Different approaches in thin-layer chromatography for enantioresolution of acebutolol using colistin sulfate as chiral selector

Fast and novel multiwalled carbon nanotubes decorated with metal oxide nanoparticles for potentiometric detection of a prohibited medication in sports acebutolol hydrochloride

A straightforward approach for creating fast and novel potentiometric sensors that are modified with multi-walled nanotubes (MWCNTs) was described. The impact of the selective sensor's material was studied. The suggested sensors were successfully fabricated for instant and fast detection of the prohibited β-adrenoreceptor blocking agent acebutolol hydrochloride (AC) in commercial products. Acebutolol-phosphomolybdate (AC-PM) carbon paste sensor was formed by mixing AC and phosphomolybdic acid and graphite powder in the presence of o-nitrophenyl octyl ether (o-NPOE) as a plasticizing agent. The functionalized AC-PM-MWCNTs and AC-PM-MWCNTs-Al2O3 nanocomposite sensors were prepared and all parameters affecting the sensors' potential responses have been investigated as well as the green synthesis of Al2O3NPs has been characterized using various microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. AC-PM-MWCNTs and AC-PM-MWCNTs-Al2O3 nanocomposite sensors demonstrated linearity of 1.0 × 10-7-1.0 × 10-2 and 1.0 × 10-8-1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1, respectively with regression equations -53.571x + 423.24 (r = 0.999) and -57.107x + 518.54 (r = 0.999). It also revealed excellent selectivity and sensitivity for the determination and quantification of AC. The developed potentiometric system was suitable for the determination of AC in bulk powder and commercial products.

Macrocyclic Antibiotics as Effective Chiral Selectors in Liquid Chromatography for Enantiomeric Separation of Pharmaceutical Compounds: A Review

Chiral separation techniques play a crucial role in the pharmaceutical industry, where the enantiomeric purity of drugs can have a significant impact on their efficacy and safety. Macrocyclic antibiotics are highly effective chiral selectors used in various chiral separation techniques, including LC, HPLC, SMB, and TLC, offering reproducible results and a wide range of applications. However, developing robust and efficient immobilization mechanisms for these chiral selectors remains a challenge. This review article focuses on various immobilization approaches, such as immobilization, coating, encapsulation, and photosynthesis, that have been applied to immobilize macrocyclic antibiotics on their support. Commercially available macrocyclic antibiotics for conventional liquid chromatography include Vancomycin, Norvancomycin, Eremomycin, Teicoplanin, Ristocetin A, Rifamycin, Avoparcin, Bacitracin, and others. In addition, capillary (nano) liquid chromatography has also been used in chiral separation utilizing Vancomycin, Polymyxin B, Daptomycin, and Colistin Sulfate. Macrocyclic antibiotic-based CSPs have been extensively applied due to their reproducible results, ease of use, and broad range of applications, capable of separating a large number of racemates.

Detection and remediation of chiral pharmaceuticals from wastewater: A review

Chiral organic pollutants including pharmaceuticals, pesticides, herbicides, flame retardants, and polycyclic musk cause significant risks to both the environment and human health. Chiral pharmaceuticals (CPs) are among the significant class of pseudo-persistent substances that have been observed in the concentration level from nanomolar to micromolar quantities and cause bad impacts on nontargeted species and direct or indirect human health issues due to water and foodborne contamination. The CPs may contain one or more chiral centers in their structural framework and thus enantiomers of CPs often possess different distribution, fate, bioaccumulation potential, and toxicity. The enantioselective chromatographic techniques have been extensively applied to detect drug enantiomers during the last few years. Bioremediation techniques offer unique characteristics above conventional remediation procedures as these could be cost-effective and accomplish total organic pollutant decomposition without causing collateral damage to the site material or native flora and fauna. This review describes the impacts of chiral pharmaceuticals on the environment; detection technologies (particularly liquid chromatography), and important remedial measures for safer disposal of such pollutants.
