Abstract
To assess the feasibility of percutaneous pedicle screw fixation assisted by a fully automated orthopedic robotic system for the treatment of isthmic spondylolisthesis and evaluate its early postoperative outcome. Totally 20 patients with isthmic spondylolisthesis who underwent surgical procedure by the same medical group from March 2020 to March 2023 were retrospectively analyzed, including 10 patients in the robot-assisted group (RA group) and the other 10 patients in the conventional free-hand technique group (FH group). Accuracy of screw insertion was determined using the Gertzbein-Robbins Scale. The accuracy of the novel robotic system was evaluated by comparing the screw position in the preoperative planning and measuring the entry point deviation distance and the trajectory rotation. The differences in operative time, intraoperative blood loss, radiographic fluoroscopy time and fluoroscopic dosage, and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups. The lumbar visual analog scale scores before and 7 days after operation were analyzed to evaluate the improvement of low back pain as the early postoperative outcome. A total of 84 pedicle screws were placed. In the RA group, 97.5% of screws were Grade A, and 2.5% were Grade B. In the FH group, 88.6% of screws were Grade A, 9.1% were Grade B, and 2.3% were Grade C. No statistical difference was found in the operation time between two groups. The RA group showed a significant reduction in intraoperative blood loss, radiographic fluoroscopy time and fluoroscopic dosage, and length of hospital stay compared to the FH group. The low back pain in both groups was significantly improved after the operation. The novel orthopedic robotic system-assisted percutaneous pedicle screw fixation, with accurate intraoperative screw placement, less surgical damage, less fluoroscopy and shorter length of hospital stay, can be safe and effective for the surgical treatment of isthmic spondylolisthesis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the national and regional trend in the prevalence of lumbar spondylolysis and isthmic spondylolisthesis for adolescent males in South Korea from 2015 to 2022. METHODS A total of 2,666,277 Korean adolescent males were routinely examined at regional Military Manpower Administration offices. The data gathered from Military Manpower Administration were retrospectively collected to measure the prevalence and 95% confidence interval of lumbar spondylolysis and isthmic spondylolisthesis according to the year and region in South Korea. The Spearman correlation analysis was performed to assess the correlation between lumbar spondylolysis, isthmic spondylolisthesis, and several factors including height, weight, current smoking rate, and occasional and high-risk alcohol consumption. RESULTS The prevalence of spondylolysis per 10,000 individuals showed a gradual increasing trend from 2015 to 2022 On the contrary, the prevalence of isthmic spondylolisthesis per 10,000 individuals decreased over a consecutive 8-year period. There were no statistical differences in the prevalence of spondylolysis and isthmic spondylolisthesis between Greater Seoul and the countryside. The prevalence of isthmic spondylolisthesis was significantly correlated with occasional (r=0.81, P=0.015) and high-risk alcohol consumption (r=0.86, P=0.007). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of lumbar spondylolysis among adolescent men has increased, whereas isthmic spondylolisthesis has shown a decline over a consecutive 8-year period. The trends in prevalence for both lumbar spondylosis and isthmic spondylolisthesis were similar across the regions in South Korea. Notably, there was a significant correlation between the prevalence of isthmic spondylolisthesis and the rate of alcohol consumption in adolescent men.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Lumbar spondylolysis is the most common underlying cause of lower back pain (LBP) in young athletes. Conservative treatment methods are often used to reduce pain and promote healing. Several parameters may affect the duration of conservative treatment, such as the time to return to play (RTP), patient behavior, and physical parameters; however, no study has comprehensively assessed the factors that affect the time to RTP. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to determine the factors associated with the time required for RTP among young athletes with early-stage spondylolysis receiving conservative treatment using structural equation modeling (SEM). METHODS In this retrospective case series, 137 young athletes (128 males and 9 females, aged 9-18 years) with early-stage lumbar spondylolysis were enrolled. All patients were examined using plain radiography and magnetic resonance imaging and treated conservatively (sports cessation, wearing a corset, therapeutic exercises, and low-intensity pulsed ultrasound radiation). SEM was used to investigate the factors affecting the time to RTP in these patients. RESULTS The final model included the following factors: spondylolysis laterality, symptom duration, lower-extremity flexibility, treatment interval, patient adherence, and residual LBP. SEM revealed that patient adherence to physician orders (p < 0.01), treatment interval (p < 0.001), and spondylolysis laterality (p < 0.001) contributed directly to shortened RTP. CONCLUSION Patient adherence is essential for reducing the time to RTP among young athletes receiving conservative treatment for early-stage spondylolysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although direct isthmic repair, such as PSVPH, did not affect the mobility of the fixed segment and adjacent segment, it has a relatively low rate of isthmic fusion compared with conventional fusion. The Isobar TTL dynamic internal fixation system has been widely used in clinical practice and has achieved satisfactory clinical results. However, the use of the Isobar TTL system in combination with direct isthmic repair for lumbar spondylolysis has rarely been reported. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiologic outcomes between patients who underwent Isobar TTL system and PSVPH with direct repair of defect for lumbar spondylolysis. METHODS Stepwise propensity score matching (PSM) for age and sex were performed to keep comparable clinical data between groups in this retrospective and matched-pair case control study. A total of 50 patients diagnosed with lumbar spondylolysis underwent surgical implantation of the Isobar TTL group (n = 25) or PSVPH group (n = 25) from June 2009 to June 2016. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Oswestry disability index (ODI), and visual analog score (VAS). Radiographic evaluations included range of motion (ROM) and the disc heights of stabilized segment and adjacent segment, adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) and bony fusion. Three-dimensional reconstruction of lumbar CT scan was obtained to evaluate bone fusion of the isthmic at final follow-up. The independent Student's t test and chi-square test were applied to compare the differences between groups. RESULTS A total of 25 patients from TTL group were matched to 25 patients in PSVPH group for age, sex, body mass index (BMI), defect side, spondylolisthesis meyerding, and follow-up duration. The intervertebral space height (IH) of stabilized segment at postoperative 1 week and final follow-up in the TTL group was higher than those in the PSVPH group, respectively (P = 0.030; P = 0.013). The ROM of stabilized segment at final follow-up in the TTL group was significantly lower than that in the PSVPH group (P < 0.001). The bony fusion rate at the final follow-up was 88.0% (22/25 cages) in the TTL group and 80.0% (20/25 cages) in the PSVPH group. The ODI score at final follow-up in the TTL group was significantly lower than that in the PSVPH group (P = 0.007). CONCLUSION Overall, our data suggest that the Isobar TTL system outcomes are comparable to those in the PSVPH, with a similar high bony fusion rate as PSVPH, especially its wider indications as a new surgery.

Abstract
Lumbar spondylolysis is one of the most common causes of low back pain and primarily affects children and adolescents. Traditional posterior lumbar fixation and interbody fusion surgery has always been the most effective method to treat spondylolysis. However, traditional surgical management has limitations of large trauma, complex operation, high cost, postoperative biomechanical deterioration, and resulting complications. In order to avoid the trauma and complications of surgical treatment, and reduce the cost of treatment. Based on the successful clinical experience of using staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC) to treat nonunion after a limb fracture, we identified a minimally invasive method to effectively treat lumbar spondylolysis. A novel minimally invasive therapeutic approach is presented herein of an SEC injection guided by C-arm fluoroscopy to treat lumbar spondylolysis. We describe a novel technique applied in a patient with lumbar spondylolysis, who showed significantly improved low back pain symptoms and a computed tomography scan, including osseous fusion of the bilateral isthmus at L4 after SEC therapy. This is the first reported case description of using an SEC injection to treat lumbar spondylolysis with a successful clinical outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low back pain (LBP) is a common chief complaint from athletes. Lumbar spondylolysis (LS) is a common sport injury. Severe LS is likely to cause spinal instability, resulting in lumbar spondylolisthesis or lumbar disc herniation, and even damage to the spinal nerve roots. The incidence of LS is approximately 5% in the adult population, and nearly half of young athletes with LBP are diagnosed with LS. This meta-analysis analyzed the incidence of LS in athletes with LBP. METHODS PubMed, Embase, Cochrane (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials), and Web of Science databases were systematically searched for published case report and retrospective analyses related to the topic from the date of database creation to January 1,2023. Relevant literature was screened and information extracted, and risk of bias was assessed for included studies using the methodological index for non-randomized-studies scale. Single-arm Meta-analysis was performed using R4.04 software. Heterogeneity was quantified by Cochran Q test and Higgins I2. Funnel plots were used to visualize publication bias, and Egger test and Begg test were used to statistical tests. RESULTS A total of 9 studies (835 patients) were included in this study. Meta-analysis revealed that the prevalence of LS in athletes with LBP was estimated at 41.7%, [95% CI = (0.28-0.55)], but this prevalence varied considerably with the gender and age of the athletes. CONCLUSION The estimated prevalence of LS in athletes with LBP is 41.7%, and future correlations between the prevalence of LS in adolescent athletes worldwide need to be assessed from different perspectives, including biomechanical, hormonal, anatomical, behavioral, and gender differences.

Abstract
Spondylolysis is a bony defect of the pars interarticularis and most often results from repetitive stress. Although spondylolysis is usually asymptomatic, symptomatic spondylolysis is the most common cause of identifiable back pain in children and adolescent athletes. A thorough history and physical exam, as well as appropriate imaging studies are helpful in diagnosis. General first-ine therapy for spondylolysis is conservative and consists of rest from sports, core strengthening, as well as spinal bracing. Patients who have failed conservative therapy may consider surgical repair. This article aims to review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, presentation, and treatment options of spondylolysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the findings of focal high signal on T2 weighted (T2W) images of the bone marrow in the axial skeleton as assessed by whole-body MRI in healthy and asymptomatic children and adolescents. MATERIAL AND METHODS We assessed the bone marrow of the mandible, shoulder girdle, thorax, spine, and pelvis on water-only Dixon T2W sequences as part of a whole-body MRI protocol in 196 healthy and asymptomatic children aged 5-19 years. Intensity (0-2 scale) and extension (1-4 scale) of focal high signal areas in the bone marrow were scored and divided into minor or major findings, based on intensity and extension to identify the potentially conspicuous lesions in a clinical setting. RESULTS We registered 415 areas of increased signal in the axial skeleton whereof 75 (38.3%) were major findings. Fifty-eight (29.6%) individuals had at least one major finding, mainly located in the pelvis (54, 72%). We found no differences according to gender. The number of minor findings increased with age (p = 0.020), but there were no significant differences in the number of major findings. The most conspicuous findings were in the pelvis, spine and sternum. CONCLUSION Non-specific bone marrow T2W hyperintensities in the axial skeleton are frequently detected on whole-body MRI in healthy, asymptomatic children. Awareness of this is important as some findings may resemble clinically silent lesions in children with suspected multifocal skeletal disease.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A retrospective, single-center, observational study. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and the characteristics of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients with concomitant lumbar spondylolysis. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA The prevalence and features of lumbar spondylolysis in patients with AIS are unclear. METHODS We included 357 patients with AIS who underwent correction and fusion surgery. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) images were used to assess the existence of lumbar spondylolysis. Cobb angles of the curves, parameters of spinal alignment, Lenke classification, and the presence of low back pain were compared between patients with and without spondylolysis. RESULTS Of the patients included in the study, 6.1% had lumbar spondylolysis. They had significantly greater lumbar lordosis (LL) and sacral slope (SS) than those without lumbar spondylolysis. Logistic regression analyses and receiver-operating characteristic curves showed that LL was a significant risk factor (odds ratio: 1.059; 95% confidence interval: 1.018-1.103; P = 0.005) of associating lumbar spondylolysis with a cut off value of 56.5 degrees (area under the curve [AUC]: 0.689; sensitivity = 63.6%, specificity = 71.0%). CONCLUSION We should be vigilant for lumbar spondylolysis in AIS patients whose LL and SS are large, especially with LL larger than 56.5°.Level of Evidence: 3.

Abstract
Purpose To assess the prevalence of incidentally detected lumbar spondylolysis in children. Materials and Methods We retrospectively reviewed the data of 809 patients under the age of 11 years (mean age, 7.0 ± 2.7 years; boys:girls = 479:330) who underwent abdominal and pelvic CT between March 2014 and December 2018. We recorded the presence, level, and laterality (unilateral or bilateral) of spondylolysis. Patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of spondylolysis: the spondylolysis (SP) and non-SP groups. Results In total, 21 cases of spondylolysis were detected in 20 patients (20/809, 2.5%). The mean age of the SP group was higher than that of the non-SP group (7.8 ± 1.8 vs. 6.9 ± 2.7 years, p > 0.05). The prevalence of spondylolysis in boys was higher than that in girls (15/479 [3.1%] vs. 5/330 [1.5%], p > 0.05). The prevalence of spondylolysis in school-age children (6–10 year olds) was higher than that in preschool-age children (0–5 year olds) (17/538 [3.2%] vs. 3/271 [1.1%], p > 0.05). L5 was the most common level of spondylolysis (76.2%); one 8-year-old boy had twolevel spondylolysis. One case of isthmic spondylolisthesis was detected in a 10-year-old boy (1/809, 0.1%). There were 11 unilateral spondylolysis cases (11/21, 52.4%). Conclusion In our study, the prevalence of spondylolysis in children under the age of 11 was 2.5%. The prevalence was higher in boys than in girls and in school-age than in preschool-age children, despite the lack of any statistically significant differences.

Abstract
Introduction: Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is an autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder associated with aortic aneurysm/dissection in children. However, LDS may also present with a host of orthopaedic conditions. This study aimed to elucidate the management of orthopaedic conditions and associated outcomes in patients with LDS. Methods: PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched for primary articles regarding the management of orthopaedic conditions in patients with LDS. The goals and findings of each included study were described. Data regarding demographics, conditions studied, treatment modalities, and outcomes were extracted and analyzed. Results: Three hundred sixty-two unique articles were retrieved, 13 of which were included, with 4 retrospective cohort studies and 9 case reports representing 435 patients. In total, 19.8% of patients presenting with orthopaedic conditions received surgical treatment;54.3% of them experienced adverse outcomes, and 44.4% required revision surgery. The mean age at surgery was 9.0 ± 2.1 years. Conclusion: Patients with LDS may require early surgical intervention for a variety of orthopaedic conditions and may be at an increased risk for surgical complications. The current LDS literature is primarily focused on spinal conditions with a relative paucity of data on the management of hip deformity, joint subluxation, clubfoot, and trauma. Additional research is required regarding orthopaedic management for this unique population.

Abstract
Introduction: One of the most common types of spinal diseases is spondylolisthesis, which in advanced cases requires surgical intervention. This study aimed to compare the results of L4-L5-S1 and L5-S1 vertebral fusion treatment in high-grade L5-S1 spondylolisthesis. Methods: A study design that randomized controlled trial. A total of 70 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for the treatment of spondylolisthesis at Al-Zahra Hospital in Isfahan, Iran, were evaluated from July 2020 to February 2021 (35 patients underwent L4-L5-S1 and 35 received L5-S1 vertebral fusion treatment). The radicular and low back pain (LBP) intensity (Vanguard Australian Shares), blood loss, wound infection, reduction, and quality of life (SF-12 scores) were quantified before the surgery, 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery in two groups. Results: Patients involved in the two groups had similar baseline demographic characteristics. The percent slip in L4-L5-S1 and L5-S1 group, respectively, postoperative 81.11% and 57.89%, P = 0.0001. Intraoperative blood loss and postoperative were higher in the L4-L5-S1 group when compared to the L5-S1 group (P < 0.05). The wound infection rate of the L4-L5-S1 group was similar to that of the L5-S1 group (8.6% vs. 2.9%, P = 0.303). There was no difference in radicular and LBP intensity, SF-12 scores among patients with L4-L5-S1 and L5-S1 groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Both L4-L5-S1 and L5-S1 were equally beneficial in improving short-term functional outcomes for patients with high grade L5-S1 spondylolisthesis. However, L4-L5-S1 was associated with statistically significant higher incidences of blood loss, but it was accompanied by a better reduction. Therefore, caution should be exercised when considering L4-L5-S1.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is insufficient current information regarding the prognosis of patients with lumbar spondylolysis when bone union is not achieved. To examine the number, age, and surgically treated levels of patients with lumbar degenerative disease who underwent lumbar spine surgery, and to compare the results between patients with spondylolysis and without spondylolysis, a cross-sectional study was performed. METHODS Patients with degenerative lumbar disease who underwent lumbar spine surgery were retrospectively reviewed (n=354). The prevalence of spondylolysis was determined using CT images. Patients were divided into a spondylolysis group and a non-spondylolysis group, and the patients' age, sex, and surgically treated levels were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The prevalence of lumbar spondylolysis in the 354 patients was 6.50% (23/354). The patients' age was significantly lower in the spondylolysis group (54.2 ± 13.5 years) than in the non-spondylolysis group (63.8 ± 14.2). The number of surgically treated levels was significantly lower in the spondylolysis group (1.33 ± 0.56 levels) than in the non-spondylolysis group (1.70 ± 0.87). The percentage of patients who underwent surgery at L5-S1 was significantly higher in the spondylolysis group; whereas the percentage of patients who underwent surgery at L3-L4 or L4-L5 was significantly higher in the non-spondylolysis group. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that the presence of spondylolysis may not increase the incidence of degenerative lumbar spinal disorders requiring spinal surgery. However, spondylolysis patients frequently have severe degenerative disease at one level caudal to the spondylolysis, and infrequently have multilevel lumbar degenerative disease requiring spinal surgery.

Prevalence of lumbar spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis in patients with degenerative spinal disease. Sci Rep 2020; 10:6739. Abstract
Lumbar spondylolysis generally occurs in adolescent athletes. Bony union can be expected with conservative treatment, however, the fracture does not heal in some cases. When the fracture becomes a pseudoarthrosis, spondylolysis patients have the potential to develop isthmic spondylolisthesis. A cross-sectional study was performed to determine the incidence of spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis, and to elucidate when and how often spondylolisthesis occurs in patients with or without spondylolysis. Patients undergoing computed tomography (CT) scans of abdominal or lumbar regions for reasons other than low back pain were included (n = 580). Reconstruction CT images were obtained, and the prevalence of spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis were evaluated. Of the 580 patients, 37 patients (6.4%) had spondylolysis. Of these 37 patients, 19 patients (51.4%) showed spondylolisthesis, whereas only 7.4% of non-spondylolysis patients showed spondylolisthesis (p < 0.05). When excluding unilateral spondylolysis, 90% (18/20) of spondylolysis patients aged ≥60 years-old showed spondylolisthesis. None of the patients with isthmic spondylolisthesis had received fusion surgery, suggesting that most of these patients didn’t have a severe disability requiring surgical treatment. Our results showed that the majority of bilateral spondylolysis patients aged ≥60 years-old show spondylolisthesis, and suggest that spondylolisthesis occurs very frequently and may develop at a younger age when spondylolysis exists.

Abstract
Lumbar spondylolysis is a unilateral or bilateral defect of the pars interarticularis, an isthmus of bone connecting the superior and inferior facet surfaces in the lumbar spine at a given level. Spondylolysis is common in young athletes participating in sports, particularly those requiring repetitive hyperextension movements. The majority of young athletes are able to return to full sport participation following accurate diagnosis and conservative management, including a structured treatment program. Surgical intervention for isolated pars injuries is seldom necessary. A progressive physical therapy (PT) program is an important component of recovery after sustaining an acute pars fracture. However, there is a paucity of literature detailing PT programs specific to spondylolysis. Here, we provide an overview of the epidemiology, natural history, radiographic evaluation, and management of pars fractures in young athletes. In addition, a detailed description of a physiotherapy program for this population that was developed at a spine center within an academic medical center is provided.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Provide a comprehensive overview of lumbar spondylolysis, a frequent cause of lower back pain in children and adolescents, from evaluation to management. RECENT FINDINGS With the surge of structured sports participation in the pediatric population, spondylolysis is a common ailment that afflicts many young athletes due to rigorous competition that taxes the growing spine with repetitive extension and rotation. SUMMARY Spondylolysis is a fracture through the pars interarticularis. When a child presents with lower back pain, spondylolysis should be at the top of the differential. A thorough history and physical examination are essential. In addition, radiographs of the lumbar spine, anterior posterior and lateral views, MRI and, selectively, computed tomography are useful adjuncts to uncover a pars injury. Timely diagnosis facilitates early treatment which includes rest, optimizing bone health, brace treatment, and physical therapy. If delayed or untreated, spondylolysis may result in nonunion or pars defect. If symptomatic, patients may need surgery to fuse the lumbar facet joints or repair the par interarticularis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We studied the prevalence and treatment outcomes of spondylolisthesis in patients with Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS). METHODS Clinical data and lumbosacral imaging of 138 patients with LDS were reviewed. Spondylolisthesis (L4-L5 or L5-S1) and spondylolysis were characterized by multimodal imaging and correlated with clinical data. Treatments and outcomes were characterized for patients with spondylolisthesis. Associations were determined using the Fisher exact, Mann-Whitney, and Student t tests (α=0.05). RESULTS Twenty-four patients (17%) had spondylolysis and 23 (17%) had spondylolisthesis. Median age at spondylolisthesis diagnosis was 11 (interquartile range, 9.5) years. In patients in whom measurement was possible (n=20), mean (±SD) slip was 48% (±35%). Nineteen patients had L5-S1 slip and 4 had L4-L5 slip. Of the patients with spondylolisthesis, 5 had no evidence of spondylolysis; of those with spondylolysis, all but 6 had spondylolisthesis. Eleven patients with spondylolisthesis underwent posterior spinal fusion (PSF) to treat slip progression, pain, and/or neurological deficit. Spondylolisthesis recurred in 1 patient who underwent PSF with bone graft arthrodesis alone (no instrumentation). The other 10 patients underwent PSF with instrumentation and fusion. Three patients additionally underwent Bohlman interbody fusion. Two patients developed implant failure. S2 fixation was performed at revision to achieve fusion in these patients. Mean Meyerding grade improved in patients who underwent arthrodesis, from 3.9 (±1.2) to 1.9 (±1.3) (P=0.002). Complications were 2 cerebrospinal fluid leaks, 2 transient postoperative paresthesias, and 1 case each of pseudarthrosis at S1-S2, wound dehiscence, and transient urinary incontinence. No significant associations between LDS type and lumbosacral abnormalities were found. CONCLUSIONS High-grade spondylolisthesis is common in LDS and usually associated with spondylolysis. Patients requiring surgery for spondylolisthesis present during childhood and do well after instrumented PSF. Interbody fusion and stabilization of S1 and S2 can prevent physeal deformation. LDS should be considered in patients with high-grade spondylolisthesis. Patients with LDS should be monitored for spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis starting when they are young. Abstract
Introduction Recent advances in diagnostic imaging, such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), have allowed early diagnosis of lumbar spondylolysis (LS). However, few outpatient clinics are equipped with such imaging apparatuses and must rely on plain radiographs for the diagnosis of LS. The aim of this retrospective study was to identify how accurately fracture lines can be detected on plain radiographs in patients with LS. Methods Patients with a diagnosis of LS were staged as early, progressive, or terminal. We evaluated whether fracture lines could be detected on plain radiographs and compared the detection rates under the following conditions: two directions including anteroposterior and lateral views (2 views), four directions including both oblique views (4 views), four directions including dynamic lateral views (4-D views), and all six directions (6 views). Results In early LS, the fracture line detection rate was 11.4% using 2 views, 20.5% using 4 views and 4-D views, and 22.7% using 6 views. In progressive LS, the fracture line detection rate was 54.2% using 2 views, 70.8% using 4-D views, 75.0% using 4 views, and 79.2% using 6 views. The respective detection rates for terminal LS were 85.0%, 100%, 100%, and 100%. Conclusions Although terminal LS was diagnosed accurately on plain radiographs in all patients, the detection rates were only 22.7% and 79.2% in patients with early and progressive LS, respectively. These results suggest that plain radiographic films can no longer be considered adequate for early and accurate diagnosis of LS. Advanced imaging procedures, such as MRI in the early diagnosis or CT for persistent cases, are recommended to obtain an accurate diagnosis of early stage LS in pediatric patients requiring conservative treatment to achieve bony healing.
