Organocatalysis: A Tool of Choice for the Enantioselective Nucleophilic Dearomatization of Electron-Deficient Six-Membered Ring Azaarenium Salts. Catalysts 2021. Abstract
Nucleophilic dearomatization of azaarenium salts is a powerful strategy to access 3D scaffolds of interest from easily accessible planar aromatic azaarene compounds. Moreover, this approach yields complex dihydroazaarenes by allowing the functionalization of the scaffold simultaneously to the dearomatization step. On the other side, organocatalysis is nowadays recognized as one of the pillars of the asymmetric catalysis field of research and is well-known to afford a high level of enantioselectivity for a myriad of transformations thanks to well-organized transition states resulting from low-energy interactions (electrostatic and/or H-bonding interactions…). Consequently, in the last fifteen years, organocatalysis has met great success in nucleophilic dearomatization of azaarenium salts. This review summarizes the work achieved up to date in the field of organocatalyzed nucleophilic dearomatization of azaarenium salts (mainly pyridinium, quinolinium, quinolinium and acridinium salts). A classification by organocatalytic mode of activation will be disclosed by shedding light on their related advantages and drawbacks. The versatility of the dearomatization approach will also be demonstrated by discussing several chemical transformations of the resulting dihydroazaarenes towards the synthesis of structurally complex compounds.

Abstract
An iron-catalyzed cascade reaction of C(sp3)-Se bond cross-coupling/C-N bond formation was developed. Various 5,13a-dihydro-6H,8H-benzo[5,6][1,3]selenazino[2,3-a]isoquinolin-8-one derivatives were synthesized under mild conditions starting from 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines and 2-hydroselenobenzoic acids. This protocol provides an economical approach for C(sp3)-Se bond formation.

Abstract
γ− and δ-Oxoesters are easily available starting materials that have been sparingly used in some organocatalyzed reactions proceeding with a high enantioselectivity. In our experimentation we found that the use of these compounds as the enolizable (nucleophilic) component in organocatalyzed Mannich-type reactions using in situ-generated cyclic N-acyl iminium ions gave low diastereoselectivity and low to moderate values of enantioselectivity. This significant drop of facial selectivity with respect to simple aliphatic aldehydes has been rationalized by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Abstract
Chiral t-butylsulfinamide has been successfully employed for the stereoselective synthesis of 1-benzyl tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids. This is the first report on the synthesis of chiral 1-benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline natural products using tert-butylsulfinamide through a haloamide cyclization.

Abstract
An efficient catalytic room-temperature direct α-amidoalkylation of carbonyl donors, that is, ketones and aldehydes with unbiased N,O-acetals, is described. Sn(NTf2 )4 is an optimal catalyst to promote this challenging transformation at low loading and the reaction shows promising scope. A comprehensive and rational evaluation of this reaction has led to the establishment of an empirical scale of nucleophilic reactivity for a broad set of ketones that should be helpful in the synthetic design and development of carbonyl α-functionalization methods.
