Synthesis and Characterization of Palladium Supported Amino Functionalized Magnetic-MOF-MIL-101 as an Efficient and Recoverable Catalyst for Mizoroki–Heck Cross-Coupling

A sustainable avenue for the synthesis of propargylamines and benzofurans using a Cu-functionalized MIL-101(Cr) as a reusable heterogeneous catalyst

A heterogeneous copper-catalyzed A3 coupling reaction of aldehydes, amines, and alkynes for the synthesis of propargylamines and benzofurans has been developed. Here, the modified metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr)-SB-Cu complex was chosen as the heterogeneous copper catalyst and prepared via post-synthetic modification of amino-functionalized MIL-101(Cr). The structure, morphology, thermal stability, and copper content of the catalyst were determined by FT-IR, PXRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, TGA, XPS, and ICP-OES. The catalyst shows high catalytic activity for the aforementioned reactions under solvent-free reaction conditions. High yields, low catalyst loading, easy catalyst recovery and reusability with not much shrink in catalytic activity, and a good yield of 82% in gram-scale synthesis are some of the benefits of this protocol that drove it towards sustainability.

Unlocking the Potential of Deep Eutectic Solvents for C-H Activation and Cross-Coupling Reactions: A Review

Green chemistry principles have underpinned the development of deep eutectic solvents (DESs). In this brief overview, we discuss the potential of DESs as a greener alternative to volatile organic solvents for cross-coupling and C-H activation reactions in organic chemistry. DESs offer numerous benefits, such as easy preparation, low toxicity, high biodegradability, and the potential to replace volatile organic compounds. The ability of DESs to recover the catalyst-solvent system enhances their sustainability. This review highlights recent advances and challenges in utilizing DESs as a reaction media, as well as the impact of physicochemical properties on the reaction process. Several types of reactions are studied to highlight their effectiveness at promoting C-C bond formation. Aside from demonstrating the success of DESs in this context, this review also discusses the limitations and future prospects of DESs in organic chemistry.

Synthesis and physicochemical evaluations of a novel MIL-101(Fe)-PMA-Biochar triple composite photocatalyst activated through visible-light and utilized toward degradation of organic pollutants: optimal operations and kinetics investigations

A triple photocatalytic composite of biochar, metal-organic framework, and phosphomolybdic acid was prepared through hydrothermal treatment of iron (III) chloride hexahydrate, terephthalic acid, lavandulifolia-derived biochar, and phosphomolybdic acid. It was characterized and utilized for photodegradation of Rhodamine-B (RhB) dye under visible-light irradiation. Investigations of reaction variables confirmed that, the highest yield of 96.2% was achieved at ambient temperature using 0.07 g of catalyst at pH of 7, and a dye concentration of 10 ppm. Under these optimum conditions, Methyl Orange (MO) dye was also degraded to yield 93% removal. In addition, the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for RhB were determined. It was revealed that the photodegradation of RhB followed a pseudo-first-order kinetics with no mass transfer limitations. A corresponding chemical mechanism for this process was also suggested. Adsorption isotherms were investigated for rate of adsorption as well as adsorption capacity of the catalyst under dark conditions. Notably, the catalyst could have been reused for five cycles with a loss of around 20% activity.

A novel composite of ionic liquid-containing polymer and metal-organic framework as an efficient catalyst for ultrasonic-assisted Knoevenagel condensation

1-Butyl-3-vinylimidazolium chloride was synthesized and polymerized with acrylamide to furnish an ionic liquid-containing polymer, which was then used for the formation of a composite with iron-based metal-organic framework. The resultant composite was characterized with XRD, TGA, FE-SEM, FTIR, EDS and elemental mapping analyses and its catalytic activity was appraised for ultrasonic-assisted Knoevenagel condensation. The results confirmed that the prepared composite could promote the reaction efficiently to furnish the corresponding products in high yields in very short reaction times. Moreover, the composite exhibited high recyclability up to six runs. It was also established that the activity of the composite was higher compared to pristine metal-organic framework or polymer.

Pd Nanoparticles Stabilized on the Cross-Linked Melamine-Based SBA-15 as a Catalyst for the Mizoroki–Heck Reaction

Mesoporous SBA-15 silicate with a high surface area was prepared by a hydrothermal method, successively modified by organic melamine ligands and then used for deposition of Pd nanoparticles onto it. The synthesized materials were characterized with infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), nitrogen physisorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES). The catalyst was effectively used in the Mizoroki–Heck coupling reaction of various reactants in the presence of an organic base giving the desired products in a short reaction time and with small catalysts loadings. The reaction parameters such as the base type, amounts of catalyst, solvents, and the temperature were optimized. The catalyst was easily recovered and reused at least seven times without significant activity losses.

Pd supported on clicked cellulose-modified magnetite-graphene oxide nanocomposite for C-C coupling reactions in deep eutectic solvent

Cellulose-modified magnetite-graphene oxide nanocomposite was prepared via click reaction and utilized for immobilization of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles without using additional reducing agent. The abundant OH groups of cellulose provided the uniform dispersion and high stability of Pd nanoparticles, while magnetite-graphene oxide as a supporting material offered high specific surface area and easy magnetic separation. The as-prepared nanocomposite served as a heterogeneous catalyst for the Heck and Sonogashira coupling reactions in various hydrophilic and hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as sustainable and environmentally benign reaction media. Among the fifteen DESs evaluated for coupling reactions, the hydrophilic DES composed of dimethyl ammonium chloride and glycerol exhibited the best results. Due to the low miscibility of catalyst and DES in organic solvents, the separated aqueous phase containing both of the catalyst and DES can be readily recovered by evaporating water and retrieved eight times with negligible loss of catalytic performance.

Palladium nanoparticles in situ synthesized on Cyclea barbata pectin as a heterogeneous catalyst for Heck coupling in water, the reduction of nitrophenols and alkynes

This study develops an effective method for in situ synthesis of PdNPs using Cyclea barbata pectin as green reducing and stabilizing reagent. The catalytic activity of nanocomposite was evaluated for Heck coupling reaction, reduction of nitrophenols and reduction of alkynes.
