Effect of 940 nm laser diode irradiation prior to bonding procedure on postoperative sensitivity following class II composite restorations: a split-mouth randomized clinical trial. Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 940 nm laser diode on class II composite cavities prior to bonding and restoration process on the postoperative sensitivity (POS). Thirty patients with two bilateral premolars with mesio or disto-occlusal carious lesions were evaluated. In each patient, the teeth were randomly divided into the control and laser groups. After cavity preparation and isolation and before the bonding process, the laser group was subjected to 940 nm irradiation (Epic 10, Biolase, USA) by 400 μ tip continuously at 100 mW with 398 J/cm2 energy density of tip, which was applied for 5 s at a distance of 2 mm on the axial wall of the cavity. In the control group, irradiation was performed by using the aiming beam. Access cavity was then restored with a composite resin. Cold sensitivity was measured using a cold spray application on the middle third of teeth buccal surface at baseline (before the intervention), 1, 14, and 30 days after the restoration by visual analog scale (VAS) criteria. The mean Friedman and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used for data analysis. It was shown that in both laser and control groups, the VAS was significantly decreased at all times compared to the baseline (p ≤ 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the mean VAS of two groups at baseline and first day (p ≤ 0.05), but at 14 and 30 days after the intervention, it was significantly lower in the laser group (p ≤ 0.05). The results of this study demonstrated that the cavity pretreatment with laser diode (940 nm) effectively reduces the postoperative sensitivity in class II composite restorations.

Abstract
Restoration of noncarious cervical lesions with resin composites is one of the treatment options, but the retention of the restorations located at the crown-root junction is still a cause of clinical concern. The aim of this study was to evaluate the adhesive properties of three experimental resin composites and two commercial materials used to restore cavities prepared on extracted teeth as well as to determine the relative elemental composition of these materials. We tested the null hypothesis, which considered that the adhesive behaviours of different resin composites did not differ. The microleakage test using tracers showed that all tested materials exhibited some degree of dentinal microleakage, although they all had good dentinal adhesion. The results failed to reject the null hypothesis. The scanning electron microscopy revealed completely adapted adhesive interfaces underneath the restorations along with well-developed hybrid layers depending on the adhesive system. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis analyses showed that the restorative materials have similar chemical compositions, with some differences between the samples from the same material. The results support the implementation of experimental resins in clinical settings.

Abstract
SUMMARY
The literature was reviewed to evaluate the compliance of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) with the CONsolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT ) and the risk of bias of these studies through the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool (CCRT). RCTs were searched at Cochrane Library, PubMed, and other electronic databases to find studies about adhesive systems for cervical lesions. The compliance of the articles with CONSORT was evaluated using the following scale: 0 = no description, 1 = poor description, and 2 = adequate description. Descriptive analyses about the number of studies by journal, follow-up period, country, and quality assessments were performed with CCRT for assessing risk of bias in RCTs. One hundred thirty-eight RCTs were left for assessment. More than 30% of the studies received scores of 0 or 1. Flow chart, effect size, allocation concealment, and sample size were more critical items, with 80% receiving a score of 0. The overall CONSORT score for the included studies was 15.0 ± 4.8 points, which represents 46.9% of the maximum CONSORT score. A significant difference among countries was observed (p<0.001), as well as range of year (p<0.001). Only 4.3% of the studies were judged as at low risk; 36.2% were classified as having unclear risk and 59.4% as having high risk of bias. The adherence of RCTs evaluating adhesive systems to the CONSORT is low with unclear/high risk of bias.
