An enhanced seagull optimization algorithm for solving engineering optimization problems

Chaotic opposition learning with mirror reflection and worst individual disturbance grey wolf optimizer for continuous global numerical optimization

The effective meta-heuristic technique known as the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) has shown its proficiency. However, due to its reliance on the alpha wolf for guiding the position updates of search agents, the risk of being trapped in a local optimal solution is notable. Furthermore, during stagnation, the convergence of other search wolves towards this alpha wolf results in a lack of diversity within the population. Hence, this research introduces an enhanced version of the GWO algorithm designed to tackle numerical optimization challenges. The enhanced GWO incorporates innovative approaches such as Chaotic Opposition Learning (COL), Mirror Reflection Strategy (MRS), and Worst Individual Disturbance (WID), and it's called CMWGWO. MRS, in particular, empowers certain wolves to extend their exploration range, thus enhancing the global search capability. By employing COL, diversification is intensified, leading to reduced solution stagnation, improved search precision, and an overall boost in accuracy. The integration of WID fosters more effective information exchange between the least and most successful wolves, facilitating a successful exit from local optima and significantly enhancing exploration potential. To validate the superiority of CMWGWO, a comprehensive evaluation is conducted. A wide array of 23 benchmark functions, spanning dimensions from 30 to 500, ten CEC19 functions, and three engineering problems are used for experimentation. The empirical findings vividly demonstrate that CMWGWO surpasses the original GWO in terms of convergence accuracy and robust optimization capabilities.

An Energy-Saving and Efficient Deployment Strategy for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Improved Seagull Optimization Algorithm

The Internet of Things technology provides convenience for data acquisition in environmental monitoring and environmental protection and can also avoid invasive damage caused by traditional data acquisition methods. An adaptive cooperative optimization seagull algorithm for optimal coverage of heterogeneous sensor networks is proposed in order to address the issue of coverage blind zone and coverage redundancy in the initial random deployment of heterogeneous sensor network nodes in the sensing layer of the Internet of Things. Calculate the individual fitness value according to the total number of nodes, coverage radius, and area edge length, select the initial population, and aim at the maximum coverage rate to determine the position of the current optimal solution. After continuous updating, when the number of iterations is maximum, the global output is output. The optimal solution is the node's mobile position. A scaling factor is introduced to dynamically adjust the relative displacement between the current seagull individual and the optimal individual, which improves the exploration and development ability of the algorithm. Finally, the optimal seagull individual position is fine-tuned by random opposite learning, leading the whole seagull to move to the correct position in the given search space, improving the ability to jump out of the local optimum, and further increasing the optimization accuracy. The experimental simulation results demonstrate that, compared with the coverage and network energy consumption of the PSO algorithm, the GWO algorithm, and the basic SOA algorithm, the coverage of the PSO-SOA algorithm proposed in this paper is 6.1%, 4.8%, and 1.2% higher than them, respectively, and the energy consumption of the network is reduced by 86.8%, 68.4%, and 52.6%, respectively. The optimal deployment method based on the adaptive cooperative optimization seagull algorithm can improve the network coverage and reduce the network cost, and effectively avoid the coverage blind zone and coverage redundancy in the network.

Hybridizing slime mould algorithm with simulated annealing algorithm: a hybridized statistical approach for numerical and engineering design problems

The existing slime mould algorithm clones the uniqueness of the phase of oscillation of slime mould conduct and exhibits slow convergence in local search space due to poor exploitation phase. This research work exhibits to discover the best solution for objective function by commingling slime mould algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm for better variation of parameters and named as hybridized slime mould algorithm-simulated annealing algorithm. The simulated annealing algorithm improves and accelerates the effectiveness of slime mould technique as well as assists to take off from the local optimum. To corroborate the worth and usefulness of the introduced strategy, nonconvex, nonlinear, and typical engineering design difficulties were analyzed for standard benchmarks and interdisciplinary engineering design concerns. The proposed technique version is used to evaluate six, five, five unimodal, multimodal and fixed-dimension benchmark functions, respectively, also including 11 kinds of interdisciplinary engineering design difficulties. The technique's outcomes were compared to the results of other on-hand optimization methods, and the experimental results show that the suggested approach outperforms the other optimization techniques.

Optimal Performance and Application for Seagull Optimization Algorithm Using a Hybrid Strategy

This paper aims to present a novel hybrid algorithm named SPSOA to address problems of low search capability and easy to fall into local optimization of seagull optimization algorithm. Firstly, the Sobol sequence in the low-discrepancy sequences is used to initialize the seagull population to enhance the population’s diversity and ergodicity. Then, inspired by the sigmoid function, a new parameter is designed to strengthen the ability of the algorithm to coordinate early exploration and late development. Finally, the particle swarm optimization learning strategy is introduced into the seagull position updating method to improve the ability of the algorithm to jump out of local optimization. Through the simulation comparison with other algorithms on 12 benchmark test functions from different angles, the experimental results show that SPSOA is superior to other algorithms in stability, convergence accuracy, and speed. In engineering applications, SPSOA is applied to blind source separation of mixed images. The experimental results show that SPSOA can successfully realize the blind source separation of noisy mixed images and achieve higher separation performance than the compared algorithms.
