Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels. This disease is so serious that many experts refer to it as the "silent killer". The early detection of diabetes mellitus, whether type 1, type 2 or mitochondrial, is crucial because it can improve the success of treatment and the quality of life for patients. Aptamer-based biosensor diagnosis methods have been widely developed because they have high sensitivity and selectivity in detecting biomarkers of various diseases. Aptamers are short sequences of oligonucleotides or proteins that recognize specific ligands and bind to various target molecules, ranging from small ions to large proteins. They are promising diagnostic molecules due to their high sensitivity and selectivity, ease of modification, low toxicity, and high stability. This article aims to summarize the progress of detection methods, including detection principles, sensitivity, selectivity, and the performance of detection devices, to distinguish between types of diabetes mellitus using electrochemical aptasensors with biomarkers such as glucose, insulin, HbA1c, GHSA, and ATP.

Abstract
A universal design of turn-on fluorescent aptasensor based on aptamer functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) complex (AuNPs-Apt/NH2-MIL-125(Ti)) was realized for bisphenol A (BPA) detection. LMOF NH2-MIL-125(Ti) was prepared using facial hydrothermal method. BPA aptamer functionalized AuNPs were prepared and adsorbed on the surface of NH2-MIL-125(Ti) to obtain platform of the fluorescent aptasensor. The fabrication process, sensing performance and applicability of the proposed aptasensor were characterized and investigated carefully. Linear detection range of the constructed aptasensor was from 1 × 10-9 mol L-1 to 1 × 10-4 mol L-1 with good selectivity, repeatability, stability and reproducibility under optimal experimental conditions. Meanwhile, the fluorescent aptasensor was successfully utilized for BPA detection in real samples with the recoveries of 95.80%-103.12%. The proposed aptasensor based on AuNPs-Apt/NH2-MIL-125(Ti) holds significant potential for BPA detection in environmental and food samples, promoting the construction and application of LMOFs-based aptasensor.

Abstract
Deoxynivalenol (DON), a common mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species, poses a great threat to human and animal body. Hence, it is of significance to develop an ultrasensitive and reliable method for DON detection. Herein, a fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (FL-SERS) dual-mode aptasensor was designed for the detection of DON based on gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) and silver nanoparticles modified metal-polydopamine framework (Ag NPs/MPDA). In this aptasensor, complementary DNA modified Au NCs (cDNA-Au NCs) was selected as fluorescence probe, and 6-carboxytetramethylrhodamine (TAMRA)-labeled aptamer modified Ag NPs/MPDA (Ag NPs/MPDA-Apt-TAMRA) was employed as SERS probe, in which Ag NPs/MPDA acted as SERS substance and fluorescence quencher, and TAMRA acted as Raman label. The superior binding affinity of the aptamer with DON to cDNA can regulate the fluorescence and Raman signal intensities and realize the quantitative determination of DON. Under the optimal conditions, the aptasensor exhibited a low detection limit of 0.08 ng mL-1 (0.1-100 ng mL-1) in FL mode and 0.06 ng mL-1 (0.1-100 ng mL-1) in SERS mode. In addition, it was successfully applied for DON detection in wheat flour. We believe that the proposed FL-SERS strategy has a promising application in the detection of mycotoxins.

Abstract
Taking advantage of high porosity, large surface area, tunable nanostructures and ease of functionalization, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been popularly applied in different fields, including adsorption and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, drug delivery, light harvesting, and chemical/biological sensing. The abundant active sites for specific recognition and adjustable optical and electrical characteristics allow for the design of various sensing platforms with MOFs as promising candidates. In this review, we systematically introduce the recent advancements of MOFs-based fluorescent chemosensors and biosensors, mainly focusing on the sensing mechanisms and analytes, including inorganic ions, small organic molecules and biomarkers (e.g., small biomolecules, nucleic acids, proteins, enzymes, and tumor cells). This review may provide valuable references for the development of novel MOFs-based sensing platforms to meet the requirements of environment monitoring and clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
By rationally introducing Ce(III) and Tb(III) into a coordination polymer (CP), a series of lanthanide bimetallic coordination polymers (Tb:Ce-BCPs) has been prepared in this work. Compared with pure Tb-CP and Ce-CP, bimetallic Tb:Ce-BCPs show stronger and more stable ECL intensity, which is mainly attributed to the "dual sensitization effect" combined with the energy transfer from Ce(III) to Tb(III) and the antenna effect from the ligand to the center atoms of Ce(III) and Tb(III). In the meantime, after explore the ECL intensity and morphologies of all these Tb:Ce-BCPs, the results show that the morphologies and ECL intensities of Tb:Ce-BCPs can be adjusted by doping different molar ratios of Ce(III) in Tb:Ce-BCP. Excitingly, Ce(III) can also act as a co-reaction accelerator, effectively promoting S2O82- to generate more SO4•-, thereby enhancing the ECL intensity of Tb:Ce-BCP. That is to say, Ce(III) plays a triple role in Tb:Ce-BCP. Furthermore, the ECL strength of Tb:Ce-BCP decreased by only 1.8% and 3.5%, respectively after the modified electrode was scanned for 800 s and stored for one month. Enlightened by the excellent ECL properties of Tb:Ce-BCP, we modified Tb:Ce-BCP directly on the surface of electrode, and explored its application in electroanalytical chemistry through the detection of epinephrine (EP) and the detection limit is 33 fmol L-1. Significantly, our ECL sensing strategy promotes the application of lanthanides in ECL sensor and opens vast possibilities for the synthesis of a new generation of ECL emitter in electroanalytical fields.

Self-assembled DNA origami-based duplexed aptasensors combined with centrifugal filters for efficient and rechargeable ATP detection. Biosens Bioelectron 2022; 211:114336. Abstract
DNA origami technology has great potential for biosensor applications. Here, we described the construction of a self-assembled DNA origami biosensor for the precise localization of fluorescent aptamers. Due to the molecular weight difference between DNA origami and aptamer, centrifugal filters were used to quantitatively detect adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP-specific aptamer labeled with fluorescence reporter 6-carboxyfluorescein FAM (FAM-aptamer) was selected as the recognition element and signal probe. ATP duplexed aptamers bound to triangular DNA origami by base-complementary pairing, resulting in high fluorescence signals on the origami arrays. The competitive binding of ATP toward the FAM-aptamer triggered the release of FAM-aptamer-ATP complexes from the surface of the origami array, resulting in weakened fluorescence signals. For ATP quantification, 100 kD centrifugal filters were employed, followed by measurement of the fluorescence signal trapped on the origami arrays of the filter device. The successful synthesis of origami-aptamer arrays was characterized by atomic force microscopy, laser confocal microscopy, and electrophoresis. Fluorescence measurements exhibited an excellent linear relationship with logarithms of ATP concentrations within 0.1-100 ng mL-1, with a detection limit of 0.29 ng mL-1. By replacing aptamers and complementary strands, we demonstrated the potential of this method for 17β-estradiol detection. Considering that the detection mechanism is based on the hybridization and displacement of DNA strands, the detection system had the potential for recharging. Our study provides new insights into applying DNA origami technology in small molecule detection.

Abstract
Biosensors have been employed for monitoring and imaging biological events and molecules. Sensitive detection of different biomolecules in vivo can reflect the changes of physiological conditions in real-time, which is of great significance for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The detection of intracellular molecules concentration change can indicate the occurrence and development of disease. Fluorescence bioimaging enables in situ monitoring of intracellular molecules in living cells. By combining the specificity of aptamer for intracellular molecules binding, and biocompatibility of fluorescent materials and nanomaterials, biosensors with different nanostructures have been developed to enter into living cells for analysis. This review summarizes the fluorescence detection methods based on aptamer for intracellular molecules detection. The principles, limit of detection, advantages, and disadvantages of different platforms for intracellular molecular fluorescent response are summarized and reviewed. Finally, the current challenges and future developments were discussed and proposed.

Abstract
Phosphate (PO43-) plays a major role in aquatic ecosystems and biosystems. Developing a highly sensitive and selective ratiometric fluorescence probe for detection of PO43- is of great significance to the ecological environment and human health. In this work, a novel dual lanthanide metal organic framework was synthesized via hydrothermal reaction based on Tb3+ and Ce3+ as the center metal ions and terephthalic acid as the organic ligand (designated as Tb-Ce-MOFs). The fluorescence of Tb-Ce-MOFs shows emission at 375 nm. In the presence of PO43-, with increased concentration of PO43-, the fluorescence intensity of Tb-Ce-MOFs at 500 nm and 550 nm increased, while the intensity at 375 nm was reduced. Hence, ratiometric fluorescence detecting of PO43- can be achieved by measuring the ratio of fluorescence at 550 nm (FL550) to 375 nm (FL375) in the fluorescent spectra of the Tb-Ce-MOFs. In this sensing approach, the Tb-Ce-MOFs probe exhibits highly sensitive and selective for detection of PO43-. The limit of detection is calculated to be 28 nM and the detection range is 0.1 to 10 μM. In addition, the Tb-Ce-MOFs were used in the detection of PO43- in real samples. We design and synthesize a mixed lanthanide metal organic framework fluorescence probe (Tb-Ce-MOFs) for ratiometric fluorescence for the detection of PO43- based on Tb3+ and Ce3+ as the center metal ions and terephthalic acid as the organic ligand.

Abstract
Herein, a new kind of lead halide perovskite (LHP, (C12H25NH3)2PbI4) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature is developed as a fluorescent probe for heparin (Hep). The LHPs exhibit high emission when they aggregate in water. Interestingly, a few picomoles of dispersed gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) can quench the emission of LHPs, but the aggregated AuNPs are invalid. When protamine (Pro) is mixed with AuNPs at first, the negatively charged AuNPs aggregate through electrostatic interaction, producing the AIE recovery. Nevertheless, Hep disturbs the interaction between AuNPs and Pro due to its strong electrostatic interaction with Pro. Therefore, the dispersed AuNPs quench the fluorescence of LHPs again. A response linear range of Hep of 0.8-4.2 ng ml-1is obtained, and the detection limit is 0.29 ng ml-1. Compared with other probes for determination of Hep with AuNPs, this strategy exhibits better sensitivity due to the small quantity of AuNPs used. Finally, it is also successfully applied to detect Hep in human serum samples with satisfactory recoveries.

Abstract
Herein, the self-assembly of 1-dodecanethiol-capped Cu nanoclusters (DT-Cu NCs) is obtained by annealing of dibenzyl ether solution of nanoclusters. These aggregates are composed of small clusters and emit a high level of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) in water. Based on the quenching effect of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) on DT-Cu NCs, a fluorescence strategy is developed to monitor α-glucosidase (α-Glu) activity and screen its inhibitors from Chinese herbal medicines. 4-Nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside (NGP) is selected as the substrate, which is further hydrolyzed to yield 4-NP through the catalysis of α-Glu. The quenching efficiency is positively correlated to the concentration of α-Glu. Furthermore, the inhibitory effects of the extracts from four Chinese herbal medicines (i.e., the rind of Punica granatum L., Momordica grosvenorii Swingle., Crataegus pinnatifida Bge., and Lycium barbarum L.) on the α-Glu activity have been studied. The IC50 values of extracts from the rind of Punica granatum L. and Momordica grosvenorii Swingle are 0.23 and 0.37 g/L, respectively, so they show obvious inhibitory effects on α-Glu. The extracts of Crataegus pinnatifida Bge. and Lycium barbarum L. exhibit relatively weak inhibitory effects. Hence, the proposed strategy can be applicable for screening α-Glu inhibitors from Chinese herbal medicines. Last but not the least, by immobilizing DT-Cu NCs into agarose hydrogels in polyethylene tubes, a visual device is fabricated to screen α-Glu inhibitors with high throughput and sensitivity.

Abstract
The 27 mer DNA aptamer for adenosine and adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) is a popular model system for designing biosensors. Various strategies have been reported for label-free colorimetric detection using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). It is generally accepted that free aptamers can protect AuNPs against salt-induced aggregation, whereas target-bound aptamers cannot. However, these studies only considered the aptamer binding to its target, and the adsorption of the aptamer on AuNPs, but none considered the adsorption of target molecules by AuNPs. We herein report that the adsorption of adenosine destabilized citrate-capped AuNPs with an apparent Kd of just 7.7 μM adenosine, whereas that of ATP stabilized the AuNPs because of the negative charges from the triphosphate group. The adsorbed ATP inhibited the adsorption of DNA. Using the aptamer and a nonbinding mutant, ATP and guanosine 5'-triphosphate (GTP) had the same colorimetric response, and so did adenosine and guanosine, regardless of the DNA sequence, indicating that the color change mainly reflected the adsorption of the nucleosides and nucleotides instead of aptamer binding. The related literature examples using this aptamer were classified into three types and individually analyzed, where the reported color changes can all be explained by the adsorption of target analytes.

Abstract
A thiol-labeled adenosine triphosphate (ATP) binding aptamer is covalently linked on the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). This warrants protection of the red AuNPs from aggregation in high salt condition. The dispersed AuNPs can quench the fluorescence of the Tb(III)-MOFs at 547 nm with the excitation wavelength of 290 nm. This is ascribed to the combined action of inner filter effect, dynamic quenching and fluorescence resonance energy transfer. If the aptamer binds ATP to form folded structures, the AuNPs aggregate in high salt medium and the green fluorescence of the Tb(III)-MOFs is recovered. This method shows good sensitivity and selectivity for ATP, and the linear range is from 0.5 to 10 μM of ATP with the detection limitat of 0.32 μM. It was applied to the determination of ATP in (spiked) human plasma with satisfactory recoveries (from 93.2% to 106.3%). Oppositely, when the unlabeled aptamer is used instead of thiol-labeled aptamer in this process, the ATP-aptamer complexes rather than unlabeled aptamer provide greater protection for AuNPs against salt-induced aggregation. It is found that when the aptamer covalently binds to AuNPs, the steric hindrance is dominant for the stabilization of AuNPs; for unlabeled aptamer, the electrostatic repulsion is responsible for their stability, irrespective of whether ATP is present or not. These two different forces lead to the aggregation or dispersion of AuNPs with addition of target in salt solution. Graphical abstractThe impact of two repulsive forces (electrostatic repulsion and steric repulsion) on the stabilization of gold nanoparticles, and its application in fluorescent terbium metal-organic frameworks as a nanoprobe for adenosine triphosphate.

Abstract
A luminescent metal organic framework (LMOF) of type UiO-66-NH2 was chosen for specific and sensitive detection of trace levels of hypochlorite. Hypochlorite causes the quenching of the blue fluorescence of nano-UiO-66-NH2 (with excitation/emission maxima at 325/430 nm), and this finding forms the basis for a fluorometric assay for hypochlorite. The method overcomes disadvantages of conventional redox-probes which are interfered by oxidants with oxidation capability stronger than that of hypochlorite. Compared with other fluorescent probes for sensing hypochlorite, UiO-66-NH2 has a comparable detection limit of 0.3 μmol L-1 and a broad linearity relationship in the range of 1-8 μmol L-1. The probe was successfully applied to the detection of hypochlorite in complex water samples and living Hela cells. Graphical abstract Schematic representation of hypochlorite induced quenching of the blue fluorescence of nano-UiO-66-NH2 (with excitation/emission maxima at 325/430 nm) through energy transfer. Abstract
Based on superparamagnetic nanoparticles, a responsive polyacrylamide hydrogel self-assembled by nucleic acid hairpin hybridization chain reaction was designed, and a universal low field nuclear magnetic resonance sensing platform was successfully constructed. As the target was gradually added, the hydrogel coating on the surface of the magnetic nanoparticle was opened layer by layer through binding with the aptamer, which specifically bonded thereto, causing different degrees of exposure of the magnetic nanoparticle, resulting in changes of low field nuclear magnetic resonance signals. This method was originally applied to the rapid detection of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and the versatility of the method was verified using polychlorinated biphenyl 77 (PCB77). This method had the advantage of being fast, convenient, and low cost, and it can be easily operated with high repeatability. This universal method can detect a variety of targets by replacing aptamers and may be useful in controlling food quality and for rapidly detecting cancer cells in vitro.

Abstract
Combining different metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) into a conjugate material can integrate the properties of each MOF component and further lead to emergent properties from the synergistic heterostructured units. In this work, two kinds of bimetallic TbFe-MOFs have been designed by MOF-on-MOF strategy and utilized as a platform for anchoring carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) aptamer to detect CA125 and living michigan cancer foundation-7 (MCF-7) cells. Although the integrated MOF-on-MOF architectures show similar chemical and structural features to that of the top layer, the Fe-MOF-on-Tb-MOF and Tb-MOF-on-Fe-MOF have different surface nanostructures to their parent MOFs. The developed aptasensor based on Tb-MOF-on-Fe-MOF displays higher stability of the formed G-quadruplex between aptamer and CA125 than that based on Fe-MOF-on-Tb-MOF, owing to stronger immobilization behavior of the aptamer for the Tb-MOF-on-Fe-MOF composite. The developed aptasensor provides an extremely low detection limit of 58 μU·mL-1 towards CA125 within a wide linear range from 100 μU·mL-1 to 200 U·mL-1, which is significantly lower than those of all reported sensors. This aptasensor also has high selectivity, good stability, acceptable reproducibility, and excellent applicability in human serum. Moreover, the Tb-MOF-on-Fe-MOF nanoarchitecture demonstrates superior biocompatibility and good endocytosis. As a result, the developed aptasensor illustrates high sensitivity for detection of MCF-7 cells with an extremely low detection limit of 19 cell·mL-1. Therefore, the proposed aptasensor based on Tb-MOF-on-Fe-MOF exhibits great potentials for early diagnosis of tumors.

Abstract
Fluorescence resonance energy transfer, one of the most powerful phenomena for elucidating molecular interactions, has been extensively utilized as a biosensing tool to provide accurate information at the nanoscale. Numerous aptamer- and nanomaterial-based FRET bioassays has been developed for detection of a large variety of molecules. Affinity probes are widely used in biosensors, in which aptamers have emerged as advantageous biorecognition elements, due to their chemical and structural stability. Similarly, optically active nanomaterials offer significant advantages over conventional organic dyes, such as superior photophysical properties, large surface-to-volume ratios, photostability, and longer shelf life. In this report (with 175 references), the use of aptamer-modified nanomaterials as FRET couples is reviewed: quantum dots, upconverting nanoparticles, graphene, reduced graphene oxide, gold nanoparticles, molybdenum disulfide, graphene quantum dots, carbon dots, and metal-organic frameworks. Tabulated summaries provide the reader with useful information on the current state of research in the field. Abstract
A turn-on fluorometric method is described for the determination of adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP). It is based on the displacement of a dye-labeled oligonucleotide from a cobalt(II) based layered double hydroxide (LDH). Due to the electrostatic and ligand exchange interaction, the FAM-labeled DNA is readily adsorbed on the LDH. This leads to complete and fast quenching of the green fluorescence of the label. However, on addition of ATP, the DNA is detached from the LDH because of the stronger affinity of ATP for LDH. This results in the restoration of the green fluorescence. The effect was used to design a sensitive assay that has a linear response in the 0.5-100 μM ATP concentration range and a 0.23 μM lower detection limit. It was applied to the determination of ATP in spiked serum samples. Abstract
An antifouling electrochemical aptasensor for ATP is described that has a zwitterionic self-assembled sensing interface on a glassy carbon electrode modified with a reduced graphene oxide carbon nanofiber (GO-CNF). The GO-CNF was first modified by self-polymerization of dopamine which provided a platform for simultaneously self-assembly of the ATP aptamer and cysteine. By using hexacyanoferrate as the electrochemical probe, in the presence of ATP, the aptamer strands fold around ATP molecules, thus leading to the variation of the electrochemical signal. The aptasensor has a linear response in the 0.1 pM to 5 nM ATP concentration range, and a 13 fM lower detection limit. The electrode is strongly resistant to nonspecific adsorption and biofouling. This enabled the detection of ATP even in spiked human plasma. Graphical abstract An antifouling electrochemical aptasensor employing reduced graphene oxide carbon nanofiber as conductive substrate and zwitterionic cysteine as antifouling material for adenosine triphosphate detection.

Abstract
A colorimetric assay for ATP is described that uses a strategy that combines the concept of split Mg(II)-dependent DNAzyme, split aptamer, and hybridization-induced aggregation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Both ATP aptamer and Mg(II)-dependent DNAzyme are split into two fragments which are allocated to two well-designed DNA probes. The probes also possess mutually complementary stem sequences and spacer sequences. In the presence of ATP, the separated DNAzyme sequences in the two probes assemble via the synchronous recognition of ATP with two fragments of the aptamer. Then, the activated DNAzyme catalyzes multiple cycles of the cleavage of its substrate DNA sequence. The latter acts as a linker and induces the aggregation of two types of ssDNA-modified AuNP through the hybridization between the complementary sequences. Thus, the color of the AuNP solution remains red. However, in the absence of ATP, the detached aptamer cannot induce the assembly of DNAzyme to cleave the linker DNA. This results in the aggregation of AuNP and a concomitant color transition from red to purple. This ATP assay, performed at a wavelength of 530 nm, has a linear detection range that extends from 10 pM to 100 nM, with a detection limit of 5.3 pM. It was applied to the detection of ATP in human serum. Conceivably, the strategy has a wide scope in that it may be applied to the colorimetric detection of various other analytes through the split aptamer configuration. Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of colorimetric assay for adenosine triphosphate (ATP) based on the use of a split Mg(II)-dependent DNAzyme, a split aptamer, and by exploiting the hybridization-induced aggregation of gold nanoparticles that leads to a color change from red to purple.
