Abstract
A 42 day factorial trial (3x2) was designed to evaluate the effect of short-term starvation with different feeding frequencies on performance, feed utilization, physiological status and appetite responses of red hybrid tilapia fingerlings. Eighteen plastic tanks with a capacity of (55 L) were used to accomplish this work. Fingerlings with an average initial weight of 23 g ± 0.2 (SE) were randomly stocked at a rate of 8 fingerlings/aquarium. Six groups were designated as the following: II/ED: fish was fed twice every day; IV/ED: fish fed four times every day; II/EOD: fish fed twice every other day (alternate-day feeding or one day of feeding followed by another of fasting); IV/EOD: was fed four times every other day; II/EO3D: fish fed twice every other three days (three day of feeding followed by another of fasting) and IV/EO3D: fish fed four times every other three days. Fish were fed on commercial diets 30 % protein (4 % of biomass). Results showed insignificant differences between fish fed every other day and those fed every day in some growth indicators. In the same trend, the interaction between feed deprivation and feeding frequency cleared that fingerlings of IV/EOD did not significantly differ with those fed every day in growth indices. Moreover this treatment was the best in feed conversion efficiency and several physiological indicators.

Abstract
Manipulating feeding rate and protein quality may improve growth and feeding efficiency of cultured species. However, whether feeding rate, protein quality, or their interaction has a greater effect on growth and feeding efficiency response variables is unknown. To determine whether feeding rate and protein quality individually or interactively affect growth and feeding efficiency, juvenile Zebrafish (Danio rerio) were either offered nutritionally similar diet consisting of either menhaden fishmeal protein or a 100% replacement of fishmeal with soybean meal-based protein restrictively or to satiation. Total length, weight, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured throughout the duration of the study. Protein quality and feeding rate individually and interactively affected feed intake and FCR: Zebrafish offered feed to satiation had higher growth and FCR than those fed restrictively, and Zebrafish fed soybean meal-based diet showed lower growth and higher FCR and feed intake compared to those fed fishmeal-based diet, although magnitude of response depended on feeding rate. These findings likely indicate lower digestibility of soybean meal or the presence of antinutritional factors in soybean meal that led to impaired nutrient absorption of fish offered soybean meal-based diet. Differences in measured response variables between protein qualities and feeding rates highlight the importance of determining interactive effects in nutritional studies.

Abstract
Simple Summary The development of live prey feed domestication techniques for the carnivorous leopard mandarin fish (Siniperca scherzeri) requires establishing nutritionally complete diets and research into optimal feeding regimes. Accordingly, the purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of varied feeding regimes for S. schezeri on compensatory growth. Individuals were divided into a daily feeding control group (C), a 5-day fasting group (F5), a 10-day fasting group (F10), and a 14-day fasting group (F14). The results demonstrated that after four weeks of treatment, all experimental groups experienced full compensatory growth and reached the control group weight. Therefore, this information will be valuable for effective management when fasting is necessary in S. schezeri aquaculture. Abstract To verify the effect of fasting on juvenile leopard mandarin fish (Siniperca scherzeri mean weight, 14.7 g), compensatory growth, body composition, and blood content of juveniles were investigated for six weeks following two-week feeding treatments: fed continuously (control), and fasted for 5 (F5), 10 (F10) and 14 days (F14). Full compensatory growth was evident after four weeks of food resupply in all fasting groups. Specific growth rate, feeding rate, and feed efficiency in all fasting groups were significantly higher than those of the control after the first 2 weeks of food resupply. At the end of fasting, the lipid content, ratio of lipid to lean body mass, hepatosomatic and viscerosomatic indices in all fasting groups, or total cholesterol content in F14 significantly decreased compared to the control. These results indicated that juvenile leopard mandarin fish subjected to 5–14 days of food deprivation could achieve full compensatory growth after feeding resumption for 4 weeks and that the morphological and biochemical indices, as well as body and blood composition, remained comparable to the control group after the completion of the study under our experimental conditions.

Abstract
A 45-day feeding trial was conducted to assess the capacity of juvenile Nile tilapia (2.12 ± 0.02 g) to utilize different sources of carbohydrate in their diets. Growth performance, nutrient digestibility, hematological parameters, and hepatic oxidative stress were evaluated. Four experimental diets were formulated to be isonitrogenous (25% crude protein) and isolipidic (10% crude lipid), each containing 20% glucose (GLU-diet), maltose (MAL-diet), dextrin (DEX-diet), and corn starch (CST-diet), respectively. At the end of feeding trial, survival in all groups was above 90% and was not significantly different among groups. The results indicated that fish fed the DEX-diet and CSTA-diet showed significantly (p < 0.05) better specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and protein efficiency ratio (PER) compared with those fed the other diets. The dry matter and carbohydrate digestibility were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in groups fed on dextrin and corn starch diets. However, the digestibility of crude protein and energy in diets did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) among groups fed on experimental diets. The activities of analyzed antioxidant enzymes in the liver were significantly (p < 0.01) higher in groups fed on glucose and maltose diets when compared to other groups. Hematological parameters were affected by the dietary carbohydrate sources; there was a significant increase in hematocrit (Ht), hemoglobin (Hb), and mean corpuscular volume (CMV) in the blood of fish fed on dextrin and cornstarch diets compared to other experimental diets. These results indicated that low complexity carbohydrate sources induced oxidative stress and depressed growth performance. Overall, these results indicate that dietary dextrin and starch were more efficiently utilized than glucose as an energy source by juvenile Nile tilapia. This information is of increasing interest in fish nutrition to provide healthy and economically feed formulations.

Abstract
Calcitonin (CT) has a potential function in calcium (Ca) regulation, but there are conflicting observations in fishes. Because of the lack of calcified endoskeleton, sturgeons have low Ca circulating compared with teleost fish and the function of CT on Ca in sturgeon is very less understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of injection of salmon CT on plasma Ca, magnesium (Mg), phosphate (PHO), and glucose levels of juvenile Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii. Sixteen-month-old fish (429.6 ± 12.1 g) were intraperitoneally injected with a single dose of CT (5 μg kg-1 BW) and saline solution as a control group. Thereafter, blood sampling was performed at 0, 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after injection. CT produced marked increases in all variables measured. The highest levels of Ca (6.77 ± 0.53 mg dL-1), Mg (9.79 ± 0.16 mg dL-1) and PHO (1.74 ± 0.05 mg dL-1) were recorded at 2 h after CT injection and showed significant difference compared with control treatment (Ca 4.75 ± 0.12 mg dL-1; Mg 5.47 ± 0.16 mg dL-1 and PHO 1.23 ± 0.06 mg dL-1). It also likely produced hyperglycemia. However, the differences with the controls were not statistically significant, possibly due to interference with the hyperglycemia induced by the stress of injection. Our results showed that the injection of 5 μg kg-1 BW CT to Siberian sturgeon has an incremental effect on plasma Ca, Mg, and PHO. The increase in plasma Ca level indicated that CT has a potent hypercalcemic effect in sturgeon under laboratory condition, in contrast to the hypocalcemic effects reported for teleosts.
