Abstract
An abnormal level of dopamine (DA), a kind of neurotransmitter, correlates with a series of diseases, including Parkinson's disease, Willis-Ekbom disease, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and schizophrenia. Hence, it is imperative to achieve a precise, rapid detection method in clinical medicine. In this study, we synthesized nanocomposite carbon aerogels (CAs) doped with iron and iron carbide, based on algae residue-derived biomass materials, using Fe(NO3)3 as the iron source. The modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for DA detection, denoted as CAs-Fe/GCE, was prepared through surface modification with this composite material. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction characterization confirmed the successful doping of iron into the as-prepared CAs. Additionally, the electrochemical behavior of DA on the modified electrode surface was investigated and the results demonstrate that the addition of the CAs-Fe promoted the electron transfer rate, thereby enhancing their sensing performance. The fabricated electrochemical DA biosensor exhibits an accurate detection of DA in the concentration within the range of 0.01~200 µM, with a detection limit of 0.0033 µM. Furthermore, the proposed biosensor is validated in real samples, showing its high applicability for the detection of DA in beverages.

Abstract
In this work, template-free nanostructured conducting polymers (nCPs)-embedded gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from aniline, thiophene and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene have been prepared via a one-pot sonochemical method. The synthesis of the nanocomposite (nCPs-AuNPs) was achieved in a short period of time (5-10 min), by applying high-energy ultrasound to an aqueous mixture of a CP precursor monomer and KAuCl4, in the presence of LiClO4 as dopant. The synthesis process is simpler, greener and faster in comparison to other procedures reported in the literature. Remarkably, bulk quantities of doped polyaniline PANI-AuNPs nanofibers were obtained. Subsequently, they were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), as well as by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). PANI-AuNPs nanofibers were also employed as immobilization matrix for a benchmark enzyme, glucose oxidase (GOX). Finally, glucose was determined in real samples of white and red wines by using the so-obtained GOX-PANI-AuNPs/Sonogel-Carbon biosensor, providing outstanding recoveries (99.54%). This work may offer important insights into the synthesis of nanostructured conducting polymers and also stimulates the exploration of the applications of these nanocomposites, especially in research fields such as (bio)sensors, catalysis and composite materials.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) is an important neurotransmitter which indicates the risk of several neurological diseases. The selective determination with low detection limit is necessary for early diagnosis and prevention of neurological diseases associated with abnormal concentration of DA. The purpose of this study is to fabricate a poly(3-aminobenzylamine)/poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PABA/PSS) multilayer thin film for use as an electrochemical DA biosensor. The PABA was firstly synthesized using a chemical oxidation method of 3-aminobenzylamine (ABA) monomer with ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant. For electrochemical biosensor, the PABA/PSS thin film was fabricated on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO)-coated glass substrate using the layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly method. The optimized number of bilayers was achieved using SEM and cyclic voltammetry (CV) results. The electroactivity of the optimized LBL thin film toward detection of DA in neutral solution was studied by CV and amperometry. The PABA/PSS thin film showed good sensitivity for DA sensing with sensitivity of 6.922 nA·cm-2·µM-1 and linear range of 0.1-1.0 µM (R2 = 0.9934), with low detection limit of 0.0628 µM, long-term stability and good reproducibility. In addition, the selectivity of the PABA/PSS thin film for detection of DA under the common interferences (i.e., ascorbic acid, uric acid and glucose) was also presented. The prepared PABA/PSS thin film showed the powerful efficiency for future use as DA biosensor in real sample analysis.

Abstract
Well-dispersed and graft-crosslinked gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized by the reduction of tetrachloroaurate with hydrazine at room temperature. The AuNPs possess a high density of surface defects which is due to grafting of n-octanoic acid to polyvinylpyrrolidone. The physical and chemical properties of the resulting AuNPs were characterized by UV-vis, XRD, TEM/HRTEM, SAED, and XPS, respectively. The modified AuNPs were placed on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in an electropolymerized taurine layer to obtain a sensitive, selective, stable and rapid electrochemical dopamine sensor. The peak current, typically measured at 0.17 V (vs. SCE), increases linearly in the 1.0 to 120 μM dopamine concentration range, and the limit of detection (at S/N = 3) is 0.16 μM with a sensitivity of 2.94 μA·μM-1·cm-2. The sensor was successfully applied to the determination of dopamine in injections and spiked serum samples. The recoveries from spiked serum samples range from 97.5 to 102.4%, with RSDs ranging between 2.8 and 3.4%. Graphical abstract Schematic representation of a glassy carbon electrode modified with in-situ graft-crosslinked gold nanoparticles combined with an electropolymerized polytaurine membrane. The sensor exhibits excellent features towards dopamine determination.

Abstract
Herein, the authors reported a carbon dots mediated synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) at room temperature. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the AuNPs are spherical in shape with a size of 10 nm. As-prepared AuNPs was immobilised on carbon paste electrode and subjected to electrochemical sensing of an important neurotransmitter dopamine. Differential pulse voltammetry studies revealed sensitive and selective determination of dopamine in the presence of commonly interfering ascorbic acid and uric acid. The linear detection range was 10-600 μM and the limit of detection was 0.7 ± 0.18 μM. The practical application was demonstrated by measuring dopamine in human blood serum and urine samples. The catalytic activity of AuNPs was evaluated by sodium borohydride mediated reduction of nitroaromatic compounds. The reduction kinetics was found to be pseudo-first-order kinetics. All the tested nitroaromatics reduced to corresponding amines in <10 min.

Abstract
A metal-inorganic composite, comprises of silver-molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (Ag@MoS2) was synthesized at low temperature. The Ag@MoS2 composite was drop-casted onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for a highly selective dopamine (DA) detection in the presence of interfering compounds such as uric acid (UA) and ascorbic acid (AA). The physicochemical analysis of the nanosheets was carried out with X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The as-prepared Ag@MoS2-modified GCE displayed excellent electrocatalytic activity toward DA oxidation, with a 0.2 μM detection limit at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 and an extensive linear detection range from 1 μM to 500 μM (R2 = 0.9983). The fabricated non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor demonstrated superior selectivity and stability for the detection of DA with the removal of AA and UA interfering compounds.

Abstract
We report a simple new approach for green preparation of gallic acid supported reduced graphene oxide encapsulated gold nanoparticles (GA-RGO/AuNPs) via one-pot hydrothermal method. The as-prepared composites were successfully characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction techniques (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and elemental analysis. The GA-RGO/AuNPs modified electrode behaves as a hybrid electrode material for sensitive and selective detection of dopamine (DA) in presence of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA). The GA-RGO/AuNPs modified electrode displays an excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of DA and exhibits a wide linear response range over the DA concentrations from 0.01-100.3 μM with a detection limit (LOD) of 2.6 nM based on S/N = 3. In addition, the proposed sensor could be applied for the determination of DA in human serum and urine samples for practical analysis.

Abstract
Electrospun nanoporous carbon nanofibers (pCNFs) decorated with Ag-Pt bimetallic nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by combining template carbonization and seed-growth reduction approach. Porous-structured polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers (pPAN) were first prepared by electrospinning PAN/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) blend solution, followed by subsequent water extraction and heat treatment to obtain pCNFs. Ag-Pt/pCNFs were then obtained by using pCNFs as support for bimetallic nanoparticle loading. Thus, the obtained Ag-Pt/pCNFs were used to modify glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for selective detection of dopamine (DA) in the presence of uric acid (UA) and ascorbic acid (AA). This novel sensor exhibits fast amperometric response and high sensitivity toward DA with a wide linear concentration range of 10-500 μM and a low detection limit of 0.11 μM (S/N = 3), wherein the interference of UA and AA can be eliminated effectively.
