Abstract
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignancy of the myeloid cells due to the clonal and malignant proliferation of blast cells. The etiology of AML is complex and involves environmental and genetic factors. Such genetic aberrations include FLT3, DNMT3, IDH1, IDH2, NAT2, and WT. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between five, not previously studied in any Arab population, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and the risk and overall survival of AML in Jordanian patients. The SNPs are NAT2 (rs1799930 and rs1799931), IDH1 (rs121913500), and IDH2 (rs121913502 and rs1057519736). A total number of 30 AML patients and 225 healthy controls were included in this study. Females comprised 50% (n = 15) and 65.3% (n = 147) of patients and controls, respectively. For AML patients (case group) Genomic DNA was extracted from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues and from peripheral blood samples for the control subjects group. Genotyping of the genetic polymorphisms was conducted using a sequencing protocol. Our study indicates that NAT2 rs1799930 SNP had a statistically significant difference in genotype frequency between cases and controls (p = 0.023) while IDH mutations did not correlate with the risk and survival of AML in the Jordanian population. These results were also similar in the TCGA-LAML cohorts with the notable exception of the rare NAT2 mutation. A larger cohort study is needed to further investigate our results.

Abstract
Objectives: The relationships between pre-diagnosis meat intake and ovarian cancer (OC) survival were limited and controversial. To date, no study has taken account of cooking methods. Thus, we aimed to firstly clarify these associations based on the Ovarian Cancer Follow-Up Study. Methods: This prospective cohort study, including 853 OC patients between 2015 and 2020, was conducted to examine the aforementioned associations. All women completed a food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained up to March 31, 2021 via medical records and active follow-up. We used the Cox proportional hazards model to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: During the median follow-up of 37.17 months, 130 women died. Pre-diagnosis fish and seafood intake was associated with better survival (HRT3 vs. T1 = 0.46, 95% CI = 0.26-0.82, p trend <0.05), whereas processed red meat (HR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.04-2.26) and a high frequency of fried fish intake (HR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.03-2.16) were associated with worse survival than consuming none. After considering the interaction of cooking methods, we found that compared with the lowest tertile of fish and seafood intake and almost no fried fish cooking, women with the highest tertile of intake and almost no fried fish cooking had better survival (HR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.13-0.92). Additionally, compared with the lowest tertile of fish and seafood intake and almost no baked fish cooking, women with the lowest tertile of intake and consuming baked fish had worse survival (HR = 3.75, 95% CI = 1.53-9.15). Conclusions: Pre-diagnosis fish and seafood intake was associated with better OC survival, whereas processed red meat intake was associated with worse survival. Cooking methods, especially for fried or baked fish, may play interaction effects with fish intake on OC survival.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a common, chronic, and autoimmune skin disease. Factors that play a role in etiopathogenesis of psoriasis include internal factors such as genetic susceptibility and immunological factors and external factors such as stress, infection, trauma, drug, and environmental compounds. N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) is a xenobiotic enzyme that is involved in the metabolism of drugs, environmental toxins, and carcinogens. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate whether the variations in the NAT2 gene lead to a predisposition to psoriasis by affecting the enzyme's ability to metabolize drugs and environmental components or not. Three polymorphisms (rs1799929, rs1799930, and rs1799931) in NAT2 gene were genotyped and compared by real-time PCR method in 260 psoriasis vulgaris patients and 200 healthy controls. There was no difference in the genotype distributions and allele frequencies of polymorphisms between psoriasis vulgaris patients and controls. When the effects of polymorphisms on the clinical features of the disease, such as onset age and severity, are assessed, it has been found that rs1799930 and rs1799929 are, respectively, associated with early onset age and severity of the disease. In conclusion, rs1799929, rs1799930, and rs1799931 polymorphisms of the NAT-2 gene do not appear to be a risk factor for the development of psoriasis. Conversely, they may have an effect on either more severe or early onset cases of the disease.

Abstract
Background Some of the current software tools for comparative metagenomics provide ecologists with the ability to investigate and explore bacterial communities using α– & β–diversity. Feature subset selection – a sub-field of machine learning – can also provide a unique insight into the differences between metagenomic or 16S phenotypes. In particular, feature subset selection methods can obtain the operational taxonomic units (OTUs), or functional features, that have a high-level of influence on the condition being studied. For example, in a previous study we have used information-theoretic feature selection to understand the differences between protein family abundances that best discriminate between age groups in the human gut microbiome. Results We have developed a new Python command line tool, which is compatible with the widely adopted BIOM format, for microbial ecologists that implements information-theoretic subset selection methods for biological data formats. We demonstrate the software tools capabilities on publicly available datasets. Conclusions We have made the software implementation of Fizzy available to the public under the GNU GPL license. The standalone implementation can be found at http://github.com/EESI/Fizzy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polymorphisms of Arylamine N-acetyltransferase (NAT) that contribute to diverse susceptibilities of some autoimmune diseases are also linked to the metabolism of several drugs including sulfasalazine (SSZ). The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of NAT polymorphisms in Han Chinese patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and their correlation to sulfasalazine-induced adverse drug reactions (ADRs). METHODS Arylamine N-acetyltransferase 1 (NAT1) and arylamine N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) genotypes were determined in 266 AS patients who received SSZ treatment and 280 healthy controls. The correlation between NAT polymorphisms and SSZ-induced ADRs was analyzed. RESULTS The co-occurrence frequency of NAT2 fast acetylator genotype and NAT1*10/NAT1*10 genotype was lower in AS patients than in controls. No positive correlations were detected between NAT polymorphisms and AS clinical features. The prevalence of SSZ-induced ADRs and drug withdrawal was 9.4% and 7.1%, respectively. The frequencies of overall ADRs, dose-related ADRs, and termination of drug treatment because of intolerance were higher in the NAT2 slow acetylator genotype carriers than in the fast-type carriers and in those with co-existence of NAT1 and NAT2 slow acetylator genotypes. Furthermore, the ADRs emerged earlier in the AS cases carrying both NAT1 and NAT2 slow acetylator genotypes. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of co-occurring NAT2 fast acetylator genotype and NAT1*10/NAT1*10 genotype was lower in AS patients than in controls. The NAT2 slow acetylator genotype and co-existing NAT1 and NAT2 slow acetylator genotypes appear to be associated with higher risks of SSZ-induced ADRs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The main types of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). There is evidence that, in addition to immunological and environmental factors, genetic factors also play an important role in the pathogenesis of IBD. Determination of polymorphism of CYP2D6 and NAT2 genes encoding I and II phase enzymes of xenobiotic biotransformation may have clinical value as an indicator of individual predisposition to diseases, and also contribute to effective and safe pharmacotherapy. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between genetic polymorphism of CYP2D6 and NAT2 and the incidence of IBD, including UC and CD, among inhabitants of central Poland. METHODS The study was performed in 258 individuals from central Poland (115 patients with IBD, including 65 patients with UC and 50 with CD; and in 143 healthy controls). The CYP2D6 genotypes of oxidation and NAT2 genotypes of acetylation were analyzed using the PCR-RFLP method. RESULTS There were no statistically significant differences in the frequency of the CYP2D6 genotypes and alleles in patients with IBD, UC and CD in comparison with the control group. The relative risk (OR) of IBD, UC and CD was higher in carriers of the allele NAT2*7 and was OR=3.49 (p=0.0019), OR=3.86 (p=0.0019), and OR=3.02 (p=0.0247), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Polymorphism of the gene encoding CYP2D6 does not affect the incidence of inflammatory bowel diseases. The carriers of the NAT2*7 allele which determines slow acetylation may be more predisposed to inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
