Abstract
Purpose To establish the prevalence of ocular involvement in a Colombian population with rheumatologic diseases. Design Observational cross-sectional study. Methods We included a probabilistic sample size of 797 patients who attended a rheumatologic disease center in Bogotá, Colombia. Statistical analysis with descriptive measures and Chi-square independence test between rheumatologic diseases and ophthalmological symptoms and diseases was performed. Results Eighty-four percent of the population were women, and the mean age was 54.61± 15.64 years. The most common condition was rheumatoid arthritis (33.37%), followed by fibromyalgia (22.71%), Sjögren Syndrome (19.72%), and systemic lupus erythematosus (9.91%). Almost 7% of the patients presented polyautoimmunity. Thirty-five percent of the patients reported one or more ophthalmological symptoms, being dry eye sensation the most common (30.86%), followed by ocular pain (2.76%), red-eye, and decreased visual acuity (both 2.63%). Similarly, 21.45% of the patients presented one or more ophthalmological diagnoses, being keratoconjunctivitis sicca the most common (15.93%), followed by cataract, uveitis (1.38% each), and scleritis (1.25%). Conclusion Almost a third of the patients reported any ocular involvement. It is crucial to be aware of the most common ophthalmic manifestations among the different rheumatologic diseases in our population, to offer early specialist referral and timely treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Musculoskeletal findings in Sjögren's syndrome are arthralgia, arthritis, myalgia, myositis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. Enthesis zones are important in the formation of pain in the musculoskeletal system. Musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) may show subclinical enthesitis in the synovial joints and in the axial skeleton before joint swelling in inflammatory diseases characterized by arthritis. OBJECTIVE In this study, we aimed to determine the presence of enthesopathy using the Madrid sonographic enthesitis index (MASEI) in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (PSS). PATIENTS AND METHODS Consecutive patients with PSS and age-matched healthy controls were included in this study. All the patients met the 2002 American College of Rheumatology/European League against Rheumatism classification criteria for PSS. The demographic characteristics of the patients were recorded. Six enthesis sites were evaluated using gray-scale and Doppler US with a linear transducer, and they were scored using the MASEI. They were assessed by the EULAR Sjögren's syndrome disease activity index (ESSDAI). RESULTS We evaluated 40 patients with PSS (average age 48.67 ± 11.23 years) and 30 healthy controls (average age 45.40 ± 8.24 years). Patients with PSS had significantly higher MASEI scores than the healthy controls. Plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and distal patellar tendons were significantly thicker in the PSS group than in the healthy controls. The MASEI total score had a positive correlation with age. There was no correlation between MASEI total score and BMI and ESSDAI. CONCLUSION In this study, it was shown that the MASEI scores assessed by US were significantly higher in patients with PSS than in healthy controls. Plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and distal patellar tendon were significantly thicker in the PSS group than in the healthy controls. This result suggests that PSS may be one of the causes of musculoskeletal pain that can be seen in patients with PSS. Our study was the first study to use an enthesis index ultrasonographically in patients with PSS. In addition, it is the first study to investigate the relationship between the presence of enthesopathy and disease activity by means of US.

Abstract
AIM To assess the prevalence of secondary Sjögren's syndrome (sSS) and its association with joint damage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from northern India. METHODS Patients included had RA, fulfilling the 1987 American College of Rheumatology criteria, with disease duration of more than 1 year. They were administered a sicca questionnaire that included six questions from subjective criteria of American European Consensus Group (AECG) criteria. Those who answered affirmatively to at least one question underwent Schirmer I test (ocular function) and salivary scintigraphy (salivary gland involvement). Patients with involvement of both were classified as having sSS as per AECG criteria. A damaged joint count was done using Norfolk Arthritis Register Damaged Joint Count (NOAR-DJC). RESULTS This study included 199 patients with RA, with mean (SD) age and disease duration of 44 (9.9) and 6.8 (5.5) years, respectively. The prevalence of sicca symptoms and sSS was 14.6% and 5.5%, respectively. Those having sSS had a longer (mean ± SD) disease duration (9.2 ± 4.0, 6.8 ± 5.5 years, P = 0.07) and were significantly older in age (50.8 ± 6.8, 43.6 ± 9.9 years, P = 0.005) than those without sSS. There was no significant difference in the median (interquartile range) damaged joint count (0 (0-2), 0 (0-2), P = 0.75). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of sSS in northern Indian RA patients was 5.5%, and it was significantly associated with older age but not damaged joint count.

Abstract
Sjogren's syndrome (SjS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by immune cell infiltration and progressive injury to the salivary and lacrimal glands. As a consequence, patients with SjS develop xerostomia (dry mouth) and keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eyes). SjS is the third most common rheumatic autoimmune disorder, affecting 4 million Americans with over 90% of patients being female. Current diagnostic criteria for SjS frequently utilize histological examinations of minor salivary glands for immune cell foci, serology for autoantibodies, and dry eye evaluation by corneal or conjunctival staining. SjS can be classified as primary or secondary SjS, depending on whether it occurs alone or in association with other systemic rheumatic conditions, respectively. Clinical manifestations typically become apparent when the disease is relatively advanced in SjS patients, which poses a challenge for early diagnosis and treatment of SjS. Therefore, SjS mouse models, because of their close resemblance to the human SjS, have been extremely valuable to identify early disease markers and to investigate underlying biological and immunological dysregulations. However, it is important to bear in mind that no single mouse model has duplicated all aspects of SjS pathogenesis and clinical features, mainly due to the multifactorial etiology of SjS that includes numerous susceptibility genes and environmental factors. As such, various mouse models have been developed in the field to try to recapitulate SjS. In this review, we focus on recent mouse models of primary SjS xerostomia and describe them under three categories of spontaneous, genetically engineered, and experimentally induced models. In addition, we discuss future perspectives highlighting pros and cons of utilizing mouse models and current demands for improved models.

Abstract
We report on a 48-year old female patient suffering from recurrent suppurative sialo-adenitis. Resections of both parotid and the left submandibular glands had to be performed due to abscesses. The woman had suffered from recurrent swelling of the salivary glands as well as xerostomia and xerophthalmia for years. Sjögren's syndrome was diagnosed with a delay of 17 years. The current case implicates recurrent bacterial suppurative sialo-adenitis caused by longstanding Sjögren's syndrome. In every case rheumatic disorders have to be considered in the differential diagnosis of recurrent suppurative parotitis. A detailed anamnesis, ultrasound, a differential hemogram, testing for rheumatoid factor and anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) as well as SS-A and SS-B ENAs can give early information years before Sjögren's syndrome becomes clinically apparent.
