Students' Psychological State, Creative Development, and Music Appreciation: The Influence of Different Musical Act Modes (Exemplified by a Video Clip, an Audio Recording, and a Video Concert)

This paper aims to study how different musical act modes influence the student's psychological state, creative development, and music appreciation. In particular, the research focuses on concert videos, video clips, and audio records. Based on the Likert scale, the authors determined that video clips significantly influenced students' learning process since they contributed to the combination of visual and sound effects. Video concerts were less important. Concerts are mainly staged actions with frequent use of pre-recorded music, affecting the accuracy of singing techniques. The authors concluded that the most effective approach is systematical learning using the effect of colors and sounds with a preliminary analysis of musical compositions. The results showed that the most significant number of students significantly improved their knowledge (87%, with an average score of 0.92), and the elements of a musical act (rhythm, color scheme, text, and performance) influenced their development. The practical significance of the paper lies in the use of approaches to learning using colors and sound effects with an emphasis on the development of certain elements. The study prospects involve determining how effectively the elements of a musical act influence the psychological state resulting from comparing music genres.

Analysis and Classification of Music-Induced States of Sadness

The enjoyment and pleasure derived from sad music has sparked fascination among researchers due to its seemingly paradoxical nature in producing positive affect. Research is yet to develop a comprehensive understanding of this “paradox.” Contradictory findings have resulted in a great variability within the literature, meaning results and interpretations can be difficult to derive. Consequently, this review collated the current literature, seeking to utilize the variability in the findings to propose a model of differential sad states, providing a means for past and future findings to be interpreted. The proposed model is based on theoretical understanding, as such it requires full empirical support. Comparisons to alternative models, theoretical, clinical, and cognitive implications, as well as future directions are discussed.

Composing in the scanner: A functional magnetic resonance imaging single case study on visual and auditory imagery

"Seeing with the mind's eye" and "hearing with the mind's ear" are two common indicators of musical imagery, and they can be referred to as "visual" and "auditory" musical imagery. However, a question remains open, that is, whether visual and auditory imagery of the same musical composition share the same neural mechanisms. Moreover, how can neural mechanisms guarantee the temporal flow of "musical imagery"? To answer these questions, we report here a preliminary single case study using functional magnetic resonance imaging with an eminent composer who imagined one of his compositions in two states of mind as compared to his resting-state activity. In the visual imagery condition, he imagined visually the score of his composition in a continuous way. In the auditory imagery condition, he imagined auditorily the same musical composition with pauses. In spite of the modality and temporal differences, the two types of mental imagery showed similar temporal durations for the same musical composition. However, different patterns of neural activation were observed for visual and auditory imagery with one important exception, that is, a common activation pattern was observed in the left medial temporal gyrus in both visual and auditory imagery. We speculate that the left medial temporal gyrus may play an important role in the creation of apparent temporal continuity in musical imagery and perhaps even in conscious information processing in general.

The Integration and Development of Piano Art and Media Education and Its Influence on the Long-Term Care and Happiness of the Elderly People

To analyze the influence of the integration of piano art and media on long-term care of the elderly in the aging society, and to improve the living standard and happiness of the elderly, based on educational psychology, several scales of self-compiled personal information, the Ackerson personality inventory, and the memorial university of Newfoundland happiness scale were introduced for statement, and questionnaire method was adopted for information collection. Then, the mechanism of the integration of piano art and media on the happiness of the elderly was summarized. The results showed that there were significant differences in the happiness of the elderly in terms of monthly average income, economic pressure, health status, and living conditions. The happiness of the elderly with a monthly income of more than 5,000 yuan was significantly higher than that of the elderly with a monthly income of <3,000 yuan (p < 0.05). The happiness of the elderly with low economic pressure was significantly higher than that of the elderly with high economic pressure (p < 0.05). The happiness of the elderly with good living conditions was significantly higher than that of the elderly with ordinary living conditions (p < 0.05). The happiness score and positive experience (PE) of the elderly with learning over 5 years were significantly higher than those with learning <5 years and the non-piano learning group (p < 0.05). The total score of happiness in the piano learning group was significantly positively correlated with positive affection (PA) and PE, and negatively correlated with neuroticism and psychosis (p < 0.05). It is concluded that the piano art learning process based on educational psychology can improve the subjective well-being of the elderly. In addition, the elderly who have been exposed to piano art for a long time are more active in life. Piano art edification is an important factor affecting the psychological well-being of the elderly. The research has a good guiding significance for improving the happiness of the elderly.

The effectiveness of stress-management-based cognitive-behavioral treatments on anxiety sensitivity, positive and negative affect and hope

Background and objective: Anxiety sensitivity, positive and negative affection and hope are the important factors in promoting mental health of students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of stress-management-based cognitive-behavioral treatments on anxiety sensitivity, hope, positive and negative affect in female students of Medical Sciences.

Materials and methods: This research was a trail study with pre-test, post-test and control group. A sample of 30 subjects, were selected by available sampling and were randomly assigned using Block Randomization Method of two groups (experimental and control groups). Schneider’s hope questionnaire, Watson’s positive and negative affect questionnaire, Clarke and Tolgman’s questionnaire, Reiss et al.’s anxiety sensitivity of the revised index questionnaire, were completed in two stages (pre-test and post-test) by all subjects. A 6-session protocol of cognitive-behavioral group treatment was performed only on the experimental group. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and MANOVA analysis of variance.

Results: Two experimental and control groups with the mean 22, standard deviationl. 13, average age is 22 years. Stress-management-based cognitive-behavioral treatments were effective on the level of anxiety sensitivity and hope (p <0.016), however, it had no significant positive effect on the amount of positive and negative affect (p <0.016).

Conclusion: According to the results, it can be concluded that cognitive-behavioral treatments are effective on anxiety sensitivity and hope. Therefore, stress-management-based cognitive-behavioral training can reduce students’ anxiety sensitivity and increase their hopes for coping with challenges.
