Abstract
An economical and effective thin film microextraction (TFME) for simultaneous analysis of ten neonicotinoid insecticides and metabolites in fruit juice and tea, was developed based on the combination of polyurethane (PU) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) films as the sorbent followed by ultra high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. The PU/PMMA composite was evidenced to possess rapid adsorption and strong accumulation towards neonicotinoids compared with the films used alone. A series of parameters were optimized, and the agitation mode, film size, ionic strength, desorption solvent and sample pH were found to dominate the microextraction process rather than the extraction temperature, agitation time and sample volume. The thin films are cost effective and efficient for single use analysis, but still can be reused at least 8 times with no significant loss in performance. The ten neonicotinoids were measured with good recoveries (81.1-107.9%), high enrichment factors (up to 135), low limits of detection (0.001-0.1 µg L-1), and wide linearity range (1-500 µg L-1, r2>0.9981) in fruit juice (apple, lemon, and pomegranate) and tea (green tea and black tea) samples. The proposed method was successfully applied to commercial fruit and tea drinks, and no samples were tested positive on target neonicotinoids. The PU/PMMA based TFME has shown great potential as an alternative to exhaustive extraction techniques for routine screening of trace neonicotinoids in fruit juice and tea by simplifying the analytical procedure, shortening the operation time, and lowering the material expense.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymer nanozyme (MIL-101(Co,Fe)@MIP) with bimetallic active sites and high-efficiency peroxidase-like (POD-like) activity were synthesized for the ratiometric fluorescence and colorimetric dual-mode detection of vanillin with high selectivity and sensitivity. Compared with the monometallic nanozyme, the POD-like activity of bimetallic nanozyme was greatly enhanced by changing the electronic structure and surface structure. Ratiometric fluorescence and colorimetric dual-mode detection of vanillin in aqueous solution was realized by vanillin entering specific imprinted cavities and blocking the molecular channels on the surface of MIL-101(Co,Fe)@MIP and the dual-mode visual detection was also realized. The limits of detection were as low as 104 nM and 198 nM, respectively. The method proposed in this paper was applied to the real samples of ice cream and candy. And the recoveries were between 93.3% and 105.5%, which also reached a satisfactory degree. The further detection of dexamethasone and prednisone, two drugs belonging to glucocorticoid, proved that the nanozyme analysis method based on MIL-101(Co,Fe)@MIP could be developed into a sensing platform.

Abstract
In this work, a novel strategy was developed for separation and enrichment of sibiskoside by dummy molecular imprinting technology and magnetic separation technology. The structural analogue geniposide was selected as the dummy template, using 4-vinylpyridine as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linking agent, and acetonitrile as the porogen. The molecularly imprinted layer was formed on the surface of the magnetic carrier to prepare dummy template molecularly imprinted polymers (DMIPs) with a core-shell structure. The DMIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Vibration sample magnetometer (VSM). The results of adsorption kinetics experiments and isothermal adsorption experiments showed that DMIPs can reach adsorption equilibrium in a short period of time and the maximum adsorption capacity can reach 14.67 mg/g. The imprinting factor was 2.08. Compared with the andrographolide, polydatin, arbutin, caffeic acid, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone and quercetin, DMIPs have good adsorption capacity for the sibiskoside. And the reusability was better. After the adsorption of DMIPs, the purity of sibiskoside in the crude extracts from Sibiraea angustata increased to 78%. It provided a basis for the further development and utilization of Sibiraea angustata as well as the separation and enrichment of monoterpenes.

Abstract
An efficient and simple method for determining vanillin, methyl vanillin and ethyl vanillin in milk and dairy products was developed using a liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) procedure coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Different extraction procedures were tested and optimised by spiking three vanillin compounds into a blank matrix in which none of any food additives were detected, and the extraction with acetonitrile solution and n-hexane as cleaning sorbent allowed an efficient recovery of 87.6-101.7% with RSDs less than 5%. The limit of detection (LOD) ranged from 6.2 to 20.1 μg/kg. High sensitivity, accuracy and selectivity were found for the in-house validated method, which can eliminate the interferences from complicated matrices effectively, and fulfil the quality criteria for routine laboratory application for real samples. The developed method was then finally applied to screen the three analytes in 65 milk and dairy products including infant formula milk powders from local markets to check for compliance with Chinese Regulation. Concentrations of the total vanillin and ethyl vanillin ranged from 0.0323 to 246.3 mg/kg, which is within the limits of Chinese regulations.

Abstract
Synthetic catalysts that could compete with enzymes in term of the catalytic efficiency but surpass them in stability have a great potential for the practical application. In this work, we have developed a novel kind of organic catalysts based on flow-through macroporous polymer monoliths containing catalytic centers that mimic the catalytic site of natural enzyme chymotrypsin. It is known that chymotrypsin catalytic center consists of L-serine, L-histidine, and L-aspartic acid and has specificity to C-terminal residues of hydrophobic amino acids (L-phenylalanine, L-tyrosine, and L-tryptophan). In this paper, we have prepared the macroporous polymer monoliths bearing grafted polymer layer on their surface. The last one was synthesized via copolymerization of N-methacryloyl-L-serine, N-methacryloyl-L-histidine, and N-methacryloyl-L-aspartic acid. The spatial orientation of amino acids in the polymer layer, generated on the surface of monolithic framework, was achieved by coordinating amino acid-polymerizable derivatives with cobalt (II) ions without substrate-mimicking template and with its use. The conditions for the preparation of mimic materials were optimized to achieve a mechanically stable system. Catalytic properties of the developed systems were evaluated towards the hydrolysis of ester bond in a low molecular substrate and compared to the results of using chymotrypsin immobilized on the surface of a similar monolithic framework. The effect of flow rate increase and temperature elevation on the hydrolysis efficiency were evaluated for both mimic monolith and column with immobilized enzyme.

Abstract
Due to their selectivity and chemical stability, molecularly imprinted polymers have attracted great interest in sample preparation. Imprinted polymers have been applied for the extraction and the enrichment of different sorts of trace analytes in biological and environmental samples before their analysis. Additionally, MIPs are utilized in various sample preparation techniques such as SPE, SPME, SBSE and MEPS. Nevertheless, molecularly imprinted polymers suffer from thermal (stable only up to 150 °C) and mechanical stability issues, improper porosity and poor capacity. The sol-gel methodology as a promising alternative to address these limitations allowing the production of sorbents with controlled porosity and higher surface area. Thus the combination of molecularly imprinted technology and sol-gel technology can create influential materials with high selectivity, high capacity and high thermal stability. This work aims to present an overview of molecularly imprinted sol-gel polymerization methods and their applications in analytical and bioanalytical fields.

Abstract
In this work, a facile ratiometric electrochemical aptasensor was developed towards sensitive and selective detection of vanillin, based on Ketjen black/ferrocene dual-doped zeolite-like MOFs (Fc-KB/ZIF-8) and electrodeposited gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) coupling with DNA aptamer. Fc-KB/ZIF-8 composites were prepared via one-pot solvothermal reaction and drop-coated on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface to form Fc-KB/ZIF-8@GCE. AuNPs were in-situ electro-deposited on the modified GCE. 5'-SH terminated aptamer of vanillin was combined with AuNPs via Au-S coupling to form aptamer-AuNPs/Fc-KB/ZIF-8@GCE as a new sensing platform. Under optimal conditions, electrochemical (square wave voltammetry) curves of this sensing platform were measured in electrolyte solutions containing vanillin. With increase of vanillin concentration (Cvan), vanillin had an increased peak current intensity (Ivan, as response signal). Fc doped into ZIF-8 had slight changes in its peak current intensity (IFc, as reference signal). There is a well plotting linear relationship between Ivan/IFc and the logarithm of Cvan ranging from 10 nM to 0.2 mM, with a low limit of detection of 3 nM. The aptamer-AuNPs/Fc-KB/ZIF-8@GCE was applied as a ratiometric electrochemical aptasensor of vanillin. This aptasensor had sensitive and selective electrochemical signal responses on vanillin, over potential interferents. This aptasensor enabled vanillin detection in real food samples, showing high detection performance. Experimental results testified that this aptasensor had high reliability and practicability for vanillin determination in real samples.

Abstract
Three gossypol molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared by bulk polymerization (MIP1), surface layer imprinting using silica gel as the support (MIP2), and the sol-gel process (MIP3). The as-prepared MIPs were characterized by SEM and nitrogen adsorption-desorption techniques to study the morphology structure. The adsorption experiments exhibited that MIP1 had adsorption capacity as high as 564 mg·g-1. The MIP2 showed faster adsorption kinetics than MIP1 and MIP3. The adsorption equilibrium could be reached for gossypol in 40 min. A selectivity study showed that the adsorption capacity of MIPs for gossypol was about 1.9 times higher than that of the structurally-similar analogs ellagic acid and 6.6 times higher than that of the quercetin. It was found that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Freundlich isotherm model were more applicable for the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm of gossypol binding onto the MIP1 and MIP2, respectively. Results suggested that among those three, the MIP2 was a desirable sorbent for rapid adsorption and MIP1 was suitable for selective recognition of gossypol.

Abstract
A new combination between selective polymer monolith microextraction (PMME) and sensitive differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was developed for the determination of the phytohormone salicylic acid (SA) in Actinidia chinensis. A molecularly imprinted monolithic column (MIMC) thermally in-situ polymerized in a micropipette tip by using SA as a template, 4-vinyl pyridine (4-VP) as a functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a cross-linker in the mixed porogen of toluene and dodecanol, was employed for the microextraction of SA. The prepared MIMC was characterized by a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FI-TR), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results confirmed the binary continuous structure of the porous network. The extracted SA was determined by DPV on a graphene oxide (GO) modified electrode. The joint conditions between MIMC and DPV were investigated practically. Under the optimum conditions, SA could be determined selectively and sensitively in a linear range from 0.1 to 60.0 μg g-1. The limit of detection was 0.03 μg g-1 and the recoveries were between 86.2 and 105.2%. The proposed joint method was successfully used to determine SA in Actinidia chinensis.

Abstract
The development of sorbents for selective binding of cholesterol, which is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, has a great importance for analytical science and medicine. In this work, two series of macroporous cholesterol-imprinted monolithic sorbents differing in the composition of functional monomers (methacrylic acid, butyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and ethylene dimethacrylate), amount of a template (4, 6 and 8 mol%) used for molecular imprinting, as well as mean pore size were synthesized by in situ free-radical process in stainless steel housing of 50 mm × 4.6 mm i.d. All prepared materials were characterized regarding to their hydrodynamic permeability and porous properties, as well as examined by BET and SEM methods. Imprinting factors, apparent dynamic dissociation constants, the maximum binding capacity, the number of theoretical plates and the height equivalent to a theoretical palate of MIP monoliths at different mobile phase flow rates were determined. The separation of a mixture of structural analogues, namely, cholesterol and prednisolone, was demonstrated. Additionally, the possibility of using the developed monoliths for cholesterol solid-phase extraction from simulated biological solution was shown.
