Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the efficacy of Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedling (FRM) in treating corticosteroid-induced facial erythema. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted involving eight patients diagnosed as corticosteroid-induced facial erythema. Each patient underwent a single session of FRM. Evaluative measures included Clinician's Erythema Assessment (CEA), Patient's Self-Assessment (PSA), assessment of telangiectasia severity, procedure-associated pain (10-point scale), patient satisfaction (3-point scale) and secondary outcomes. RESULTS The study found a 75% success rate and 100% effectiveness rate in alleviating erythema symptoms. CEA and PSA scores decreased by 67.7% and 78.1%, respectively. No cases of erythema rebound were recorded during the 3-month follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS FRM demonstrated effectiveness and safety in treating facial erythema, offering promising advancement in dermatologic therapeutics.

Abstract
Microneedle fractional radiofrequency (MFRF) has been used to improve photoaging and scars. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MFRF with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) for facial atrophic acne scars and skin rejuvenation by blinded visual evaluation, self-report, and reflective confocal microscopy (RCM). Fifteen subjects were randomized to the MFRF with bFGF group and fifteen to the MFRF group. All subjects underwent three-session therapy and a follow-up period. Significant group differences were in ECCA, global improvement score, satisfaction, and downtime before and after treatment. Combination therapy could be more effective than monotherapy for acne scars and facial rejuvenation. In addition, RCM can be used to observe the changes in skin collagen before and after treatment in evaluating cosmetic efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sensitive skin is a widespread dermatologic condition, and no optimal treatments have been established so far. OBJECTIVE To investigated the efficacy and safety of the combined therapy of short-wave radiofrequency (SWRF) and intense pulsed light (IPL) in improving transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and facial erythema in sensitive skin patients. METHODS Twenty-two patients with sensitive skin received the SWRF treatment once per week for 4 weeks and IPL treatment once. Digital photographs and three-dimensional images were taken at each follow-up. The clinical efficacy was evaluated by the improvement of sensitive scale-10 including irritant symptoms and facial erythema. In addition, erythema area and TEWL values were measured. RESULTS All patients showed subjective and objective improvement in irritant sensations and facial erythema after treatment. The TEWL values decreased from 20.29 ± 5.97 g·h-1 ·m-2 at baseline to 14.70 ± 6.02 g·h-1 ·m-2 after SWRF treatment and 13.78 ± 4.70 g·h-1 ·m-2 after combined therapy (p = 0.000). The clearance of the erythema area was statistically significant, with 14.05% ± 5.71% at baseline, 9.38% ± 4.08% after SWRF treatment, and 5.73% ± 2.79% after combined therapy (p = 0.000). No adverse events were observed. CONCLUSIONS The combination of SWRF with IPL was effective in relieving skin irritant sensations and facial erythema of sensitive skin by repairing skin barrier function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the widespread use of intense pulsed light (IPL) technology in cosmetic dermatology, the effects of its repeated use on facial skin sensitivity in healthy individuals remains unknown. METHODS Seventeen healthy female volunteers were included in the study. We measured objective biophysical parameters of the skin, including transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin glossiness, thickness and density of the epidermis and dermis, sensory nerve current perception threshold (CPT), and regional blood flow before and after treatment at different time points. RESULTS Sixteen volunteers completed a follow-up of 12 months. The treated side of the face showed a decreased TEWL on D1 and D3, which reverted to normal on D7. Epidermal thickness increased and skin glossiness decreased on the treated side on D1, but returned to normal on D3. We found no statistically significant differences in CPT values or in regional blood flow volume and velocity, with the exception of D1, which exhibited a higher regional blood flow volume on the treated side. CONCLUSION Repeated IPL treatments had no effects on facial skin barrier function, skin nerve sensitivity, or local microcirculation among healthy individuals. IPL is a safe skin care procedure that does not affect skin sensitivity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although there is an abundance of literature on nonablative laser and energy-based therapies for the management of skin conditions, adverse events are inconsistently addressed and range widely across studies. Fitzpatrick skin phototypes (SPTs) IV to VI are believed to be at higher risk. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine the types and rates of adverse events in nonablative laser and energy-based therapies among patients with SPTs IV to VI. METHODS Articles addressing nonablative laser and energy-based therapies for skin rejuvenation and acne scarring in patients with SPTs IV to VI that provided data on adverse events were included. The pooled prevalence of each adverse event was calculated. To determine whether age, treatment indication, SPT, and device type influenced incidence, subgroup and meta-regression analyses were performed. Heterogeneity was evaluated with the I2 statistic. RESULTS Forty-three studies were included in the meta-analysis. The sample size was 1654, and the median age of subjects was 39.4 years. The most common adverse events were postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) (rate, 8.1%) and prolonged erythema (rate, 0.6%). The rate of PIH was significantly higher for diode and erbium-doped lasers compared with intense pulsed light and radiofrequency. PIH correlated positively with SPT, laser density, and total energy delivered. CONCLUSIONS Although the overall rate of adverse events in nonablative laser and energy-based therapies for SPTs IV to VI is low, the incidence of PIH is not insignificant. Certain lasers, such as diode, Q-switched Nd:YAG, and erbium-doped lasers, tend to have higher rates of PIH, whereas intense pulsed light and radiofrequency have minimal risk. Higher SPTs and higher energy deliverance correlate positively with the incidence of PIH. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 4

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the constant development of aesthetic medicine, there is still a lack of objective methods to assess the effectiveness of antiaging treatments and their impact on the skin. Histopathological examination of the skin section provides most of the key information about the condition of the skin, but it is an invasive procedure that requires a skin biopsy, which may be associated with the formation of a scar that is considered to be an aesthetic defect. Non-invasive imaging methods of the skin like dermoscopy, skin ultrasonography and reflectance confocal microscopy may be a useful solution. AIMS AND METHODS In this systematic review, we present the possible application of noninvasive skin imaging methods in esthetic medicine. The literature search was conducted via medical database (PubMed, Google Scholar). RESULTS The research suggests the use of dermoscopy during laser therapy, for the targeted treatment of vascular lesions and appropriate adjustment of laser parameters. Skin ultrasonography, especially high-frequency ultrasonography, has been widely used in aesthetic medicine-during and after volumetric treatments and in the assessment of the effects of anti-cellulite therapies, treatments that correct discolorations and improve skin quality. Publications also highlight the importance of reflexive confocal microscopy in the evaluation of the results of anti-aging treatments using the fractional laser, moisturizing preparations or micro puncturing combined with hyaluronic acid injections. CONCLUSION Non-invasive skin imaging methods are useful tools for pre- and postoperative assessment in aesthetic medicine and their wide application may help to objectively assess the impact of anti-aging procedures on the skin.
