Abstract
This paper evaluates the physicochemical and biological properties of experimental resin-based dual-cured calcium aluminate (CA) and calcium titanate (CTi) materials for vital pulp therapy (VPT). The experimental dual-cured materials were obtained as two pastes: a) Bis-EMA 10, PEG 400, DHEPT, EDAB, camphorquinone, and butylated hydroxytoluene; and b) fluoride ytterbium, Bis-EMA 10, Bis-EMA 30, benzoyl peroxide, and butylated hydroxytoluene. The materials were divided into six groups based on the added calcium component: MTA (MTA®, Angelus); CLQ (Clinker-Fillapex®, Angelus); CA (calcined at ,1200°C in pastes a and b); CA800 (calcined at 800°C in paste a); CA1200 (calcined at 1,200°C in paste a); and CTi (paste a). The real-time degree of conversion and rate of polymerization (n = 3), diametral tensile strength (n = 10), hydrogen potential (n = 15), calcium ion release (n = 10), water sorption and solubility (n = 10), and cell viability (n = 6) were evaluated. One- and two-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test were used in the analysis of the parametric data, and Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's multiple tests were used to analyze the nonparametric data (α = 0.05). CLQ, CA800 and CA1200 had the highest diametral tensile strength. The water solubility of MTA was similar to that of CA800, CA1200 and CTi. CA800 and CA1200 resulted in cell viabilities similar to those of MTA and CLQ. The experimental dual-cured CA-based material that calcined at 800°C showed physicochemical and biological properties suitable for VPT, and similar to those of MTA.

Abstract
This is a narrative review of the literature assessing the potential effectiveness of doping dentin polymeric adhesives with zinc compounds in order to improve bonding efficacy, remineralization and protection against degradation. A literature search was conducted using electronic databases, such as PubMed, MEDLINE, DIMDI and Web of Science. Through our search, we found literature demonstrating that Zn-doped dentin adhesives promote protection and remineralization of the resin-dentin interfaces. The increased bioactivity has also facilitated dentinal tubules' occlusion by crystals' precipitation contributing to improved sealing efficacy of restorations. Loading dentin adhesives with zinc gives rise to an increase of both crystallinity of mineral and crosslinking of collagen. The main role of zinc, in dentin adhesives, is to inhibit collagen proteolysis. We concluded that zinc exerts a protective effect through binding at the collagen-sensitive cleavage sites of matrix-metalloproteinases (MMPs), contributing to dentin matrix stabilization. Zinc may not only act as a MMPs inhibitor, but also influence signaling pathways and stimulate metabolic effects in dentin mineralization and remineralization processes. Zn-doped adhesives increase the longevity of dentin bonding through MMPs inhibition. Zn poses a remineralization strategy in demineralized dentin.

Abstract
Deep carious dentin lesions induce an immune reaction within the pulp-dentin complex, leading to the release of cytokines, which might be suitable biomarkers in pulp diagnostics. This in vivo feasibility study determines the concentration of different cytokines after selective removal of carious infected dentin (SCR). In our methodology, paired samples are obtained from 21 patients—each of them with two deep carious lesions at posterior teeth without clinical symptoms. After SCR, lesions are randomly assigned to treatment strategy: Group 1 (11 patients): Carious dentin is covered either with BiodentineTM (n = 11) or gutta-percha (n = 11) before using the adhesive OptibondTM FL. Group 2 (10 patients): The adhesives ClearfilTM SE Protect Bond (n = 10) or ClearfilTM SE Bond 2 (n = 10) are directly applied. Prepared cavities are rinsed with phosphate buffered saline containing 0.05% Tween 20 (10X) for five minutes immediately after SCR (visit 1) and eight weeks later (visit 2). Rinsing liquid is regained. Concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, C-reactive protein (CRP), TNF-α, IFN-γ, TIMP-1, -2, and MMP-7, -8, -9 are assessed by customized multiplex assays, evaluated with fluorescence analyzer. Non-parametric statistical analysis (Wilcoxon, Mann–Whitney U Test, p < 0.05) is performed (SPSS 25). Our results show that concentrations of CRP, IL-1β, IL-6, TIMP-1, -2, and MMPs were detectable. Median concentrations of CRP, IL-1β und IL-6 were significantly higher in visit 1 (304.9, 107.4, 3.8 pg/mL), compared to visit 2 (67.8, 2.3, 0.0 pg/mL; pi < 0.001). The study revealed that the non-invasive determination of cytokines from prepared dental cavities is possible.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the inflammatory process following direct pulp capping during pregnancy. This experimental study involved 48 maxillary first molars of female Wistar rats. The procedures were performed in pregnant and non-pregnant animals (n =20 each). Direct pulp capping with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and restoration with a light-cured resin composite was performed in half of exposed pulp specimens. In the other half of specimens, light-cured composite was placed directly on the exposed pulp. In the control groups (n=4 each), no intervention was performed. Animals were euthanized at 3 and 7 days. All sections (three per slide) were viewed under an optical microscope. One previously calibrated pathologist performed descriptive analysis and assigned scores for inflammatory response and tissue organization adjacent to the pulp exposure. The Kappa value for intra-examiner variability was 0.91. At 3 days, in animals treated with MTA, inflammatory infiltrate was absent in non-pregnant animals while mild inflammatory infiltrate was observed in some pregnant animals. The inflammatory response ranged from mild to severe in both groups treated with composite alone. At 7 days, the inflammatory response was more intense in pregnant than in non-pregnant animals treated with MTA; while this difference were not evident in animals treated with composite alone. In conclusion, pregnancy may not influence the inflammatory process following direct pulp capping with light-cured resin composite, which was always harmful to the pulp; while the tissue response after the direct pulp with MTA were more favorable in non-pregnant animals.
