy by hematology specialists, and long-term follow-up was done by general practitioners. Patients' CRF assessment for several factors used the Chinese version of the Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI-C). Face-to-face questionnaires were administered at a time jointly determined by the patient and the investigator. All questionnaires were conducted by a general practitioner. The LC-MS-based metabolomics analysis determined whether the patients' serum metabolites were related to their fatigue severity. A correlation analysis investigated the relationship between serum metabolites and clinical laboratory indicators. RESULTS The fatigue severity of MM patients whose family members participated in the treatment process (group A) was significantly lower than patients whose family members did not participate in the treatment process (group B). There was a statistically significant difference (fatigue severity composite score: t = - 2.729, p = 0.011; fatigue interference composite score: t = - 3.595, p = 0.001). There were no differences between the two groups of patients' gender, age, regarding clinical staging, tumor burden, blood routine, biochemical, or coagulation indexes. There were 11 metabolites, including guanidine acetic acid (GAA), 1-(Methylthio)-1-hexanethiol, isoeucyl-asparagine, L-agaritine, tryptophyl-tyrosine, and betaine, which significantly distinguished the two groups of MM patients. GAA had the strongest correlation with patient fatigue, and the difference was statistically significant (fatigue severity composite score: r = 0.505, p = 0.0044; fatigue interference composite score: r = 0.576, p = 0.0009). The results showed that GAA negatively correlated with albumin (r = - 0.4151, p = 0.0226) and GGT (r = - 0.3766, p = 0.0402). Meanwhile, GAA positively correlated with PT (r = 0.385, p = 0.0473), and the difference was statistically significant. CONCLUSION The study is the first to report that family presence throughout the whole hospitalization may alleviate CRF in MM patients. Moreover, the study evaluated serum metabolites linked to CRF in MM patients and found that CRF has a significant positive correlation with GAA. GAA may be a more sensitive biomarker than liver enzymes, PT, and serum albumin in predicting patient fatigue. While our sample may not represent all MM patients, it proposes a new entry point to help clinicians better identify and treat CRF in MM patients.

Abstract
We investigated the acupoint selection regulations and workable core acupoint combinations in cancer-related anorexia (CA) treatment. The Apriori algorithm, complemented by the FP-growth algorithm, was used to mine association rules based on retrieved randomized control trials (RCTs) and clinical control trials (CCTs). We searched the following databases for acupuncture treatment regimens for CA: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central, Web of Science, WanFang Data, VIP, China Journal Full-Text Database (CNKI), and SinoMed (CBM). We extracted acupoints prescriptions from the 27 enrolled RCTs and CCTs for analysis. There have been 38 acupoints refined from 27 prescriptions. The pinnacle three regularly chosen acupoints were Zusanli (ST36), Zhongwan (RN12), and Sanyinjiao (SP6). We investigated 10 association rules, and the consequences confirmed that {RN4} ≥ {RN12}, {PC6} ≥ {ST36}, {RN12, SP6} ≥ {RN4}, {HT7} ≥ {RN12}, and {DU20} ≥ {RN12} had been the most frequent associated rules in the adoption literature. Zusanli (ST36), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Guanyuan (RN4), Zhongwan (RN12), Neiguan (PC6), Shenmen (HT7), and Baihui (DU20) would be regarded as acupuncture prescriptions in the treatment of CA.

Abstract
Objective. In this study, a prognostic model for the respiratory function was constructed based on the treatment methods of patients with nonsevere pulmonary infection, aiming to provide a reference for clinical decision-making. Method. A total of 500 patients with nonsevere pulmonary infection were included in this study. The patients were randomized into training set (
) and validation set (
), and the baseline characteristics were collected. All patients received breathing exercises or breathing exercises combined with acupuncture therapy for 3 months, and then the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1)/forced vital capacity (FVC) was assessed. Next, an ordinal multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze prognostic factors affecting respiratory function of patients with nonsevere pulmonary infection. The Test of Parallel Lines was used to determine the accuracy (ACC) of the model and screen the influencing factors. The confusion matrix was drawn, and the ACC and harmonic mean (F1 score) were calculated to evaluate the feasibility of the model results. Results. Results of the ordinal multinomial logistic regression model showed that age (

), underlying diseases (

) were independent factors affecting the respiratory function of patients in the training set. The ACC value of the training set was 88.86%, and that of the validation set was 91.33%, indicating a high accuracy and favorable predictive ability of the model. Besides, the F1 score was 62.38%, indicating a high reliability of the model. Conclusion. The prognostic model for respiratory function of patients with nonsevere pulmonary infection constructed in this study had favorable predictive performance, which is of great significance in the clinical nursing and treatment of patients with pulmonary infection.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women and is a serious threat to women's health. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a distressing symptom in BC patients during and after chemotherapy or radiation therapy that severely affects quality of life (QoL). AT is widely used for fatigue management. However, the effect of AT on CRF is still uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of AT in the management of CRF in patients with BC. Eleven databases were searched through June 2022. Two researchers independently performed the database search, study selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment. Study selection was performed based on predefined Participants, Intervention, Comparators, Outcomes, Study design (PICOS) criteria, and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed when reporting the results. A meta-analysis was performed according to the Cochrane systematic review method using RevMan 5.3. A total of 12 studies including a total of 1084 participants were included. The results showed that AT had a beneficial effect compared with sham AT (n = 256, SMD = -0.26, 95% CI [-0.51, -0.01], p = 0.04, I2 = 0%) and a long-term effect on fatigue score (n = 209, MD = -0.32, 95% CI [-0.59, -0.04], p = 0.02, I2 = 0%). Meta-analysis showed that AT had a beneficial effect compared with usual care (UC) on fatigue scores (n = 238, SMD = -0.39, 95% CI [-0.66 to -0.12], p = 0.005, I2 = 0%). Of the 12 articles, 3 articles were judged as having a low risk of bias in all domains and hence were of high quality. No serious adverse effects were identified. AT is an effective and safe treatment for CRF, and AT is more effective than sham AT or UC or wait-list control (WLC). Nevertheless, the methodological quality of most of these studies was low, and the included studies/sample sizes were small, so the ability to derive decisive implications was limited. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Purpose This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to assess the effects of acupuncture on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in adults with lung cancer. Methods Electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (CQVIP), Wanfang Data, SinoMed, and gray literatures were retrieved from inception to 1 July 2022 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Acupuncture was defined as an experimental intervention, and the patients of the control groups included either treatment including conventional therapy (usual care, sham/placebo acupuncture, pharmacotherapy including Western medicine and Chinese traditional medicine). PROs for this study were measured by seven scales of primary outcomes including the Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lung, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Lung Cancer Subscale, Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ score), the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) item short form health survey (SF-36), and the St George’s Respiratory Questionnaire, and 12 scales of secondary outcomes. Cochrane Collaboration’s tool was used to assess the risks of bias. Data were combined and analyzed with RevMan 5.4 and Stata/SE 16.0. Results We retrieved 3,002 lung cancer patients from 33 trials. KPS included with 1,000 patients showed that acupuncture could significantly improve the quality of life (QOL) compared with the control group regardless of different tumor–node–metastasis stages or the different stages of disease. The study showed that acupuncture significantly improved lung cancer–related symptoms in the QOL, pain, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, anxiety and depression, fatigue, and constipation compared with the control group. Eight RCTs reported the occurrence of adverse events, whereas four reported none and four RCTs reported that the events in the observation group were significantly less than those in the control group. Conclusion Acupuncture proved to be a promising intervention, both postoperatively and after chemotherapy, and should be recommended as a beneficial alternative strategy to promote PROs in lung cancer patients at all stages of application. Considering the low quality, we suggest more rigorous clinical trials of acupuncture for lung cancer in the future and more emphasis on the effect of acupuncture in patients with lung cancer on their PROs, mainly in the aspect of the QOL. Abstract
Objective The present study aimed to examine the feasibility and preliminary effects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on fatigue interference and health-related quality of life in patients with advanced lung cancer. Methods In a single-blinded, parallel-group randomized controlled trial, 40 patients with advanced lung cancer were randomized to either the intervention group, which received the four-session individual ACT in 4 weeks, or the control group, which received usual care. The outcomes were evaluated at baseline and one week postintervention. Results Intervention feasibility and acceptability were established with a high attendance rate of 88.75% and a high retention rate of 75%. Approximately 95% of the participants reported satisfaction with the intervention. Despite the insignificant effects on fatigue interference, statistically significant interactions effects of ACT for health-related quality of life (P = 0.001), cancer-related fatigue (P < 0.001), depressive symptoms (P < 0.001), anxiety (P < 0.001), and distress (P = 0.003) were noted. Conclusions This pilot trial supports the feasibility and acceptability of conducting ACT for patients with advanced lung cancer. The findings show the potential positive effects of ACT on health-related quality of life. Future studies with full-scale samples are recommended to evaluate the long-term effects of ACT on fatigue interference.

Abstract
Now cancer-related fatigue is gradually being emphasized, which is a common symptom in cancer patients. During long-term radiotherapy, the emotion of patients will be affected directly, and inevitably produce cancer-caused fatigue needle symptoms. Moreover, the weakness and fatigue are always produced simultaneously, which are harmful to patients' prognosis level of their overall survival quality. The acupuncture has a helpful effect on improving the Chinese medical evidence of side effects caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy in tumor patients. In this paper, we model the effect of acupuncture on cancer fatigue after chemotherapy in gynecologic oncology patients through data analysis, so as to effectively analyze the degree of cancer fatigue after chemotherapy in patients.

Abstract
Background. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a painful, persistent feeling of physical and cognitive subjective fatigue related to cancer or cancer remedy. The occurrence of CRF may be related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenaline (HPA) axis, inflammatory mediator theory, and gut microbiota. Moreover, acupuncture could play a vital part in the therapy of CRF. The study will evaluate whether acupuncture can improve fatigue symptoms of CRF patients after breast cancer chemotherapy by regulating the gut-brain axis. Methods/design. Seventy patients with CRF will be enrolled in this study, with 35 patients randomly assigned to each group. Blood and feces will be collected at the beginning and end of treatment. Piper fatigue scale, KPS score scale, and quality-of-life scale will be used to observe the changes of fatigue symptoms and life quality of CRF patients and to evaluate the effect of acupuncture on CRF. Then, the method of ELISA will be used to explore the regulatory effect of acupuncture on the HPA axis and inflammatory cytokines. Moreover, based on 16SrDNA, the changes of gut microbiota structure and flora of CRF patients will be observed. Ultimately, the correlation analysis of gut microbiota can be related to inflammatory cytokines, HPA axis, and clinical efficacy evaluation. Discussion. This study will identify the effect and the mechanism of acupuncture therapy in CRF. And it will offer an alternative treatment modality for the treatment of CRF after chemotherapy for breast cancer. Furthermore, it will also provide the clinical and theoretical bases for the extensive application of acupuncture therapy in tumor rehabilitation. Trial Status. Abstract
Aim We sought to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture in treating the main symptoms of primary Sjögren's syndrome, specifically dryness, pain, and fatigue. Methods A total of 120 patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome were randomized in a parallel-group, controlled trial. Participants received acupuncture or sham acupuncture for the first 8 weeks, then were followed for 16 weeks thereafter. The primary outcome was the proportion of participants with a ≥ 30% reduction in ≥ 2 of 3 numeric analog scale scores for dryness, pain, and fatigue. The secondary outcomes included the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Sjögren's Syndrome Patient-reported Index (ESSPRI); the EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index; the Schirmer test score; unstimulated saliva flow; serum immunoglobulin G, A, and M concentrations; the Medical Outcome Study Short Form 36 score; salivary gland ultrasound imaging; and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale score. Results The proportions of patients meeting the primary endpoint were 28.33% (17/60) in the acupuncture group and 31.66% (19/60) in the sham group, without a statistically significant difference (P = 0.705). The IgG concentration at week 16 and the homogeneity in ultrasonography of the salivary glands at week 8 showed significant differences between the 2 groups (P = 0.0490 and P = 0.0334, respectively). No other differences were observed between the 2 groups. ESSPRI and unstimulated saliva flow were improved in both groups compared to baseline, albeit with a significant difference between them. Conclusion In patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome, acupuncture did not satisfactorily improve symptoms compared to placebo. However, interesting discoveries and possible underlying reasons were demonstrated and discussed, which may be useful to studies in the future. Abstract
BACKGROUND Acupuncture is frequently used to treat the side effects of cancer treatment, but the safety of this intervention remains uncertain. The current meta-analysis was conducted to assess the safety of acupuncture in oncological patients. METHODS The PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus databases were searched from their inception to August 7, 2020. Randomized controlled trials in oncological patients comparing invasive acupuncture with sham acupuncture, treatment as usual (TAU), or any other active control were eligible. Two reviewers independently extracted data on study characteristics and adverse events (AEs). Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. RESULTS Of 4590 screened articles, 65 were included in the analyses. The authors observed that acupuncture was not associated an with increased risk of intervention-related AEs, nonserious AEs, serious AEs, or dropout because of AEs compared with sham acupuncture and an active control. Compared with TAU, acupuncture was not associated with an increased risk of intervention-related AEs, serious AEs, or drop out because of AEs but was associated with an increased risk for nonserious AEs (odds ratio, 3.94; 95% confidence interval, 1.16-13.35; P = .03). However, the increased risk of nonserious AEs compared with TAU was not robust against selection bias. The meta-analyses may have been biased because of the insufficient reporting of AEs in the original randomized controlled trials. CONCLUSIONS The current review indicates that acupuncture is as safe as sham acupuncture and active controls in oncological patients. The authors recommend researchers heed the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) safety and harm extension for reporting to capture the side effects and better investigate the risk profile of acupuncture in oncology. LAY SUMMARY According to this analysis, acupuncture is a safe therapy for the treatment of patients with cancer. Acupuncture seems to be safe compared with sham acupuncture and active controls.

Abstract
In addition to cancer-related death, malignant progression also leads to a series of symptoms and side-effects, which would detrimentally affect cancer patients' the quality of life, adversely influence their adherence to treatments, and, therefore, negatively affect their long-term survival. Acupuncture and electroacupuncture (EA), as two classic treatment methods in traditional Chinese medicine, have been widely employed to cure various diseases. Recently, the clinical application of acupuncture and EA in cancer patients has received great attention. In this review, we summarized the clinical application of acupuncture and EA in alleviating the cancer symptoms, reducing the cancer treatment-related side-effects, and relieving the cancer pain. The symptoms and side-effects discussed in this review include fatigue, insomnia, chemotherapy-associated dyspepsia syndrome (CADS), pain, xerostomia, and anxiety and depression. The underlying mechanisms of the therapeutic effects of acupuncture and EA might be related to the regulation of the mitochondrial function, coordination of the activity of the nervous system, adjustment of the production of neurotransmitters, and alleviation of the immune responses. In conclusion, acupuncture and EA have been proved to be beneficial for cancer patients. More research, however, is required to clarify the potential mechanisms behind acupuncture and EA for widespread adoption in clinical application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers, the symptoms and treatment of which can cause negative emotions like anxiety, depression, and cancer-related fatigue (CRF). Nonpharmacological interventions, serving as alternative therapies, can greatly alleviate CRF in lung cancer patients. Previous meta-analyses have reported nonpharmacological interventions of CRF in lung cancer patients, but the results may be conflicting, and the reporting and methodological qualities remain unknown. Moreover, there is limited evidence to identify efficient and safe non-pharmacological interventions of CRF in lung cancer patients. This study aims to assess the therapeutic efficacy of nonpharmacological interventions of CRF in lung cancer patients through a network meta-analysis. METHODS Relevant literatures reporting non-pharmacological interventions of CRF in lung cancer patients published before June 2021 will be searched in online databases, including Wanfang, VP Information Chinese Journal Service Platform, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese BioMedicine Literature Database, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of science. Two reviewers will be independently responsible for study selection, quality appraisal, and data extraction. Data analysis will be performed using the STATA14.0 and GEMTC 0.14.3 software. RESULTS This meta-analysis will provide additional and stronger evidences for nonpharmacological interventions of CRF in lung cancer patients. Our findings will be conductive to make therapeutic decisions by clinicians. CONCLUSION This study will provide a reliable evidence-based basis for non-pharmacological interventions of CRF in lung cancer patients. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval was not required for this study. The systematic review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, presented at conferences, and shared on social media platforms. Abstract
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are the standard of care for the treatment of several cancers. While these immunotherapies have improved patient outcomes in many clinical settings, they bring accompanying risks of toxicity, specifically immune-related adverse events (irAEs). There is a need for clear, effective guidelines for the management of irAEs during ICI treatment, motivating the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) to convene an expert panel to develop a clinical practice guideline. The panel discussed the recognition and management of single and combination ICI irAEs and ultimately developed evidence- and consensus-based recommendations to assist medical professionals in clinical decision-making and to improve outcomes for patients.

Abstract
Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death before the age of 70. Improved cancer survival has put increasing demands on cancer care. Palliative care is the specialized multi-disciplinary care providing relief from the pain, symptoms, and stress of serious illness. The study aims to evaluate the adjunctive effect of acupuncture for advanced cancer patients in a collaborative model of palliative care. Methods/Design: This is a single-blinded, randomized, sham-controlled trial. One hundred twenty advanced cancer patients undergoing palliative care will be randomized in a ratio of 2:1:1 to manual acupuncture plus standard care group (ASC), sham acupuncture plus standard care group (SSC), and standard care group (SC). Patients in ASC and SSC will receive 9 sessions of acupuncture or sham acupuncture for 3 weeks, and will be followed up for 2 months. The primary measure is the change from baseline score of the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System at 3 weeks. The secondary measures include the Brief Fatigue Inventory, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Insomnia Severity Index, Numeric Rating Scale, and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life 15 items Questionnaire for Palliative Care. Discussion: The finding of this trial will provide high-quality evidence on the adjunctive effect of acupuncture to standard care on advanced cancer patients undergoing palliative care. Abstract
Objective: To provide higher level evidence on the benefits of a Chinese patent medicine (CPM) (Fufang E’jiao Syrup, FFEJS) for alleviating cancer-related fatigue (CRF), this article describes a protocol for a randomized controlled trial. Methods/design: We designed a double-blind, placebo-controlled stratified permuted block randomization clinical trial on CRF among 3 types of cancer in China. Participants will be equally allocated to FFEJS group or placebo group according to the randomization sequence and the hospitals they were enrolled at. Each patient will receive 20 ml of either the study formula FFEJS or a placebo formula, 3 times a day for 6 weeks. The follow-up period will be another 4 weeks for safety evaluation. The primary outcome is the difference in improvement of fatigue as measured with the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale-Chinese Version (RPFS-CV). Secondary outcomes include change in fatigue (measured by routine blood panel and hormones in peripheral blood) and QoL (measured by Edmonton symptom assessment scale and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy). Patient safety will be measured by liver, renal or cardiac damage, and the risk of FFEJS having a tumor promotion and progression effect will be monitored throughout this study. Cost-effectiveness will also be evaluated mainly by incremental cost per each quality-adjusted life year gained. Discussion: This article describes the study design of a CPM for CRF in patients with advanced cancer through exploring the effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of FFEJS. Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with cancer are often impacted by a significant symptom burden. Cancer hospitals increasingly recognize the value of complementary and integrative therapies to support the management of cancer related symptoms. The aim of this study is to provide a better understanding of the demographic characteristics and symptoms experienced by cancer patients who access acupuncture services in a tertiary hospital in Australia. METHODS A retrospective audit was conducted of patients that presented to the acupuncture service at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse between July 2017 and December 2018. Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) and Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing (MYCaW) outcome measures were used. The quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Principal Component Analysis. RESULTS A total of 127 inpatients and outpatients (mean age 55, range 19-85) were included with 441 individual surveys completed (264 ESAS, 177 MYCaW). Patients were predominantly female (76.8%) and breast cancer was the most prevalent primary diagnosis (48%). The most prevalent symptoms in the ESAS were sleep problems (88.6%), fatigue (88.3%), lack of wellbeing (88.1%), and memory difficulty (82.6%). Similarly, symptoms with the highest mean scores were numbness, fatigue, sleep problems and hot flushes, whilst neuropathy, and hot flashes were scored as the most severe (score ≥7) by patients. Cluster analysis yielded 3 symptom clusters, 2 included "physical symptoms" (pain, sleep problems, fatigue and numbness/neuropathy), and (nausea, appetite, general well-being), whilst the third included "psychological" symptoms (anxiety, depression, spiritual pain, financial distress). The most frequent concerns expressed by patients (MyCaW) seeking acupuncture were side effects of chemotherapy (24.6%) and pain (20.8%). CONCLUSION This audit highlights the most prevalent symptoms, the symptoms with the greatest burden and the types of patients that receive acupuncture services at an Australian tertiary hospital setting. The findings of this audit provide direction for future acupuncture practices and research in hospital settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common psychosomatic problem in breast cancer patients. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to address symptoms in patients with CRF. Identification of the specific constitution in TCM is essential for personalized care. AIM To explore the relationship between fatigue and specific constitutions in breast cancer. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE We conducted a cross-sectional study in all breast cancer patients at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. The severity of fatigue was determined using the Brief Fatigue Inventory-Taiwanese (BFI-T) form. TCM patterns were determined using the Body Constitution Questionnaire (BCQ). The relationship between constitution and fatigue was analyzed using logistic regression. RESULTS We recruited 110 breast cancer patients with fatigue (mean age: 55 ± 11 years). The mean duration of breast cancer was 17.4 months. The major constitution among these patients with fatigue was Yang-Qi deficiency (50%). Phlegm-Stasis syndrome was correlated with a duration of breast cancer of more than 18 months (p = 0.02). Out of all participants, 42.7% (n = 47) reported clinically significant fatigue (BFI-T score ≥4). According to logistic regression, the score of Yang-Qi deficiency [odds ratio (OR): 3.5, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.49-8.21, p < 0.01] was also associated with clinically significant fatigue. CONCLUSION Yang-Qi deficiency is associated with clinically significant fatigue in breast cancer patients. However, the association of Phlegm-Stasis syndrome and fatigue as disease duration increases cannot be ignored. Further studies are needed to determine whether treating both constitutions integrating TCM treatment can alleviate patients' fatigue symptoms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Autologous blood acupoint injection has practiced for treatment of various diseases, but its therapeutic mechanism remains unknown. This study aimed to explore the histological changes in the acupoint area after blood injection. METHODS Blood samples (0.1 mL) collected from donator mice was injected in the recipient mice at the acupoint of left Zusanli (ST- 36). At 0, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h after the injection (3 mice at each time point), peripheral blood and muscular tissue were collected from the injection site for blood cell classification and histological study with HE staining. RESULTS White blood cells and lymphocytes tended to increase but platelets tended to decrease at the acupoint after blood injection, but these changes were not statistically significant. Within 24 h after blood injection, acute inflammation occurred at the acupoint, and the injected blood components were infiltrated by neutrophils; a small number of monocytes were observed at the injection site, where red blood cells gradually disappeared. From 24 to 96 h, the injected area showed chronic inflammation with infiltration by mononuclear cells, macrophages, and lymphocytes, and the number of fibroblasts increased and neutrophils decreased gradually over time; the local muscle fibers were destroyed, and proliferation of fibrous tissue could be seen. CONCLUSIONS Blood injection at the acupoints can mimic the process of hematoma absorption in the muscular tissue, and local inflammation is initiated to engulf and clear the blood components, which may be the basis for the therapeutic effects induced by acupoint stimulation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is considered a common complication of cancer or cancer treatment, which has a serious adverse effect on the life and of cancer patients, leading to a decline in their quality of life (QoL). The existing clinical trials revealed that acupuncture has a positive effect on CRF, and there are fewer adverse events confirmed in the corresponding systematic review. However, in recent years, new studies on using acupuncture to treat CRF were conducted, so in order to evaluate its efficacy, an updated systematic review. This protocol provides research methods for systematic review and meta-analysis of the safety and effectiveness of acupuncture for the treatment of CRF. METHODS We will searched the randomized controlled trial literature of acupuncture treatment for CRF in 4 English and 4 Chinese databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Central), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biomedical Literature Database(CBM), China Science Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang Database. Simultaneously, other resources are manually retrieved which include reference lists of identified publications, conference articles, and grey literature. We also included the clinical randomized controlled trials of acupuncture treatment for CRF in the study. The search language is limited to Chinese and English. Two trained reviewers independently completed research screening, data extraction, and research quality assessment. RevMan (V.5.3) software was used to perform data statistical analysis and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) was used to evaluate the quality of evidence. RESULTS This study is based on past and present clinical evidence to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture treatment for CRF. CONCLUSION Through this systematic review, we will provide the latest high-quality evidence of whether acupuncture treatment for CRF is effective and safe and also provide a theoretical basis for clinicians to choose acupuncture for the treatment of CRF. Abstract
Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common symptom for which cancer patients often use integrative and integrative therapies; however, evidence supporting these therapies is limited. The aim of this review is to provide evidence-based recommendations for integrative interventions during and after cancer treatment for CRF. These recommendations are based on a systematic literature review from 1990 through 2019. Cognitive behavior therapy plus hypnosis and American ginseng can be considered during active treatment, and acupressure, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and qigong/tai chi easy can be considered during posttreatment. Coenzyme Q10 and L-carnitine are not recommended during active-treatment. All other integrative therapies for CRF had insufficient evidence to make a recommendation. While there is increasing evidence for integrative therapies for CRF, because of lack of rigorous trials and replication, no therapies could be definitively recommended. Further rigorously designed integrative therapy research is needed and should consider implementation and dissemination.

Abstract
Background: Pediatric brain tumor (PBT) survivors and their families are at risk for diminished psychosocial and quality of life outcomes. Community-based programs that leverage peer support in the context of integrative modalities such as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) represent a promising avenue for meeting the multidimensional needs of survivors and their families. Methods: Parents and children were enrolled in a 12-week program that included weekly group TCM, a moderated private Facebook support group designed through social support and modeling theory, and weekly parent-only health behavior education and yoga. Process measures and quantitative and qualitative survey data was collected to gauge participant adherence, acceptability, and satisfaction, as well as exploratory outcomes. Results: Eleven parents completed surveys at all time points. Six of nine families attended at least 80% of the group TCM sessions, and eight of nine families interacted in the Facebook support group at least five days a week. Parents reported high levels of satisfaction and perceived benefits for the program. Baseline emotional distress, health behaviors, and QoL measurements improved during the three-month intervention. Qualitative data indicated parents perceived both in-person and the Facebook group peer support contributed to the benefits of the program. Conclusion: This feasibility study demonstrated that a multimodal peer support-based intervention that included in-person and online group interaction is feasible and acceptable to parents of pediatric brain tumor patients. Further research on interventions for caregivers that include in-person and online group-based peer support is warranted, with the goal of exploring similar outcomes in other childhood cancer diagnoses.

Abstract
Background Chemotherapy-related fatigue (CRF) is a common symptom in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. A Chinese herbal formula cream for oral application, called Jianpishengsui (JPSS), is extensively used in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine as an internal preparation for CRF and is associated with a promising response. Due to the lack of high-quality clinical evidence, a randomized placebo-controlled trial is required to assess the efficacy and safety of JPSS. Methods/design The efficacy and safety of JPSS herbal formula cream will be evaluated through a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled trial conducted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. NSCLC patients with CRF will be randomized into two groups at a ratio of 1:1. Each group will receive either 15 g of the oral JPSS herbal formula cream or placebo twice a day from day 6 to day 20 during two courses of paclitaxel + platinum/docetaxel + platinum/pemetrexed + platinum (TP/DP/AP) chemotherapy. The primary endpoint is the difference in the degree of fatigue between baseline (the day before the start of the intervention) and day 42, which will be assessed by the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale score. The secondary endpoints are quality of life (measured by the 43-item European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire—Lung Cancer C43), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status, and Traditional Chinese Medicine syndrome score. The toxicity of the treatments will also be evaluated at the same time. All outcomes will be measured at baseline, day 6, day 21, and day 42 of the treatment. Discussion This randomized trial will investigate the efficacy and safety of JPSS applied for CRF in patients with NSCLC. Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR1900023451. Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have identified fatigue as one of the major symptoms experienced during and after cancer treatment. However, there are limited options to manage cancer related fatigue (CRF) with pharmacological interventions. Several acupuncture studies suggested that acupuncture has a positive impact on CRF. This review aims to assess the evidence of acupuncture for the treatment of CRF. METHOD Electronic database searches were conducted on 4 English databases (Medline, PubMed, Embase, and ScienceDirect). Search keywords were; "acupuncture" and "cancer," or "cancer related fatigue." Studies published as full text randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in English were included. Estimates of change in fatigue cores were pooled using a random effects meta-analysis where randomized comparisons were available for true acupuncture versus sham acupuncture and true acupuncture versus usual care. The quality of original papers were assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias (ROB). RESULTS Nine RCTs were selected for review with a total of 809 participants and a range of 13 to 302 participants within the studies. Six RCTs reported significant improvement of CRF for the acupuncture intervention compared to the control groups. Pooled estimates suggest Brief Fatigue Inventory scores are 0.93 points lower 95% CI (-1.65, -0.20) in true acupuncture versus sham acupuncture and 2.12 points lower 95% C (-3.21, -1.04) in true acupuncture versus usual care. Six studies had low risk of bias (ROB) and 3 studies had a moderate ROB predominantly in blinding of participants, blinding of assessors and incomplete data outcomes. Among the 9 RCTs, 2 studies have reported the occurrence of minor adverse effects (spot bleeding and bruising) related to acupuncture treatment. No serious adverse reactions related to acupuncture were reported. CONCLUSION The current literature review suggests that acupuncture has therapeutic potential in management of CRF for cancer survivors. Promotion of acupuncture in cancer care to manage CRF may improve the quality of life of cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue is one of the primary symptoms in lung cancer, with a prevalence of 88.0% in survivors of cancer, and an even higher prevalence post resection surgery. Effective fatigue control after lung cancer surgery is important for patient recovery and quality of life. Some studies have shown that acupuncture might be effective in treating cancer-related fatigue; however, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of suitable sample size are limited. METHOD/DESIGN This is a multi-center, patient-blinded RCT. A total of 320 eligible patients will be recruited in four centers and randomly assigned to either the acupuncture group or the sham acupuncture group in a 1:1 ratio. Treatment will be given twice per week for 12 sessions. Treatment will be given at acupoints GV20, GV29, CV12, CV6, CV4, and bilateral LI4, LR3, SP6, ST36. The primary outcome will be assessed using the Chinese version of The Brief Fatigue Inventory. The secondary outcomes will be measured using The European Organization for Research and The Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression. The primary outcome will be assessed at all main points (baseline, the 3rd week, the 6th week, and at follow up time points) and the secondary outcomes will be assessed at baseline and the 6th week. Intention-to-treat analysis will be used in this RCT. DISCUSSION This trial protocol provides an example of the clinical application acupuncture treatment in the management of lung cancer-related fatigue. If the acupuncture treatment protocol confirms that acupuncture is an effective and safe option for lung cancer-related fatigue, it can be adopted as a standardized treatment. Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common symptom among patients with cancer. The efficacy of placebo, however, was never the main objective of any meta-analysis. Predicting the efficacy of placebo may facilitate researchers in designing future clinical trials for the treatment of CRF. METHODS We performed a systematic review searching for prospective clinical trials comparing any treatment versus placebo for the treatment of CRF. We included studies that enrolled patients with any primary site of neoplasia and any stage of cancer. We excluded all studies that assessed fatigue related to any treatment. The primary endpoint of this study is the mean effect of placebo on fatigue according to the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness (FACIT-F) and Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) scales. The secondary endpoint was the proportion of patients who reported improvement in fatigue (response rate). RESULTS We found 520 studies, and 29 studies with 3758 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Placebo had a mean effect of + 4.88 (95%CI + 2.45 to + 7.29) using the FACIT-F scale, although it was statistically worse than the interventions studied (p = 0.005). Using the BFI scale, placebo had an average effect of + 0.64 (95%CI + 0.02 to + 1.30), although it was also worse than the other interventions studied (p = 0.002). In terms of the response rate, 29% (95%CI 25-32%) of patients taking a placebo reported a significant improvement in CRF compared with 36% of patients treated with other interventions (p = 0.030). CONCLUSIONS Placebo treatments had a significant effect on CRF, and predicting these effects may help design future studies for CRF.

Abstract
RATIONALE Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a persistent, subjective sense of tiredness or exhaustion experienced by cancer patients. Acupuncture is a safe and feasible optional method for adjunctive treatment for CRF. However, the therapeutic effect of the Fatigue Three-Needle acupuncture therapy in patients with CRF has not been well-investigated. PATIENT CONCERNS A 53-year-old woman had been experiencing fatigue since the radical resection of sigmoid colon cancer 2 years ago, for which she underwent traditional Chinese medicine treatment. DIAGNOSIS After some review, she was diagnosed with CRF. Although she underwent traditional Chinese medicine treatment, she continued experiencing fatigue symptoms. INTERVENTIONS When she visited our hospital, she was treated with the Fatigue Three-Needle for 3 sessions a week, 30 minutes per session. OUTCOMES After 4 weeks of treatment, the patient felt refreshed and relieved from the fatigue. LESSONS The finding from this case provides further evidence for the therapeutic benefits of the Fatigue Three-Needle therapy for patients with CRF, suggesting that acupuncture treatment with the Fatigue Three-Needle is an effective option for patients with CRF.

Abstract
This study uses a questionnaire survey and a driving simulator test to investigate the temporal patterns of variations in driving fatigue and driving performance in 50 male taxi drivers in Hong Kong. Each driver visited the laboratory three times: before, during, and after a working shift. The survey contained a demographic questionnaire and the Brief Fatigue Inventory. A following-braking simulator test session was conducted at two speeds (50 and 80 km/h) by each driver at each of his three visits, and the driver's performance in brake reaction, lane control, speed control, and steering control were recorded. A random-effects modeling approach was incorporated to address the unobserved heterogeneity caused by the repeated measures. In the results, a recovery effect and a lagging effect were defined for the driving fatigue and performance measures because their temporal patterns were concavely quadratic and had a 1-hour delay compared to the temporal patterns of occupied taxi trips and taxi crash risk in Hong Kong. Demographic variables, such as net income and driver age, also had significant effects on the measured driving fatigue and performance. Policies regarding taxi management and operation based on the modeling results are proposed to alleviate the taxi safety situation in Hong Kong and worldwide.

Abstract
This study retrospectively investigated the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) for fatigue management in patients with advanced laryngeal cancer (ALC) receiving chemoradiotherapy.A total of 60 eligible patients with ALC receiving chemoradiotherapy were included. These patients were assigned equally to a treatment group and a control group. Patients in the treatment group received NMES therapy and were treated for a total of 8 weeks, while the patients in the control group did not receive NMES therapy. The primary outcome was fatigue, measured by the multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI). The secondary outcomes included anxiety and depression, measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and sleep quality, measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). All outcomes were evaluated before and after 8-week NMES treatmentAfter 8-week NMES treatment, the patients in the treatment group did not exert better effect than patients in the control group in fatigue relief, measured by the MFI score, anxiety and depression decrease, assessed by HADS, and sleep quality improvement, evaluated by PSQI.The results of this study demonstrate that NMES may not benefit for fatigue relief in patients with ALC receiving chemoradiotherapy. Future studies should still focus on this topic and warrant these results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the impact of integrative medicine (IM) on cancer-related fatigue in patients undergoing chemotherapy for early and advanced breast and gynecological (ovarian, endometrial, and cervical) cancer. METHODS Patients reporting significant levels of fatigue (on the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30), or Measure Yourself Concerns and Wellbeing questionnaire (MYCAW)) were offered complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) treatments in addition to standard supportive care. Patients who did not undergo IM treatments were designated as controls. Attending at least five CIM treatments less than 30 days between each session was considered as high adherence to integrative care (AIC). RESULTS Of 258 eligible patients reporting significant fatigue, follow-up assessment at 6 and 12 weeks was considered optimal for 120 patients in the intervention group and for 64 controls; 88 of treated patients found to be adherent to the IM intervention. At 12 weeks, ESAS (P < 0.001) and EORTC (p = 0.001) scores for fatigue improved more significantly in treated patients, with a higher percent with optimal relative dose intensity in the AIC subgroup, both at 6 weeks (P = 0.002) and at 12 weeks (P < 0.001). IM treatment was paradoxically associated with a greater decrease in hemoglobin levels at 12 weeks (P = 0.016), more so in the AIC subgroup (P = 0.024). CONCLUSION Integrative medicine program may alleviate cancer-related fatigue in patients with breast and gynecological cancer undergoing chemotherapy.
