Abstract
PURPOSE This bibliometric and scientometric analysis aimed to delve into the forefront roles of lasers in endodontics from 1990 to 2024. METHODS A comprehensive electronic search was conducted using "Clarivate Analytics Web of Science, All Databases" to retrieve the most-cited articles pertaining to the topic. These articles were then ranked in descending order according to their citation counts and the top 100 were selected for further analysis. Parameters including citation density, publication year, journal, journal impact factor (IF), country, institution, author, study design, study field, evidence level, laser type, and keywords were meticulously analyzed. RESULTS The mean and standard deviations of total citation and citation density were 106.47 ± 65.76 and 7.61 ± 5.13, respectively. Positive and negative correlations were found between the number of citations and citation density and age of publication. While the mean number of citations was significantly higher in the period 2001-2010 compared to the other periods (P < 0.05), values were similar between the periods 1990-2000 and 2011-2014 (P > 0.05). Articles were mainly published in the Journal of Endodontics. The most productive country, institutions, and author were the United States, the University of Showa, and Koukichi Matsumoto. Diode and Er: YAG lasers were commonly investigated. Ex vivo studies were mainly performed followed by in vitro ones. The main study field was "antimicrobial effect". Among keywords, "photodynamic therapy" was used more frequently. CONCLUSION Lasers are predominantly utilized to leverage their antimicrobial efficacy. Advancements in technology will lead to improvements in the properties of lasers, thereby enhancing the disinfection of the root canal system.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Synthesise evidence on post-endodontic pain (PEP) in adult teeth undergoing primary root canal treatment with the adjunctive use of laser-activated irrigation (LAI) as compared with conventional needle irrigation (CNI) during the first post-operative week. DATA An electronic search was performed; no language constraints or restriction on the year of publication were applied. SOURCES Medline, Scopus, Cochrane and PubMed on 04 June 2023 STUDY SELECTION: Randomised clinical trials (RaCTs) that evaluated PEP after LAI of endodontic irrgants were included. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were used. PEP was analysed at various time intervals until 1 week after treatment, related to the type of LAI used and the need for analgesia. REULTS Of the 793 articles identified through the electronic database search, 6 RaCTs were included. Qualitative review was favoured over meta-analysis due to substantial methodological heterogeneity between studies. Five studies were at high risk for bias determined by the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias 2 tool. Diode LAI demonstrated superior efficacy to needle irrigation in reducing pain 6-48 h post-treatment. The impact of LAI by photon-induced photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) was unclear and no difference was observed between PIPS and needle irrigation. However, PIPS mitigated PEP better than manual dynamic activation, sonic and ultrasonic activation. There was no difference in analgesia intake between LAI and needle irrigation groups. CONCLUSIONS LAI may help reduce PEP in the first 48 h. Methodological standardisation of future RaCTs on LAI would be beneficial in allowing a more accurate review with the possibility of quantitative synthesis. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This unique synthesis used stringent criteria to reduce confounding factors and provided valuable evidence regarding PEP with different types of LAI. It helps clinicians choose an appropriate LAI technique as compared with CNI and predicts a time frame for reducing PEP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This systematic review and meta-analysis (SRM) aimed to evaluate the efficacy of laser phototherapy (LPT) on the reduction in postoperative pain (PP) of endodontic origin after conventional/non-surgical reintervention of root canals. METHODS This SRM was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021243500) and followed the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis. Meta-analysis was conducted using R software with the "META" package, the mean difference (MD) measure of effect was calculated, and the fixed effect model was applied with a 95% confidence interval (CI). The Cochrane collaboration scale was used to assess the risk of bias and the GRADE tool to assess the quality of evidence. RESULTS Initially, 1028 articles were found, and five articles were included. Most studies were classified as "low" risk of bias. Of the five clinical studies, four showed a significant decrease in PP after endodontic reintervention in the LPT groups compared to the control group, especially in the first four days after the intervention. In symptomatic teeth with multiple roots, LPT led to less PP at 24 h (MD -0.52 [-1.03; -0.02] p = .04). However, no significant difference between the groups was found at 48 and 72 h (p > .05). The certainty of the evidence was classified as low. CONCLUSION Despite the limitations of this SRM, LPT was shown to be a promising alternative for reducing and controlling PP in conventional endodontic reintervention. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The use of LPT in endodontic reintervention may be a safe and promising alternative to clinically efficacious agent for use in the management of PP in this procedure.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tooth extraction in children requires attention to wound healing and pain management, which are influenced by patient-related factors and behavioral guidance. AIM OF THE STUDY The study aimed to evaluate the effect of LLLT on healing sockets in pediatric patients with bilateral primary molar teeth extraction and determine its impact on pain management. METHODS 6-10 years of age, systemically healthy, and with atraumatic extraction indications of bilateral primary molar teeth were included in the study (n = 40). In the first session, randomly selected teeth were extracted under local anesthesia. In the control group, only clot formation in the socket was observed and photographed. The other group extractions were performed 2 weeks later. The low-level laser therapy (LLLT) group was treated with a 980 nm wavelength, in a continuous emission mode, 0.5 W power, 300 J of energy, 400 µm tip, 60 s diode laser and photographed. Nonepithelialized surface measurements were performed using ImageJ. Pain assessment was performed using the Wong-Baker Pain Scale. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software. RESULTS There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in the Wong-Baker values in 3rd day (p < 0.05). In soft tissue healing on the 3rd and 7th day, the nonepithelialized surface of the laser socket was smaller than that of the control group, and the measurement results were found to be statistically significant (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Although LLLT was not found to be very effective in reducing postoperative discomfort after extraction of primary molars, it provided better wound healing in extraction sockets.

Abstract
AIM To find the best method for applying the diode laser 810 nm to relieve post-endodontic pain on necrotic maxillary incisors with periapical lesions within a single-visit treatment. METHODS Eighty patients with a necrotic incisor, diagnosed with asymptomatic apical periodontitis, received standardized cleaning and shaping procedures, then divided randomly with a 1:1:1:1 allocation ratio into four groups: Group 1: control group with no laser application, Group 2: applying the diode laser as an irrigation activation system (IAS), Group 3: applying the diode laser from the buccal and palatal mucosa, Group 4: applying the diode laser as an IAS and from buccal and palatal mucosa. The postoperative pain was assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS) 1, 3, 7, and 14 days after the treatment. The mean values of the VAS score were statistically analyzed used Kruskal-Walis and Mann-Whitney U tests. The level of significance was set at a = 0.05. RESULTS During 14 days after treatment, there was a statistically significant difference between mean values of VAS scores in the four groups (P value < 0.05); Group 1 scored the highest score, whereas Group 4 showed the lowest one. Moreover, Group 4 showed favorable outcomes compared with Group 2 and Group 3 during the first three days after treatment. CONCLUSION Diode laser reduced postoperative pain after necrotic teeth with large-sized apical lesion treatment, whereas using diode laser either as an IAS or LLLT reduced the postoperative pain compared with the control group. Moreover, the usage of a diode laser in both previous techniques represents the best protocol for postoperative pain relief during 14 days of treatment. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The clinical significance of this study is to investigate the best method to reduce postoperative pain using diode lasers 810 nm; where the results of this study indicated that the more diode laser exposer in LLLT and IAS, the less postoperative pain after endodontic procedures.

Abstract
Introduction: Available evidence suggests that the response of the intervened tissue is directly linked to the effects generated by the cutting instrument used. To determine the histological findings in gingival tissue margins excised through gingivectomies performed using 450 nm, 940 nm, and 980 nm diode lasers. The present study aimed to determine the histological findings in gingival tissue margins excised through gingivectomies performed using 450 nm, 940 nm, and 980 nm diode lasers. Methods: Gingival tissue samples were collected from 30 patients who had undergone gingivectomy procedures. Each study group comprised 10 patients who willingly provided their samples after providing informed consent. The visualization of histological findings was facilitated through Hematoxylin-Eosin staining. Additionally, variables related to pain and hemostasis were assessed during the intraoperative period. Results: The incision quality was categorized as irregular across all three wavelengths. Histological examination of the epithelial tissue revealed the absence of carbonization and the preservation of cell morphology in over 50% of the resection margin in samples obtained with the 450 nm and 940 nm wavelengths. In the connective tissue, observations included carbonization, collagen coagulation, and basophilia, with the 980 nm wavelength demonstrating the highest percentage of samples displaying collagen coagulation in more than 50% of the resection margin. Conversely, the 450 nm wavelength exhibited the highest degree of preservation of the fibroblast structure. Conclusion: Based on a comprehensive analysis of the study results, it can be inferred that the 450nm and 940nm wavelength lasers tend to produce less thermal damage and better cell preservation when compared to the 980nm wavelength.

Abstract
The utilization of lasers has been regarded as a novel technique for the purposes of clinical use in the dental field. Recently, numerous studies have been conducted on the potential applications of laser therapy in endodontics. Moreover, due to their ablation, penetrability, and disinfection capabilities, lasers have performed well with respect to endodontic treatments, including root canal treatment, vital pulp therapy (pulp capping and pulpotomy), dentinal hypersensitivity treatment, and management of dental pain related to pulp and periradicular disease. In particular, the superiorities of laser-aided pulp therapy are emphasized through condensed clinical controlled trials, and histological studies, in this review. Moreover, the ingenious use of laser applications with respect to aiding in the acceleration of root development and the extraction of foreign matters (i.e., broken files and fiber posts) in canals has quickly become the cutting-edge trend of current research. This review offers a summary and discussion of the current literature on all the aforementioned laser applications. Moreover, the characteristics of laser devices, including erbium lasers, neodymium-doped lasers, CO2 lasers, and diode lasers, are detailed and discussed here, providing useful references for laser application in endodontics. We also focus on the different wavelengths with respect to the lasers that are applied in endodontics. High-power lasers perform well as operative instruments; in addition, low-level lasers lead to the regulation of pulp inflammation, and the promotion of pulp healing. This narrative review provides a summary of the advanced applications of lasers in conjunction with various devices in the practice of endodontics, and aims to inspire innovative perspectives on lasers in the context of the treatment of dental diseases, especially pulp diseases, in the future.
