Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to compare leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) and photobiomodulation (PBM) applications, which have been repeatedly reported to be superior to control groups, in terms of pain, soft tissue and bone healing in tooth extraction sockets. MATERIALS AND METHODS This double-blind, randomized clinical study was completed with 34 patients, who had an indication for extraction of their bilaterally impacted teeth. The right and left teeth of the patients were randomly divided into L-PRF and PBM groups. L-PRF group was treated with the blood product centrifuged for 12 min at 2700 rpm, and the PBM group was treated with a diode laser at different points for 60 s with a wavelength of 940 nm in repeated sessions. Postoperative pain was evaluated using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), soft tissue healing with Landry Index (LI), tissue healing in the distal region of mandibular second molar by probing depth measurement, and bone healing via panoramic x-ray using the Image J program. RESULTS No statistically significant difference was found for any variable compared between the groups. CONCLUSION L-PRF and PBM applications provide similar support in the healing of extraction sockets. Nevertheless, the advantages and disadvantages of both methods determine their usage areas. CLINICAL RELEVANCE While L-PRF is advantageous in the early healing of extraction sockets, PBM may be preferred in terms of bone trabeculation in the long term.

Abstract
Bones have an important role in the human body with their complex nature. Mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial cells together support their unique and complex nature. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a promising method that provides cell proliferation, osteogenic differentiation, and bone regeneration. However, there are still unknowns in the mechanism of osteogenic differentiation induced by PBM. The main aim of the study is to understand the molecular mechanism of PBM at 655 and 808 nm of wavelengths and identify the most effective energy densities of both wavelengths for osteogenic differentiation. The effect of PBM on osteogenic differentiation of Human Bone Marrow Stem Cell (hBMSC) and Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cell (HUVEC) co-culture was examined at 1, 3, and 5 J/cm2 energy densities of red and near-infrared light through different analysis such as cell viability, scratch assay, intracellular reactive oxygen species production, and ATP synthesis, nitric oxide release, temperature monitoring, and osteogenic differentiation analyses. Even though all PBM-treated groups exhibited better results compared to the control group, 5 J/cm2 energy density induced faster cell proliferation and migration at both wavelengths. The increases in ATP and NO levels as signaling molecules, and the increases in DNA, ALPase, and calcium contents as osteogenic markers were higher in the groups treated with 5 J/cm2 energy density at both wavelengths. Only a slight change was obtained in the level of intracellular ROS after any light applications. It can be concluded that NO release has a very important role together with ATP production in PBM therapy to trigger DNA synthesis, ALPase activity, and mineralization for osteogenic differentiation of the hBMSC and HUVEC co-culture at 655 and 808 nm of wavelengths.

Abstract
PURPOSE Despite early development of muscle fatigue, ischemic preconditioning is gaining popularity for strength training combined with low-load resistance exercise. This study investigated the effect of low-level laser (LLL) on postcontraction recovery with ischemic preconditioning. METHODS Forty healthy adults (22.9 ± 3.5 yr) were allocated into sham (11 men, 9 women) and LLL (11 men, 9 women) groups. With ischemic preconditioning, they were trained with three bouts of intermittent wrist extension of 40% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). During the recovery period, the LLL group received LLL (wavelength of 808 nm, 60 J) on the working muscle, whereas the sham group received no sham therapy. MVC, force fluctuations, and discharge variables of motor units (MU) for a trapezoidal contraction were compared between groups at baseline (T0), postcontraction (T1), and after-recovery (T2). RESULTS At T2, the LLL group exhibited a higher normalized MVC (T2/T0; 86.22% ± 12.59%) than that of the sham group (71.70% ± 13.56%; P = 0.001). The LLL group had smaller normalized force fluctuations (LLL, 94.76% ± 21.95%; sham, 121.37% ± 29.02%; P = 0.002) with greater normalized electromyography amplitude (LLL, 94.33% ± 14.69%; sham, 73.57% ± 14.94%; P < 0.001) during trapezoidal contraction. In the LLL group, the smaller force fluctuations were associated with lower coefficients of variation of interspike intervals of MUs (LLL, 0.202 ± 0.053; sham, 0.208 ± 0.048; P = 0.004) with higher recruitment thresholds (LLL, 11.61 ± 12.68 %MVC; sham, 10.27 ± 12.73 %MVC; P = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS LLL expedites postcontraction recovery with ischemic preconditioning, manifesting as superior force generation capacity and force precision control for activation of MU with a higher recruitment threshold and lower discharge variability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is defined as non-thermal electromagnetic irradiation through laser or light-emitting diode sources. In recent decades, PBMT has attracted attention as a potential preconditioning method. The current meta-analysis was conducted to assess the effectiveness of PBMT in improving mode-specific exercise performance in healthy young adults. METHODS A computerized literature search was conducted, ending on 15 May 2022. The databases searched were PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, SPORTDiscus, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database. Inclusion/exclusion criteria limited articles to crossover, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies investigating the PBMT effects as a preconditioning method. The included trials were synthesized according to exercise mode (single-joint, cycling, running, and swimming). All results were combined using the standardized mean differences (SMDs) method and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were described. RESULTS A total of 37 individual studies, employing 78 exercise performance measurements in 586 participants, were included in the analyses. In single-joint exercises, PBMT improved muscle endurance performance (SMD 0.27, 95% CI 0.12-0.41; p < 0.01) but not muscle strength performance (p = 0.92). In cycling, PBMT improved time to exhaustion performance (SMD 0.35, 95% CI 0.10-0.59; p < 0.01) but had no effect on all-out sprint performance (p = 0.96). Similarly, PBMT had no effect on time to exhaustion (p = 0.10), time-trial (p = 0.61), or repeated-sprint (p = 0.37) performance in running and no effect on time-trial performance in swimming (p = 0.81). CONCLUSION PBMT improves muscle endurance performance in single-joint exercises and time to exhaustion performance in cycling but is not effective for muscle strength performance in single-joint exercises, running, or swimming performance metrics.

Abstract
In recent years, the usefulness of infrared thermography (IRT) as a valuable supplementary imaging method in medical diagnostics, as well as for assessing the effects of the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, has been increasingly confirmed. At the same time, great importance is attached to the standards of thermographic research, the fulfillment of which determines the correct methodology and interpretation of the results. This article discusses the medical applications of infrared thermography in musculoskeletal system diseases, with particular emphasis on its usefulness in assessing the therapeutic effects of physical treatments used in rehabilitation. The literature from the last decade that is available in the Medline and Web of Science databases has been reviewed. Among the physiotherapeutic methods used, the following were selected that directly affect the musculoskeletal system: cryotherapy, laser therapy, electrotherapy, diathermy, and massage. The article summarizes all the guidelines and recommendations for IR imaging in medicine and rehabilitation.
